Was shocked to see the owner browbeat a senior citizen customer calling him an a-hole and I do not like to repeat this but that the man could suck his you know what. This is no way to treat any human being especially a customer who had asked to speak to the owner (who resembled John Candy) about his portion size. The man had every right to do so. Speaking of portion size, my $35 Curry dish had two very small pieces of fish and mostly vegetables. Perhaps the fish swam thru it. There are much better choices on Homer spit and to see some get abused in this way I would take my business elsewhere. If you are a regular there perhaps this behavior doesn't surprise you. Fantastic! Great service and exceptional food. We had the halibut fish and chips and the halibut and slaw sandwich. The baguette on the sandwich was the best. We trusted our research and believed this place would have good fish and chips, in good portion too, so we ordered takeout of two fish and chips and a seafood pasta. They weren't ready at the time we were told; we ended up waiting an extra 15 mins. The fish and chips are not bad but there's nothing special about them, and the portion wasn't as big as I thought (expected more for $28 each for lunch). The seafood pasta is oily and not tasty. It feels like it's just butter + fish/shrimp. For $32 (or $37) I expect better. There are much better choices elsewhere, particularly off the Spit. We won't be back. read more

You want some deliciously FRESH from the Kachemak Bay in Homer, deep fried halibut for the fish n chips, this is it! The value is there for what you pay. This spot more than delivered on a recent visit to Homer. My partner and I shared the Caesar salad; crab fondue; and the Halibut fish and chips. Everything was excellent, but the fish and chips were the real star. The best we've ever had: fresh Halibut and crispy Panko breading. Highly recommend! read more

I can't say enough about this place - other than to definitely make reservations! We dined here THREE times on two trips to Homer this summer and never had a meal that was less than spectacular. Crab fondue... you must get this - creamy and flavorful without being too heavy. Plenty to share between 2-4 people. The seafood dip is also outstanding. I had the curry on one trip (flavorful and packed to the top of the bowl with fresh seafood), and the lamb burger the next time. Wow - the lamb burger was outstanding - cooked perfectly, moist and packed with flavor. My friend liked the halibut fish and chips so much she had it two nights in a row! Decent wine list, and plenty of good beer options, and the service was outstanding. It's a little pricey but this place is worth the splurge! read more

Why does this not come up as a top restaurant? Looking for local seafood that's not battered, fried and served in a basket with fries? This is the spot. I found this randomly since it was one of the only places open past 830pm but it was exactly what we were looking for. The hostess was extremely rude to my kids when we arrived there -they were in their last bites of the mini ice cream cones from flagship and she almost wouldn't seat us because we had "outside food". Then my husband ultimately decided to leave without actually ordering because she made a sideways comment to him about my daughter as he brought her out of the bathroom. Great fish tacos! Ask for extra sauce on the side. Also had the seafood pasta which was a bit on the too-cheesy side but was great tasting. I think the cheese absorbed some of their base sauce. I would still have the meal again... but would ask for the cheese on the side. read more

Wonderful restaurant! The food was impeccably fresh, the space lovely, the view great, the local wildflower table bouquets a treat, and the service fast and friendly. Couldn't have had a better experience. Fair warning: the servings are enormous. Our orders of halibut fish and chips came with four massive pieces of perfectly fried uber-fresh halibut. It was the best fried fish I've ever had, but after two pieces could not possibly have eaten more. The fresh cod in the nightly special was beyond good, as was the accompanying spaghetti sauced with seafood, but again the serving size was huge. Luckily everything tasted great the next day as leftovers. Reservations are mandatory as is proof of covid vaccination. Will definitely return for some of the other amazing sounding fresh seafood items on the menu. Or maybe just more halibut and chips - they were that good. read more

