We just landed from a 28 hour flight from Asia and this was the first place we wanted to try being back home. It did not disappoint! When I say I was so happy to be back, it was because of places like the Frida Room. The space was a bit tight but I was focused on the bigger picture: the delicious food (and wonderful service). Both dishes we got were top tier! Not only that... the cafe de olla was probably the coffee I've had in Chicago in a long time. Definitely the best Cafe De Olla. I would go back just for the coffee honestly. Again, I can't hype of the service well enough and the beauty in these pictures. Marvelous. They were on top of it and always nearby if we ever needed anything. So kind & friendly. If you've never been, go tomorrow (haha). Personal Review: 8.8/10

If you're a Frida fan then I recommend you go here as it is decked out in decorations representing her. They didn't take reservations when I went - not sure if this has changed, but I'd say be mindful of that if not. The inside was packed so we had to opt into sitting outside. That was fine but I wanted to be able to see their decor so that part got ruined for me. The food (I ordered chilaquiles) was okay - definitely needed more sour cream & cheese imo

I recently visited Frida's Room and had a really lovely experience. I tried the chilaquiles, and they were absolutely delicious--definitely some of the best I've had in a while. I also loved their café de olla; it was such a cozy touch and really hit the spot. The whole place has a charming vibe, and the prices felt really fair for the quality and service. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area!

My wife and kids took me here to celebrate my birthday before heading to nearby Museum of Mexican Art to check out their Dia de Muertos exhibit. I LOVE brunch and this place did not disappoint! My wife ordered our go-to chilaquiles with salsa verde. Two of my sons ordered the churro French toast and my youngest got the pancakes with cajeta and la lechera. Since I can't usually find it on menus, I opted for a bowl of carne en su jugo which hit the spot! The pleasant surprise was the cafe de olla at Frida Room! So good and I could drink that stuff all day long. The service and hospitality was excellent from the moment we arrived. The artwork was the icing on the cake Don't walk to this Pilsen gem, run!

While in Chicago, we got a chance to check out rut Frida Room for breakfast and it did not disappoint. Not only does the Frida Room offer a great variety of top brunch choices for you to enjoy, but it has a plethora of mouth watering dishes from their famous chilaquiles, pancakes, panini's, not to mention the best hamburgers and enchiladas in Chicago. The Frida Room has the best Mexican American breakfast in Chicago. You really can't go wrong with anything off their menu, I kept it simple with the eggs any style, with the sausage links. The dish comes with potatoes and I also got sliced tomatoes and a English muffin. I loved that their potatoes was nice and crispy and the English muffin was grilled. Their breakfast burritos are really good as well. The service was really good as well, servers were very pleasant and attentive. They also keep the coffee and water coming. I love that they put cucumbers in their water, which was really refreshing. If I'm in the Pilsen neighborhood I will definitely return.

A wonderful, beautiful restaurant with staff that goes above and beyond for the guests. All of the staff exudes kindness and compassion. They let us enter with a stroller and were helpful and willing to make accommodations to change tables in order to comfortably accommodate the stroller. They were attentive, ensuring that our coffee was refilled and checking up on us to make sure that we enjoyed the food. We already felt like the experience was perfect, but what made it even more special was the birthday celebration for my family member. The staff lovingly sang and brought out a plate of delicious pancakes. Our favorite part of the meal was the coffee options; I couldn't stop sipping from my café de olla. It was so flavorful and sweet, and it was enjoyable to drink without anything else mixed in. For food, we ordered the guacamole and chips, chilaquiles, and molletes. We liked the chilaquiles best with the verde sauce. We cannot praise this restaurant enough for such an enjoyable breakfast experience! So much gratitude to the kind staff who work so hard and made it so nice! I would recommend making a reservation because, as you can expect, it does get pretty crowded on the weekends!

