However, this definitely would not be a location I would stay again at. The Pros: The location is gorgeous, there is no doubt about that. The North Cascades is amazing and the Freestone Inn is wonderfully placed near several hikes. It honestly took our breath away coming up to the cabin. The price wasn't terrible for an inn near a national park during larch season as well. We paid about 500 dollars for two nights. The bed was very comfortable and the room (minus a few cobwebs) was for the most part clean. There is a restaurant walking distance from the inn as well. The Cons: The hospitality service is very lacking here. When I asked about room turnover, they said that if we want towels replaced and trash taken out, we would have to put it outside our room. Again, I was expecting no frills but this was a bit surprising. Even more surprising is that when we did receive a replacement of towels they were set on the bath in a giant stack, and not hung up. Also, there was a puddle of water in a tray in our fridge I assume was for the ice? It was definitely broken. Overall, it did the job, but have no interest in coming back.

I had the burger and my wife had the salmon. All perfect to order. The room as very nice and clean with great views of the lake. Beautiful!

After our hike, we made our way to Mazama, stopping at the Mazama Store before heading over to the inn, at which point we realized how tiny and great Mazama really is! We arrived to the hotel around 2:00pm and I was happy to learn our room was ready for check in. A friendly gentleman handled the process and though he shared he doesn't usually work the front desk, you honestly wouldn't have known as check in was smooth, welcoming, and effortless. Our room was located on the second floor of the main building, and to our surprise, it was actually a loft style room which was a really fun bonus! The room also had a small balcony, a kitchenette with a mini fridge, Keurig, and microwave (I think) and even though the bathroom was on the smaller side, the shower was excellent... I love a good hot shower with great pressure. After dinner, we relaxed by dipping our feet into the hot tub before spending some time in the cozy common area upstairs which again felt warm and homey. The entire property was clean, quiet, and really well maintained. Overall, the price was reasonable, especially considering the area and the level of comfort. I had researched several lodging options of various tiers around both Mazama and Winthrop and I feel confident that I made the right choice. The Inn at Mazama is a gem for anyone wanting to unwind in nature without sacrificing comfort. I would absolutely 100% stay here again!

After several day hikes, the hot tub was a great addition. The staff was great. The rooms were great, there are these lovely common areas with comfortable seating and amenities, a fireplace really just great all around. We stayed here from July 3-10 for my 30th birthday trip, and I genuinely can't imagine a better home base. In fact, I would go as far as saying Mazama Ranch House isn't just a place to sleep, it's a destination and retreat all on its own. When I was researching places to stay for a week of hiking in the North Cascades, I had a few priorities. I wanted to be close enough to the park that we weren't spending hours driving every day. I wanted peace and quiet, not crowds. Most importantly, I wanted to feel immersed in nature. Mazama Ranch House exceeded every expectation. We stayed in one of the double queen rooms in the Wings, and it was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and incredibly comfortable. The kitchenette had everything we needed, and the porches on both sides of the building were perfect for enjoying the sunrise with coffee and watching the sunset after long days on the trail. Every detail made it feel cozy without sacrificing functionality. One of the biggest surprises was how convenient the location was. We could walk to the Mazama Store for groceries and gas, as well as the nearby restaurant/brewery, yet the property still felt wonderfully secluded. The grounds are absolutely stunning. Wide-open green meadows and fields, ponderosa pines with singing birds, stunning landscaping, hammocks, picnic tables, peaceful walking paths, and a hot tub that quickly became our favorite post-hike tradition. After spending 8-10 hours exploring North Cascades each day, soaking in the hot tub while surrounded by nothing but nature was exactly what we needed before doing it all again the next morning. What really stood out was the atmosphere. Everyone staying there seemed to be seeking the same thing: peace, adventure, and an appreciation for the outdoors. It never felt crowded or noisy, just calm and restorative. Check-in couldn't have been easier. Our room number was waiting on a sticky note at the front entrance, and everything was ready when we arrived. During our week-long stay, housekeeping checked in to see if we needed fresh towels or anything else, and every interaction was warm and welcoming. We also had the chance to meet one of the owners, who took the time to chat with us and recommend several fantastic hikes around Mazama outside the national park. That personal touch made an already memorable stay even more special. This is one of those rare places that stays with you long after you leave. I can already picture myself returning for another hiking trip, a birthday getaway, an anniversary, or simply a quiet weekend to disconnect and recharge. Leaving was honestly the hardest part. I wasn't ready to trade the peaceful mornings, mountain air, and incredible tranquility for everyday life. If you're looking for luxury, you'll find it here in a different way. Not through extravagance, but through simplicity, thoughtful hospitality, breathtaking surroundings, and the kind of peace that's becoming harder and harder to find. Mazama Ranch House made my 30th birthday trip unforgettable, and without question, we'll be back.

