The older woman behind the counter, doesn't come out unless you ring a cow bell to get her attention. We were 1st in line. 2 married couples that are friends came in after us. They each had 3 year old kids. The kids were being 3 year old, and making 3 year old noises. The woman "Barbara" is her name. Then complains about the noise the kids are making and it's hurting her hearing aids. Not once, not twice, literally like 5 times. TO THE PARENTS FACES. I was taken a back by this woman's audacity to insult the kids to the parents faces. The woman went in the back and we all commiserated about how bad she was. The pizza looks like a digirno. This place was absolutely awful. Unfortunately we hadn't read the yelp reviews before pulling in on a Saturday night after visiting the ice castles. The sign on the road is attractive and read "pizza, subs, salads" so we were excited as a family of 5 to each enjoy some yummy dinner. My oldest daughter and i ordered a veggie sub, my youngest ordered a bit, my husband ordered a meatball sub, and my son ordered a hamburger sub. I wish we had known that the owner hates making anything other than pizza. It was 6:34 when our order was placed. It was odd that she was all alone in the restaurant, taking orders, ignoring phone calls, and only a few patrons, but we hoped for the best and sat to wait for our food. Then we opened yelp and read all of these reviews, wondering what our fate would be. Soon we began hearing the owner complain to other patrons about people who come to a pizza place and order other items besides pizza. She actually told people coming in that she would only accept pizza orders, nothing else, not even a beverage. Time passed. We saw pizzas come in and out, no sign of our food. Our kids were getting hungry. There was literally no sign of our sandwiches, or other customer's sandwich orders behind us. When she emerged with another pizza, i requested our order be canceled. She yelled back at me "when i have time!" She came out maybe 5 minutes later (with another pizza) and began complaining to other patrons about me, stating that "some people like to mess with her, ordering lots of different items". ARE YOU KIDDING? Came down from a six hour hike with wife and daughter and her friend and they wanted pasta so we came across this place. I'm a chef and frequent the area, but haven't ever stopped in here. It was a busy tourist weekend and there was only one car in the parking lot while all the other places were busy, usually a red flag, but I thought maybe they just opened? Inside there was a bell to be rung for service, a little after I rang it a grimy old lady appears and asks us if we know what we want (there was a menu written on cardboard cutouts on the counter. This pizza is fantastic and tastes home made. The shop is run entirely by a single elderly widow, Barbara. That's right. Front register, phone, pizza oven, trash, cleaning. Everything. She's hilarious, a gem, and a good time. She kept us entertained for close to an hour and gave us some of her scratch made cookies free for the road. The menu is of course limited, she showed us what it used to be when she had help, but what she is able to do tastes fantastic and is clearly done with care and a lifetime of experience. The decor and furniture are old and dated, but considering the owner operator is entirely alone, the place is clean. A glimpse through the open door to the kitchen looked organized and cleaner than most chain restaurants. I imagine many of the negative reviews come from guests experiencing a woman well beyond the age of retirement single-handedly running a busy Pizza restaurant. So I read through the reviews before giving my own. Because I thought maybe she just had a bad day. I'm assuming the one nice review was by someone who knew her or a local. I don't see how that woman could be kind or hilarious in any way. I was working a wedding in the area, I had a break where I was able to eat after I had set up and before the wedding would start. So I googled the closet place for food as I was limited for time. I found this place, called and orders a sub. I arrived about a minute later and saw they had pasta. I'm a pasta fanatic. So excitedly I ran inside and stated that I had just placed an order for a sub but I also wanted pasta. She yelled at me! And said she didn't have time for this and went back in the kitchen saying that I didn't want my sub. It was me and my sister together, I wanted both. She had one other table in the whole restaurant who then looked at me laughed and said "she's crazy" as they were having a similar experience with her rude demeanor. She came back out and I tried to explain that I wanted both but long story short, I left crying, and drove an extra 10 minutes to McDonald's. read more

