My wife and I found ourselves with nothing to do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, so we ventured to nearby Chester to get some Mexican. Our regular "go to" places are either Don Jose in Netcong, or the Chapala Grill in Hopatcong. Both are great, with the latter being the upscale and expensive option. On this day, we tried Fresco as we had heard a lot about it. Upon arrival, I was immediately disappointed that we didn't bring our little Chihuahua, as it is pet friendly and a family of four were dining with their chi resting in a stroller on the outside porch seating area. Should we return, we will bring ours. We started with a Queso appetizer ($11.95), and of course they brought the usual complimentary chips and salsa. I liked that they had three sauces to offer, one being more of a pico with fresh chunks of onion and tomatoes, the other two thin sauces with one of them being hot. Very hot, I liked it. The chips were interesting, not your usual larger thin chips, these were thicker and smaller wedge style. They were okay, but I prefer the traditional. I"m not certain I can confirm that they were baked on premises, they didn't seem to have that quality. The queso dip was quite good, thick and creamy when hot, and spread nicely over the tortillas that accompanied it. This establishment uses corn tortillas, probably because I believe they are more authentic to true Mexican cuisine. My own personal preference is flour tortillas for both flavor and texture. As a side note, before anything arrived, our server placed a dish on our table and walked away. It looked to be some type of avocado dish, but wasn't sure. I didn't pay full attention to what my wife ordered, so I dug in and grabbed a piece. It was then that the waiter came back, I think he realized that he put the wrong dish on the table, and took it away noting a piece missing. They brought it back to the kitchen area, NOT to the other table....but still. In my 35 years of dining experience, they should have owned that error and simply left it as it was touched by a customer. To take it back and (perhaps) throw it away was bad form, in my opinion. Our meals arrived quickly, she ordered a chimichanga ($15.95) and I ordered the steak fajitas ($21.95). I should have known what to expect when the server never asked me how I like my steak, which is a consistent question in the other two venues I referenced earlier. The strips of meat were very thin, and very well done as opposed to the medium rare I prefer. Accompanied by traditional onions and peppers, but they were not served on a sizzling plate which is always a nice presentation. They were surrounded by a more than ample serving of yellow rice and refried beans. Again, corn tortillas were presented and not enough of them. They never include enough to fully stock the other ingredients provided. My wife didn't care for her chimi, and I didn't either as I reheated it at home the next day. She asked for it sans beans, so perhaps that was the issue but it was overly stuffed with way too much rice to meat ratio, and the meat included was rather bland ground beef. The outside should have shown evidence of being deep fried, but it was softer and the color was off...like it never saw the oil. That's what a Chimi is, basically...a deep fried burrito. It was off, not a great first representation. The young servers were just great, no complaints about service beyond removing that one incorrect dish. They do offer a better price for cash, but it's really a removal of the service charge placed on the bill should you use a card. Jury is out if we would return. If we did, I would bring my dog and a pack of flour tortillas! It is BYOB, which is nice.

Great byob. I love the outdoor seating. Very friendly service and food was delicious. Guacamole was a must order. We also had a steak taco salad and birria tacos. Both were delicious. We didn't order desserts, but they did look delicious.

La Bomba Molcajete for 2. Comes out bubbling and delicious!

We really enjoyed our family meal here! I'll start with the showstopper - La Bomba Molcajete. Comes out in a bubbling clay pot and filled with shrimp, steak, chicken, chorizo, peppers and more in a great chipotle sauce. It's quite a sight - saw a lot of stares from other tables regretting their meal choices. Don't be one of those tables - just trust me and order this! Note that it is for 2, so be sure to bring a friend. Or 2, since it was more than my wife and I could eat. Kids food was solid as well. One of the kids ordered the beef nachos. We tried to talk him out of it to get something more substantial, but they proved us wrong. It was chocked full of cheese and meat. Almost all loaded pieces, and almost no chips left with one little nugget of meat. Another ordered an octopus Hot Dog, which was nothing special but she liked that it was cut into a cute shape :) Can't wait to return, but it's going to be hard to order something different!

My friend and I stopped in fresco Mexican yesterday for lunch. The place was so beautifully decorated, I was in awe! Unfortunately, my friend has a lot of dietary restrictions, but the waiter and the manager were both very accommodating and helped her to pick a meal that she was able to eat and enjoy! She got a salad with grilled chicken, and said it was great. I, on the other hand had no dietary restrictions in ordered occasion chicken quesadilla. It came with the traditional rice and beans. It was so delicious! I am still thinking about the spices on the chicken. we were given a typical of tortilla chips with some dipping sauces before our meal. The dipping sauces were all delicious. This was my first time in fresco Mexican in a decade, but I was so glad to see that they were still such a great place. Definitely recommend and hope to go back someday.

