Hands down, the Chef preparations were top notch. Even if food is great, quality friendly service also matters. The hostess doesn't know about smiling nor patience with others and the male bartender seemed overworked. FYI, the pics on Yelp of bar area is not the current bar layout. It appears to have been updated so they can fit two 4 topper tables in front of bar. We showed up without reservations at around 6:30p and were told we can get a table at 8 or sit at the bar. We sat dead center at the bar where a flower arrangement stemming from a large vintage looking ceramic decanter took half the bar surface depth. We ordered drinks. As we sat there, it was quite uncomfortable for these reasons; The flowers were in our face and the bartender became bothered when we asked if he could relocate the flowers; The hostess continued to tell parties of two walk-ins about the 8p slot, yet she sat parties of 4 or more for people w/o reservations were seated at tables within 15 min. The table in the bar area right behind us 2.5 feet away remained empty during our time sitting on the tiny barstools beneath a 'bar top' at no more than 16" deep, maybe, at best, 7' long. The size of the tiny barstools are of course to maximize 6 seats at the bar. The bar seating arrangement may have been comfortable for stick figures who do not mind limited use of their arms during a dining or drinking experience. For reference, I am 5'2" at 130 lbs. My husband is 6' at 210 lbs. We asked for a table again despite the 8p time slot and alas we were finally seated at the empty table behind us that could seat 4 comfortably even though we were only two ppl. The male bartender eventually takes our order, orders are received without utensils or napkins and we waited until our King crab appetizer was done since it came with a seafood fork. We ask for utensils again. Needless to say, the bartender was embarrassed when he brought us our delicious seafood curry bowls and his eyes reminded him of our need for utensils. The KING CRAB LEG Appetizer was outstanding at $150 per pound. We discovered two days later when we picked up fish my husband caught from Homer Fish Processing and shipping, they too sell King Crab Legs, cooked at $52 per pound . We bought some and these were as delicious with the same exact taste offered by this Restuarant. I was too curious on the price Fresh Catch charges on King crab legs so I called two other restaurants and they charged $72. per pound. HOMER IS GREAT. Don't limit yourselves to this Restuarant. We ate at other great places in Homer during our 5 night stay who offered great food with smiling service. Sorry Chef/ Owner, your bar area poses a fire hazard and the female hostess who worked on 8/16/2022 is either overworked or simply disgruntled with life. Namaste. read more

I had lunch here after shopping next door. The service was fantastic. I ordered a Kenai IPA beer, which was very good, with a hint of citrus. I also ordered the Steak & Cheese sandwich. It was huge! Poor service, expired food, unappealing, and overpriced. It's so busy in Homer, Alaska in the summertime the restaurants are all full and you are lucky to get a table during prime times. We thought we were fortunate to find this place with a short wait. Well beware, the locals steer clear. While we were waiting, a bar seat opened up so I stepped up to the bar to get a drink. I first asked the lady sitting next to me if it was okay, she was happy for me to sit next to her. The hostess then scolded me and told me I couldn't sit there. I said I was just getting a drink and the lady also jumped in again with me and said she was happy for me to sit there. Well, nothing would convince the hostess. So I apologized and stood up and tried to order my drink two times asking the bartenders. They wouldn't serve me. The most surprising event I've ever had at a restaurant. Every restaurant I've ever been in encourages you to go to the bar while you wait. If you have a rule that is different from every restaurant, maybe you should post it? So I left the bar and the open seat at a packed restaurant. Obviously, at this point, I was ready to leave. However, my wife didn't want to try to find another restaurant so we waited and finally were seated (without a beverage). I ordered a dinner salad and they had two sizes and got the large one. Lucky I did, because the large was about the size of a normal side salad. I wondered what the small size could have looked like? It came in a funky-shaped dish which I assume was to make up for the size. Other than the funky dish, there was nothing interesting about the salad consisting of lettuce and that's about it. To add to the fun, the lettuce was wilted and halfway through I tasted mold. Maybe this was just payback for wanting to order a drink earlier, I mused? I know it's busy this time of year, but steer clear of this place. After getting her meal, my wife finally agreed we should have gone somewhere else too. Don't worry for me, luckily fast food restaurants are still open and I was able to pick something up more appealing (and I never eat fast food) on the way home and the hostess there was so very friendly. read more

