Modern, bright cafe with Asian-inspired pastries that will definitely perk up your morning! Note that there is limited indoor seating but there are a few small tables outside. I came here twice during my visit to Seattle and got the red bean croissant and the matcha red bean muffin. The red bean croissant was incredible--very flaky croissant with a healthy amount of red bean, and a well-executed spin to the typical red bean buns found in Asian bakeries. Unfortunately I didn't have the same experience with the matcha red bean muffin. By contrast, the red bean was sparse and the muffin itself was very dry and chalky. Both pastries I got were not too sweet, aka the gold standard for Asian palates. The iced americano I got here was also pretty good. Overall recommend giving this place a try! read more

I've been on the hunt for the best chocolate croissant and finally got a chance to try this cute local Seattle chain cafe. As compared to Evoke, I liked Fresh Flours because it had more more chocolate inside (2 full sticks!). But the matcha was very watered down because they use instant matcha (bleh). May be back for their espresso drinks. read more

This bakery is my guilty pleasure when I come into the office. The pastries here are so unique and delicious. Never would I have imagined an adzuki (red bean paste) croissant! I just tried their green tea red bean paste muffin and it is delectable. Not too sweet, perfectly moist and you can taste the matcha in every bite. I've also tried their sesame, matcha, and chocolate almond shortbread cookies. The sesame is ok, matcha and chocolate are my top picks. Perfect little snack when you don't want to overindulge :). Very cute coffee shop with plenty of seating inside despite being a smaller place (they have a small patio outside with seating as well!) Friendly and fast service. Ordered a vanilla latte and a peach danish pastry -- the coffee was surprisingly disappointing (6.5/10) and the pastry, although delicious (8/10) could have tasted better if warmed prior to serving. This place is the best! The one in West Seattle has more baked goods, so the difference between the SLU location and West Seattle is just quantity of options. The lattes are still super foamy and holy cow you can actually taste the espresso! I'll post pictures. They have it decorated adorably for Halloween. The ladies who work here are wonderful. I really wish I could remember to take pretty pictures but no, I am a trash panda of excitement around pastries and coffee. So we checked out of our hotel and had seen this place, so we popped in before visiting our wedding venue as they are within walking distance. Well...let me tell you. Delicious coffee... The best almond croissant I have ever had. It was perfectly flakey and buttery but a bit soft and creamy in the middle. I was wishing I bought two :) I also enjoyed an iced vanilla latte. One of my favorite coffee shops in Seattle! Fresh Flours is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great coffee and delicious baked goods. What really blew me away today was the seasonal strawberry matcha latte. There is no sign of any gritty or powdery texture in the drink. Nice little cozy yet spacious cafe tucked within SLU's newer gentrified area. Haven't noticed other locations with this but they had some really chill & rhythmic music playing in background. Usual pleasant art that likely rotates is neat-o. The local chain overall has a nice pleasant signature vibe to it tweaked with each neighborhood's own flair. This spot has relaxing outdoor seating nearby in the urban jungle. if you like a good spicy chai, thou shalt try the cardamom chai! I think clove is the prominent heat source complimented with the others so that's a nice change from the whole chai playing field. It's by local small biz Three Tree Tea Company (TTTC)*. If it's not listed on the menu by a white sticker, just ask about it. They also have Evergreen chai which also is really good as the less-sweet-more-balanced option. Both are powdered/milled spices (mostly?) so you get that more smooth texture compared to the concentrate variety. The vegan coconut oat cookie is very decent. Not quite the hearty chewy texture I like because it's rather soft but still good. The vegan raw bar is not bad, either. Usually when I see maple syrup as a sweetener then you don't need added refined sugar but oh well. The lone gentleman working was super chill & friendly. *I had no idea they've been around since early 2000's! That makes 3+ local chai businesses that aren't super visible on social media; the others being at least Morning Glory Chai (MGC) and Traveler's Chai. It's a bright and airy shop with some seating inside and a few tables outside as well. The staff is super nice and they have all of the basic coffeeshop offerings as well as some tasty pastries! I casually walked in here, not really looking for coffee or a bakery. I will say that it reminded me a lot of Starbucks. A lot of the sandwich stuff was wrapped and designed to be microwaved. French is not necessarily my favorite food because it has a tendency to be over priced, small portions, and not substantial for a meal. This place wasn't bad though. They serve Onda coffee, here, which I thought was fantastic. They also have housemade simple syrup available, which is great. The pastries, especially the muffins, are delicious! Unfortunately, however, they *still* serve everything in to-go containers, even if you plan to eat on site. That is unfortunate. It is difficult to eat a muffin that crumbles over a paper bag (rather than a plate), and coffee in a paper cup doesn't compare to coffee in a ceramic mug. read more