Visit on 8/13/11 My girlfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip to Homer as she is new to the state of Alaska. I have lived here my entire life, and generally try and avoid these small seaside communities in the summertime. After reading the raving reviews on here as well as other websites, we decided this would be a perfect dinner to top off a wonderful weekend together. The interior is cute, small, cozy and has an amazing view. At first I thought this was really going to be a great meal. The food: The fish is local, and so is the produce. I can tell the cook isn't very adventurous -- as I had that night's special (Cook Inlet silver salmon with tanner crab on top with black beans and greens). The fish was indeed fresh, but cooked very plainly. The crab on top was cold and shredded. The black beans had some kind of pulled pork in the mix which puzzled me. The "fresh local greens" consisted of cooked rhubarb. The flavors "worked". For $32 I think the portion size was small, and the flavors not bold enough. Take this nightly special from my favorite place in Anchorage, Kinley's as an example of what $32 salmon should be: ...."Grilled Troll Caught White King Salmon Served on a Watermelon and Strawberry Balsamic BBQ Sauce, with Roasted Red Potatoes, and a Sauté of Peppers, Spinach, Onions, and Yellow Squash".... Having said that about the food, let me move onto the reason I have this establishment rated at 1 star instead of 2 or possibly 3. The entire time we were trying to enjoy the beautiful view and sunset, a spoiled, obnoxious toddler was allowed to run free around the establishment. At one point the little girl reached and tugged on my girlfriends shirt. This little hell-spawn also made several attempts to play with her purse. The little girl was dragging her mother's purse all around the place, and allowed to wander into the kitchen area. She also was handed a comb and began coming one of the lady's hair less than 2 feet from my girlfriend. My girlfriend and I maintained our attitudes, and made very low-level and quiet remarks to just ourselves. Halfway through our meal (now ruined due to poor parenting) we learned that the people with the child were related to our waitress. Once this was discovered, we promptly decided to keep our traps shut and not complain. I do believe however that our waitress could tell from the looks on our faces that were were not impressed. I know what people from these small touristy towns think of us "outsiders", especially from the "big city of Anchorage" -- and a complaint may have resulted in us eating unwanted bodily fluids. In a interesting turn of events, after the family left -- our service went from average to horrible. We sat and sat to pay for our meal, and I was made fun of for not finishing my meal. I made it a point before I left to let them know I was FROM ALASKA (and not some dumb tourist). I am not sure if small places such as these realize that locals like myself can impact very heavily their off-season business. Word of mouth carries quite a bit of weight in Alaska. I don't care if the little brat was related to the owners, any respectable owner or staff member should find this kind of behavior unacceptable. The bland food, high prices and lack of professionalism has warranted me to give this place 1 stars. Take it from a life-long Alaskan, and amateur cook: if you're in Homer do yourself a favor and hit up Starvin' Marvin pizza. They deliver, and you can enjoy the meal in private. read more

The interior is actually much nicer than one may presume from the outside. The food was flavorful; chowder was creamy but not too heavy with big chunks of potato, the big salad with dried cherries made a sweet contrast to the blue cheese. As for entrees, we got the special: miso, ginger sockeye with brown rice, kale, and seaweed. The salmon was so tangy and tasteful and the texture was perfect. I loved that they had some healthful choices of veggies and brown rice. The crab risotto gave generous portions of king crab and had halibut on top. For dessert the carrot cake was flavorful with spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and all spice that a carrot cake from another place did not have. Only thing was the carrot cake was extremely dense and did not have the moist texture I was aiming at. The plain fish and chips sign on the outside is misleading, it is actually quite sophisticated! read more

Simply outstanding --- the best meal of our two week holiday in Alaska! And mind you we have eaten in the top places in Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, Seward and Homer. The seafood red curry was pitch perfect, especially for our Asian palates -- the freshness of the fish and vegetables was remarkable, blended seamlessly with the sauce and brown rice. We went here because another restaurant on the spit was booked and they recommended them to me and my Boyfriend, saying they had Vegan options. We were seated in the quiet, fancy dining room overlooking the bay, and after asking the waiter if they had Vegan options, he informed me they had plain salad, quinoa, fries, and brown rice. So...not the greatest options...I was hoping for an actual meal but since we already ordered beers, I just went ahead and got brown rice and a salad and my Boyfriend got a burger (he's not Vegan) My "Dinner" came out and it was literally a half a cup of rice, and a TINY plain salad that tasted weird and musty. So I just sighed and ate it. My boyfriend told me his burger was overcooked, dry, and too salty. We were both disappointed but didn't want to make a scene so we just ate our meals so we could get out of the awkwardly cramped, overly quiet dining room. We finished and got our check and it was $50! my tiny two plates of food were $8 EACH. $8 for a dollar's worth of food. I was shocked. I would have gladly paid $16 for A REAL MEAL but for a measly cups worth of food? Totally absurd. Before we left we also noticed that all the other tables were brought bread and we didn't receive a bread basket at all (which would have at least been something I could have eaten to fill up on) Overall, it was just an awful experience. I think it's sad that restaurants like this charge people an arm and a leg just because they're located on the spit, and then serve low quality, exorbitantly priced food. I left feeling robbed and hungry. Also I just want to say that not having options for Vegetarians and Vegans in this day and age is not only a middle finger to our planet, but it's a bad move business-wise. You are keeping a huge and constantly growing demographic of people from being able to dine at your restaurant. Think about it. This restaurant had a very country club feel with an Alaskan twist. The view of the bay was classic Alaskan as the sun set on the water and the clouds rolled in on the mountains. There isn't much window space so come early! The menu had upscale New England traditional options. We started with the clams in a white wine, garlic and lemon sauce which was amazing! The clams were larger than most on the island and were very fresh. They also provided warm house dinner bread which helped with the wonderful sea taste. Our main dishes included king crab risotto and fish and chips both which were fresh and melted in your mouth. They had a good selection of local beer as well as Alaska beer found all over the state. It was a good stop for the evening but I don't think I would go there again due to their high prices and their "add on price" for splitting a plate. read more

