1st, upon arriving at the register, the nice lady at the counter gave my wife and I, each a small sample of fried okra, fried chicken, mac and cheese, and greens. I thought that was a classy touch as we waited outside for our full order. We received our food after about 20 minutes. For $27 and some change, we got maybe 2 mid sized fillets cut into catfish bites, 1 very small 50 kernel piece of corn, small cornbread, and an okay portion of fries(pictured) Food was not bad at all, but portions could be much better for the amount spent. I love this place. I've been here a handful of times and although I hope to try everything in the menu, my go to is the fried catfish. I love it. My favorite sides are the greens, dirty rice, and I always get a side of brown gravy (I love gravy). Not only is the food great, the freaking customer service and hospitality is amazing. They family who runs this place are so nice and just make you feel at home. It's really awesome. And they always treat us to free samples while we wait and it's introduced me to new things that I end up ordering the next time (cue the dirty rice and gumbo). The slight downside for me (and it would most likely be me) is that at the end of the meal, I know I definitely ate way more salt than my body can handle. Hot diggity dawg! Frickin Fried alligator dinner was a hit tonight . So glad to have the chance to try gator meat because I have heard great things about it. Had it delivered for dinner and when it arrived, it was still warm and crisp. The styrofoam lid of the clamshell container was well vented on the sides. To me, gator tastes like a cross between lean pork and chicken, with the texture of pork. Very good! The collard greens were cooked well and very tasty, the fries are the freshly-cut potato variety (similar to what you would have at Five Guys). Fried catfish has always been one of my favorite southern meals, so that is going to be my next choice from this restaurant. read more

They gave a great portion of fish, and it was fried perfectly! The red beans and rice had great flavor but the rice could have stand to be cooked a bit. The potato salad had a sweet taste to it, which I didn't mind too much once I got use to it. I also ordered the 7up cake which was just ok, the texture wasn't pound cakey enough and could have used more 7up flavor. All in all, I Would definitely order from here again. MUST TRY... so my husband found this place on Tiktok "Bay Area Food Review". We visited this place today 8/4/23. Let me tell you..it was absolutely delicious. The wings were so full of flavor and the Mac and cheese..should be named a pot of GOLD. I also purchased the peach cobbler and oh my...I ate it all. Not sure why the line is not out the door. Now, unlike the previous pictures and to clarify..there is NO seating. You walk in directly to the order counter, place your order and wait for it. There is not a lot of standing room on the inside and we were fine with that. As you can see, they have lots of beautiful tables, chairs and umbrellas just outside the door so you can sit and be comfortable. While it was a hot day, I noticed they also have an outdoor heater for perhaps later in the afternoon. We will definitely be returning and I will post more pics. The chicken was juicy and very flavorful. Yams were amazing. My mom got the fried gator greens and yams. She loved it! I was reluctant to try it but I have to say it was damn good! I'm so glad this place survived COVID. It's the epitome of a "hole in the wall" but with big flavor to make up for it. I've had their fried chicken in the past, but I feel like they improved the seasoning. This time, I opted for the smothered lamb chops and it did not disappoint. The collards, corn, and cornbread were perfect sides. When they say smothered, they really mean SMOTHERED. I actually had a bit of a challenge cutting the meat up because gravy would just come bubbling out from underneath and almost overflow the to-go container. I love that it's drowning in their gravy! Despite the fact that they were having some AC issues (leaking/flooding the lobby), the lady in charge (presumably the owner?) was very warm/friendly. Took my orders quickly, even offered me a complimentary fresh fruit cup which was very nice! Ordered the Cod fry, and it was good. Batter was done nicely, seasoning was not overly salty. Cod can be dry, but mine wasn't. It came with potato wedges, corn on the cob, coleslaw and corn bread. Cornbread was delicious! After I ate, lady even offered me a free Drumstick Icecream! Yay! Would definitely comeback! These are the type of establishments that deserve our patronage! What a pleasure it was to stumble upon this jewel of a spot. Love me some soul food and especially love a Black owned and operated restaurant!! I wasn't sure what to order but the owner guided me toward catfish and I was not disappointed! I substituted the sides with yams and collard greens (upcharge applied). Catfish didn't need any extra seasoning. Yams were sweet- dessert worthy. Greens were yummy and only needed a dash of hot sauce (personal preference). The portions were huge and the service was amazing. They gave me fresh fruit to snack on while I waited. It felt like they were happy I was there which is rare these days. They even let me taste the Mac and cheese- winner as well! I tasted the pie because I was beyond full from the huge portions. I think it will be a winner too. My friend and I have been coming to this place to feed our family over the past 5 months on spontaneous weekends. Typically when we are CRAVING it, because it use to be that good! EVERYTIME we come, we spend A LOT of money! As we have a pretty big family. We've recommended the place to almost everyone we know because aside from the delicious food we are always greeted and treated with great hospitality. Today we were not greeted with the same smiles and big personalities. Although not rude, it was not the vibe we were use to. After ordering and leaving a tip we paid $152.34. When we receive our food 20-35 minutes later. We take it to the car, typically the food is amazing so no need to check the bag. We took a sip of the Koolaid and it tasted like FAUCET water and lack of flavor, which is typically the complete opposite of what we are use to. When we got to the house and distributed everyone's food (3- fish combos, 1- gumbo, 2- deserts) the shrimp was SEVERELY over cooked(looked as if they redropped old shrimp), macaroni was beyond flavorless and there was a this coat of what looked to be a pile of cheese, greens had a VERY weird taste, banana pudding looked as if it had been sitting for DAYS(the Nilla Wafers disintegrated when scooped out), the pie crust to the sweet potato pie wasn't cooked all the way through. The fish was decent, the yams were the star of the show. Sadly we will not be back, for that money and amount of time we waited we expected the same food and service we typically get when coming. Friends we had recommended to eat here texted, after seeing us post we were there, saying the food is awful and they gave it to homeless. It's very unfortunate as we've NEVER had this experience, but definitely left a horrible taste in our mouths. For almost $200 we were forced to eat the food. I recently attended a wedding reception that was beautiful, but the quality of the food was horrible. The menu consisted of smothered turney wings, mashed potatos, corn, meat loaf, and salad. The turkey wings wasn't fully cooked, the meat loaf was mush, and the mashed potatos were instant(box) runny. She didn't even provide any drinks. I would not recommend that anyone book her for any special events due to the quality of the food;as it was unapperizing.