Last year, Fresh Flours relocated their Ballard location to South Lake Union. The SLU location is a bakery-cafe located on the ground floor of the 8th + Republican Apartments building which is close to the Amazon campus and right next to Glazer's Camera. Having been to the Ballard location previously, this location seems smaller. And they don't do any baking on the premises at this location so it has more of the feel of a coffee shop. There is a decent amount of seating if you do want to dine in. Even some tables just outside the store. The bakery selection here consists of French pastries including croissants and macarons along with Japanese fusion items like green tea cookies and azuki bean muffins. They also offer pre-packed Japanese sandwiches from Sandwich House Tres and salads from Michou. If you are here for baked goods, it is best to come in the morning for the best selection. By lunch time, it looks picked over. I have had a few pastries here. I really like the pithivier ($3.85) which is a puff pastry that resembles pate chaud and meat pie. It makes for a nice savory breakfast in the morning. Have had a couple of the croissants (almond and chocolate) and they were okay. Though I prefer the croissants from bakeries like Bakery Nouveau and Le Panier based on the texture. That said, I do think they have the best French pastries in SLU which is not saying much since there aren't many bakeries in the neighborhood. But it is perfectly fine if you can't venture downtown. read more

Was strolling around SLU looking for a little coffee spot around lunchtime and ran into Fresh Flours. It's a cozy place with a lot of bright lighting and a variety of baked goods. I ordered an 8oz. latte and a Pithivier, which is a buttery, crisp pastry with sausage, leek, onion, mushroom, and mozzarella. Came to around $9 without tip. Both were delicious and perfectly made. Barista was very friendly. I would love to come back to read a book and try more of their baked goods, especially since it seems to be their specialty! read more

My sister and I were over in Phinney Ridge between house viewings and church service starting one Sunday recently and were starving! We decided to stop here to see if we could grab a bite to eat before our next appointment! Sadly, did not try any of their drinks but MAN did they have a decent food selection for a little café/coffee shop. The place was small but ambient with friendly staff and located on the corner of two streets in a super cute area. Lots of beautiful art on the walls and ample seating to sit and get things done or just enjoy your bite to eat/drink!   We tried the blueberry muffin, the Jack breakfast burrito (came with the cutest little cap full of salsa verde dressing), and the green tea muffin! The green tea muffin was SO YUM, Japanese ingredients including matcha (green tea) and sweet red bean paste. I would have never thought to make this flavor muffin, but I have been thinking about it ever since I left! The blueberry muffin had nuts in it and had a yummy brown-sugary cinnamon crumb on top. The JACK taco was gluten-free and vegetarian with corn tortilla, black beans, farm-fresh eggs, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and cotija cheese. Super delicious and all of it was very affordable! $12 for all three food items. We also noticed most of their sandwiches and burritos were gone, meaning they were swiped up before we go there! I came where for a quick pick me up on a Tuesday afternoon. The place is very cute and there is ample seating inside and out. That day, I needed the caffeine and sugar so I got the Green Tea Latte and the Red Bean Croissant. I was super excited about the red bean croissant since I've never seen this cross over before and I love red bean. The latte was alright but the red bean croissant was a little disappointing. I wasn't able to remove the croissant from the paper backing and it was more hassle to remove than I was expecting. Plus because it was stuck on the paper I crushed the crispy parts of the croissant and powdered sugar went everywhere. A little too messy for me! Overall an average experience. Saw this place recently when coming to the Ballard Farmer's Market. Decided to have breakfast here and I think I found a new spot for me to come to. Nice looking selection of baked good as you walk in, some savory items as well like croissants and bagel sandwiches. We decided to get the egg & cheese sandwich on an everything bagel along with a peach danish. Sandwich was good, but I believe its microwaved to be warmed up. Everything bagel had pretty much everything on it and it was quite good and fresh. Peach danish was perfectly crisp, flaky, and with the delicious sweet peaches. A very good morning pastry! Service was fine, they were friendly & nice when ordering. I like the quiet atmosphere and not all loud (except on Sundays) because if I havent had my coffee yet, I get easily annoyed with people. My 100th review, Good. But the happy hour from 4pm to 5pm (closing?) is a killer steal. Come at 4 to make sure you get first choices! Some of the cult favorites and trendy treats had already been selected since it was Sunday. I ordered the mini melon pan with cream but ate my husband's double chocolate almond croissant. I like their baked goods because they are not overwhelmingly sweet and not dry even at the end of the evening. We ordered some more croissants to go at the end. Both ladies working were sweet and courteous with customers. Even while closing and after a long day. Something that really stood out about this bakery was that they have a Brita filled with filtered water for you to pour for yourself. If only most places would do that! I ordered their basque cake and shortbread cookies. The cake is the type pastry I absolutely love: crisp, glazed bread filled with creamy rum custard. Shortbread cookies weren't too sweet (perfect amount) and their unique flavors is what caught my attention (green tea, black sesame, and chocolate almond), all flavorful and perfect bites to complement your drink.
