I love all the meals at this restaurant, especially the wonderful baked goods. The service is good and there is almost a French atmosphere, even when it is not crowded. I've been here a few times and enjoyed the authentic French cuisine and waitresses!!!! Very cool atmosphere with a French vibe! I've had the mushroom crepe (which was delicious!) and a sausage, mushroom, and cheese omelette which was also extremely good! My wife had the tuna salad sandwich and butter squash soup that she really enjoyed. Anyway, why only 4 stars??? Well, both times I've been there it was like I was invisible for the first 10 minutes. It's been two years since I've been to the French Corner Cafe! I was so happy to finally go back and enjoy a beautiful almond croissant and cappuccino on the patio this morning! It was divine!! Mark (the owner) was welcoming and gracious, happily serving the table of regulars beside me. I can't say enough good things about this place. I absolutely love it! I think the pastries are hands-down the best in the valley. They're fresh and exquisitely made. I took a bag of chocolate croissants home with me, because when food is this good, you have to share! For appetizers, we ordered French hot chocolate - the best we've ever had... so thick and just the right flavor (not over powering)... and a chocolate croissant. A busy French cafe in palm desert! The desserts and pastries are delicious but the breakfast is pretty average. I tried eclairs and coffee cake and both were yum whereas the omelette and crepes were only average. I had better crepes at the Thursday village fest in Palm Springs. The place is highly understaffed. Our server was also handling the front desk for to go orders apart from serving several tables. We had an amazing lunch at this quaint spot. We were greeted right away when we entered by a friendly lady. Even though in door dining was open their very cute patio space was where we wanted to relax and have an extended lunch break. They had mister's going on the sunny day which felt wonderful in the lovely Palm Springs weather. Our order for drinks and lunch was taken promptly. We went with the soup, sandwich and fries lunch combination. This included the most wonderful cup of French Onion Soup, a small Roast Beef Sandwich on a French bun and crispy fries. It was like having a french dip! They have french pastries and desserts to choose from as well. I took home some macaroons and an almond croissant, both of which were very tasty. The owner checked in on us and he was very friendly and welcoming. I will be sure to stop here the next time we are in the area. read more

We've been coming to this French restaurant and bakery for years. They have some of most amazing croissant au chocolat et amandes you can imagine. We've had their quiche and salads, sandwiches, soups - their soupe a l'oignon is authentic. Can't go wrong with a steak frites. The ambiance is quaint, and they have outdoor seating best in the season. The staff are wonderful - they have had the same staff for years and it's decidedly French. Everyone's prices have gone up, and I'll pay to keep enjoying the non-chain local restaurants that may have to charge more. The croissant was heavy and thoroughly underwhelming. The consistency was closer to a wet doughnut, than a croissant. The two items together cost $16. This is not a place for a quick stop and should not be listed under coffee houses. Please note that this reviewer is likely 30 to 40 years younger than most of the clientele at this restaurant. Their website menu graphics look really cheesy as if to appeal to unsophisticated American tourists so initially I shied away from what I thought would be a kitschy rendition of fake French food. I was steered to FCC since it opens at 8am for breakfast, and I didn't want to be caught dead at a Denny's. I'd rather be caught with my pants down at a French café although the French chef caricatures outside did give me second thoughts on entering, but what the hell... Nice little patio surrounded by sweet smelling potted herbs on the north side of the building to be protected from the strong noon day sun. Inside is functional, clean, low budget yet pleasant w/ mIx of tables & chairs, booths, banquette seating. Expect efficient, slightly aloof "Parisian" service. Initial line of sight coming in is a refrigerated case full of many post modern style French pastries made by Pâtissier Aimèric Davy. 1) Madagascar: Cylinder capped on both sides with thin chocolate squares of what seems to be shiny, gold dappled dark chocolate Ganache en gellée flavoured w/ orange just like the Chocolate Orange Glace at Bertillon on Île Saint Louis. The texture is meltingly smooth, thick, lush, but the surprise is having a crunchy, melt In your mouth Nougat crumbles hidden inside for contrast. Excellent haute cuisine touches. 2) Louvre is a soft moist chocolate sponge cake interlayered w/ fluffy chocolate Crème Pâtisserie. On top is a frosting of dark chocolate Ganache drizzled w/ milk chocolate. Garnishes are small round ball of nougat rolled in powdered chocolate, tiny chocolate twig, elegant touch of shimmering gold leaf. Both pastries are highly rich. Later I got to a friend's home, and cutting up the two pastries was satisfyingly enough for 4 people accompanied by strong, dark Irish Breakfast tea. 3) Breakfast was Quiche de Jambon which had a light, slightly buttery Pâte Brisée crust. The egg inside is fluffy like a Soufflé. The thick, diced smoked ham adds a meaty savory note. The salad ingredents remind me of Salade Niçoise but without the tuna. Lettuce greens, string beans, half boiled egg, tomato, grated carrots. Dressing in a 'gravy boat' is a creamy Moutarde de Dijon. Too early in the day for Vin/wine although a nice Côtes du Rhône of Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah would have been a good pairing. I opted for standard American ice tea. Next target will be the Moules Frites which originated in Belgium. 4 Yelp stars for surprisingly accomplished Cuisine Française. read more

Last visit was extremely disappointing: Waited 15 minutes to for someone to take our order, and 15 minutes for the check to come. We love the food - maybe the only place in the valley where you can find a Monte Cristo. That said, we find the service lacking. It starts when you walk in and you have to ask if you seat yourself or does a hostess seat you. Some of the staff don't even know. One can sit for 15-20 minutes waiting to order only to watch the just seated couple next to you have their order taken before you. What the heck?? We always like to start with a pastry - it either never makes it to the table or it comes half way into the meal. Kind of annoying. We only visit this place for breakfast! Croissant breakfast sandwiches are the best in the valley and their potatoes are to die for. We make an effort to only come for breakfast but one day during high season they told us no more breakfast orders are being served! Been living in Rancho Mirage for about a year now and have been here for breakfast about 10 times. The food is generally good, the almond croissant in particular is delicious, but the service SUCKS. They are VERY slow and unattentive. The two hispanic ladies that bring you your drinks and clear tables, etc do their best to pick up the slack but it's not always enough to guarantee an enjoyable experience. Until now I had chalked this up to it being a very European/French experience. But after today where they got my order wrong and I waited 15-20 minutes for them to run my credit card I've had enough. Especially after paying over $50 for a breakfast for two. As others have said, they have no clue who walked in when and who has been waiting to place their order. You have to flag them down at times to get their attention and I have had times where the waiter/waitress have taken an order next to my table and walked away as if I wasn't there (no hello, no eye contact, no "I'll be right with you", zilch). This despite the fact that it's OBVIOUS from looking at the table that not even my drink order has been taken. The worst offender is unbelievably one of the owners (from what I was told). He is a tall slender guy with dark hair and French. He is rude. He doesn't greet you with a welcoming smile and has an air about him as if he is doing YOU a favor by taking your order. Took our order today and never saw him again. Again, one of the hispanic ladies tried to make it right but it was too little too late. My eggs were cooked wrong and by the time I got someone's attention the other person at the table was almost done with their meal. Been coming here for over 6 years. Menu prices have gone up dramatically and the menu has been reduced drastically. There's only a few pastries in the window now. Most of the pastry window has been replaced by merchandise. The food isn't consistent. We got a $21 salad that used to have more than just lettuce in it (I recall green beans, egg, carrots...), and a $18 croissant Turkey sandwich which was bland and had pressed deli meat.
