Dropped by as a walk-in on a Saturday afternoon for the wine tasting flight. We sat inside and really liked the interior design. The courtyard is also a beautiful place to sit and there were many people outside enjoying the sun. In comparison to other tasting rooms we went to that weekend, the staff didn't rush to explain each wine and they were very warm and receptive to questions. We enjoyed the flight and our time there. We had a reservation this past weekend at Frequency Wine Company. We were seated a few minutes early in the outside courtyard, which was a very nice area. There were families, dogs, and people just drinking wine and enjoying the afternoon sunshine. The wines were very nice to taste, with a few whites and reds. We also had a few tastings off the menu. We each took a few bottles home with us to enjoy later. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We never had to wait to long to move on to the next tasting, and the pours were good. A must visit if you are in the Santa Barbara downtown area. The service is great and very accommodating. We usually taste red wines and most of their wines are GSM or Syrah. The grapes are from Colson Canyon and Stn.Rita Hills which are the best in Santa Barbara area, The reds are very tasty, delicious and full of layers. We usually go to the wineries, but if you like to do a casual wine tasting without driving along roads this is the best place. Frequency Wines has become my local watering hole when I'm looking for a few essential things: - Chill ambiance, check! - A glass of extremely drinkable wine, check! - Good company, check! I absolutely adore the fact that they are almost completely family run. The winemaker Zac and his sister Almond (who is now the tasting room manager) both started learning and mastering their wine knowledge at my other favorite Santa Barbara County winery, Andrew Murray. They brought their sweet Italian mother Maria in to help create their tasting room first in Los Alamos to pour. Now a year later (anniversary of 6/25/18), they celebrated being open in downtown Santa Barbara near the historic Presidio. I must mention two of the other Frequency "family members," Riley and Anne, who help out in the daily business operations and tasks--Love these girls! Over time, I was able to befriend and get to know the crew. I thank them for teaching me so much about wine. Now onto what you want to hear about: WINE! I rarely go to a tasting room where I enjoy every single wine poured. To be honest, I often skip or dump out white wines after a single sip. NOT HERE! Their Chardonnay is uniquely crisp and smooth without the classic butter or oak notes. I am also not a fan of the most sought after grape in Santa Barbara, Pinot Noir. However, theirs remains totally drinkable and enjoyable. Besides these Burgundy varietals, Frequency actually specializes on Rhone varietals, particularly Syrahs! They are absolutely succulent and fruity. My absolute favorite Syrah, when in season, comes from the Shokrian vineyard. Well, use of the word 'favorite' is a tough one since I'm also a huge fan of their "GSM (Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre)" which has since been properly labelled as a "GSG" since a university viticulture study demonstrated that what was thought of being Mourvedre by many wineries was actually Graciano. I surprisingly like it more than a true GSM; double proven by their 100% Graciano wine. Frequency offers their Reserve wines, Artist Series (look for the fun whimsical labels) and DiPalermo labels which is a salute to Maria's Italian side of the family. If I haven't sold you on stopping in here for a tasting, then this will. Incredible wine tasting experience lead by the wine maker's Mom!! This was such a neat little spot with a great outside patio. The atmosphere throughout was simply perfect for wine tasting. We posted up outside and started our tasting of 5 wines (1 Chardonnay, 1 GSM blend, and 3 Pinot noirs). We're not typically Chardonnay drinkers although we actually liked the one we tried. It didn't finish quite like a typical Chardonnay which is why we probably enjoyed it. The GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) blend was something we've never experienced before and it was very good as well with a light and easy drinking taste. We love Pinot noirs and the 3 Pinots we tried were absolutely fantastic and it was those wines that encouraged us to join their wine club...that and the phenomenal tasting experience we received from Maria (Zac's mom...Zac is the winemaker)!! She was so much fun and had so much knowledge of wine and the wine making process. Just an absolutely joy to experience Frequency Wines with Maria! The wines are also delicious but the wines as delicious as they are, have a hard time competing with her. This is a family business, which I love to support. Almonds mom is super adorable! We were referred to Frequency by someone we met who lives in SB and I have to say that we were pleasantly surprised. They were pouring a Chardonnay, Rose if Grenache, three GSMs and two Syrahs. All of which were very good and drinkable now. Maria and Almond were working, who are Mother and daughter and both were friendly and wanted to ensure everyone was taken care of. This place was so great. Really cute ambiance and right next to an adorable cheese shop. They partner with the cheese shop and you can order some cheese to go with your wine which was delicious. The people who work there were also incredibly friendly and helpful, we went to some other wine bars that were a bit pretentious and snooty but not so here. Also, the wine was delicious, my favorite was their Blanc and we ended up taking home a bottle. I'm seriously considering signing up for the wine club. I really did enjoy this place and was close to joining as a member. I may go back and do so in the future. I've visited a few times. Tastings are a standard price of $15.00. Located next door is a place where you can order a cheese tray to pair with the wine your drinking which is neat and the staff is generally pleasant to speak with. This is a very new; small family tasting room and grapes are outsourced from a few different areas in California to make the wine. It's a good place to taste.