Stopped in for an early weekend breakfast in Pilsen. Fun decor (yes, you'll see Frida) and music. Friendly waitstaff. Carafe of cold cucumber infused water on the table was a nice touch to start. I got the Molletes, as I've never tried this dish before. It's described on the menu as an authentic dish from Mexico City - toast with refried beans, mozzarella, pico de gallo, queso fresco, and topped with sunny side up eggs (+$2). The dish is served with crispy and seasoned potatoes. I asked if it'd be possible to substitute fruit instead of the potatoes (would be ok with an upcharge) but was told no substitutions for this dish. This was pretty good at first! I liked the beans and the bright pico, and the drippy eggs. Definitely felt more "homestyle" than like a fancier breakfast. After a little bit though, it didn't taste as good cooled down (and the bread - a standard white bread - got soggy). The potatoes were good but overall the meal was very hearty and filling so I didn't finish them. Looks like they always put out their homemade red and green sauces on each table. They're made with Serrano peppers and tomatillo and are delicious! I especially liked the green sauce on the potatoes. The Azteca coffee is just as fun and good as it sounds. Coffee-y, chocolatey, cinnamon-y. It's thick and rich to be sipped on slowly.

Food was pretty good, just wish for a bigger portion. Their Cafe de Hoya was pretty good as well. Service was great and I enjoyed the art work they had displayed all over the restaurant. I would definitely stop by here again for breakfast!

Another place we recently went to for the second time in several years. We were in the neighborhood for packet pick up for a local race and we decided to give this place another shot. The decor is amazing. Everything was essentially amazing. It's such a cute place and sometimes there's a line going out the door because it's so crowded. Definitely go early!

The Molletes with eggs was tasty but light and great to start my day mmm. The waitress was so friendly and always checking if I needed anything . What I really appreciated was that we were talking about the Molletes and she asked if that was the first time trying it? I said yes she said they added a twist to the traditional Molletes and if I don't like it please tell her and she would get me something else. I love trying new things and this was absolutely delicious and service was amazing. The decor and ambiance well the pics tell it all! I was so relaxed and comfortable! Great experience will be back

Delicious! This place has some really good food. The theme is just wonderful! I love all the painting they have around the place! The food was amazing and delicious BUT the best part was the cafe de olla!! It's a must try. Our waitress was super nice like we've known each other for years!

Wow!!! I have been wanting a really good Mexican breakfast for quite sometimes now we actually park down the street. We're heading to one restaurant. The parking was bad so we walked all the way down to a different restaurant and accidentally discovered freed up place and what a discovery we made it is absolutely awesome, you will not be disappointed with anything on the menu and the servers and employees are the nicest people you want to get a bit crowded reservations are accepted. The space is a little small but cozy very clean and very well appointed in the art on the wall, definitely museum quality.

Service was great , the ambiance was inviting. The music made the mood more pleasant. The food was great.

I had the single cheeseburger and it lived up to the hype. I learned that the single burger is actually a double and the double is actually a triple. I was recommended to add an egg and bacon to the burger and I'm glad I did. Each bite was a glorious burst of flavor. The bacon is epic. Thick juicy slices. The cheeseburger was perfect. I didn't need additional condiments and that never happens for me. The fries were good too and came with a delicious aioli. For beverages, I loved my Arnold Palmer. I also tried a cocktail--the Long Island Iced Coffee. It was pretty strong. I added a shot of bourbon cream to it and that sweetened it up and made it perfect for me. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert. Cute restaurant. Cozy inside. They have an outdoor patio as well. If you don't have a reservation, be prepared to wait. Excellent food. Excellent service. Jennifer took great care of me and made great suggestions. It's pricy but it's worth it.

