I do not know how they put such great flavor in such a small location! It is amazing. We had the mini cream puffs, ham & cheese sandwich and Caprese sandwich. Everything was fresh and delicious. I don't really know where to start, but the short version is there are very few redeeming attributes about this cafe. Service: 0/5 Food: 2/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Value: 1/5 Salient Notes: * It came out to almost $80 for a very small amount of food and only one coffee. There are no prices to be found anywhere, which is exactly how they want it. You order and then by the time you find out, it's too late. * The cashier was not friendly and seemed like she really didn't want to be there. Took endless requests, with only one customer in line (i.e. they were far from overwhelmed), to get our table cleaned off. And when they finally got rid of all the dirty dishes and cups, they didn't wipe it down. I went and got napkins, wetted them, and wiped off all the crumbs and food remnants myself. * When they finally brought out our food, first came the croissant. It was not heated and they never asked us if they wanted it heated. I think even Denny's would ask that question or just bring it heated. The table had not yet been bussed when they brought the croissant by the way. * When the rest of the food was brought, it was brought by the same person who bussed the table, which to me is kind of gross. Grabbing dirty napkins and plates and then later bringing me out my food with those same hands, surely not washed in between, is very gross to me. It's like being the person who handles both the money and the food; you are supposed to separate those functions. * I asked them which crepe was which when they brought out the food. Confusion ensued and the server/busser went to find out. She came back out and identified them with great conviction. Of course she was wrong, and I was eating the wrong person's food and vice verse before we figured it out. * The latte we ordered was pathetic. It tasted like gas station coffee with hot milk. No crema or foam. Very thin and watery tasting. No sweeteners or coffee stirrers were brought of course, so I had to go get them myself. * The ham and cheese crepe (asked them to hold the pickles, and was amazed that they remembered) was even more pathetic. It was a ham crepe with some molecular particles of cheese, visible only by electron microscope. Go to Elena's Crepes in Oceanside to find out what a ham and cheese crepe is supposed to taste like, for about 40% less price. The crepe itself was actually good quality. The filling is where they were way off though. * The slice of cake was ok but got quite a bit better as it reached room temp and the cream filling softened up. It didn't taste super fresh, but I'm not sure on that one. * It's a cute cafe in a good location with nice seating, both inside and out. The music was good and was not overwhelming. It had a good vibe. In short, good ambiance, terrible service, mediocre food, and super-inflated prices. Definitely will not be going back. read more

Oh wow. This might be the best quiche I've ever had! The flavors, the crust... it's so delicious! I'm so glad I saw this shop on Yelp. We are staying in the area for a few weeks and I was looking for a place I could walk and grab coffee. Everything in the pastry counters looked so yummy I had to try breakfast as well. I had a granola bar with some kind of jam in the center. Equally as delicious as my quiche! Fresh ingredients. Even the side salad that is usually an after thought tasted like fresh from the garden greens and homemade or thoughtfully selected balsamic. This is a cute corner cafe on Encinitas with some outdoor seating. They have lots of baked goods. I've tried their pistachio lemon cake and their pain au chocolat. The cake was very lemony and not much pistachio flavor (just pistachio on the top), and the pain au chocolat wasn't bad but I've had better. I preferred their brunch foods. A friend and I shared the artichoke quiche and the breakfast sandwich and both were good! The quiche was very fluffy and had a lot of artichoke. Found this cute spot while staying at the Seabluffe community on a 2 week vacay. And now every time i am in Encinitas (once or twice a year) I make it a point to come here. I love the varied coffee menu. My favorite is Le Miel (latte with honey and cinnamon). I can't say much about a lot of the menu because I ALWAYS get the Le Citron Crêpe. If you've never had a lemon crepe before...they are tres délicieux! If you are a lemon lover you have to have one. This is worth a visit for anyone who likes crepes and French bakeries. read more

Nothing here we tried tasted anything remotely French at all. The croque monsier was one of the worst I've ever had. The Dijon mustard just didn't go with this dish. And it tasted super oily. Ooolala! I just discovered the French Corner! Where have I been? And it's just around the corner from me ( see what I did there ha!). The food is magnifique! There's a variety of quiches to choose from as well as some omelets and French bakery goods to indulge in. I recommend the Coffee Cake, and the Croissants, oh and the Scones and the Turnovers! Went to this place to pick up some brunch and decided on their provence crepe. The crepe itself was super fluffy and they had a good amount of filling. I really liked the sundried tomatoes but didnt really like the goat cheese ( but I also dont like lamb and didnt think the taste wud be that strong). French Corner is a pretty cool spot located right in the heart of Leucadia. This place has some really awesome crepes but the menu itself can be overwhelming as it is quite substantial. Aside from the crepes, the egg sandwich on a baguette is pretty freaking good too, doesn't look like much but tastes delicious. The coffee leaves a bit more to be desired as it seems a bit bitter, but there are several other coffee joints in the area to make up for it. A hidden gem in Leucadia, this legit French bakery and cafe turns out amazing croissant, beautiful pastries, savory quiche, and wonderful crêpes. Bask in the beach sunshine at charming wooden tables, and experience authentic cuisine. Not hard when the owner is both French and classically trained, and she schools her staff in the traditions. I tried the almond croissant, which put a big smile on my face because it was the first one that I've had in years that was properly made. I can't say that my finding this place was by bon chance. One of their pâtissiers, Carmen, was at a nearby eatery, after making her delivery there. She was showing one of the guys at the restaurant photos of her latest creations. The foodie in me got the better of me, and I could help but compliment such outstanding work. So, on my way to the airport, I dropped by to witness all this magnificent cuisine. I only wish that I could take it with me, and avoid the McEateries at my layover. Alas, with the TSA in government shutdown mode, I'm sure that they'd have a fine meal after confiscating it. She personally had picked them out and maybe she was annoyed because I had arrived two minutes before the official opening time of 7:30 causing her to have to tell me to "wait a few minutes." I would have given them back but had already driven away. I asked for one, at room temperature and a cup of their house drip French coffee. The croissant was one of those croissant, that who every made it, knew what they were doing. The croissant was flaky and had a great butter texture and flavor. It came loaded, I say loaded with crunchy slivered almonds and was stuffed with the most delicious mouthwatering almond paste one can make. The almond paste was more than just a paste, because it was loaded too with bits of chopped almonds and provided a great butter rich flavor as well. I've had many of almond croissants, but this one tops the list with it great texture, flavor, and plethora of almonds. It does not get any better then this one. The French drip was rich and smooth, and no doubt went very well with the mouthwatering almond croissant. The owners appears to be very nice. I wanted to chat with her, but she was very busy, so I just relaxed and enjoyed myself. The place is small, and does not provide inside seating, but it does have plenty of outside seating available; including a small back patio. From the moment you walk up to the door you have the aroma of baked goods in the air! You will fall in love at this moment...much like Pepe Le Pew. Authentic french pastries through and through. I was hosting an event and looking for a particular type of pastry from Bordeaux called a cannele. I called at least 6 other "french" bakeries in north county and most of them had no clue what I was even talking about. It's specific to the region but not unheard of (you can even buy frozen ones at Trader Joe's) The folks at French 101 not only knew what I needed but worked with me to bake some just for my event. When I went in to make the order, they had samples of their almond croissant (still warm, out of the oven) and OMG- I was hooked! You can tell that they make the effort to use fine ingredients and have an emphasis on freshness. I have to say that this is my new favorite in North County. While other french bakeries create typical pastries that look pretty, French 101 keeps the french tradition alive with its emphasis on quality. I hope to be back soon. read more
