This quaint bakery in the center of Cohasset village offers a very tasty assortment of baked goods. The almond croissant and Boston/New York are an absolute must! There is a decent tea selection available and in my opinion the coffee here is the best out of the other options in the area. There is a food menu offering various options for breakfast and lunch such as soups and sandwiches. I haven't tried any of that, but the food always looks delicious and it smells great in French Memories. The staff is always very welcoming and attentive to customers and the owner is very gracious and kind whenever I ask about the menu and certain French baked goods! read more

Maybe we hit it on an off day, but my memories are feeling just slightly disappointed based upon the excellent reviews on here. We actually stopped in after eating an early lunch at another establishment down the road because I wanted something sweet to finish, and where better than a French bakery. The place is super cute, bright and inviting. Plenty of tables inside to sit with a small group or just by yourself, or on a nice day grab a seat outside and do some people watching. It smelled divine and I was really excited to try something. After perusing the shelves and numerous options, we opted for a Napoleon. The cashier was a young girl who was not super stoked to be working on such a beautiful day, but such is life, and she was pleasant enough. We took our treat to a table for two near the windows and realized we would likely need napkins and a knife. Napkins were easy enough to find, but we had to go back to the counter and inquire about cutlery. Turns out, they were in a less obvious spot, but again, easy enough. Back at the table, we attempted to cut the Napoleon in half and quickly realized our plastic knife was not about to do any cutting. The glazed icing on top was so rock-like that we actually had a hard time breaking it with our hands. I ended up getting most of the icing because it was easier to bite into it than anything else. So much for proper table etiquette. The pastry layers themselves were stale and it was apparent our Napoleon was likely a day or two old. Bummer. I will say that the flavors were spot on - the almond accent was fab. 3 stars due to the difficulty of actually consuming the pastry. I'd still return if in the area and give it another chance, because I think it has good potential. Perhaps Mondays are just not the best day. read more

Ooh la lah!! We adore this bakery. Nothing is better than a Saturday morning drive over to this fabulous place for a coffee and a croissant or whatever else might strike your fancy. Today I tried something new; a slice of cherry clafoutis. It was a rich, decadent, not too sweet slice of cherry heaven. All the tarts are simply fantastic. One of my favorites is the pear-almond tart. You really can't go wrong no matter what baked delicacy you select. We always leave with one of their loaves of bread for later. Today, it was the olive bread which is one of our favorites. Their coffee is good as well, hot or iced, cappuccino or regular. The anticipation built up in driving to French Memories is as comparable to a 7+ hour flight to Paris. The set-up isn't too large, nor is it too cramped. The atmosphere breathes Francophone and I am not even referring to the couple and their children who run the cafe. As my passion for all things French grew from a humble childhood filled with Babar and Madeline, I developed a selective taste for what French should feel like, taste like. After spending a holiday in France, this taste reached its zenith; I was introduced to FM during these tumultuous times filled with lofty expectations and I must say that the bakery did not disappoint. There is an art to making croissants. There is the butter, the right amount of flakiness, which catapult a croissant beyond its competitors. Consuming the croissant is akin to those special moments in relationships, where time stops. French Memories -- Your croissants never fail to make my heart skip a beat and stop time. The croissants are heaven and that's why I make the 40 minute round trip from Braintree on Saturday mornings. Whether it's plain, chocolate or ham & cheese they are all perfectly buttery and filling. The ham & cheese are a meal on there own and make sure to ask for them warmed up. I have also tried the apple tart. It's not filled with apples, more like a custard with some apples on top. The tart gets mixed reviews. However, there are plenty of other pies, cakes and french goodies to try. They also have a pate case that I will soon be sampling from and they make sandwiches that I'd like to try in the future. The bakery also sells coffee, espresso, etc. and plenty of cafe seating with a fairly limited noise level. I just wish they had a website so you could see what they normally carry and make holiday orders ahead of time a bit easier. read more

I have been here several times and I'm never very impressed. I've tried the quiche and it's pretty decent. The spinach & cheese stuffed croissant is terrible though - soggy and heavy. Imagine a croissant stuffed with mushy spinach dip (the kind that is meant to have chips dipped in it) and then micro waved. Yuck. Most recently, I tried the turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwich on a baguette. While the baguette was good and the cranberry sauce (canned) and stuffing (most likely Stove Top) were satisfactory, there was exactly one slice of turkey on each half of the sandwich. One slice of oval-shaped, deli turkey per half! It was laughable. I'm always foolish enough to believe that when a place offers this type of sandwich they will serve a nice portion of real, rotisserie turkey, and more often than not, the joke is on me (as was the case here). The pastries are good though. I've had both a fruit tart and a strawberry rhubarb tart (though there is a lot of variety of delicious looking things in the case). My only issue with yesterday's strawberry rhubarb tart was that it was really cold, almost chilled. It would have been much more enjoyable at room temperature. Service here is pretty lackluster but it's not surprising since it's pretty much all high school kids working here. read more

