we ordered two two pound lobsters cooked and cracked as done many times over 35 years. we got them home and weighed them - see photos attached of digital scale. they were 1 pound one ounce each. the next day we went in to discuss this and brought photos of each lobster on he digital scale and andy was rude and sarcastic. he claimed they lost weight when cracked. really? half their weight? after some time he offered to refund half the price, but it was really his rudeness that prompts this review. he kept saying sarcastically over and over 'I hope you enjoyed your two pound lobsters' Even though they were half of that. We really never expected this kind of attitude on mv in this day and age. They screwed up, why not admit it, apologize and move on?

Family owned Island business usually has a great selection of fresh seafood year round. They even put up bay scallops in the freezer so you can buy them in the off season. I believe that their pricing is in sync with the other local fish stores and slightly less than a competitor up the street. (not the chain) We have been store customers for years - off-season yet the owner has never acknowledged us nor has he ever engaged us in conversation. The younger staff that works there are knowledgeable and friendly.

    Buttered lobster roll

I think this is the second time I've been here. Both times the service has been nice. This time we had a lobster roll, crab cake, and clam chowder. I chose the buttered lobster roll (vs the salad lobster roll). Who doesn't want a hot buttered bun with lobster? The roll looks pretty small when wrapped up but once you open it you'll see it's stuffed with lots of lobster. The lobster was a bit tough in some parts but I still liked it because it was simple - just a roll, butter, and lobster. No other unnecessary flavors covering up fresh lobster. The crab cake had more to be desired. And I literally mean one crab cake. We didn't realize it was sold individually. My friend also said there wasn't much crab in it, so that's disappointing. I didn't have any since, well, it was one little crab cake. So while I recommend the lobster roll even though it's pricier, I would not recommend the crab cake. The chowda was great. Not too thick and creamy and wasn't fishy, with regular amounts of clam in it. It's a good place for a quick bite in Edgartown. You can eat on the lark adjacent to the market.

SERVICE (4/5): There weren't many tables, but service was good. We weren't in a rush and taking our time, so it was the perfect pace for us. FOOD (5/5): EVERYTHING WAS A 10/10! $4 EACH PER OYSTER: we tried the signature, honeysuckle, and top shell. They were all delicious and served with a vinegar, kimchee slaw, and cocktail sauce. All of them were so refreshing and great as an appetizer! $23 TUNA CARPACCIO: fresh, lemon sauce & crunchy tobiko eggs. The presentation is immaculate! $22 BLUE CRAB SLIDER: the homemade chips it comes with is AMAZING! Love any homemade chips. Served on a sweet Hawaiian roll, it's beautifully plated and blue crab is better than lobster in my opinion! $15 HOUSE MADE CHOWDER: can't go wrong with chowder! $36 HERB BAKED COD: so perfectly seasoned and cooked so it's soft but flaky. Comes à la carte. DRINKS (5/5): $19 PUMPKIN ESPRESSO MARTINI: this was a seasonal drink and it was SOOO GOOD! $20 BACON OLD FASHIONED: this was EVEN BETTER than the pumpkin martini! Candied bacon, and a perfectly crafted cocktail.

On this episode of eating my way through Martha's Vineyard, we stopped at Square Rigger, one of the…read moreisland's well-known staples. All I wanted that day was some fried shrimp and clam strips -- and for me, the strips are key because they skip the extra parts you get with whole clams. Unfortunately, they were out of clam strips, so we went with fried shrimp, fries, and lobster bisque. Since I had to share with my wife, I asked for extra shrimp -- but heads up, it's $3 per shrimp. Not complaining, just letting you know. The lobster bisque came out hot and creamy, but I was hoping for a bit more depth of flavor and a little more lobster meat and a little less bisque. The shrimp were tasty and fried well, but personally, I prefer mine butterflied for that extra texture and presentation. What stood out most, though, was the service. Friendly, quick, and attentive, which matters a lot when you're trying a local favorite. Overall, Square Rigger delivers a solid experience, but I left wishing for just a little more -- especially when you're at a place with that kind of reputation. Verdict: Good shrimp, great service, but I'll be back hoping for those clam strips next time.

A member of the family had requested this location for her birthday dinner. The person who answered the phone "Idk. It's Friday night. I don't have time for this. It's busy." This should have been our first red flag. A separate conversation and call at another time, the GM asked over the phone if we'd like a cake or something special brought in. Very thoughtful. "Yeah we'd love that! Thank you!" When we arrived at our reservation time, the table had to be rearranged while the party waited. Our party was 8 people. When we inquired about the cake, no one present had any idea what we were talking about. They kindly offered to put a sampler dish together which we accepted but all other food and drink took so long, we cancelled it because we just wanted ultimately just wanted to leave. This is a steak house. A few people at the table ordered steaks with a medium center. Plates were brought out and we were advised the steaks had a medium. Every single steak was completely grey inside(well done). There was not a spot of pink inside. We didn't ask for a replacement steak, we just let them know so they would be aware for future steaks and someone else's future steak! We didn't bother asking for the replacement steak because it already took incredibly long for us to get our food and we were hungry. The waitress never apologized. She didn't look like she wanted to be there and was awkwardly hovering between the 2 tables they had filled. Two new steaks were brought out which we thought was nice but it was also suspiciously fast considering our previous long wait. We cut into the new steaks, almost completely raw. There was a man that poured water for us when we sat. He was the only one that looked like he enjoyed working there and showed any real customer service. The menu says 8oz sirloin and instead you get a 10oz New York strip. A larger piece sounds good but it's not what we asked for when we were ordering our food. If you're going to serve a different cut and size, why would you not change your menu? Or at least let customers know when ordering. Drinks were HEAVY. Can't complain about the quality of liquor. The drinks would be put on the table and take almost 10 minutes to get the next drink. The bartender was kind a remixed one of our drinks when we asked to sweeten it. Just wish drinks came out faster. The other food was great! We had pastas, salmon, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. They were very tasty. If the service, and steaks were better, this place would be recommended as it had beautiful flavor. The steak would have been perfect too if they knew how to cook it!
