I have to admit that I had never had fried green tomatoes before we went here but...I can't wait to have them again! They were so good-I don't know why I never tried them before. We only ended up here because there was a wait at another restaurant but I think it was a truly lucky situation. The food was amazing-we had a variety of dishes including lasagna, a wrap and a flatbread. Everyone was happy with their dishes and the bread was absolutely incredible. Our server Stephanie was professional and readily available without being right at your elbow the whole time. The one thing we all noticed and loved was that there was enough staffing! We made an early reservation here for a Saturday night. Great service. Here's what we had. Fried green tomato - very yummy and crispy but we didn't finish the app and it didn't heat up well at home. There's 4 generous tomatoes. Lamb lollipops - uneven cook but nice char. Tasty. Potatoes were nothing special. Corn was a nice addition. Risotto - this was our favorite. Simple, delicious, well seasoned. Shrimp ravioli - shrimp were cooked perfectly, nice sauce, ravioli was yummy. It comes with side salad and bread and olive oil and we were stuffed. Filet, filet, filet! This review is strictly about the filet with shrimp. I'll just get right to the meat of this review. My 6 oz filet was cooked to perfection, medium, as instructed. It had a nice char sear to it, complete with grill marks. The tenderness was as it should be for filet mignon. I've had my fair share of pricey filets and this one ranks up there with the top 5. Ruth' Chris is near the bottom, for reference. Though the menu didn't specify if it was aged at all, the tenderness was like butter. As for seasoning, a steak of this caliber should stand on its own with minimal salt grind and I believe this does. The grill sear will seal it up with its own juices and capture its natural flavors. As for the shrimp, it was grilled just as nicely with the proper tenderness and texture. No rubber here! It comes tail-on, so they provide the proper shrimp fork for full extraction. And lemon provided for zest. The service was exceptional. Pleasant demeanor; not overly perky and not pushy for dessert. As stated, this review was for filet and shrimp and I've read some reviews of past service miscues and food missteps, so I hope this review clears up anyone thinking of trying FGT for dinner. Came here for an anniversary after reading a lot of recommendations and it did not disappoint! The whole experience was wonderful and their whole staff made it even better from the person who greeted us at the door, to our wonderful waiter, the bus staff, and the other wait staff as we left. It is clear they like working there and with each other. Food was top notch-- my husband's steak was cooked perfectly and my pasta was delicious. When you walk in, the host and all staff is very friendly. Our reservations have always been right on time, which I really appreciate. I enjoy having cocktails at the bar if we arrive early. They have a fun cocktail menu, and bartenders who can make anything you like. At the table, everyone receives delicious Parmesan bread with oil for dipping and a fabulous house salad. The salad is a fresh spring mix with tomatoes, onion, olives, croutons, a delicious raspberry dressing, topped with unique sweet drop peppers. The perfect way to start a meal! I also love starting my meal with the beef carpaccio appetizer. They do this dish really well and it isn't something that you can get at many other places in the area. My favorite entree is the spicy seafood pasta. The seafood is perfectly cooked and served with fresh cooked peppers in a spicy olive oil sauce. It is even served with a little lobster tail topper! I get cravings for this dish. It is phenomenal. I also love the espresso rubbed fillet. The espresso gives the steak a nice flavorful crust. Most of the time I don't have enjoy room for desert, but when I do the creme brûlée is wonderful! And comes in a good sized portion. The pricing on everything they offer is pretty reasonable. This is a very popular restaurant; so popular that they moved it from a small cottage on the outskirts of town into this expansive space on Main Street. They serve Tuscan-inspired Italian food, and it's pretty high quality. We all had pasta entrees that we were reasonably satisfied with; I had Veal Parmasean, which was good but not mind-blowing. You know what was mind blowing! My Steak Martini! It's this large martini glass filled with steak chunks, mashed potatoes, blue cheese crumbles, crunchy thingies, and a beefy wine sauce. It was awesome! Get that as an appetizer! Do it do it! Our server was really professional. Everything came to us quickly, and I also observed other tables having complications handled very well by this crew. So, really good service here. I think if you're spending some time in Galena, you should make a point to have a meal here. I would rate it higher if I thought the quality of the entrees matched the price, but I'm still confident you'll leave here satisfied. read more

The food is good, we ate there a few years ago and enjoyed it. In Sept 2021, we decided we needed to getaway again after three or four years of not being able to, so we got a hotel, took the 2 hr drive, and planned our evening around eating here. We arrived within their posted hours, and were told that since it had been 20 minutes since anyone came in, they decided to close their kitchen and wouldn't seat us. The place was busy, at least 20-35 guests inside, so there was no way they were closing up soon. Since they had just seated the last table 20 minutes ago, I'm guessing it had only been 10 minutes since they put their orders into the kitchen, so everything was still hot and not clean yet. I told him I'd just spent 30 minutes looking at their menu online and already knew what we wanted to order, and we would eat fast. We were planning on spending about $120 plus a 50% tip. We left, I cried because we'd planned our whole trip around this and I was already salivating for the food I'd picked out (I'm autistic, it takes me a little while and lots of feelings to deal with changes in plans)... but then, we ended up going to the only other dinner place open on Tuesdays, Vinny Vanucchi's (www.vinnysgalena.com), and they treated us very well, served excellent food for half the price, and we are happy we ended up there instead. I tipped $40 on a $60 bill and left feeling great, with leftovers for the trip home. My recommendation - just plan to go to Vinny's instead! read more