I was surprised at how dirty the shop was. Sure it doesn't smell bad and there isn't trash everywhere, but when you look at the displays, the trays look like they haven't been washed, the windows look like they have build up both on the inside and the outside and the stations where the food is prepared doesn't look like it's kept very well. Sure, they might be passable enough for a health inspector, but I like to see food places put a little more effort into the presentation of the storefront. Otherwise I get concerned about how bad things are in the areas that are out of sight. Anyway, let's get to the food part. I had very good cookies from them. I've never heard of an orange cookie before and I tried a chocolate chip orange cookie. Highly recommended. I also had a white chocolate chip cookie which was very good. My co-worker told me about their macaroons & I'm sure she said she's had about 20 of them in all their flavors. While I didn't buy food from them, I noted that they sell reasonably priced sandwiches in addition to the various desserts. They also have a nice little sitting area outside and the store itself is relatively spacious. I understand they're probably going for a small neighborhood cafe concept. But you don't need to sacrifice cleanliness for charm. Being pristine and having character are not mutually exclusive. read more

Whenever I go home to visit this is one of my favorite spots to veg out. For one I love their croque monsieur. It is so good and made fresh every day. The cheese melts just right and is a little piece of heavenly cheesy goodness. The pastries are delicious but I'm always a suckered for the dark chocolate tart. It is so rich and the crust is amazing. Plus the tootie fruitie is to die for. I love their croissants as well. The decor is so cute and quaint. I love the stained glass windows in front, such a cute touch. This place will always hold a special place in my heart because my father and I loved to eat here for breakfast. The only memory I have of "French memories" is how my taste buds were so pleased they didn't know what to do with themselves. This is a quaint little bakery that is located directly across the street from the Red Lion Inn. This bakery is the Mecca for hands down the BEST Macaroons and Napoleons I have EVER had in my LIFE. Introduced to this gem by an ex-boyfriend this truly was the best thing that ever came out of the relationship! Located in Cohasset, I usually only visit this place after a wedding or if I'm down on the south shore area. (I'm a north shore gal)So it truly is a treat for me when I do get to enjoy their masterpiece pastries! If you like black flies in your bakery and mold on your homemade " fresh" bread then this place is for you. Sadly the establishment is dirty and always filled with black flies in the pastry cases. Walk across the street for really fresh non moldy bread( yes I bought a fresh loaf yesterday at French memories only to get home and see the bottom covered in mold) and a much cleaner facility. Or head down the road to the great independent coffee shop. French memories could be great but the dour workers also do not help to overcome the flies and mold and the owners do not realize that they are not the only game in town anymore. Gross!!!! read more

I was very pleasantly surprised to find this french bakery right across from the popular wedding venue Red Lion. I stopped in for an almond croissant -- there were many other tempting desserts but I was just there to pick up a bite for breakfast. The croissant seemed just a tiny bit overbaked, but the inside was still rich and dense. Since everyone raved about the croissants, I tried the almond one, and was not let down. Delicious. I went here for the first time today, so I don't know if they were having an off day or if my experience was normal. My first impression was that it was dirty. Dirty in that way where you're wondering what the heck the food prep area must look like if this is what they show to customers. There were even weird stains on the ceiling that looked like mold. My sandwich, chicken salad, tasted good, but it looked like the knife used on it hadn't really been cleaned before making my sandwich because there was some cranberry sauce on the bread. Also, the sandwich was served in a wooden basket lined with wax paper, which seemed charming at first. But then I dropped some of my sandwich on the wooden part and realized that this material probably couldn't really be cleaned ever. That aside, the service was lackluster. I felt rushed, wasn't given the opportunity to order drinks, and never got the almond croissant I tried to order. With all of this, plus the nausea that kicked in within an hour after leaving, I don't think I'll be giving it a second chance. read more

Met some friends here recently and everyone was more than satisfied. Very friendly quaint little shop. But the fact that they were little didnt leave them short on great offerings. While one person in the group only had coffee, others had quiche and some had sandwiches, we sampled and split some of the pasteries. The staff was great, they do need to try to clean up tables a little bit more. But most of the patrons were willing to clean and move them to accomodate themselves. There's room for many many more places like this. The coffee and pasteries were reasonably priced and are head and shoulders above any of the local chainstores in the area. read more

Love this place!! My friend moved to Paris years ago so I've been able to get over there twice now. The croissants in Paris are amazing!! Particularly the almond and chocolate-almond ones. I never cared for them before my trip, never mind craved them. Then I found myself missing the ability to eat them for a while after each trip (serious French croissant withdrawals). I tried almond ones at a few bakeries over here but they tasted nowhere near as delicious as the ones I ate each morning when in Paris and Marseille... then a miracle happened! A friend told me about French Memories Bakery last summer and the almond croissants taste just like the ones you'd get at a Boulangerie in France!!! So delicious!! I've heard the owners are from France and I can tell bc they taste amazing. I've become a croissant snob after going abroad and these are the real deal. I can actually tell when an almond croissant will taste good to me now just by looking at it and these look just like the ones I enjoyed in France. So I have a slight croissant addiction and I'm glad this place is 15 min away or I'd be there every morning!! The coffee, macaroons and baguettes are delicious as well. I haven't tried anything else bc I want the same thing every time. If they're out I go for a chocolate croissant with my coffee. I prefer this location over Duxbury just because there's outdoor seating and it's larger inside, but both offer the same delicious things I believe. read more

The staff was friendly and very nice, they had a wide variety of fresh brewed coffee, pastries & sweets! The prices were reasonable, considering things are homemade and fresh. This is probably the best bakery I've ever been to, period. The almond fruit tarts are the best dessert I've ever had and their food / breads are also some of the best.