The process of getting seated through a busy period, and the service throughout was excellent. But as often happens with me, the food didn't live up to the hype. My wife and I were picking up my brother and his son from O'Hare at around 10 am on a Saturday. We had dinner plans with our uncle, but had not planned anything in between. The flight came in on time, and once confirmed we all had the time, my brother suggested going to Chicago to try Au Cheval. He knew about their location LV, but none of us had tried their original location in Chicago. So we drove into Chicago, arriving at the restaurant at 11 (it opens at 10am). There was a check-in stand set-up outside, where someone was taking names/phone numbers to put on the waiting list. We were quoted a 45 minute wait, and got the text to hurry back after about 30 minutes. There was a line to put your name down on the list, so we skipped that by going right in. The friendly hostess seated us in a booth, with a nice view of the kitchen where they were making the burgers in mass. The waitress explained that a single burger meant two patties (each patty is 4 oz, so basically a half pound burger), and a double meaning three. My brother and his son both ordered a double cheeseburger ($19.99 each), and I got a single with added sunny side up egg ($21.48). I wanted my wife to be able to take a bite, so asked for everything to be on the side (sauce, dill pickle slices, and grilled onion bits). We also ordered french fries ($8.99), cooked in duck fat. In the meanwhile, followed a fellow yelpers suggestion and got two Allagash Whites ($9 each) for me and my nephew. It's a really good beer that I've had many times during happy hour, and goes great with rich, greasy food. My wife got something else: the General Janes Chicken, which is their version of Korean Fried Chicken ($24.98). She enjoyed it (the coating was still crispy, and the sauce had that pronounced kochujang flavor that we like). Everything is a la carte here (except for the complementary pickle spear with burgers), so she shared in the ordered fries. Food came out together and was served hot. There is a mandatory 3.25% surcharge, and payment is taken at the table. As mentioned, service was excellent throughout. To be honest, I'm not the right person to judge a burger like this (I like it backyard style, with a lot of lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles...and mayo/ketchup). But my brother and nephew are (they have tried many, many burgers all across the world, and don't like too much toppings on their burger), and they said the burger was just OK for them. I liked the frites (cooked in duck fat)...very light in color, but still crispy on the outside. However, nobody else really ate them, saying they weren't great. It's unusual for me to be the least critical after dining, but I'm sure it had something to do with the observation that I didn't have to pay for it (since it was my brother's treat).

The food is absolutely amazing. We had the following dishes: 1. Roasted Pig Face Straw fries topped with roasted pork face, a sunny egg, and a collection of magical sauces that somehow transform into pure comfort when mixed together. I don't even know exactly what's in the sauce, but I don't need to know. This dish is divine and an absolute must-order. The crispy fries, rich and tender pork that practically melts apart, silky egg yolk, and savory sauce create a dish that is indulgent, comforting, and ridiculously delicious 2. Green Beans Not featured in the photo because we ate them too fast. Enough said. Get them. 3. Goat Mousse The menu changes periodically, so this was a new dish for us. The goat mousse was creamy, rich, and surprisingly light, served with sweet jam, crumpets, crackers, pickles, and giardiniera. The contrast of sweet, tangy, creamy, crunchy, and savory flavors creates a little flavor party in your mouth. Every bite can be customized differently, which made this dish especially fun to share. 4. Pork Belly & Watermelon Perfectly cooked pork belly with a crisp exterior and rich, savory flavor, balanced beautifully by refreshing watermelon cubes and fresh greens. I don't know how healthy it is, but we aren't here for health. We're here for flavor. We're here for comfort. We're here to be punched in the soul with food that we will never forget! The sweet, juicy watermelon cuts through the richness of the pork belly and creates a combination that sounds unusual but works incredibly well. 5. Halibut with Thai Sprouts A beautifully cooked piece of halibut served with Thai sprouts, miso marcona butter, and blueberry fish sauce. Yes, blueberry fish sauce. And yes, it works. The fish was flaky, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The savory umami from the miso butter paired with the subtle sweetness and acidity from the fish sauce created a combination that was balanced, and memorable yet surprising to me. The restaurant itself has a dark, energetic atmosphere and is always packed. The tables are definitely close together, but given how popular the restaurant is, I understand why they maximize the space. Absolutely recommend coming here. Your tummies won't regret it.