The one negative I would say is they are very quick to try to take your plates, which I understand they want to get them back in the kitchen and helps to turn the table over. We went with family on the 4th of July during the pandemic so we were very conscious of being safe and socially distant. Parking is difficult to find if you don't want to pay the $10 parking fee. At this time they have seating out front under a tent and out back also under a tent. We choose in the back because there was no one there and we want to avoid as many people as possible. It was very comfortable but if it had one downside it would be the art on the wall was a little inappropriate for our daughter, as it was a bare breasted female I get it is art but she found it very awkward and we felt bad for her. The staff all had face masks on for our safety which we appreciated, they were all very attentive and took care of every request we had. One person at the table ordered a cocktail and it was delicious, fresh and perfectly balanced. The menu is pretty limited but we all found something to order. They also have a children's menu if you should happen to need it. We ordered 2 appetizers one was their fried green tomatoes and one was the pesto bruschetta which were served in a timely manner and they were both delicious. Our server kept the meal flowing nicely which made for a very nice experience, as we finished our appetizers he brought out a piping hot loaf of bread and our salads. The salads were a very nice mix of greens with tomato wedges, cucumber slices, black olives and topped with a house dressing. As we finished our salad he cleaned off those plates and brought out our entrées. The entrées were delicious and were served hot had fresh. We ordered 3 orders of the Garlic Spinach Tortellini and one order of Chicken Marsala. The overall experience was very good and I recommend trying it. read more

Make sure to check in when you're here, French silk dessert wasn't amazing, but it was free and the perfect cold thing to eat on a hot night. So even on a weekday they were getting packed. Service was attentive and incredible. They gave bottled water. Brought out home made fresh bread with Parmesan on top, in house made original olive oil which you can buy, with a delicious salad with tasty crispy croutons. Got good recommendations from waiter like the pork ribeye, Tortellini, lobster ravioli and meatloaf. We chose the pork osso bucco which was huge in portion size meat fell off the bone, mashed potatoes which tasted buttery smooth and hand made, risotto was creamy and worth every morsel and calorie. Broccolini added a needed crunch and vegetable. The lobster ravioli was generous with chunks of lobster as well. We got dessert too because everything was so tasty. Would say this place was recommended by every store in town in all the places we went to and the place we stayed at. It's very well known. Only recommendation I would have is to have a variety of coffees to enjoy dessert with. Salad dressing was a little sweet but still tasty. Honestly very decently priced compared with what you would get in the city where it could easily be charged twice for this kind of quality and service. It's not quite fine dining because the portions are satisfying however sure tastes above and beyond. I told the waiter kudos to the chef and I overtipped because everything was so satisfying and perfect. For weekends you definitely need a reservation. They open at 4pm. They are closed Mondays. Our evening started off on the right foot when our hostess greeted me by name when we walked in. We had been in earlier during the lunch hour to make our reservation with the same person; that was a nice touch. We were immediately seated and greeted by our server who did an excellent job all evening to take good care of us. We started with the crab cakes which were spot on. Meaty, with the right amount of breading and lightly fried; crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside with almost a creamy interior texture. Served with a flavorful remoulade and lemon wedge in a bed of micro greens, this was an excellent start to our meal. This was followed by a house salad with mixed field greens, tomato, cucumber, red onion and croutons drizzled with a raspberry balsamic vinaigrette. Quite nice. We all chose the same entree based on our fellow yelpers reviews, the pork osso buco served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and was not dry in any way. We all agreed it could have been a little better seasoned, but adding bits of the fresh sprig of rosemary really enhanced the overall flavor. A nice side of a hot green vegetable would have been great to help cut through the richness of this dish. It was an option to add a la carte but just a suggestion to just put it on the entree as standard fare. The ambiance is nice for a fine dining experience but not stuffy. Lighting is excellent; dark enough for mood lighting but bright enough to see what's going on. The noise level was suitable to not feel you are eating alone but not so loud as to hinder the table conversation. Overall a very pleasant dining experience. read more

We enjoyed a wonderful meal at Fried Green Tomato on a Wednesday evening. We made reservations for 5:30 and there was seating on the patio available. We were glad we were seated there after walking through a somewhat noisy bar/restaurant area. It was Wine Wednesday so we enjoyed a glass of wine for $5/ glass. Two people in our group had lasagna and two others had meatloaf. Both were excellent but the meatloaf was the best my meatloaf loving husband ever had! I enjoyed the chicken piccata served with asparagus. The bread was served with olive oil and warmed with Parmesan cheese on top. The salad was delicious with just the right amount of raspberries dressing. We will definitely eat here again when we visit Galena. read more

The problem was the portions. We were all done eating in 5 minutes. Four scallops as an entree is a small portion. Period. Four ravioli on a plate is a small portion. Period. If you want to charge $15-$20 for those, that makes sense. It's a good thing they have a nice selection of appetizers and deserts, so you can get a full meal. The wine list is good, but the pricing is variable. Some bottles are 2X retail and some and over 3X retail. Study up. Overall, a nice place to have dinner. Glad we did. My husband and I had such a great dinner experience here while visiting Galena! Highly recommend booking reservations well in advance, since this is an extremely popular restaurant for the area. But it's worth it! We really liked their covered outdoor patio. It's basically a big tent with nice lighting and artwork. Nothing too fancy, served in a bed of tomato sauce and cheese if you want it. It reminded me a lot of eggplant Parmesan, but crunchier with the tomatoes. I ordered the chicken piccata and my husband got the chicken Marsala. We both really enjoyed our dishes and both were an appropriate serving amount. I personally loved the piccata sauce with the artichoke hearts. I requested mashed potatoes instead of roasted potatoes and the mashed potatoes were so fluffy and creamy. Really flavorful, good meal. We both felt really happy and full when we left, which is exactly how you want to leave a restaurant.
