One more stop on our Asheville trip was a stop at the French Broad Chocolate Factory. We were hoping to catch a tour before leaving town, but when we arrived the cashier told us there were no tours offered on the weekend, because they do have any production going. That being said, she did tell us we could walk up through the halls and take a "self guided tour". We could see into the production space and there were lots of signs and descriptions of what went on at each step of the process, as well as where they get their raw ingredients from and the relationships they have with the farmers in foreign countries. It was interesting to learn about, and see all that goes into the process. The self guided tour was free, the guided tours have a cost ($12 I think), but I believe also come with some sampling. The factory is very large, high ceilings and well lit, and obviously from what we could see of the production space, it was very clean! As far as the store, they offered a variety of bonbons, and candy bars, and hot chocolate mixes. Though they are a bit pricey, just beware of this when planning your visit. For example individual bon bons are $3 each, a 6 pack is $20. Yes, they are fine, hand made chocolates, but it certainly is not something everyone can budget for.

I've had French Broad Chocolate many times but this was my first time at the factory where it is made. Tours are offered here on certain days to see how it is done. The area where the factory is located suffered damage from Helene and the factory was closed for a while but they are back up and running now. The parking lot isn't very big so if you are planning to stop for a tour, I'd suggest arriving a little early. The tour begins in the education/tasting room and you get a history about chocolate and even get to try samples. Then we got taken to watch the process from the cocoa beans to the final products. If I remember correctly, it takes 18 hours from start to finish. You can still watch and see how things are done even if you aren't on the official tour as they have information boards up to read as you go. The shop in the front of the store had more products than I had seen at the downtown location. I was thrilled to find the peppermint bark and I had ordered for Christmas there. I loved it and tried to order more online but it wasn't available. I got some for me and some for gifts. I bought a little bit of everything so have plenty of chocolate for a while to last until I make it back for another purchase.

Sam gave our tour- Sam is Knowledgeable, passionate, funny, and easy going! Our kids loved the experience too- and they had coloring pages :) so don't let that stop you from supporting this great business and experience!

I definitely would recommend taking the tour! It is just long enough, but has lots of information! I never thought about all the minutiae of making excellent chocolate. Make sure to tip your tour guide! Use your 10% off tour coupon to get a "Liquid Truffle"...we can't be close to Asheville without getting one!!

Alllll the smells. We initially wanted to do the tour but the tickets sold out since we planned poorly. They do have a self guided tour that is free so we were still able to see the process and learn a little. We of course had to try the chocolate and it was amazing. We did a hot chocolate and a liquid truffle. The liquid truffle was a clear stand out. It's something. You just can't enjoy the same way at home. The whip in the hot chocolate is made in house which is always better than the grocery store version. We are so happy we made it to the factory. They were pretty busy and the line was pretty long. There was only one person working at the bar while we were there.

As soon as you park and exit your vehicle, you smell the aroma of roasting cocoa beans. When you walk into French Broad, you are enrobed in the smell of indulgent chocolate! You can see part of the factory through big glass windows on your right and there are chocolate treats and ice cream on your left. I didn't actually order anything when I visited because I was not hungry; but, it was still worth the visit to bask in the lovely scent of chocolate! If I find myself in the area again, I think I'd try the drinking chocolate or some ice cream.

Always An Unforgettable Experience at French Broad Chocolate Lounge! I have been coming to this local gem each time I am in Asheville!! Here's a snippet from my most recent visit: From the moment I walked in, I was enveloped in warmth--not just from the rich aroma of chocolate, but from the incredible service. A special shoutout to Owen, who went above and beyond to make the experience truly memorable. Knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely passionate about chocolate, Owen added a personal touch that elevated the visit to something extraordinary. The Hot Chocolate & Liquid Truffle? Absolute Magic. The classic hot chocolate was everything you dream of on a crisp Asheville day--velvety, chocolatey, and perfectly balanced. But the star? The liquid truffle. Decadent, intense, and absolutely divine! Chocolates That Tell a Story I also picked up some of their handcrafted chocolates--each one bursting with flavor and artistry. It's clear that French Broad takes pride in ethical sourcing and artisanal craft, and you can taste the love in every bite. Support Local, Taste Global French Broad isn't just a chocolate shop--it's a pillar of Asheville's vibrant local scene. They combine heart, hospitality, and high-quality craft in a way that makes every visit feel both cozy and elevated. Whether you're a local or just passing through, don't miss this gem. Come for the hot chocolate, stay for the soul. And if you're lucky, Owen will be there to make your day.

I love a good factory tour and this one here at French Broad Chocolate did not disappoint. You get more than your moneys worth, especially when you consider the low price of the tour. You have a great video presentation with easy to understand but informative information, then a guided tasting, then a tour of the factory. The chocolate is delicious and our guide was fantastic!

This is the one to go to if you want to check out how it's all made. They don't have the same variety of pastries and such but they have easy parking and ice cream and of course chocolates.

OMG, the chocolate, ice cream and cookies here are indescribable. The peanut butter cookie I got that was half dipped in chocolate had a dusting of sea salt and a perfect mix of salty and sweet. My son got a coffee nib ice cream and my wife got a toasted coconut ice cream. They have excellent chocolate and I can see why it is so highly rated.

Can't go wrong with this place. It has ample seating, parking, and options inside to pick from. That golden milk ice cream is amaziiiing. You can also do a tour of the chocolate lab

What a super fun treat to do while in town. We did the wine and chocolate pairing. Note there's no factory tour in a Sunday. Our educator was informative and nice. The whole experience was informative, fun and tasty. The factory smells yummy and you can walk around to check things out. Then buy some chocolates.

Come to this location instead of downtown. It's so much more spacious and the actual factory is here along with free parking.

    Is sugar free chocolate available?

The only sugar free chocolate we offer is 100% cacao bar. This is simply roasted cacao ground to creamy smoothness. Note it is bitter and intense, as it contains no sweetener whatsoever. We do not use artificial sweeteners, so don't offer sugar-free…

I indulged in my four pieces of chocolate, nice and slow when I was back at my hotel room lol. The dark chocolate peanut butter cup had to have been my favorite. The spicy pecan caramel really caught me off guard and I knew when I do go back and visit I will be bringing back a separate box for my husband of those and any other of their spicy chocolates and caramels. The inside was clean, well lit, and the staff were very friendly and helping choose different options.

The day we went seemed to be short staffed, so things took longer than expected, but our experience overall was great. When they were ready for us, they guided us to the fitting rooms with showers. We were given shoes, robes, towels, and tote bags. There are no official lockers here, so you are welcome to take your tote with you into your private bath. The fitting room had everything you needed. When we were ready we had another long wait, but were invited to enjoy the sauna. They gave us refreshing mint iced washcloths for the sauna that I loved. They have a menu with a bunch of great add-ons, I decided to stick with the water, but my best friend got the coconut water. When our bath was ready, they showed us a map on how to get down to our soak. We walked down a beautiful hill path to our bath overlooking the forest. Even though we started late, they still gave us the full hour. The intercom system seems to be a bit older. There was an awkward moment where they tried to speak to us, but we couldn't hear them over the hot tub bubbles, when I went back to ask them what they said, they never replied. Besides that, we had a wonderful time. Be mindful that the drive up is a bit confusing, you'll want to do a mix of following their signs and your GPS. The price of the Ashi Foot Soak was expensive, $175.00 is a lot of money for about an hour long session and to say that we were a bit let down is an understatement.
