It is so amazing to see a store like this pop-up in the "New Seattle era," one that encourages the exploration our individual creativity while also fostering community. Our VYEE instructor was Kellie, the enthusiastic and passionate owner of The Works in Seattle (2/11/21). I signed up thinking ahead for something fun to look forward to. After my recent past two weeks, this event was so welcomed! I'm always curious how artists and craftspeople create unique items and are able to establish a vibrant indie business too. I've taken other similar classes that allows for creativity and a timeout from the day-to-day. The vibe that Jennifer and Kellie created during this hour session, and seeing others with their custom, handmade bath bombs...this was a much needed and appreciated this evening. I ordered my kit on 2/8/21 intended to pick it up in person. And of course, life interfered. But the folks at The Works worked their magic, kindly got it in the mail, and I received it day of the event. Lovely packaging. Makes a great gift! Techniques are freely shared and allowed for further creativity with additional tips from Kellie and other Yelp Elites participating. I listened intently, took copious notes, and took screenshots. Inside the Bath Bombs Kit are all the items needed, including an instruction booklet, and video link to watch later for reference. Other items needed and not included are a mixing bowl, fork, 1 Tablespoon measuring spoon, and up to 3T water. After giving this process a whirl, (makes about 4 bath bombs from the kit) the choices and combos one can continue to create are infinite! Add in some creativity, you'll learn a really top notch skill, promote self care, and can give as gifts. Art meets science! Push/Pull is an "underground art and comix" shop that sells and promotes 'Art, Supplies, Classes,…read moreand Community.' Came here for the community aspect as they hosted one of many locations for a town wide community cocktail walk was going on. We sipped cardamom-lemon vodka here as featured by a local restaurant. While there we chatted with the shop employees who were very nice. While sipping we browsed the studio looking at are pieces by local artists which can be purchased. A perfect example of supporting small business and local art. Push/Pull lives up to their statement being a part of and promoting the community. There is a fair amount art supplies here - including but of course not limited to Sketch books, brushes, glazes, paints, easels and more. They offer classes and have info about events going, so if you're an artist and want to be in more 'in the know' it may be worth checking out Push/Pull simply for that. I hope Push/Pull continues to be a part of the neighborhood!

i visited soil yesterday following the opening of a three…read moreperson show that intrigued me. despite it being mother's day and a sunday, i was happy to see the soil was open and adhering to their posted hours. unlike other more pretentious galleries in the sodo/pioneer square area, this is a small space that may not be able to exhibit a huge quantity of large pieces but what they managed to hang was plenty to get a sense of the artists highlighted in this more recent exhibition. each artist had an "area" with a posted artist bio and multiple pieces. because each of the artists in this specific exhibition define themselves as latinx or chicano, i was particularly interested in how their stated ethnicities would provide perspective with which they would portray their chosen subject matter and for two of them three of them, i was far from disappointed! their works were incredibly interesting in terms of style, color, perspective and media they chose to work in. because soil small, whatever you're going to see is t going to require a long visit. i could see making soil a stop on a first thursday gallery walk. there were two people there when we arrived and they were great about greeting us but letting us look at the art without feeling monitored or pressured. depending on how you decide to get to soil, parking could be an issue. light rail would certainly bring you walking distance close, as would the metro bus. we took the water taxi from west seattle and then walked up from coleman dock which was super easy. there is on street parking in the vicinity but you may be hard pressed to find it on certain days or during certain hours. all in all a good experience and nice to know soil is artist-run. i will track other exhibits they have in the future and hope they manage to stick around for those of us who enjoy seeing art in non-aggressive gallery settings.

There were a few people inside who just stared at me as I tried the door and did nothing as I stood outside the door calling the phone number, which is just a recording telling you to email them. I finally had to repeatedly knock on the glass door to get even one of them to pantomime they were closed. Next time I see something at Soil, just going to assume it's not actually happening, skip getting harassed by the homeless folk outside the gallery, skip being treated like garbage by the folk inside the gallery, and find a friendlier more reliable gallery. I suggest you do the same.

Equinox Studio had an Open House for Xmas presents. I enjoyed seeing the numerous Artists, Metal…read moreworks, Iron Art for Burning Man. I saw Nobi and The Force perform too. They were at the Summer Open House too. There are more Artists here than in Pioneer Sqr's Artwalk here in Georgetown. They got some crowds but more people go to Pioneer Sqr monthly. There were a few Food Teucks there. They had two Bonfires. But at least it was not rainy hard to watch the Live Entertainment.

For three years in a row I've been checking out Equinox Studios for their massive holiday party…read more While the various studios here are open all throughout the year, the holiday party is a big open house designed at showing off nearly all of the artist's spaces while hosting art fans from around the city. There's live music, wine, beer, food and of course art, in tons of mediums! The studio spaces run from teeny tiny to generous and straight up huge! Some spaces are ideal for woodworking and even metalworks while others (upstairs) are quieter and better suited for painters, sculptors and so on. If I could get back into painting again, I'd definitely want to rent a studio here. Not only does the art community seem really tight knit in Georgetown, it's also just a really peaceful and creative space to hang out.

Review of the Kiddo Play Area: So this pandemic thing is really taking a toll on things, and well,…read morewe have been to basically every open air playground around the Greenwood/Broadview/Carkeek area... except we realized that we haven't been to the one behind the PNA. So on a cold, non-rainy day, we took the kiddo there to see if it was any good. Keep in mind that it's reserved for the preschool during the week/business hours, but on the weekend, it was a nice change of scenery. They had a few play structures, on a mulch and rubberized area. Sure, parental guidance is required, and you really should have a "toddler" kiddo here... but for the kiddo, she enjoyed the slides, the "kitchen" and the tires. She being the expert of walking on narrow surfaces, I think enjoyed the areas like a balance beam master in training. If you have been everywhere, and you want a playground that is a nice scenery change, here's one more to add to the list. Also, nearby is Red Mill Burger, so there's that you could be eating, while your kiddo is playing to their heart's delight.
