I had them cater a house warming party and it was a hit! Food is great and everyone was raving about everything. Has some of the best fish tacos this side of the border and be sure to try out all of their salsas. I love the habanero, but all of them are equally good. Great variety for different tastes and even has a dish to accommodate my vegan wife. I have used their food truck, sometimes they serve right out of the truck, or set up tables outside the truck, and they also deliver. I was at Ballast Point for their first appearance there. I'm writing this review because I feel they are being unfairly judged on here. The wait times were completely justifiable when taking into account the massive drunken crowds stumbling in from their tour buses and limousines every hour. I'm not a very smart man but I figured out that A) The customers that ordered food and had their busses impatiently waiting to wreck havoc on their next brewery stop had their orders pushed to the front of the line and B) A tiny food truck kitchen was trying to keep up with dozens of orders that came in droves. I did not have an ounce of a problem waiting for my food since I happened to be drinking great beer on the patio on a beautiful day. Even if I was furious, I would have let it slip away after just one bite of their incredibly delicious grilled octopus taco... I have to go with 5 stars here and I can guarantee that for those that had a negative experience at Ballast Point, you will change your mind if you give them a second chance. read more

The flavor options for the tacos are fantastic. I was disappointed they didn't have the Marlin, but the octopus was fresh and had a great garlic flavor. The Shrimp taco was good, but it would have been better without the breading. I booked Frida's Cocina for my wedding and the food was SO good! Everyone loved it! They were on time, cleaned up really quick and left with no messes. Very friendly as well. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because there was supposed to be rice and beans included but we never got them, only the tacos were served. When I asked about it before the food truck left, I was told we were supposed to ask for the rice and beans, which is odd if they were supposed to be included with the meal service. There was also a lot of confusion regarding the payment and final total. As the bride, I really didn't want to be confused, I just wanted to pay and get on with my night. So that was a little frustrating... I'm still confused. But all in all, I would recommend Frida's Cocina, and several people at my wedding said they wanted to book them as well. Beef tacos were sooooo delicioso! Meat was a little on the salty side but otherwise very flavorful! I had a late lunch so wasn't as hungry when the food truck came by in the late afternoon. However, the taco portions are just the right size for a sensible snack. Chips and tomatillo salsa on the side were a perfect accompaniment. I tried this place a couple times. First when they were at Ballast Point and then at The Avenue in Pacific Beach. All I can say is WOW. Everything is authentic and even their tortillas are hand made! I love Mexican food and this is by far one of my favorite places to eat. There was a little wait while at Ballast Point, but what can you expect when everything is made fresh?! We hired Fridas Cocina for a school fundraiser event. They agreed to donate a percentage of their sales to our school. (which all other food vendors did) Sadly they decided not donate to our school after the event. They wouldn't return emails and when we called they had one excuse after another. We gave them plenty of time and opportunities to make it right and pay. If I would have known that they were not going to donate money back to our school and kids, I would have used another vendor. A little background: I don't eat fast food. I don't buy fish or meat at normal markets. I am not easily pleased. Mexican food is not my favorite. Now...I have seen this Food Truck parked in the north-east corner of Palm & Plaza Blvd for weeks. I go by this area a bit before noon as I deliver food as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. The truck is very colorful and cheerful. They have a few signs that can easily be seen from the distance. The ones that caught my eye read: "Hand Made Tortillas" and "Best Fish Tacos." After months of seeing this food truck, I finally decided to give it a try today, February 25th 2014, after my deliveries. I've had MANY fish tacos in my life time, but NEVER have I tried such delicious tacos as the ones from Frida's. OMG! Don't take my word for it, go and try them yourself. The hand made tortillas are to die for. And believe me, I have tried hand made tortillas in many places, including Baja with not much good to say about them. At Frida's Cocina, all the ingredients are as fresh as they can possibly be, and made to your individual order as you wait. We were even treated with a complementary fish caldo/soup. The menu is not too extensive or complicated. I can't remember much of it, to tell you the truth, because all I wanted to know is that they had fish tacos. But I heard people asking for Birria, Carne Asada etc. I foresee a great future for the owners of Frida's Cocina, as food trucks or a set restaurant. Incredible food!!! The Baja Shrimp tacos were amazing!!! The food all taste very fresh and the service was great. The batter on the shrimp is light and flaky while not greasy and the quality of the shrimp and fish seem to be very fresh. I would defined recommend them to anyone catering an event. read more

We hired Frida's Cocina to be our food truck at my daughter's wedding in April 2017. This is by far the nicest, most accommodating staff I have encountered. Truly a class act and the food is amazing. Very reasonable prices. They are the only food truck I found that set up and personally served the guest via a banquet table. Reviewing for their (apparently first) time at Ballast Point. Menu looked good, ordered 2 tacos and some empanadas. 35 minutes later they call up my name for the plate. Turns out it's the wrong order, they said they'll get right on it. 15 minutes after that I just asked for a refund. They at least gave me cash back to make it easy, instead of a refund on my card. I can't speak to the food as I never got it. After waiting over 25 minutes for vegetarian tacos ($10 vegetarian tacos!) I gave up. Several other people who were waiting did as well. I wouldn't have minded the wait if they were busy, but they were the least busy truck at the event yet still took much longer than even the busiest. Attended a corporate Cinco de Mayo event for 250 people -- Frida's Cocina Food Truck was the only vendor. They served beef, chicken and/or fish tacos. They ran out of beef half-way through service. They also ran out of guacamole too. Ran out of the expensive ingredients. Heard the beef was great. Chicken lacked flavor. Fish was quite good. They were totally understaffed in the service department -- people waited in line for an average of 30 minutes or more to get served. They didn't have a person to refill chips and napkins (kept running out). Seemed very inexperienced (maybe we got the B Team). Food was good but I don't think they are equipped to scale well above 100 people. Lots of disappointed people... read more
