Update: I still really enjoy the quality of the donuts here. However, there's an issue with the service. I buy donuts for work. When served by a specific employee at Fresh Donuts, she is super stingy with the boxes. This morning, I came in and said I would need two dozen donuts, plus some additional donuts. She packed one dozen in one small pink box. She packed the second dozen in one small pink box. Then I asked for an apple fritter, twist, and cinnamon roll. She got out a bag. I asked if she could put them in a box. "For three donuts?", she asked. "Yes, people like to cut off pieces, a bag doesn't work for me". More hesitation. I pointed out that I had said I was getting a two dozen donuts plus some extras. More hesitation. I told her she could charge me extra for the box. After I told her a second time that I would pay for the box, she relented and put the donuts in the box. She charged me $0.45 for the box. Several months ago, I again insisted on getting a box. That time she charged me $0.25 extra, without talking to me about it - I noticed it on my receipt later. I didn't return for awhile, because that experience was pretty frustrating too. I don't know why those big boxes are so precious. I tried my best to be clear about my order (2 dozen + more). I don't know why it took so long to give me a box when I offered to pay for it. I'm getting reimbursed, it's not about the money. It is just such a frustrating experience to place a bigger order and have to haggle about getting a box. I frequently go to other donut shops as well, and I never have this type of box drama. It makes me want to go elsewhere so I don't have to fight for a box. read more

I think the owners here are from Burma--I think the picture they used to have on the wall is a scene from there;family-owned place.The apple fritters are nice and big here,crispy at the edge with a touch of brown.You get a couple doughnut holes with each order,and when I've come here near closing they have given me an extra doughnut or two as well!The French crullers are really good here.The ice cream cones are very cheap here.Since they just put in a new tub of mango,I got a scoop of that and coconut--very soft,hadn't had time to get hard yet.One criticism is that the scoops used to be a little bigger when the lady was cashiering here,and she would fill up the cone,too. read more

6th time here since I've started working down the street. Really good donuts and hot chocolate & today I finally tried their bacon and egg croissant and man I was surprised how big it was I imagined it would be much smaller lol. Half of it already has me full thank you to the young guy that I always see their. Very nice and fast. I sure recommend this place it reminds me of my dads old donut spot we visited as a kid and the owner is really nice too. He's usually who helps me in the AM. A wonderful morning treat for me on the weekend is when my husband surprises me with some baked goodies from Fresh Donuts! :) Although we always call it Fresho because there is a little donut in between Fresh and Donuts on their sign and it looks like the letter O! I love the apple fritters because there is just enough crispiness to the edge to be absolutely yummy. So far I haven't encountered any other apple fritters as good as these. They must have some special secret or something! The maple frosted old fashioned are also a fave. They even have one that is like a blueberry cake donut with a light glaze - it's a good one when you want a change from the typical donuts. They also make bagel sandwiches (ham, egg and cheese is a good one) that are nice and big and really tasty. If you are thinking of getting some goodies here, I would suggest going as early as you can because the best stuff will be gone if you wait too long. :) read more

Small family owned donut shop that serves the community. Local regulars hang out in the front, and the atmosphere is family friendly--the shop has a nostalgic feel to it that's rare in this day and age. I ordered a Number 5, Bacon egg and cheese croissant sandwich which was delicious and freshly made to order. The croissant was crispy and soft on the inside. The cheese was melted over eggs that were cooked to perfection with crispy bacon on top. Highly recommended. read more

I've been here a few times. The good: the donuts are above average, which is saying a lot in a sea of sub par donut places in San Jose. However, recently they've really dropped off in how they stock their donuts. The last time I went they were out of jelly donuts. Not a huge deal but it was still early in the morning. The next time I went, they were out of every donut except donut holes. At 9am. That's unacceptable. It might be good for their sales that day, but no donuts equals no more reoccurring customers (me). Someone needs to reevaluate how many donuts they make a day. Looks like I have to keep looking for a donut shop. EDIT: Apparently the Friday I went was national donut day. So I bumped it up a star. I will give them one more chance. They still should of had more donuts on hand for that day or closed the doors. read more