This was our one dinner splurge during our week-long roadtrip. It's a nice setting with a beautiful view and gorgeous artwork adorning the walls (they're all for sale for a hefty price). The four of us shared the King Crab Fondue to start off with. Out of all the appetizers I've ever had, I can honestly say this was the best tasting. It was decadent and creamy and the cheese/crab flavor went together, for lack of a better word, perfectly. We each had a salad and then went on to share the ultimate platter available at Fresh Catch Cafe: The Midnight Sun Plate. Now, this normally would NOT be enough food for 4, maybe not even 3, but with the appetizer and the salads, it left us pretty satisfied. All of the seafood in this dish was great. The halibut (which I usually don't care for too much) was mouthwatering. The only thing that was not good was the rice, which lacked flavor. We called 30 mins before closing time (as we came off a helicopter tour) and they got us a table for 4, and then our waitress Amy made a point of telling us there was no hurry. Amy went on to make great recommendations - the peel and eat shrimp starter was amazing! So fresh! Each of the 4 of got fish which was all super fresh, and then the preparations were each full of flavor and delicious sauce/side combinations, like the halibut with Asian-inspired preparation. Stopped by here for lunch during our stop here in Homer, Alaska. There were an abundance of restaurants in the area serving up fresh seafood, but no where that did much other than deep fried fish and chips or pan seared halibut. Everything seemed to be prepared in the fryer, and we weren't up for anything boring like that since they have it everywhere! And why waste fresh seafood by throwing it in the fryer? Anyway, we saw that Fresh Catch Cafe had steamed clams on their menu so we decided to drop by and give it a try. Let's just say they were fresh, flavourful and one of my favourite dishes I've had in Alaska- the other being steamed Alaskan king crab I had in Juneau. The white wine garlic broth was so flavourful I had to sneak one or two sips of it with the clams (okay, let's be real... I ended up finishing the broth). We also ordered the salmon and halibut fettuccini and razor clam chowder. They were good but it was nothing compared to the simple and flavourful steamed clams. I found the chowder to have more bacon than razor clams, but it was delicious regardless. The fettuccini was also great- fish was flaky and the sauce wasn't too heavy or overpowering. I think they had a hint of fresh ginger in the sauce or some kind of herb, to balance out the heaviness you usually get from the white sauce and fish. Oh and to complement the great meal, they have the greatest view of the waters! We saw a couple otters swimming here and there. I also loved the interior and captured a few shots around the restaurant. Highly recommend over other places in town! read more

Some family and I were in Homer on a random trip over the 4th of July weekend. I believe it's been around 20 years since I've been to homer and I remember lots of people and lots of fun shops and restaurants, so we decided to drive down for lunch. It was dead, the weather was glum. Most of the businesses seemed lifeless, or even closed. Even after I yelp stalked everything in the entire town I still feel like this was a last resort choice... We walked in and it had a totally different vibe than the outside spit. Although it is a tiny place with wood floors and you can hear every sound from every table, it was warmly buzzing. My kid "sis" figure decided on the burger and I followed her lead thinking it was best to not get my hopes up too much. After all, it's pretty hard to screw up a burger... I also ordered a glass of chard and I said "Can I have a white wine from California" my server didn't question my choice, but after ordering I did see that they had a chard and a rhubarb wine from AK (we raise grapes here?). I admit I missed out not trying those wines. Darn! Next time! Complementary bread came and we devoured it; it was amazing. Each plate after plate came out of their little kitchen and each looked better than the next. I was starting to question my decision on being so basic with my choice. The plates were beautiful. When the burger arrived we dove in and I was left with less regrets. The meat was perfectly cooked to order, great steak fries and once again the bread was great. We both complemented the bread and burger to our server and she informed us that they actually made their breads in-house and the meat was locally raised beef. That got my attention, but I hardly believed the beef part. Where on earth are these so called Alaskan cows? i have a vegan at home that agreed she would eat local meats, so I thought I did a lot of researching looking for such a product. After I looked into this Cafe's history, I was delightfully surprised to find out that the owner actually is a seasonal butcher's assistant as well, so I was delightfully mistaken with all my assumptions when it came to their products. I was equally impressed with the atmosphere and service. Our server was very responsive and paid close attention to us. She even thought for a moment I wanted to order more after she witnessed me drooling over all the other plates that came out. The kitchens turn around time was perfect and I am impressed too see what they could pump out to a full house considering the size of the kitchen. Everything was nice and clean and the VIEW was unbeatable. Ocean front and I could even see the rest of my family out on the beach playing with our dogs. Another thing that has really suck in my mind was the bathroom. I am in LOVE with their little dipper sky lights! Cutest detail ever! I think my only complaint was the fact that our ocean view was blocked by some guy smoking a cig on that side of the building. Awkward and not really what anyone wants to see while eating, but who knows, there very well may be a no smoking sign where he was. Alaskans don't take too well to anyone telling them what to do. Anyhow I strongly recommend anyone visiting the area to check this place out and I plan on revisiting as well. Don't be like me though, be adventurous! The location out on the Homer Spit is beautiful. The restaurant is attractive. The food, however, was only so-so. I ordered Red Seafood Curry with veggies and brown rice, expecting something healthy. Instead they brought an iron pot with perhaps a pint of coconut milk in it (maybe, what?, 20 gms of sat fat?), together with curry, seafood, and veggies and a little bit of rice. The taste was OK, not great. The waiter was sort of puzzled/put out that I asked for a plate, the better to try to avoid eating all the coconut milk. My dinner partner had a cheeseburger (she'd had seafood every day and wanted a change). It was pretty mediocre. Looking at the menu I wondered what I should have ordered instead. I didn't see a single simply grilled healthy item, in this place of seafood plenty. After having spectacular (and healthy) meals at Cafe Cup and at Mermaid Cafe in town, this place was a disappointment to us. read more

