Omgosh, NO, thank you, my daughter and I went in today for a walk-in because it had good reviews and not too far away. My cut that i wanted: medium shag with a lot of texture. My daughter has curly hair and wanted a shorter cut with longer on top for curls. We did not get either. My hair cut; when asked for the length I showed her, but instead of marking and then verifying before she cut...she cut before verifying and cut too much, by a good inch. Also, when i got home i noticed that not only did she cut it too short but the rest of the hair its all done in obvious separate lengths. Nothing is blended or even. I could do a better job at home with utility scissors. I dont wven think she knows what shes doing. I knew that i should have walked out when i saw how much she had cut initially. As for my daughter...the woman who did hers evidently gave her a "boy" cut because it is OBVIOUSLY way shorter than the picture, and when my daughter gave her input she said that the hairdresser said was "the back has to be shorter." Have you ever had a bad haircut/do' that made you feel horrified and yes, probably "ugly"? I know I have and now so does my daughter because that's all she said on the drive home. Hair grows, and lessons are learned. Finding the "right" hairdresser is an intimate job and requires trust and the ability to listen and understand each other. Which we didnt feel here This isn't the first "bad" cut we've received, but for my daughter, it's definitely the worst. Edit: no, it's a worst cut by both of us. They did refund the $$ for her cut and did look remorseful, but giving me an excuse for ignoring personal input doesnt help. Edit: i want a FULL refund after seeing what they did to my hair. I do NOT recommend this "salon" the females who did our hair were older females with longer brown hair (Auburn) not the younger woman with black hair. Absolutely the worst! Edit: no full refund. They send to come back, but no thanks. If they can't take simple directions and hut my hair at least straight then no way am I ever going back. read more

Great experience at Friendly Hair Salon! I had waist-long hair and was ready for a significant cut to take off the literal (and figurative) weight. Called today (a Monday) and was able to get in later this afternoon. The stylist Phi Phi and I talked through the plan, and agreed to have her cut about 12" off and add soft layers near the ends. Turned out beautifully! It was $65 for a wash, cut, and style for my long hair. Very happy with the results, and will certainly be back! read more

Phi Phi saved my hair and my confidence! I'm really picky with my hair, and Phi Phi does such an amazing job at an affordable price. I've gotten my hair done in San Francisco and LA, so I know good work when I see it. Before I found Phi Phi, I had a terrible experience at a different salon in Irvine that left me needing about a year and a half to grow my hair back. I really needed to find a good hairstylist who could cut my hair so I could go back to feeling confident and good about myself. Phi Phi did exactly that without breaking the bank. I like my hair with good layering so that when I use my Dyson to blow-dry, it looks amazing. She nails it every time. My advice: be specific about what you want when you get to the salon, and she'll deliver. I'm really thankful I found her - she's a gem! read more

Thanks to Yelp reviews I think I found my new go-to salon. Came in for a cut and left very happy with the result. Made an appointment for 2pm and was taken about 10 minutes later after Phi Phi finished with another cut before me. I had just washed my hair the night before so didn't need a wash. I told her I wanted to keep the length as much as possible and add in some long layers. She agreed that it would give my hair more body and was very clear and how much she was going to take off. She asked if I wanted to blow dry my hair afterwards and I said sure. After the cut, she dried and styled my hair giving it some nice curls at the ends, which I really liked. I normally am just a wash-and-go girl (throwing in a little styling product just to give my somewhat wavy hair some direction). I loved the way my hair looked after she was done. I checked out the back in the mirror when she was finished and I really liked how much lighter and fuller my hair looked with the layers. Phi Phi was very sweet and I appreciated not being up-sold while on the chair (the last place I went to I had been pitched on highlights, then dye, then eyebrows, then manicure... it was exhausting). It's nice to come in for a haircut and get just that, and a good one at that! Total was $50 and I left $10 tip. I will definitely be back for my next cut and will probably bring my son as well (Phi Phi has finished cutting two young boys' hair before me and I thought they came out well). read more

I have a very fine Asian hair so when I moved up here from San Diego, I was searching everywhere for a hair salon. Someone on next-door recommended this hair salon and I absolutely love me hair. There is plenty of parking and the salon is very clean and welcoming. I called on Monday and Phi phi was able to fit me in. They do take walk-ins on certain days as well. Phi phi did my hair and she asked me all the questions and I told her I definitely trust her. Also if she recommends anything. She shampooed and conditioned my hair and cut off all my dead ends and blow dried it. My hair feels amazing! I love it! read more

