Came here with a friend per his recommendation. A solid donut shop, lots of varieties and decent coffee. We had a couple of the croissant egg sandwiches, which were delicious and the eggs were done to perfection, not hard, but not overly loose. Also, we split an apple fritter which was huge and so tasty. Half is certainly plenty for one person. Service was very friendly and the shop is clean with a decent amount of seating. Donuts are sooo yummy. I'm a simple glazed donut type of girl but I've gotten a box of a dozen variety from here before and my coworkers loved it. It wasn't too doughy and stayed fluffy throughout most of the day! I actually always have a very pleasant experience here as everyone is so nice. They're sweet just like their donuts! I found this place on Yelp. There were mixed reviews about service but the donuts looked good and it's close to me. I ordered 18 donuts (variety) and the very sweet lady who might be the owner helped me super fast, she stacked them so nicely and they were a big hit at work. Donuts can really make someone's day. Noelle's Yelp Notebook 2019 Fresh Donuts is located on Pearl Avenue in San Jose, California. They have a huge selection of donuts- cinnamon crumb, glazed raised, twist, blueberry, crullers, filled donuts of the custard or jam variety, old fashioned. They also serve Boyd's Coffee. If you want something other than sweet they have breakfast croissant sandwiches. Something must have changed in this family owned business because as of late the donuts and the custard filled ones taste super sweet and not in a good way. Maybe they are having an off day? I returned again today on my way to the car dealership for service on my car, so I could buy two dozen of the best doughnuts for the staff there, to show my appreciation as I have done for many years for their great service, parts and sales departments. I arrived around 7 am and was greeted by the lovely older woman I've seen on multiple occasions. She is always friendly and welcoming, and treats me with kindness and care. I purchased two dozen assorted doughnuts for the staff at the dealership which they always enjoy, and a couple of doughnuts for myself (the French swirl with vanilla icing, looks like a pinwheel shape), and a maple iced long doughnut which is delicious with or without cream filling. This is the only doughnut place I have ever frequented that always puts several glazed doughnut holes in each box or bag of doughnuts purchased. When I got home and opened the bag containing my two doughnuts, I was surprised and pleased there were three doughnut holes in there too. As I have done the past few years, once I discovered them, I also purchased an egg and bacon croissant sandwich. It is thick with real scrambled eggs formed into a thick piece, on top of perfectly cooked bacon cut into small pieces to fit inside the delicious buttery croissant, which is substantial! A slice of real cheddar cheese tops it all off. I have tried to make the same sandwich at home but it is never as good as this lady can make. I highly recommend you visit their store soon so you can have some of this melt in your mouth goodness. There is a wide variety of sandwiches you can order, but I always get this one. This place is such a cute hole in the wall! It's family owned, and they're all so nice. I've known the lady for years, and she's the sweetest. Although their donuts are good, the sandwiches are legit heaven sent. I always usually get the BLT on croissant (you have to try their croissants at least once), or their egg, bacon, and cheese on croissant. I guess I should have suspected something was off when, at 7:30 on a Sunday morning, the shop was empty. They had a decent selection and I opted for maple cruller and blueberry cake. Somehow, despite them only being open for 90 minutes, the donuts didn't seem fresh. The blueberry was dry and for some reason, the bottom of the donut was unglazed, hard, and crumbly. The cruller had a nice texture, but the maple flavor was really missing from the glaze. In addition they charge 35 cents for a card transaction. Not a fan, and honestly, just put a cash only sign on the door. Getting sucked into paying a service charge AFTER you've picked your donuts is suspect, in my opinion. read more

It's a bummer majority usually runs out in their huge, delicious selection by 10 AM. Donuts are ok. Prices are a little on the high side. The old lady with the walker that helped us needs to work on her customer service skills. She looked mean and didn't even say hi. The selection left on a Sunday morning by 10:00 am was dismal. We ordered a dozen donuts. They are stingy also, we always get a few donut holes when we order a dozen from Manley donuts but NOT from this case. I give this place a "meh". From my donut tour last summer where I tried donuts from all over San Jose and Los Gatos: Fresh Donuts was one of my favorite donuts. Contrary to popular belief not every donut is the same. Their donut is the perfect combination of fluffiness, doughiness, texture and sweetness. Krispy Kreme is good, but it's not doughy enough for me and too sweet. Fresh Donut is what a good donut should taste like: satisfying which limits you to 1, consistent and they always give you extra donut holes! Generosity these days is rare and the family that owns this place is very generous and usually adds some extra donut holes to my order. I've tried their croissants and bagels, but their donuts are king. I wish the coffee was a little better to stave off a Peet's run afterward, but it's decent enough for a donut shop if you only have time for one stop. Get the coconut donut, it's awesome! read more

I moved here two years ago and love the croissant sandwich. They are super nice. They recognize me in the morning when I stop. Went in the other day and got a sandwich and donuts for our secretaries. I was in my classroom and felt egg shell in my mouth. I took out the bite and threw it away and tried to eat the rest of the sandwich. Shell throughout the entire half. I threw it away and unwrapped the other half and found shell all in it. It was not busy when I got there and the egg seemed a little watery. The food here is amazing!! Everything tastes so fresh and made with care. I personally love the bacon egg croissant sandwich. It's a must to eat it right when you get it when it's piping hot and the cheese is melty and the bacon is crispy. I love bringing people here to try this sandwich for breakfast!! Update: I still really enjoy the quality of the donuts here. However, there's an issue with the service. I buy donuts for work. When served by a specific employee at Fresh Donuts, she is super stingy with the boxes. This morning, I came in and said I would need two dozen donuts, plus some additional donuts. She packed one dozen in one small pink box. She packed the second dozen in one small pink box. Then I asked for an apple fritter, twist, and cinnamon roll. She got out a bag. I asked if she could put them in a box. "For three donuts?", she asked. "Yes, people like to cut off pieces, a bag doesn't work for me". More hesitation. I pointed out that I had said I was getting a two dozen donuts plus some extras. More hesitation. I told her she could charge me extra for the box. After I told her a second time that I would pay for the box, she relented and put the donuts in the box. She charged me $0.45 for the box. Several months ago, I again insisted on getting a box. That time she charged me $0.25 extra, without talking to me about it - I noticed it on my receipt later. I didn't return for awhile, because that experience was pretty frustrating too. I don't know why those big boxes are so precious. I tried my best to be clear about my order (2 dozen + more). I don't know why it took so long to give me a box when I offered to pay for it. I'm getting reimbursed, it's not about the money. It is just such a frustrating experience to place a bigger order and have to haggle about getting a box.