There is no bigger culprit than their 24 dollar goat empanadas. The chick peas plate as well was just one of the weirdest things I had ever eaten . Sev and chick peas is better in those snacks than on a plate as an overpriced gimmick of a dish but totally my fault for not doing more digging prior to ordering . The chicken plate had large amounts of fatty crust that I had to spit out mid bite but again it was ok in flavor and the accompanying sauce wasn't too bad but again nothing I'd ever want again . My favorite plate was the halibut . Good flavor ,good sauce and not trying to do too much . The fish was delicately cooked and buttery and was the best redeeming factor after the other three relative disappointments. Since this was our first time dining here (my son has been here many times), we took a bit of time trying to decide what to order. We decided to try the Smoked Ribs, Pike fish and chips, New England Lobster Roll and the Warm Parker House rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted the appetizers to come first - since we were sharing we said to bring it out whenever it's ready i.e. no specific order. The ribs and fish and chips entrees were the first to be served. We had also asked for some ice for the table. We waited quite a while before we inquired about the bread and the Lobster roll. Our waitress at this point had not come to check on us - it's about 15-20 minutes since our food arrived. She also forgot about our ice request (We never did get it!). The fish and chips were delicious - crispy on the outside and tender flaky fish on the inside. It was also not greasy and tasted delicious. The chips (fries) were also well done; howeveer, it was a bit on the salty side. None the less it was delicious. Took a while to get some ketchup and "tabasco" (they do not have tabasco but did have crystal hot sauce). The smoked ribs was excellent. Nice smoky flavor and meat was tender. Portions were very generous. As to our missing food order, she was apologetic and informed us that the Lobster roll was made in another kitchen and she had to go and check on it. Not sure what happened there but the rolls turned up really fast. The parkerhouse rolls, on the other hand, did not show up. We inquired again and she was surprised and said "You still want the bread?" and went ahead and placed the order. We surmised that she probably forgot about the order in the first place! The lobster roll was delicious. It came with chips not fries. The chips were also salty. The Parkerhouse rolls finally turned up with the black truffle honey & grass fed butter (5/5). The butter was sooo good - well worth the wait. We were rather stuffed by this time but managed to eat 2 of the 4 rolls! Took the other 2 home. The restaurant manager came over to our table and was very apologetic and informed us that she took care of our table as she felt that the service we received today did not reflect their usual level of service (My son also commented that he's never had poor service here). I appreciated this gesture and feel that restaurants should own up when they fail to provide the service expected at a reputable restaurant. For this reason, I did not ding them any stars. The food was really good and it was unfortunate we had subpar service when we visited. The restaurant was cozy - they have a few outside tables but we sat inside. There are booths as well as tables. The tables are a little closer and the seats are very comfortable. Would definitely come back and try other items on the menu next time we are in Chicago!

After coming back to the city almost a decade later, I knew I wanted to have a meal here. The best way to eat a meal here is to share all the dishes with friends. Sage Gimlet (5/5) - I started my meal with a refreshing sage gimlet that was a strong but well balanced cocktail. Roasted Bone Marrow (5/5) - I 100% would recommend getting this appetizer to start off the meal. The marrow was perfectly roasted and paired so well with the jam and salad. Roasted Beets (5/5) - If you love beets, get this salad. The flavors were so well balanced and I really liked the fried balls of goat cheese. Agnolotti (5/5) - This pasta was amazing!! The short rib and bone marrow with the fresh pasta still makes my mouth water. Scallops (5/5) - These scallops were perfectly cooked. The crispy prosciutto was a tad on the salty side. I honestly love the energy and the flavor bomb this restaurant packs. I can't wait until I'm back in the city and can dine here again.

Walking to the location, my friend and I discussed the various dishes we would like to try. In hindsight, I'm grateful for the walk because it helped make room for the dishes we would try. When we entered, we immediately were seated and greeted by Omar. His knowledge of the menu helped us focus on our dishes. We ended up ordering: squid ink chitarra, agnolotti, salt- roasted beets, pork belly, and gelato. Each dish was better than the next. The brown butter and red wine jus used for the agnolotti was addictive and the squid ink was delectable. Who knew salt- roasted beets could taste out of this world? Not me. We ended with a glass of limoncello and champagne to accompany our vanilla gelato. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