I have to express Helene gave me THE WORST haircut in my entire Life. I showed her 2 pictures which represent how I wanted my hair cut... I would even say trimmed. She said that she understood and with multiple references to how I wanted my hair cut. She still failed to listen to me( the customer). And said after she cut my hair the way she wanted to; that "She Forgot" WTF. I would not recommend this place at all, if I can give a zero rating I would. Horrible experience. I should have asked for my money back! read more

Update 10/18/22 After all these years, I still highly recommend Phi Phi! My a-line lob from my last haircut in February has overgrown into a shapeless and uneven pattern. I was sporting that for long enough. Phi Phi was able to fit me in last minute today before closing. 30 minutes in Phi Phi's chair and voila! The results speak for themselves. I have been going here for over three years! I trust Phi with my life. I have very fine Asian hair and before I had never found a place that cut my hair just right. Phi is also the only person I have ever let color my hair, she has so much knowledge and care for what shes doing. You know when you find a place and want to keep it to yourself? This is that hair salon. I usually have long hair down to my mid-back and need a periodic big trim, with long layers. Simple, no fuss or shampoo. But I was having trouble finding a place in OC that did no fuss Asian hair for reasonable prices, because everyone and their mother overcharged for simple cuts even though they made plenty of money on the dye jobs and perms. I digress. They gave me a just-below the shoulder cut with long layers, as requested, and I loved it. After 3 years of dealing with mediocre cuts for high prices (looking at you Bishop's; $55 for a choppy-ass job?!), I finally found the one. I was charged $35 bucks and gave my salonist a $10 cuz she was aaaaaawesome. read more

I just had my hair done by Phi Phi and I can not be happier with both cut and color, and overall experience. Phi Phi is very professional, friendly, and most important, he listened to what I wanted. She gives you very honest opinion about the style you choose and gives professional suggestion regarding the hair color too. My haircut and highlight looked exactly like I asked her to do it. Great salon, very clean and friendly staff. All wear mask. I saw the sign on the mirror" I was vaccinated" They were sanitizing between customers. Prices did not change after Covid. Ive gone to this place annually for about 4 years now. I usually go right before the lunar new year and the lady who cuts my hair is really nice. She's also quiet so I like her a lot. I don't remember how much my haircuts were in the past but I think they were $35. Today I opted for shampoo and the head massage was AMAZING hence I'm finally writing a review. I didn't realize shampoo came with a head message. I was wondering why it took like 10 minutes to wash my hair. Haha! Today my haircut was $45 so maybe the wash and massage was $10? Anyways, it was totally worth it. I wished it was longer. Haha. I would have given this place 4 stars because I don't do anything fancy with my hair. My hair is pretty easy. It's long, straight, and not too thin or too thick. I just get a trim and layer my hair and the price is average. It's not not cheap which I was used to when I lived LA. But the 5 star is because I've always had a great experience. The lady is pretty thorough. She keeps double checking to make sure she doesn't miss anything. She never rushes and takes her time. And of course the head message was amazing! read more

I tried this salon based on the good reviews. Should have paid more attention to the bad reviews instead. The older lady who cut my hair sure seemed friendly but don't let her smile fool you. It is merely to mask her inability to communicate with you. She nods in agreement when you show her a picture of the cut you like and as you try to explain in detail, but she truly has no idea what you just said. And worse, she DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO CUT HAIR PROPERLY. I simply wanted a a bob with side swept bangs and walked out of there looking like Lord Farquaad. @Phil K -- There was no attempt to rectify anything. You suggested using hair product to make the bangs sweep to the side. Ridiculous! Oh well, lesson learned. FAIR WARNING to those wanting to shorten their hair, find another salon! read more

Phi Phi did my hair and it came out to $40 since I had long hair (which is $10-$30 cheaper than most places in this area)! She cut perfect curtain bangs and layers. I've been to Friendly Hair Salon three times now -- twice for hair cuts and once for manicure and a pedicure -- and I have loved it! Phi Phi is amazing with hair. The first time I came in, my hair was past my waist and was in desperate need of a cut. I was trying to grow it out to donate and didn't want to do anything too crazy with it. Phi Phi cut and layered it in the most beautiful way. The second time around, my hair was shorter and Phi Phi still worked her magic, giving me a V-shaped cut with long layers. Haircuts start at $20 but can be more depending on the length of your hair. Expect to pay at least $25. The one time I got my nails done here, I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure. It took a bit longer than it would have at other places, but the manicure and pedicure lasted much longer than I expected. I will definitely be back to Friendly Hair Salon for my hair and nail needs! read more