We have road…read moretripped all over this country many times, literally visiting 49 of the 50 states... so we have seen a lot of hotels and motels over the years. There are a few maker break components to a hotel stay: the bed, the bathroom, the TV, and the HVAC system. If one of these sucks, you're gonna have a bad time. I'm glad to share that the Pepper tree goes four out of four in the positive. Comfortable beds, functional heat, and air-conditioning, and each in their own time and place... Functioning, television, and a clean and functional bathroom. On top of that, our room over the last several years of visiting, always features a mini fridge, a microwave, a large closet, boutique style shampoo/conditioner/body wash, hot water, and cold water in the correct location on the dial, and a very clean room. The complementary morning breakfast is outstanding; the gentleman that has managed the kitchen for the last two years, runs a tight ship, and always seems to be training a new staff member with an eye for customer service, cleanliness, and a very positive experience for visitors. Seriously, this is not the el cheapo continental breakfast with pre-bagged, pastries, and small boxes of Captain crunch. My youngest son particularly likes the pancake machine. The hotel has a pool and a hot tub, but honestly, we'd have never used them. The front desk staff is friendly and attentive, and the cleaning staff does a nice job of tidying up your room without that weird feeling of being invasive. We generally visit Omak annually for a boys' fishing trip, and this hotel is the best game in town. As an added bonus, it's literally one minute from the best outdoor outfitter, sporting goods store in town... But that's a different review. We cannot wait to visit again.

I stayed here for an extended stay of about a month. While several front-line staff members were…read moreexcellent, my overall experience was defined by management interactions that ultimately made me feel unwelcome. First, I want to recognize staff who genuinely provided good hospitality: * David and Ben were excellent and helped move my belongings efficiently when I needed to change rooms. * Michael in the dining area consistently made me feel welcome and taken care of. * Alan at the front desk was kind, efficient, and allowed me to view multiple rooms before finalizing a move. * Jennifer at the front desk was warm and thoughtful from check-in onward, personally delivering items to my room and following up to ensure I was comfortable. * The evening front desk associate was also friendly and helpful. These individuals did their jobs well. Unfortunately, my interactions with the manager, Erika, are what led to this one-star rating. When I transferred rooms due to excessive highway noise, I was explicitly offered the option to place my larger items in storage. I did not have time to move everything that day. When I later called to follow through on what had been offered, the response from Erika was unexpectedly negative. Rather than simply explaining a change in policy or availability, the tone felt dismissive and transactional, and prior accommodations were repeatedly framed as things the hotel "didn't have to do." That reversal -- being offered a solution and then spoken to harshly for trying to use it -- made me feel uncomfortable and like I was asking for too much by requesting something I had already been told was available. This pattern carried over into other interactions (such as towel availability), and over time it created the sense that my presence was an inconvenience. Additional issues during the stay: * I had to change rooms due to excessive highway noise. * One of the two elevators was out of service, which is a major issue when staying on the fourth floor for an extended period. * The mini refrigerators (both the in-room unit and an additional one later provided) intermittently made loud mechanical noises. * Communication around towel availability was inconsistent, including being required to exchange used towels just to receive clean ones. * The pool shower delivered cold water when set to hot, and the pool water had a strong bleach smell. * No visible recycling or composting options. One small positive: despite the elevator issue, the stairwells are carpeted and heated, which made using them more tolerable. While I truly appreciate several staff members, the way I was spoken to by management -- particularly after being offered accommodations and then criticized for requesting them -- made this an uncomfortable and unwelcoming experience. Because of that, I do not plan to return to this property, and I would choose a different hotel in the future.