I ordered a special entree for dinner. It's the scallop with mashed potatoes. It turns out to be too SPICY, and the scallop DOESN'T taste FRESH!! I don't know how this place isn't covered up in people. Maybe because their sign isn't as fancy as Captain Pattie's down the way?? Who cares? I'm thrilled more aren't crowding it, so I can get in! The fish and chips was THE BEST I've had in Homer. I'm talking FRESH. It wasn't fishy tasting, and the outside was crispy and wonderful. The tartar sauce was AWESOME. None of the nasty bottled stuff there! The linguini was FILLED with fresh seafood, and don't let the description of ginger scare you away from it. It was overly gingery. HUGE portions should also be noted here! Carrot cake was recommended by many and it was just ok. They serve it with a lemon cream frosting. I'm a traditionalist, so I prefer regular cream cheese frosting. The view of the ocean is stellar, and the dining room is cozy. The wait staff really know the food there, so trust them on recommendations. I was SUPER impressed with this place. It was recommended by the fishing charter guy and he wasn't wrong! read more

When going to the city of Homer, it is hard to avoid checking out the spit. It is the busiest part of the city and filled with fishing boats, tourist shops and restaurants. It can get a little overwhelming navigating it all. If price is not too much of an issue and you want a very nice meal, this small place right on the water is a fantastic concept. Everything is fresh and wonderfully prepared. I had read about the fish and chips. That doesn't seem light a high brow menu item but it is different here. The best "fried" fish in my life. The fresh halibut combined with the breading is perfect and the portion is really enough for two. Although we had just a few menu items, the looks from the other tables displayed pure quality and excellent preparation and presentation. Be prepared that this is not a secret and there will be a long wait during peak times. Maybe plan on lunch or first part of dinner time. Plus the wait staff is well trained and spot on with service. read more

My friend and I had our own fish and Fresh Catch was one of the places that is willing to prepare your fish for you. We had three meals worth and had already taken the first batch to Captain Pattie's. The menu was varied and the staff was helpful in deciding what to do with said fish. The first night we brought in halibut and the chef prepared two amazing meals, salmon over a bed of king crab risotto and salmon over a bed of quinoa with a tahini sauce. We had the rhubarb crisp for dessert and it was amazing. For our 3rd and last night it was an easy decision to bring our last bag of halibut back to Fresh Catch. At this point I was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by eating rich restaurant food every night for vacation and asked for something light. The chef grilled the halibut and put it over greens that were done perfectly. My friend got the red curry which was also amazing. read more

We really enjoyed the view here and the service was great! The best part was they didn't have any veggie items on the menu but offered me up a handful of options and said I could even dream up my own dish and they'd make it for me! That means they have a real chef on staff which I love. My meal came out and I had lots of fresh veggies that were cooked perfectly! It could have used more flavor but overall it was good. The deviled eggs were to die for! Amazing!!! Smoked salmon, halibut with basil, and crab deviled eggs. The halibut with basil were my favorite while the smoked salmon deviled eggs were my husbands favorite. The parmesan crusted rockfish and the tahini halibut were also both delicious and cooked perfectly! The kids loved their fish and chips and macaroni and cheese as well. A great epicurean experience. The seafood curry was mouthwateringly succulent that has been resting or dead for who knows how long? My tummy is pleasantly satisfied and I have no desire for anything, basking in the afterglow of that meal. Three of us had the same dish, and the other five had other meals. I had such high expectations, as Homer is "halibut capital". The waitresses were nice and with good service, and view amazing! We split the crab fondue and mussels. The fondue was good. It had an adequate amount of crab to cheese ratio. And you get get extra bread if needed without extra charge. The mussels were nice as well, and sauce good for dipping as well! Main disappointed was with halibut fish and chips. Too much Panko breading and small fillets of fish. I couldn't taste the fish, as the breading was overpowering. And the cost of the food here is overpriced! $28 for halibut fish and chips? It's caught off dock here, and is 4 thin fillets with thick breading. Talkeetna had better halibut fish and chips that were only $16! Steak fries were nothing great. Very disappointed, but the hostess and waitresses were nice! read more
