Awesome all around experience! Ordered the large BBQ pizza which was on special and the curry butternut squash soup with the BBQ sandwich. Our order was ready in 20min for pick up which was super and the Covid precautions for pick up made it clear they value the safety of their employees and customers! The food was incredible! I'm old school so as soon as I saw, BBQ and knowing that it wasn't Beef or Pork, I ordered what was a BBQ Seitan Sandwich with ease. I'm not riding the Sriracha wave. A mi no me gusta. Service was cool. I sat sipping water, that I served myself--a plus and put my Kombucha I bought in my bag. The dude behind the counter warned me that it was strong.* I sat there, checking out the spot, snapping pics, reading the paper and thinking about the pizza I would order next time. By then my sandwich and quinoa salad were ready. My sandwich showed me that I prefer Tofu over Seitan but it was a bet. It was cool. I liked that it was warm and I liked the BBQ sauce. This place is a miracle. With an artsy exterior you can't miss, you will be transported into a haven for vegetarians and vegans. Not everything here is vegan, but all items on the menu can be made vegan. Although the pizza looked really good, I have not met a vegan cheese I like, so I played it safe and ordered the black bean burger and the butternut squash soup. My friend ordered tacos, which come in a set of three, as well as a cup of butternut squash soup. Since it was a pretty brisk January day that we had spent exploring outside, we needed food that was hearty and warm. Fresca's delivered! The flavors in my black bean burger were out of this world and everything about the sandwich flowed together perfectly. My omnivore friend loved her selections, and we both fell head over heels in love with the soup, especially to dip my sandwich in!! It helped that the bread on my sandwich had just been made in the brick oven onsite for my order! If I'm ever in Richmond again, I think I'll have to give the vegan pizza a try! One of the few all vegetarian spots in Richmond and they can make pretty much everything vegan, which is awesome. Food is consistently great. I've tried a bunch of their offerings but my favorite, hands down, is the vegan chicken salad. Soooo good! Even non-veg friends would love it. Their sides are pretty good as well. They have an awesome mustard potato salad (which I usually hate anywhere else, but here it's delish!) and the brussell sprouts are definitely worth a try. Fresca on Addison has always been a great, convenient spot for tasty, quick food with vegan and GF options. This place was my saving grace during my VCU days and I haven't been back since pre-COVID. The pita used was super fresh and ingredients were balanced just right. Total hit! Their pizza is decent, although the dough/crust was nothing to write home about. My only gripe is that their hours are very strange. They are only open 10AM-4PM which really limits people who work a 9-5 job. I am so happy to have discovered this hidden gem only walking distance to my home! This place rocks for a bunch of reasons; First one is cuz you can get anything on the menu vegan or gluten free. You can get a gluten free crust pizza with daia cheese. Simple. Second; they offer a good variety in thin crust pizza and sandwiches (Personally speaking, my fav is the lentil burger. Such a fulfilling sandwich with great consistency. Very good mock patty) From pizzas; I tried the pesto pizza today and l loved it. It has some tiny surprise potato chunks on it (surprise cuz you don't expect potatoes on your pizza, even though it is written on the menu). Third reason to love this place; They have a good selection of craft kombuchas as well as pure coconut water back in the fridge (it is hard to choose so get them both). Last but not least; The staff is very friendly and down-to-earth. Absolutely phenomenal food - beautifully prepared and presented - and everything, EVERYTHING, can be made vegan. The whole menu is basically vegan but they have feta and mozzarella as options for a couple of dishes. BUT FOR THE MEAT EATERS OUT THERE : I have taken tons of meat-eating friends here and NONE of them has ever been anything other than extremely blown away by the food. They love it. The slogan here is that you don't miss the meat and it's true. This is good food made by good people. Plain and simple. The only complaint I've ever heard about this place EVER is that they have limited hours (11-4, Tues-Sat) but the thing is, I completely appreciate why they do this - the owner/head chef wants to be completely in control of the quality of every dish that leaves her kitchen and because of that she only is open when she can be there. I respect that a lot. I'm currently working my way through the entire menu but for now some of my favorites are, basically everything I've ever eaten here: the curry veg tacos, sushi sandwich, kale Caesar, the orzo side, potato salad, the cookie, broccolini sandwich, LENTIL BURGER - to be sure, it's just all so good. I'm obsessed with the Greek Salad Sandwich! Obsessed. I cannot get enough of this vegetarian delight, and it has truly become my most-craved sandwich as of late. I don't know where they get the pita bread, but that whole wheat pita is pillowy soft and unlike any other pita I've had. Maybe it's because it's paired with lettuce, tomatoes, pepperoncinis, Greek dressing and feta, which sounds so simple, but comes together in a beautiful explosion of flavors. They also serve the pita slightly warm, which is just the perfect pairing with the crisp veggies. I had an errand to run in Carytown this afternoon around 3pm, and I purposefully didn't eat lunch so that I could pick up one of these beauties for an oddly timed meal. In fact, half of it is waiting for me in the fridge, and my tastebuds are super stoked to have it for dinner, too! I'm also a fan of their vegan pizzas with wheat crust, because even though I'm not vegan, I'm a sucker for vegan cheese. Weird, I know. I've tried the tacos, too, and they're pretty darn tasty. I've had the chorizo, seitan, and avocado and would recommend one of each (you can mix and match) to taste a variety of flavors. I couldn't tell you which was my favorite; I enjoyed all three. The lighting was kind of dim when I went in but that was really my only complaint. They had four different wines and a small beer selection as well. Mostly sandwiches with some entrees, all prepared in easy view of the dining room. You go to the counter and order and they bring you your food. They have vegan and vegetarian desserts on the counter and some market-type foodstuffs you can buy to take home with you (like at 8 1/2) along the counterside where food is prepared. It looked like it was mostly sandwiches and pizza, which I wasn't interested in eating while I was there. I picked an entree, the curry. That was a really great curry! I wanted something "light" for lunch and chose to embark on Fresca. Every time I head over to Lamplighter Roaster this place always caught my attention. So today was its lucky day! The board menu is located on the north side wall. I don't have the patients to glance at everything so I always ask the people who work the counter for their recommendations. The kind lady behind the prep line heard my indecisiveness on which to order. She recommended the Veggie Plate - it's light but you won't feel overstuffed, as I said "OK!! I'll take that..." the young women behind the cash register shouted out, "How about a Tomato Pita Sandwich?!" then said "I'll take that instead!!" See what I mean by indecisive? So I wait and was starving! I beat the lunch crowd and placed myself near the window overlooking Cary St... Food came and the first bite was HEAVEN!!! The Pineapple Cole Slaw was a refreshing side dish that complemented the summer aroma of the Tomatoe Pita Sandwich. The sides are delicious and my favorite is the apple/fennel slaw. Holy hell. I have gotten the greek salad pita, the broccolini with white bean spread. Amazing. My little brother got the BBQ plate when he visited and he loved it. It is all made right on site and you can watch it being made while you wait. Tip: DO NOT DISCOUNT THE GLUTEN FREE/VEGAN DESSERTS! I almost did and I really would have missed one of the most delicious chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. No need for all that. I have eaten at this restaurant multiple times and the food has been outstanding. Today I ate from this restaurant and there were two new female cooks that I've never seen before and the food was awful. I ordered a falafel sandwich with fries and the fries were cold.
