A good friend and I dropped in to get some comfort food. The menu sounded tantalizing with the fried pork chops smothered with gravy. The menu has so many good sounding choices so it was hard to decide what to try for my first visit. I settled on the smothered pork chops meal and my friend decided to go with a conservative choice of a fried chicken meal. We placed our order and sat at one of the outside tables. One of the workers came out and gave us a Hot Link slider with french fries sample. The Hot Link slider was delicious and the fries were prepared the way excellent fries are made. The fries tasted like the ones that you quick fry, remove and then fry again. They were tender, great seasoning and a nice fried crunch. We both loved the sample more than our lunches The chicken came with two pieces of fried chicken, corn on the cob and my friend chose mac n cheese as his side dish and a corn bread muffin. He loved the Mac n cheese and the muffin which was very moist and tasted great. He thought the chicken was good, not real juicy or flavored but a good fried chicken. My smothered pork chops plate was huge, came with 2 good sized fried pork chops, corn on the cob and I chose potato salad and a roll. The pork chops were relatively tender, the gravy was a little more liquidity than what I normally eat, potato salad was a very good homemade side dish and the gravy over the rice was tasty. I would have preferred a more thicker traditional homemade brown gravy. I couldn't finish my order for lunch so I ended up getting two meals out of my lunch. We plan to go back to have the hot link and french fries. The menu has a wide variety so we'll have go back a couple of times to try some of the other dishes. Service is excellent and you get generous portions. Visit Frickin Fried for good home style comfort food.

Wow! Eating here is like eating at home. Everything that we ordered was seasoned to perfection. Made with love and soul food skills! The smothered pork chops were huge, not the thin see through pork chops. The gravy smooth and tasty. The gumbo was really nice with the chicken sausage while gave it good flavor. We also got the greens, mac n cheese, and yams with corn bread. All very good. Parking is super convenient and accessible. They have indoor and outdoor seating with a rest room for customers. We can't wait to come again!

About five mins from my house and some how one plate came out soggy and the other well done. Mac and cheese was alright.. the people there were nice but maybe because it was the end of the day the food was a miss. Who knows not sure we shall see if there is a next tim.

1st time here, came on lunch. I'm giving them 3 stars because the mash potatoes tasted like they had blue cheese in them. Not very good at all, I also had the lamb chop combo which included salad/mash potatoes. No dressing was on the salad or in the bag. The chops with the butter sauce on them were very good and the cornbread. We also had the fish combo with bassa and alligator, both were very good. The sides that came with the fish combo were ok.

Man am I glad I found this spot! We were looking for a good non-chain bbq spot and stumbled on this place- and boy is this a hidden gem! Down south home cookin all the way around, including deep fried ribs and pies! Not only is the food amazing, but the ladies give you free samples as you're deciding what you want of while you wait. These ladies know how to draw people in.. and their food is amazing!

***Update: Received a message from the owner Jamie about the different amount that was charged to my account for my meal. Their merchant services charges a fee when you pay using a card. Apparently I missed this verbiage when I was using their tablet to pay. I really appreciate that the owner personally contacted me to explain this. Thank you, Jamie! I have no problem with card fees as long as they're displayed or mentioned ahead of time. I'm happy to update my rating and my original review still stands correct. **Original Review***: Whew LAWD! That's that GOOD good right there. Mm hmm. Straight up schmackin'! That good ol' southern food royalty. I hit the jackpot tonight. I don't think this place knows what they've started. It's so hard to find good southern/soul/Cajun food out this way. I usually have to trek to the cuts of Oakland and dodge the homeless (and God forbid bullets), struggle to find parking, watch over my shoulder, and sometimes deal with bad service in the process. But to find this place in Concord is a goldmine! I recently came back from a trip to New Orleans. Ever since I left, I've been craving for some southern fried fish. I did a Yelp search just to see what might be around. Sure enough this spot popped up and I forgot that I had bookmarked it months ago. Took a drive to check it out and there was plenty of open parking out in front. Walked in and was warmly greeted by the owner (I think?!) and her sister. They showed me where to find a menu and I looked over it. My mind was pretty set on fried fish, but I still took a look just in case. Their menu offerings are wonderful! They've got the lovable fried suspects like fried chicken and fish, but they also have an entirely different menu on the wall of other specialities like oxtails, gumbo, and even clam chowder. The owner's sister mentioned that they had oxtail that day (a Sunday specialty). Lawd KNOWS that I love me some oxtail, but my heart was too set on that fried fish. Ended up ordering the fried catfish dinner with collard greens and mac and cheese. I was planning on getting some banana pudding but the owner told me that they were sold out of it along with their peach cobbler and their sweet potato pie. While I waited for the food, I chatted with the owner and her sister. She told me that they had been open for 10 months and that she's usually in the back cooking but decided to trade places with her son so that he could have some practice in the kitchen. I just LOVE that this is a family owned and operated business (black woman owned at that!). I fully support it! They brought me samples of their oxtail and gravy and cherry lemonade. When I say mouthwatering! BOTH were scrumptious but them oxtails bay-beh! Geezuuuus! So tender and delicious with the most flavorful gravy! It left me wanting more. So good and such a sweet gesture too. When my food was ready, the owner's sister showed me what it looked like. My mouth literally watered y'all. Had to close my mouth for fear of some drool coming out. My entire car smelled like the sweet aroma of that fried catfish, do you hear me?! I just KNEW it was finna be good from the smell alone. I don't know how I got home so fast, but as soon as I did, I dove head first into that damn plate. HALLELUUUUUUU!!!! I think my eyes rolled to the back of my head a few times. You. Guys. That. Catfish. ZZZAAAAAMN! You wanna talk about SEASONED?! You wanna talk about some southern fried?! You wanna talk about some BOMB ass fish. Yaaaasss! So, so, so good. Just what I wanted. Just what I needed. And them collard greens?! HITTIN'! And that cornbread?! HITTIN'! Need I say more? Did not and could not finish it all in one sitting. The leftovers are sitting in my fridge waiting to be eaten mañana as we speak. If the fish is that good I can only imagine what the banana pudding taste like. I am READY babyyy! Gimme, gimme, gimme! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was because of a minor discrepancy with the charge that was on my account. The owner has since addressed this issue, so I'm sure nothing like this will happen to any other customers in the future. Shoutout to the owner and her family for the wonderful welcome and sheer hospitality. You've just made a return customer out of me. I'll be back for a full serving of those oxtails real soon. Concord is "Frickin'" lucky to have Frickin' Fried in the neighborhood!

