I really want to like this place. It has a good location and great menu. I love Vietnamese food and based on the food Ive had here they do it well. The restaurant is generally clean but definitely could be much better. Biggest complainant is the service. Workers are friendly but they are very slow. I called 20 mins ahead and waited another 20 mins after I got to the store for a very basic order. I could also see at least four other groups ahead of me, waiting. I witnessed another patron visibly upset that he'd been waiting for so long, one worker had to deal with the complaint which further delayed everyone else's order. While I waited I watched a family wait at the register to order for five minutes then finally leave after they were basically ignored. If you're going to charge a premium for a product then you should provide service equal to the expense. Again, I want to give a good review but given my past few experiences I can't in good faith recommend, based on the service alone. read more

I come here on rainy days for lunch during the weekday. Fast, good price & tasty. There's not much seating, but I seem to luck up on finding a seat most days. The seating area is clean and has a few seats next to the window. They play great music and the staff is friendly. I like that the staff brings your soup to your table. There's no trash cans, so you leave your bowl & trash at the table. The pho options are simple: beef, chicken or Shrimp. I usually get beef. They don't accept requests to cook the meat to your liking (rare, medium etc) but it's 6 bucks, so it's a small inconvenience for the portion and the quality of the food. I took my food to go this time & i've been able to reuse the bowl the pho was served. I wish they would pack the veggies separately from the soup. I prefer the added texture of crisp veggies. They're packed tight with ingredients and are surprisingly satisfying. An order of these could make a light lunch. The pho: FR's version is light and very low on salt. It's not the most authentic rendition you're going to find but having a healthier option is nice. The sandwiches: The sleeper hit of this menu. These are much bigger than I was expecting for $4.99. No hot peppers but it's loaded with delicious, slightly-sweet pickled carrots and daikon radish. Like the spring rolls, these hold their integrity due to the quality baguette. One of my favorite foods is a fresh spring roll with tofu. They should be bursting out the ends with fresh veggies and have thinly sliced tofu nestled among the rice noodles, carrots and cilantro. I was very excited to try Fresh Rolls. I walked in at 11:30 and it was extremely clean, well lit, and the waiter was very helpful. And that was good because I needed the extra help. As I was looking in their display case I literally did not recognize the fresh rolls with tofu and after he pointed them out I thought he had made a mistake and I picked up the package and said again, "These???" When he confirmed that was what I was looking for I wanted to put them back and just leave but I was the only customer and felt awkward. They are basically just a huge slab of tofu with a piece of lettuce and a little bit of carrot. There is also only peanut sauce to dip which is not my favorite. They taste about how they look. (Pics included) I would return and try something else based on the cleanliness and polite staff. But if you're looking for veggie spring rolls there are a lot of better choices. read more

After recently moving to UP and driving by every day I figured I would give it a shot. I was underwhelmed to say the least. It is overpriced, for a normal quick Vietnamese lunch. The places I normally frequent only charge $3 for a large bahn mi sandwich and this place sells them for over $5 and the quality is not "fresh." Also beware, their beef pho only has one kind of "mystery meat" that is pre-cooked added to it. I asked what type of beef it was and she said it was cooked...enough said. However the broth was decent and overall the flavors, although mostly bland, did in fact resemble what I was looking forward to having for our lunch today. Spending over $20 for just my 3 year old and I, it doesn't look like we will be returning. In conclusion, skip this place and go somewhere a little more "fresh" and authentic. read more

I was excited to see a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown. This area clearly lacks a solid go to Vietnamese place for pho, spring rolls, fresh rolls, etc. I hoped Fresh Rolls would fit that niche. The space itself is rather large. It is set up more for take out with convenient pre-made salads and sandwiches. They definitely cater to the local lunch crowd. I, however, ended up ordering and eating there. The service was pleasant and prompt. I decided on the pork eggrolls and chicken eggrolls to start. There's a large batch already prepared in warming trays ready to go. They were very inexpensive for the generous portion you receive. It was cooked well and tasted pretty good. It didn't knock my socks off, but overall had a good crisp taste to it. Our table ordered pho and a chicken noodle salad. Overall pretty good taste with classic Asian flavors of sesame, ginger, and garlic. Portion was pretty good. The pho was super-cheap, but I understood why after looking at the portion size. It came in a plastic bowl that reminded me of a microwave style dish you would heat up at home. The broth, which is key in any pho, was actually good. I was expecting the classic pho style of putting in my own sprouts and basil, but I was disappointed. I wouldn't order pho again. A lot of people rave about the Ginger Tea. We had it on ice and it was quite frankly way over-powering with ginger to the point of bitterness. Maybe they had a strong batch when I tried, but it wasn't worth the $4+. One little pet peeve I had was that I ordered water and they charged 25 cents. Why even bother? Water just seems like it should be the cost of business. I gave this restaurant 3 stars because the service was definitely lacking. The server looked so un-enthused about being at work I felt bad for him. I was underwhelmed with this place. I really wanted to like it since I just live a few blocks away and was excited to hear they made pho, but I don't think I will ever be coming back here. Had the beef pho and I enjoyed it, needed nothing except a little lime, fish sauce, and hot sauce. I only gave it 3 stars because it didn't meet my expectations. This place is is very spacious and clean. I stopped by because it's fairly close to UW Tacoma. I was hoping this place offered somewhat traditional banh mi. I should've known since they call it "vietnamese sandwich." I was only able to try the BBQ pork sandwich, it was decent. However, it is far from traditional. You have the option to have the sandwich toasted and/or spicy. There were a lot of different flavors that you don't normally taste in a banh mi; it was very peppery and sweet (I think it was sweet chili sauce). Worth a try though. If I ever have the chance to go again, I would try something else, probably their teas and fresh rolls. I would recommend this for those who prefer asian flavors with a modern twist. Also there's street parking, since it's located in downtown Tacoma. Price is pretty affordable ($5 for sandwich) and they cater. I work close to Fresh Rolls so I eat there atleast twice a week. It's nice knowing I don't have to stress about a healthy lunch if I forget to bring one (or just don't feel like it). Their spring rolls (I like the shrimp) are huge, and while some complain about them not being made to order, I personally like that so that I can get in and out. They're still very fresh. I also love the chicken salad, the dressing on it is delicious. Other things I've tried were wonton soup, mango iced tea, and vegetable egg rolls. All DELICIOUS!