Me and my family of 6(only four of us) ordered a special they had. Fettuccine and Wagyu steak. We also order many appetizers, we got two dozen oysters. They didn't have enough so we got what they had cooked. They were chewy and over cooked. By the time our food came out we just moved on from the oysters to our meal, it didn't seem like a big deal till our Wagyu steaks were burnt and over cooked. When we told them about the over cooked steak, they said they had no more and offered us a slice of carrot cake in exchange. Of course we're upset. The plate costs $40 and it was mainly for Wagyu. They removed $16 from the meal price. Off 4 plates of this same dishes that all had burnt meat! When my mom said she was just disappointed. The manager got mad and asked us all to leave. The customer is always right. And only removing $16 and offering a group of 6 one slice of cake was not making up for the lack of service and over cooked food. As we were leaving, one of the employees followed us outside harassing us and taking pictures and photos of us threatening us with he called the troopers. I'm 19 years old and he was yelling and cussing at us. Then started taking videos and photos! Yelling out at us he was an ex marine. My step father is an ex marine. What does that have to do with burnt Waygu? The photo I placed is of the man who harassed us as we were leaving. We did not want to stay. We all were outside. The manger had kept my mom inside and told her he was bending over backwards for us. We told him we were unsatisfied, yet he continued to bother us saying it was an accident. Not evening offering to replace the meal with a better one! I would expect greater service from a place that has high prices. Will never be eating there again! read more

Here's what happened: My daughter worked during summers along the spit at another one of the sister businesses that caters to fast food. As a tribute to her graduation, they opened this restaurant for the evening to host a private graduation dinner for our families. They showcased their new menu: ALL of which was created, by master Chef Harrison McHenry during the winter months and spring months -when the restaurant is closed. He has a very sensitive palette and able to combine texture with accents of very specific and intended flavors -which we were able to sample. Our server, Jessica provided exceptional service and was extremely knowledgable of the menu, beer/wine list. Her warmth, professionalism, attention-to-detail, awareness and experience provided positive and distinct accent a warm and wonderful experience. Here's what was on the menu for Wednesday May 18, 2016: Appetizer: -Alaskan crab fondue -Halibut Cove oyster -Hot seafood and goat cheese spread First Course: -Caesar Salad -Fresh Garden Salad Main Course: -Duck and spot shrimp pho -Salmon, rockfish, and halibut red curry -Scallop, spot shrimp, halibut, and salmon-ginger childe cream sauce. Based on the menu on the website we had high expectations However, one of our party ordered steak frites, the steak was grilled to the point it was hard to cut and neatly impossible to chew. My wife ordered crab cakes. There was so much black pepper that the first cake was inedible. The other was ok. Two of us ordered a blackened halibut but asked that the cook go very light on the seasoning. It was ok. When I commented to the manager (person seating guests) about the pepper on the the crab cake he said "the the top must have fallen off the shaker when the chef was putting pepper on the crab cake." My wife and I went there last night and I ordered the oysters for an appetizer, my wife isn't really brave when it comes to food. They were really good, they also have mussels that the table next to us was raving about. We both had the special, Grilled sockeye salmon topped with crab over greens and black eyed peas. It was the BEST salmon I've ever had. the waitress recommended a Riesling for my wife and I had an IPA and a Scottish ale. They have a very well covered beverage menu. With steak and seafood covering the menu, it was very difficult to decide what to order because it all sounded so good. The view is amazing, the restaurant is small but not cramped. Great restaurant. Perfect amount of dressing and Parmesan cheese. The wine list included a ice selection to pair with food. We shared a generous piece of moist and nicely spiced carrot cake with pecans.