Fajitas-- the Tortilla AGAIN!!!
Tim M.

I'm giving it a Three star rating NOT DUE TO THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. But why pay $55.00 to get half your meal? It's the last two tiwe order something from them they ALWAYS FORGET SOMETHING. This time the tortillas for fajitas, How do you make fajitas without them? And I called said Oh, I'm sorry not ever offers to run them out to me 10 mins away. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE....... EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED..

Tacos... Decent, barely.

We were wandering around Chester a couple of weeks ago, and decided we needed lunch. It was a warm, sunny day, and we decided to sit outside. Food was decent, service was ok, and it was just what we needed.

Quaint Mexican restaurant nestled in the center of Chester. New Jersey has everything that you would like with fresh Mexican food. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. Service is quick and efficient. Food is hot and delicious just the way it should be. This restaurant has many items on the menu to choose from. From burritos to tacos. Fresh chips and guacamole. Along with farm fresh Pico de gallo. The servings are large and enough for 2 people.

The bartender guided us on the drink options and offered suggestions, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the spicy margarita, which was delicious. We then were seated up stairs (the decor and ambiance of this place is beautiful!). They provide complimentary chips and salsa (my fav). The owner came by to apologize for the wait, which really wasn't terrible, and offered us two free tacos on the house. They were delicious! One chicken and one beef. We ordered the toca vez salad and plantain and coconut shrimp sushi (UNREAL!). Both were delicious but the plantain starter was heavenly. I ordered the scallop risotto. Delicious! My husband ordered the salmon and it was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Cooked to perfection!! The waitress knew we were celebrating and provided up to complimentary champagnes and ice cream. One of the best dining experiences. Can't wait to come back to try more!

Shrimp tacos - tender seasoned shrimp served on fresh corn tortillas and a spicy sauce on the side were excellent. The steaks - one medium rare ribeye was surprisingly lean, but tender and flavorful and was beautifully cooked. The filet ordered medium came somewhere between rare and medium rare. But it was tender as expected (it is prime filet after all). Asparagus side was phenomenal. Shoestring fries came out crisp but oddly room temp. Sea bass dish was good, but the menu description failed to adequately describe the ingredients. The steaks were typical upscale steakhouse, but I guess I was hoping for a more Mexican-inspired flare when it came to the sauces or sides. Service was well-coordinated and available and friendly and efficient. The area that was lacking was the knowledge of the food. No one knew what was in the sauce that accompanied the shrimp tacos. It's okay not to know perhaps, but say I don't know and go find out. Also requested information about the dishes was lacking, particularly when it came to food allergies which one person in our party had.

As usual, dinner here was a solid, five-star experience. The associate behind the counter delivered top-notch service. They ensured our order was sent to the kitchen accurately, took the time to explain how to earn and redeem points through the Tacoria app, and even brought our food right out to our sidewalk table when it was ready. As for the food, it completely hit the spot. I had a pair of the Pork Al Pastor Tacos ($5.60 ea.) which were marinated in a perfect blend of spices and topped with finely diced pineapple. The two tacos were just the right portion size to satiate my hunger without feeling stuffed. My dining companion ordered the Burrito Box ($11), a great low-carb, tortilla-less dish that comes loaded with your choice of protein served over rice, black beans, cheese, salsa, and fresh pico de gallo, which she absolutely enjoyed. The outdoor seating and consistently great service remind me why this place is a local favorite. We will definitely be back! PRO TIP #1: Snag one of the sidewalk tables if you want to enjoy a beautiful summer evening and people-watch in downtown Morristown. PRO TIP #2: Sign up for the Tacoria app to earn points based on your spending that can be redeemed for free food and beverages. You will even score a free serving of tortilla chips and guacamole just for signing up!

I opted for the online order and it was ready just when it was promised. The entire order was packaged perfectly, and there were no issues when I opened it I ordered the steak quesadilla with onions and it was very good. It had a slight kick, but as someone who doesn't tolerate spiciness very well, it was just enough for me. I didn't know what to expect from the brussels sprouts but they were sweet and not spicy at all. A great side entree! Overall, a great visit to Tacoria.
