Incredibly friendly staff and a delicious selection of fresh seafood from their raw bar. I've been to many Oyster Bars in my travels and I've found that while an exhaustive menu is convenient, having a small menu of high quality items is much, much better. On our visit to Freeport Oyster Bar I had a selection of their Oysters as well as getting to sample some crab claws that weren't even on the menu. My wife had the Lobster Grilled Cheese and it was incredible. To be clear, this is an Oyster Bar. You come here for drinks and exceptional selections from the raw bar. Had a great time at Freeport Oyster bar. We went on a Sunday evening so it was very low key, which is just our style. Food was good. Did not feel it was the portions we were looking for matching the price, but was tasty overall. Drinks were good too! I'll weigh in with a cautious 3.5 stars. Mid week visit, freezing outside, super fun experience sitting at the stylish bar. Expect a very hefty bill for simple but tasty fare- $39/dozen for locally farmed oysters. Weirdly only one variety was available- what oyster bar only has one oyster choice? The staff and friends off shift at the bar chose the soup special, which never appeared after I ordered it. Too bad, it looked great. The toast points with an avocado based seafood dip was a complete surprise and absolutely delicious. The bartender is renowned for her specialty cocktails. Order one if you are feeling adventurous, but be ready for anything. The delicious local beer selections are a much safer choice. We had a local dark beer on tap that was a complete gem, rarely available outside the can. Oysters were super fresh, mignonette was a miss, lemon was great:-) other interesting sauces are available for an "upgrade". Our neighbors at the bar ordered several, and particularly liked one spicy choice. All in all, a really pleasant if pricey experience. It won't be my local go to, but it's sure worth trying if you're hanging out at LL Beans or the outlet stores near by. read more

Party of 5, stopped in for lunch after shopping in downtown Freeport / LL Bean. Cool place, nicely decorated, good music playing in the background. Kind of a weird menu. A few lobster dishes on the menu, a few hot dogs, no burgers or chicken sandwiches. We ordered beers and oysters to start. The oysters were expensive ($40 for a dozen), but they were some of the best oysters we've ever had. For entrees our table ordered a few lobster rolls, a lobster grilled cheese, and a few hot dogs. Everything here is an elevated / fancy version, not basic by any means. I'd say the lobster grilled cheese was the star of this meal, delicious. Portions are kind of small, and a little skimpy on the potato chips as well. $240 for lunch for 5 is kind of pricey ($13 for an "elevated" hot dog with just a few chips). Service was very pleasant and we liked the ambience. Food was very expensive and incredibly disappointing. Our family for lunch did a lobster roll, a hot dog, 6 oysters, and a side of clam chowder. This set us back a couple-note, and the only thing that tasted good was the oysters and chowder. The oyster rolls were full of some kind of mishandled lobster meat that was super rubbery. The hot dog was an off putting ashy gray color on chewy bread. My child was a champ to get through half. I know it's a touristy spot with high prices, but we weren't expecting basic food to be that bad. read more

I'm so sad to be writing a bad review about a place that I was truly hoping would be amazing. I said on the way there "I'm so excited, this could be our new spot!" I am local to Freeport and my family loves dining out, oyster bars being one of our favorite places to go... We walked in to very bright lights and no music, lots of staff (6 people maybe) and 5 or so customers at the bar. My friend said "Are they open??!" We were told to "Sit anywhere you want!" Greeted by our waitress... No intro to the menu or oyster selections and there were no specials. I asked if they had sprite for my son, "I'm not sure I'll check" she came back still seeming confused about what maine root soda choices there were. We ordered a root beer. I ordered a drink called "the dash" she returned "we are out of the dash... can I get you another beer? I mentioned I had wanted the cocktail named "the dash" she said oh ok... They had this ($15 was very very sour, and I love sour... I couldn't taste the gin but it was pretty) My husband got a lemonade ($8) We ordered our food, a dozen oysters ($39 they only had one oyster selection available, oysters tasted delicious mignonette tasted like straight red wine vinegar) two grilled cheese for the kids ($10 each, grilled on hot dog buns and served with bagged chips) and the cheese and charcuterie board ($25, can't tell you what it tasted like bc it was never ordered so we left without it) We finished oysters and I ordered a second drink, a glass of Chenin Blanc ($11) after she walked away we saw the table that arrived after us receive their charcuterie board.. I had been watching what seemed to be like messy service and confusion all around the restaurant so I had a feeling ours was missed so I asked when she dropped my wine if it had been ordered. She said no but she could "put one in and he could make it really fast." At this point I just asked her to skip the board and if she could bring back the wine, something I don't think I've ever done. We just really weren't feeling like it was a relaxed atmosphere. It's a flaw of mine from working in the service industry my whole life that while dining out I'm often watching the style of service and what's happening around me, I would like to think I'm generally a very patient customer especially in a restaurant that has newly opened, I understand it takes some time to adjust and develop a flow of service that works. What I was surprised by was that when our server asked who I'm assuming was the manager or owner to remove my wine from our ticket, that this wasn't followed up with the manager questioning why a table was having wine comped and leaving before their meal came. This review 100% could have been avoided if I was able to relay this to someone in the building. I ate half of my sons grilled cheese for dinner, had a sour drink and oysters with no accoutrements for $100 then left hungry. Sad to say this will not be our new favorite spot. read more

I'm visiting in from Las Vegas and stumbled across this place while shopping around Freeport. I usually try not to hit the same food spot twice, but I had to here. After having about half a dozen different lobsters rolls I preferred this one by leaps and bounds. The oysters were delicious as well, so much I had to stop by and have them again. We were in town from Texas. I can tell you! This place is awesome! I was looking for fresh oysters. I think I landed in oyster heaven!! Staff was friendly and fun. Oysters were shucked perfectly! And soooo good!! Cocktails were really good! The "Old man and the sea" was one of the most unique cocktails I've ever had. I'm a classic cocktail guy, but not scared to jump off the cliff! Very complex drink with many layers. Not for everyone! But I'm glad I had one! Great job owners and staff!!! I'm a restauranter!! I know! Not easy right now. You folks are doing it right!! We were looking for lobster rolls and this place was recommended. We ordered crab chowder and lobster rolls. The waitress did not bring soup spoons even after we flagged her down to request them. She brought ice water to tables near us but not to ours even after we requested ice. I ended up going to the bar area to get glasses of ice and picked up soup spoons from a cart there. I would not recommend food or service unless you are a local and the waitress knows you. read more

I saw the negative review but I also understand it takes time to ramp up so we should allow for some grace so took my daughter to try it out. It was amazing. The most friendly greeting and server and she walked us through the menu, the oyster selection. We had scallops and oysters and they were some of the best I have had. Clean, fresh and amazing shallot, vinegarette dressing. We had a tasty cocktail as well. I encourage all of you to give it a try. It takes time to find your rhythm when opening a new place and I definitely think they found theirs. 5 Stars!!!! read more
