The Margarett Red Zin was decent--slightly peppery and fruity without being too sweet. The crab cake had good flavor, although it wasn't as chunky as I prefer, and the bottled-tasting remoulade didn't help. The Caprese salad seemed to have been introduced to balsamic and olive oil of rather questionable quality. The linguine with chopped clams, garlic, olive oil, parsley and Parmesan arrived less than warm, and the flavors never quite got acquainted. The grilled Mahi Mahi, however, was the bright spot. Well prepared, with mango, tomato, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro and cucumber salsa, finished with sweet Thai chili sauce. Good combination of flavors. We had specifically asked that the courses be served separately. We were assured they would be. They weren't. The appetizers and salads arrived together. Apparently, "separately" has become one of those words open to interpretation. Service otherwise was acceptable. But the restaurant was only about half full. That may not be a scientific measure of a restaurant's decline, but when the food and service seem to have deteriorated too, you begin to wonder. It just wasn't the same Lobster Pot I remembered. And unfortunately, I don't mean that in a good way

A nice feature is it's 25% during happy hour on wines and select small plates. We moved to a table to upstairs table. It was an odd time, Wednesday at 5-6, but we enjoyed the entire upstairs space to ourselves our entire visit, which seems sad, as it's a great space. The menu featuring handmade pasta, steak, seafood, and Mediterranean-inspired Italian dishes and we selected 1. Pasta Bolognese 2. Potato crusted grouper with truffled creamed corn. We loved the presentation of the food. My friend loved his Pasta Bolognese and enjoyed ot with the red wine. My meal was with mixed review. The Grouper itself was superbly and lightly breaded, and was soft and DELICIOUS..... however, I thought the Aoili sauce drizzle was too spicey. I recommend use it as a side dip vs. put it on in case people don't like it. Fortunately I was able to scrape off most of it, and once I got it off, the fish was delicious. My side was the creamed corn -- they raved about it. It was "nice", flavorful but I liked the fish best. We then ordered dessert. It was Baklava. They said they make it onsite with people from Greece. I have had a lot of Baklava and I've never had it this way. It featured a 2" thick, dense square. I've never seen it this thick - it's usually light and flowery-breaking as you eat it. Can't dislike honey and nuts and pastry, but I'd say my preference is thin and flaky type Baklava. The restaurant is beautiful and the room we were in cozy and inviting. I would like to return to try more things, so my issues with a couple small things did not overpower my like of the place -- the issues were 'details' and preferences. Good job. Nice to meet you Frank Wagner and will return.

We sat upstairs both times and had to ask to have the lights dimmed for some ambience. It's also very, very loud. We had larger parties both times and could not hear each other speaking and our server had trouble hearing as well. I think maybe some curtains or something that absorbs the loudness in there. Maybe next time we'll ask to eat outside. Again, the food was really good, but we like the whole package, ambiance included.

We like to sit in the bar unless we're going to go for a super duper fancy dinner. The bar is very upscale and the servers attention to detail to the uniforms also is unmatched. While we normally go there for fancy dinner tonight we just wanted a cheeseburger which is on the bar menu which they don't really tell you about. They do bring a selection of fresh baked bread and flatbread with the most beautiful salted butter you've ever had. Both my wife and myself went for the burger and it came out cooked just as we had ordered. It comes with some truffle fries and just the right amount. My son ordered the 14 oz strip steak cooked medium and I swear whoever they have back there cooking the meat knows exactly what they're doing. My son also got some veg and an order of truffle fries and then proceeded to finish the other half of my wife's Burger as well true to form. We started with the Italian wedding soup, which was warm, comforting, and delicious. For dinner, our table tried the Bolognese, chicken Madeira, tortellini, and spaghetti. Everything was flavorful and satisfying, and the spaghetti looked like exactly what you hope for at a neighborhood Italian restaurant--a giant plate of pasta covered in red sauce with an enormous meatball in the middle. And when I say the portions are huge, I mean HUGE. There was no chance of ordering dessert because I could only finish about half of my entrée. The good news is that the other half became an entire lunch the next day, so basically this is dinner and meal prep in one. The service was friendly and attentive, and the whole place had such a warm, comfortable atmosphere. Delicious food, generous portions, and genuinely good service. Things were good (until they weren't ). Grilled octopus was AMAZING, should have ordered an extra one for dinner! Now, ordered the bronzino à la plancha and the bouillabaisse de marseille. Looked awesome. The bronzino was soo salty my mother couldn't take it so it was sent back. The bouillabaisse was very salty from a few bites, but I didn't want to have to send two dishes back, so I let mine sit. Whomever the chef was that night was either just tossing salt everywhere, don't give a damn, or just doesn't know how to season food and that's not acceptable for any restaurant people are spending their money. Management that night, was very gracious, professional, and apologetic. They brought another bronzino dish and I just took mine home hoping the flavor would settle and I could Dr. it up (shouldn't have to do this from a restaurant of this caliber and should have requested a new dish ). Well, the dish could not be saved by any means so I called management the next day. Whomever the manager was on duty (a male) was rude and gross! I explained that I had barely touched it and would bring it back and would appreciate a refund b/c why would I want the same dish you have proven you have not mastered or even made palpable. I was told "he was not going to give me a refund" and they would (reluctantly) make another one. So, I drive ALL THE WAY back over to the restaurant from Shaker Hts. the next day with the salt dish. They made another one and when I got home it TASTED EXACTLY THE SAME, maybe worst. I was so disgusted with the food, wasting gas and time, and the manager's attitude, as if I did something. And what French restaurant doesn't have rabbit and foie gras on the menu!?! I came all the way from out of town to treat my parents and that's the food and behavior received!?! Won't be back!

Being nearby on a day off at lunch time I figured I would give Columbo Room a try. Parked in the small lot in the back and entered through the back door, the place is smaller then I thought, just wide enough for a bar on one side and tables on the other side. Columbo Room is your classic old school dive bar; dark with the bar taking up most of the North side of the room, with a small kitchen area next to it. The main feature is the large mirror behind the bar. The bartender was friendly welcoming me and bantering with the regulars. The menu is two sided pretty much your standard soul food influenced with an extra page of specials that include wings and various philly sandwiches. On the advise of the bartender I ordered the catfish fillet dinner. The dinner was 2 large catfish fillets fried with a nice breading, served with a large portion of fries, a small cup of slaw and a couple of pieces of bread. The catfish was excellent, moist and slightly sweet with a great flavor and the breading was perfectly seasoned. The fries were nicely fried and then seasoned on the grill so that they were tasty as can be. The bread and slaw were ok, enough to use to make a sandwich with one of the fillets. Overall a good sized meal for 12.99, prepared fresh. Both the catfish and the fries were extra tasty since Columbo Room is not afraid to season its food. I will be back to eat at Columbo Room again, I want to try the Shrimp Philly Sandwich and will certainly get the catfish again. Nothing fancy, but a great place to get some good solid, well prepared and seasoned food. If you are in the area give it a try.