I'm writing about visits to this place over the last 20 years, mostly at least 10 years ago. My wife and 2 young sons would walk across the street from our motel, and have lunch, while I was usually out hiking. They were OK with the food, I thought is was lousy. Mama Fresolone was obviously bonkers, but after awhile you could work with her. She seemed to be on her best behavior after giving up diet Pepsi back in the day, but these recent reviews make me wonder. Oh, she thought diet Pepsi made her crazy. Anyway, I stopped in there last year after a long absence, ordered a bottle of beer, and just sort of hung around while she took forever to make my lousy lunch. The back of the place is a great place to hang out, and Mama Fresolone ain't so bad if let her vent a little. Actually chatted it up with the old girl. I'll be back. My husband and I, agaisnt all the negative reviews, went here Sunday. We absolutely love Barbara!!! She is great, we stayed, ate and talked with her for 2 hours. The pizza was absolutely delicious. The owner and older woman (Barbara I believe is her name) was rude, bad attitude, unprofessional, unfriendly, no manners and disrespectful. She shouldn't be working if she's that miserable and not take it out on her customers. Her behavior was shocking, unacceptable and scared my young granddaughters too, yelling at us. I'd never recommend that place, and warn them to avoid going there. She'd rather ignore you than wait on you. She had no worker helpers there, so now I can see why, as nobody would want to work for her. People behind me left feeling uncomfortable too. We did too. She was horrible and it bothered me as I never was treated that way before, ever. I'll never forget how mean she was and my young granddaughters felt traumatized by her too. ****HORRIBLE**** My sister & I walked in to this place & waited a few minutes for service. Nobody came but we noticed a cowbell w a sign that said to Ring for service. Two customers that were there told us to keep ringing louder bc the lady/owner was hard of hearing. RUN!!! I had 3 hungry kiddos with me and we stopped at the first place we saw that offered pizza. The lady was nice and welcoming at first, but mistook our order of Broccoli pizza for sausage (we're vegetarian), blamed us for giving her the wrong order, yelled at my children several times ("are you deaf? For some messed up reason, I have been here several times. Both in summer and winter. Always terrible service. If I could give it zero stars I would. First, the ordering process is pitiful. You stand there like an idiot waiting for somebody to finally slither out of the back to take your order. Forget about asking for recommendations. You'll get a blank stare followed by "I dunno. This place is one of the last little gemstones this town has left with restaurants. After places like pegs, longhorn, dads, and even the Italian place where imperial palace is now have left this is one of the pillars of one of this community. Don't like the owners attitude? Then you try running a busy pizza place for 30+ years every single day with nothing but yourself and fresh ingredients from scratch. You don't get food made like this anymore. Its a dying breed. Is it possible to give less than 1 star? We arrived around 8:20pm on a Saturday night. My husband and boys went inside to grab water. My husband asked if we could put them on our tab as we were on the deck and wanted to order dinner. She hollered at him, "No" and told him to grab a menu. So he put the water back and we sat at our table waiting to order. After about 10-15 minutes I went inside to see if I could order and a nicer woman (who was not the owner) informed me that they were closed for the night. I didn't realize that the first woman we encountered WAS the owner and I suggested that we would have appreciated knowing when we first arrived that they were closed, as opposed to 20 minutes later. Wow! Just don't bother. It is not worth the irritation. We were staying at the Mt. Coolidge Motel and the owner told us that the pizza place owner was "crazy" but we had NO IDEA. There was one woman working at lunch. As we looked at the menu she walked away and didn't come back for over 5 minutes. By then 5 more groups were in line behind us. She snippily told us to order quickly because of the line. After we paid over $30 for chicken fingers, fries and an eggplant parm with 2 drinks. She then took another 15 minutes taking everyone else's order and disappeared for an hour. I saw her in the kitchen eating fries off of patrons' orders. She finally brought everyone's food out and served in reverse order so that by the time she got to us we didn't get any fries. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. I complained. She started mocking me to other customers and calling me sir when I'm clearly not. I told her the worst thing of all is that she wasn't even apologetic about screwing up the order after such a long wait. The food, incidentally, was luke warm and disgusting.