Let me preface this review by saying that, like Homer Simpson, I too am a donut fanatic. Ever since I was in high school, the dessert at my birthday party has been donuts, not a cake. My mom used to buy a few dozen donuts, arrange three on a plate with candles for me to blow out, and then watch with no small amount of dismay as I blew out my candles, ate the three donuts, and then shoved party guests aside to eat through a dozen more. Seriously. I LOVE donuts. The donuts here do not disappoint. The cake donuts are thick and chewy, the raised donuts are light and airy, the apple fritters...are perfect! After eating at wienerschnizel we stopped by to fresh donuts to try some donut holes because we love donut holes bt none was available. After trying out other donuts the glaze and sugar omg now I know why, these are the best and most soft and moist donuts I have ever tried. My kids enjoyed every piece of it. Found this little shop just down the street this morning when I was craving donuts...and it didn't disappoint at all! Friendly service and a great selection at very reasonable- even inexpensive- prices. Baker's dozen donuts for $8.40...as I ate one at home I remarked this might be the best 70 cents I have ever spent. So far I've enjoyed a blueberry cake and a glazed fritter....blueberry tasted like it was fresh out of the oven with a fruity blueberry taste that made me feel like I was wandering the field picking fruit myself and the fritter had the perfect balance of crisp and tasty mmm! Can't wait for my coconut cake and the boston cream tomorrow (though I'm not sure they will last...there is a lot of day left still. Definitely will be back. read more

Sometimes you just want a simple donut and some unpretentious coffee. This is the place in my neighborhood. The donuts are fresh with a reasonable selection of the standards. The doughnut shop owner is unfriendly and impolite to my students which go to her shop almost weekly. We constantly have to request a receipt (we keep them and send home to parents) after every transaction. More than once we have asked for a receipt just after walking away and she refuses to print saying that it will make her records off. All customers should be given receipts and should not have to ask every single time. The food is good. read more

There are numerous types of donuts to choose from. Whether you're in the mood for an old fashion, chocolate, spinkles, or glazed donut, there is something for every one. We used to bring our kids here when they were little as a treat. Now that they are teens they ride their bikes here all the time. Has been a very popular place after sleepovers in my house. My kids love to pick up some donuts on the way to the cabana club swim practice down the street. The people are always friendly and the donuts are good. Take it from someone who works in the Branham Plaza and frequents Fresh Donuts that this place is GOOD. I would have no problem at all eating these donuts every day and working next door I struggle with that dilemma on a daily basis. Hands down the best donuts I have ever had, especially the round curvy ones that are called French something (I can never remember plus the lady has an accent so I'm not entirely sure of what they are called to begin with but I digress.....) I never knew this place existed until last year. I'm so glad we found it. The donuts are fresh, the staff is always friendly and courteous no matter the time of day. I placed a special order for sprinkled donut holes as well as regular donut holes for my son's brithday snack at Holy Family School, just down the street. They don't offer discounts, but she included a lot of extra donut holes! The owner is very nice and adds a little extra with the order when she knows it's for kids. :-) I highly recommend this place for donuts. It's clean, the donuts are super fresh, you can place special orders (birthday or other celebration), and it's close by. The prices are competitive and worth it. (My husbands likes the maple bars, I like the old fashioned and choclate covered ones, and our kids LOVE the donut holes and the sprinkled donuts.) read more

I love having this donut shop in my neighborhood. The donuts are great. The coffee is strong and fresh. Their bagel/croissant breakfast sandwiches are fantastic. Prices are reasonable. Parking is easy. We haven't tried their ice cream, boba, lunch sandwiches, or other offerings. The folks behind the counter (Mom/Dad/Son?) are almost always friendly, helpful, and patient. Often we're surprised by extra donut holes or even a bonus donut. Very rarely they might have an off day or a really big crush of customers. I don't mind. They're human. I like buying donuts from humans. If I wanted a standard, anonymous, corporate transaction, I'd go to Krispy Kreme, Safeway's bakery, or Starbucks for a scone. Tips from my experience: * For the best donut selection, get there before 9am. This is pretty standard for small donut shops. They usually have good donuts all day, but if you have your heart set on something specific like their apple fritters, you need to reset your expectations if it's after 9am. * Their egg/bacon/cheese on the jalapeño bagel is amazing. The individual ingredients are simple, but together they blow me away. My family fights over it. They should change the name to Flavorless Donuts. I wanted to like this place especially since it's close to home but I won't be back. The chocolate glazed is awful and doesn't even taste like chocolate. I took one bite and immediately my heart sank. I realized then that I made the mistake of buying 2 if those. The first one is inedible what am I suppose to do with 2? Well those went straight to the garbage. And then I thought well maybe the cinnamon twist I bought will be good. Nope. It doesn't even taste like cinnamon! Although it's possible that the gruff cashier just gave me a regular twist by mistake. Regardless I'm highly disappointed and thus the cinnamon twist went straight into the garbage. I'm done with this place. I wish I could have my $0.30 tip back. Don't believe the hype!