Great haircuts at a great price! I found this place through Yelp quite some time ago, and keep coming back. I've never gotten anything fancy done here -- just a cut and a shampoo. (I also don't do anything super adventurous with my hair since it takes FOREVER to grow.) I'm usually able to get an appointment same-day, which I appreciate. They're located between Tustin and Irvine--pretty central in Orange County. If you're looking for a good haircut at a reasonable price, stop in! 2018: 95/100 read more

I only came in because online price for a spa mani/pedi said $35. They need to UPDATR their price because I was charged $43 for a bad job. Also not many color options. People are nice and not busy. They are definitely more of a hair salon than a nail salon. read more

So glad I found this place on Yelp. Not only is it close to work, but here are other reasons for my stars: Phone call beforehand - man was so friendly on the phone. Called twice, once to set up appointment, then later to confirm they accept card. Location - corner of Edinger and Red Hill. Enough parking, newer building. Service - was there for spa pedicure and was helped by Lindsay. Came straight from work and she could sense my tiredness and let me relax for the first half. Chairs have massages, much needed. Owner Phiphi is also so friendly. Price - $20 for spa pedicure is a steal for this area. She did well with the cleaning. Tip - I saw a lot of pics on hair and it's enticing me to come back for a possible do... We shall see. I'd recommend calling to make an appointment as prices are very reasonable. read more

Love it!! I've always been really picky about my hair cuts, and my stylist of 7 years passed from cancer. I was DREADING finding another stylist, and after a few misses, I'm SO GLAD I found Friendly Hair Salon! My artist Hanh and I had some language barrier issues, but another woman (who seemed like the owner) was able to interpret. I got vibrant red highlights and an awesome layered hair cut for only $120! This is honestly the best hair cut I've had (and I'm not just saying that because I cut my own hair for a year!) Normally after getting my hair professionally cut, I obsess over it wondering if the layers are even, etc, but this was perfect! Normally you need to pick two: good cut, good color, or good price. It's my second time here! I came in knowing vaguely what I wanted (Some sort of lighter brown with bangs since I had black hair with no bangs lol). We chatted and then I simply trusted the process. She ended up giving me curtain bangs that can also be a little wispy also, and cut my hair to a length that looked soooo good. There was so much attention to detail when she was cutting too. It was great. For the color, she said that a lighter color might not actually look the best on me and a subtle brown might be better! I was pretty down for whatever she thought looked good so I trusted the process again. Let me tell you... this subtle brown looked so good with the cut. Also, my hair? Soft as HECK. It was kinda gritty before so I was shook when I touched my hair after the appt. She chatted with me lots and also gave me space too. It was a great balance and also she answered my questions!! I always have so many questions and she answered them all for me!! Including... how to style my hair because I suck at those things. I'll take any advice and tips I can get. Price is reasonable for OC too! TLDR; I walked in with messy hair that made me look dead inside and walked out with softer dyed hair AND styling knowledge. If that isn't a win, I don't know what is.

Her technique is also a true balayage that blends seamlessly and gives hair wonderful dimension, and I'm impressed by her ability to lighten hair in one setting then toning to get Asian hair to a more ashy, cool-toned since Asian black-brown hair tends to pull red/orangey by nature. You can see her work on instagram @hair_by_na_na She uses super quality products too like schwarzkopf and olaplex. I left with my hair feeling really soft and healthy despite the bleaching. I also like hearing from stylists what they recommend as maintenance. She was very thorough and detailed with her aftercare tips! - No shampooing for 3 days (she said water only is ok - not too cold or hot). This allows the cuticles to close while the color is getting deposited into your hair. - Start using a purple shampoo in 3 weeks to help keep brassiness at bay. - Use sulfate-free colored hair friendly shampoo/conditioner like Pureology. - Use something like Olaplex or K18 to keep hair strong and healthy. - In 2 months, come back for toning to refresh color. My balayage and cut took about 4.5 hours. Nana and Sean work together with the foiling and painting so it speeds things up. She provided a Fiji water and there's a little basket of snacks there too that you can munch on while she does her thing.
