We went here to celebrate a special occasion . Cute and quaint choice when in Geneva, IL. Service was good. Food solidly good. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were good if you like eggplant parmigiana ( they were deep fried and covered in a red sauce and melted cheese). Good but not my favorite preparation for fried green tomatoes. We split a 20 oz porterhouse steak which was very good. All meals served with a decadent bread and a side salad. Husband also had a cup of the loaded sweet potato soup which was very good. We ordered a side of scallops for 16$ which were 2 minuscule scallops on a plate ( I literally laughed out loud when I saw them as total rip off for 16$!!) . They were quite good though. Fried Green Tomatoes seems like one of the few restaurants in Galena that are more elevated and expensive (and yet there's no dress code). Our appetizers were (the most obvious choice) fried green tomatoes and the sweet chilli shrimp. A solid pairing of heavy and light. They made their fried green tomatoes much like an eggplant Parmesan: lots of sauce snd covered in cheese. I'm not complaining because it was delicious, but that's a heavy dish. The entrees we ordered were both seafood but our server did tell us to come back to try their meats (bone in pork chop and filet mignon). The shrimp and scallop ravioli had a sauce that worked really well. The salmon was cooked to perfection. *** Most entrees automatically come with their house salad and bread. The bread is homemade with a crunchy crust and soft insides. AND IT'S WARM! Their house dressing is a berry balsamic and it was also delicious! Their tiramisu was sprinkled with chocolate powder that really intensified that coffee taste- so good! Our server Taylor was lovely and spaced out the courses so we didn't feel rushed. Parking in this area can be a little chaotic. Account for some time to find parking. The space here is great and the service was very wonderful. We had a large group and had no issue with service. Overall the food was really great. A few notes from the table... The steak was a home run! The fried green tomatoes were underwhelming which might be because it's not tomato season. Just a little disappointing for the restaurants name sake. All the pasta was delish! Overall a little pricey for the portion size and I would recommend getting apps or a dessert to leave full. By 4:30, their floors were already packed with people having conversations and, undoubtedly, a wonderful time. I have been to this restaurant four times now. Each time they never disappoint. This restaurant is a heart of downtown Galena and parking can be a bit difficult. The Belvidere pomegranate martini was good. The ambience has a 1950s feel and very nice. The bar area is ample and we were sat true to our reservation time. This time I tried their infamous fried green tomatoes as an appetizer that tasted like eggplant Parmesan but very good. The 4 tomatoes are covered with mozzarella cheese and cooked perfectly. The spinach and garlic tortellini with pesto sauce with chicken added was fantastic and enough for two people as they also provide a house salad with raspberry vinaigrette. This place is overhyped, over priced, and honestly not worth it if you're in town for a few days. We had reservations made for Monday evening. We came in and were sat immediately, which was great. However, nobody came to our table or acknowledged us for 10 minutes. The server was then genuinely surprised we were ready to order. Our bottle of wine came quickly, our salads were quick, however bread was served right before our meal. When meals came, my husband's steak was very overcooked. They took his steak to show the manager and offered to remake it, however food service wasn't quick and I had already started eating mine so we opted to share my warm meal together instead of extending the process. They agreed to let us share my meal and removed the overcooked steak from our bill. (However brought the steak back to our table and left it sitting there, which was odd). They did also offer us free dessert, which was nice. They were willing to correct their mistakes, but did seem to make quite a bit. Our bottle of wine was fantastic and they poured it into a decanter, which is a nice touch. I had ordered the Jack Daniels Ribeye which became a shared meal. The steak was cooked well however it wasn't necessarily the best quality of meat. The glaze and potatoes were okay. The table we were sat at was 1/2 booth 1/2 table. Which felt cheap, and unfortunate seating considering our reservation was made 10 days in advance. The lighting was bright even though the decorating implied it should be dark. I see other reviews mentioning food poisoning from here. I also had VERY BAD food poisoning after dining here but was unable to pinpoint it to anything specific. read more

We really enjoyed our stop here for dinner last night. We started with the namesake Fried Green Tomatoes and boy were they good! Melted cheese on each and the tasty marina sauce made them melt in your mouth. For our meal, I ordered the Steak Martini (see picture) and was impressed with the presentation and taste. Mashed potatoes in the bottom of the martini glass, topped with gravy and chunks of steak - tasted great and left room to order dessert. My wife ordered the Seafood Aglio (see picture) and loved the spicy kick. For dessert, we shared a piece of Tiramisu (see picture) and all of us thought it was delicious - we even converted a friend who hasn't had it before and loved it! This was one of my wife's restaurants to visit in Galena. We were greeted kindly by the host at the door and although we didn't have reservations, he seated us at a great table. Our waitress Regina was so friendly and sweet. We started with drinks, a beer for my wife and a delicious Blackberry Mojito for me. We also tried for the very first time Fried Green Tomatoes. followed by crab cakes salad and Seafood Pasta Aglio filled with shrimps, lobster, and scallops. Fresh baked bread with parmesan and oil for topping. The Restaurant was clean and very beautifully decorated, and the staff was great, the food and drinks were incredibly good. We did a rehearsal dinner here with 25 or so people. They gave us a nice little alcove and 2 servers. Really nice, well priced drink menu. Fantastic Martinis. Everyone enjoyed their entrees, not a complaint to be heard. Menu is well thought out and pretty extensive. You have to try the Fried Green Tomatoes, they are a must.
