    I will say the groomsmen's suits and tux looked really nice! None of them had a problem with fit and there was a good selection of colors to choose from. That being said it was REALLY expensive just to rent. (At least $200 for each suit). I've never rented so I don't know how much it cost but I feel like I could have explored my options more. BIG CON: I paid a lot of money for my son's rental ($180) and they measured him and everything. When I go to pick up it doesn't fit! They just tell me well he is small and this is the smallest we have! Ok then you should have said something when I was trying to rent it. That just seemed really dishonest and like they wanted to get more money out of me. I could have picked something equally as nice on Amazon for $40 that would have fit him a lot better. I need to used safety pins just to get it to fit. I was really upset about this. BIG PRO: one groomsman backed out 4 days before the wedding and they were able to accommodate a last minute switch. This groomsman was never measured so it didn't matter but still that was nice they were able to get us in so quickly. PRO: again, the colors and the guys looked great. CON: expensive ; don't rent for younger kids. Just get cheaper online. Not a lot of color choices for kids either. Side note: the ties in the picture were not from Friar tux, I bought those separately on Etsy.

On Tuesday, March 3, I called at 3:27 PM while driving from the UTC area. I saw 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM appointments available, indicating they were fairly open that afternoon, but explained I wasn't comfortable entering my credit card information online because reviews mention a strict 15-minute late charge policy. I told the associate I would try my best to make the 4:30 PM slot, and that if other brides arrived before me they should take priority. I also said that if it looked like I could arrive within the 4:45 PM grace period, I would enter my information while driving. I was communicating proactively because that day a fiery fatal tractor-trailer crash shut down southbound I-805 near I-8 for roughly 12 hours, creating traffic chaos across San Diego. As traffic worsened on the 52 East, my ETA slipped to about 4:48 PM. At 4:25 PM, I called again to explain that I likely wouldn't arrive before 4:45 PM and wanted to avoid being charged the late fee. I asked what options were available. I was simply trying to communicate proactively and avoid being charged for something outside of my control. I was repeatedly told that because I was not already in their appointment system before 4:30 PM, they could not help me at all. I suggested several reasonable options: (1) marking me as arrived so I could finish driving safely, or (2) simply working with the situation, but every suggestion was rejected. They offered to apply the $50 late fee towards a dress, but couldn't answer what would happen if I didn't find my dress there. The conversation continued in circles. At that point I was about 10 minutes away and would have arrived at 4:48 PM, just three minutes past their grace period. Despite calling ahead, communicating honestly, and making every effort to come to their store, they refused to accommodate me. My friend had come with me to help look for a wedding dress, so the situation unfortunately wasted both of our time. We ended the call around 4:40 PM, and I turned around and drove home. Ironically, at 4:45 PM, the store called back with a workaround: if I made an appointment for the next day, they could simply mark me as "arrived" in their system and take me in immediately. This made it clear they had the capacity to help the entire time, but had chosen to rigidly enforce their process instead of welcoming business. When I pointed this out, I was told they have been in business for 40 years, which makes the lack of flexibility and basic customer consideration all the more surprising. Based on this experience, I'm glad I learned how this business operates before even walking through the door. It doesn't inspire confidence in how customers are treated once they've committed, and it's not the kind of experience that would make me feel comfortable trusting them with something as personal as a wedding dress.

I have been to Gypsy Treasure several times in the past, but this was my first visit since they have moved to the Grossmont Center location (apparently about five years ago). I came in about 5 days before Halloween, primarily in search of makeup and a crown for my Day of the Dead festival look. When I walked in, the place was pretty hopping. However, I was quickly greeted at the makeup counter and walked through the white face paint options, and given information about some of the various color palettes. After some conversation and deliberation, I chose a white water-based face paint and a couple of color palettes. One was glow-in-the-dark. I then asked about flower crowns, and was surprised to find that they only had one. It was one of those cheesy costume kits that came with skeleton hand gloves and skull earrings, neither of which I wanted. However, the price was pretty inexpensive, so I purchased it just for the crown. I looked around for a hat for my husband's costume, but couldn't find exactly what he wanted, though they had some pretty unique hats. Gypsy Treasure has a large selection of costumes for rent, which appeared to be of much higher quality than the costumes for sale. I saw several cute vintage dresses and hats for women, as well as some pretty elaborate costumes. I did feel that several of the costume items in the front of the store were the same quality you would get from any Halloween store. However, I would definitely return for makeup, or if I had costume needs outside of the Halloween season.

Despite the circumstances, this company still charged the groom, the bride's father, grandfather, brother, and all of the groomsmen for rental suits that were never picked up or worn. What made this especially disappointing was seeing how every other vendor involved handled the situation with compassion and understanding. Many of those vendors were also small, individually owned businesses that likely felt the financial impact far more deeply, yet they still chose empathy over profit. Even the wedding venue, which stood to lose significantly more financially, either refunded or waived charges immediately upon hearing the news. Instead, this company chose to prioritize collecting roughly $2,500 for rental items they can simply rent out again. Their response during an unimaginable tragedy spoke volumes about their values and how they view their customers. For full transparency, the company offered a 50% refund, but only on the condition that the party send a specific, pre-written statement for their records. They required us to write: "I accept a 50% refund... and I appreciate all the attention provided by Bridal and Tuxedo Galleria." Leveraging a partial refund to force a grieving family to sign a statement of "appreciation" is predatory. It was a calculated move to protect their reputation and mitigate liability while still profiting from a devastating loss. I understand businesses have policies, but compassion and basic human decency matter too. Unfortunately, that was completely lacking here.

He asked if we were ready to make a purchase before even completing my second son's measurements or allowing them to try on suits. I explained that we weren't committed to buying just yet--we wanted to make sure both of my sons found something they liked, as I didn't want to go to two different places. Since measurements are necessary before trying anything on, the approach felt a little rushed and slightly pressured before we even had a chance to fully understand the rental process, available options, or pricing within our budget. Once both of my sons found suits they liked, the experience shifted in a more positive direction. However, during the measuring and fitting process, we were interrupted several times because Aaron had to step away to assist at the front desk. While I understand a manager may need to step in when necessary, there seemed to be enough staff available, and it would have been helpful to have another associate assist us to avoid the repeated interruptions. What likely could have been a 45-minute process ended up taking closer to an hour and a half to two hours. We were informed that payment was required upfront, which was fine, as we were already in the system and planned to return later in the week to complete everything. Aaron did provide us with a detailed copy of our order, which we appreciated since we were doing a full head-to-toe rental (everything except undergarments). After that, the process felt smooth and well-organized. We were told we could return the suits to any location, which was especially convenient since we would be in Irving for prom. Pricing is on the higher side--especially during prom season, which I understand is their busiest time--but they did offer a promotional discount that made it more manageable. Most importantly, my sons looked amazing. The suits were pristine, well-pressed, and overall a great choice for such a special occasion. One note: my oldest son's suit could have been sized down slightly, so I'd recommend making sure you're completely happy with the fit before leaving. They do offer overnight exchanges if needed, which is a great option--just be sure to allow enough time and consider picking up early to avoid any last-minute stress. Overall, despite a slightly rocky start and some interruptions, I would recommend them if you're looking for a convenient, one-stop shop for formalwear.