You just had to be there ...... Food: delicious! Everything was soooo good ! Service : above and beyond Ambiance : nice and perfect for the location This mom and pop spot was AMAZING !!!! This is a nice brunch / lunch / dinner place. I wouldn't recommend for a party over than 5. Seating is outdoors which is perfect for warm weather like today. Miss Jamie was sooo sweet as well as the other young lady (I didn't get a chance to get her name) Order in or takeout at its finest.

Food was delicious, portions were awesome. If you want to eat good and be super full afterwards this is the spot for sure.

It's hard out here trying to find good soul food but I'm still looking for a spot. Unfortunately this was not good. I had the catfish and fries and fried chicken with a side of Mac and cheese and banana pudding. The food was lacking in flavor and the fries were soggy. Even the banana pudding was a disappointment. It was too dry. The place was a hole in the wall with a small table outside only. The staff was very friendly. There is a large parking lot with several other restaurants.

It was 1.5 miles away, but closing in less than an hour. I decided to go by and see it they were still serving. I wasn't really expecting much 45 mins before closing. I parked right in front, and saw they were cleaning up the dining room. So I asked the young lady if they were still open, and she said "Yes, c'mon in!" I ordered the fried chicken combo meal with mac 'n cheese and green beans. Total was $20.04. I thought it was funny that they price it at $20.04. It would actually look better if it was $19.99. How was the food? I was surprised. 35 mins before closing, and the fried chicken was still moist with a spicy heat to the flavor. The skin was lightly crisp. The mac 'n cheese was creamy. The green beans were just okay. The food was being kept in warmers. There's nothing wrong with keeping food in warmers as long as holding times are observed and proper temps are maintained. As I left both the young lady and the server thanked me for coming. Next time, I will have to return at around dinner time. Support Local Business in the SF Bay Area!

To me, the food ended up being just okay. It definitely wasn't bad, but a lot of it was dry and pretty average when it came to seasoning and flavor. Now, you might be thinking, "What do I know about good BBQ?". To be fair, I'm not claiming to be a BBQ expert. But I do know I've had BBQ at other well-known spots around the Bay Area and even in Texas that was much more flavorful, juicy, and moist. FOOD: 7/10 A lot of us ordered brisket-based dishes, and unfortunately, the brisket was pretty dry. Even after dipping it in their BBQ sauce, it was still dry, the sauce mainly just added flavor. For my sides, I got the potato salad and coleslaw. The potato salad was good! The coleslaw, however, was pretty mid. It mostly tasted like plain cabbage and could've used a bit more flavor. The cornbread had a nice, slightly toasted exterior, but the inside was very dry and crumbly, making each bite fall apart. I was especially excited to try the banana pudding because I'd been craving it for the longest time, and thankfully, it didn't disappoint. It had that classic creamy pudding texture, the vanilla wafers were perfectly soft, the whipped cream was smooth, and overall I really enjoyed it. SERVICE: 9/10 Ordering is done through a QR code on your phone, and the staff brings everything out to you. We had barely submitted our order when our drinks and dessert arrived, and our entrées followed shortly after. Everything came out surprisingly fast. We also had the chance to meet Juju, who is Jackie's cousin (Jackie is the owner and chef). If you look at the menu, there's actually a section featuring Juju's specialty teas and juices. She was honestly the sweetest and funniest person. I absolutely adored her! She was so fun to chat with and shared that a lot of well-known Bay Area names have stopped by Jackie's, including LaRussell, E-40, and members of the 49ers. It was such a nice interaction and definitely one of the highlights of our visit. AMBIANCE: 7/10 The restaurant is simple and spacious with plenty of different seating options. If you're looking to grab a drink, they also have a bar area. The restrooms are downstairs. The sink and toilet were kind of going through it but they got the job done. There's parking available both upstairs and downstairs. Just be careful because the parking spaces are pretty tight and narrow. Overall, I can definitely see why people enjoy this place, but for me, the BBQ just didn't live up to the hype. I'm glad I got to try it for myself. It was definitely a situation where you need to try it for yourself despite the reviews.

Yes, this restaurant did that. Earlier this week, I saw an article announcing their closing after Tuesday, 12/24/2024. They were unable to negotiate a new lease here This prompted me to change my original plan of a Malaysian family dinner for the Saturday before. To avoid the dinner rush, I phoned in my order and picked up our family's dinner around 3 pm. The dining room was half full but I'm sure it would get busy as it got darker outside. For my final meal from here, I had the BBQ ribs with corn and potato salad (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=oEOr5DU5miue2U2PT87Xfw). I was only able to finish half of my meal and will finish it tomorrow. It was delicious and filling. The gals who man the counter are always nice and it was nice to wish them a farewell. I was fortunate to see Koo who has manned this location for at least the last decade after they expanded to the Clement location. He told me that they plan to operate a ghost kitchen at 6th St. and Market St., close to my office. Thank you, Hard Knox, for providing so many memorable meals to my family and me.
