Found him through Yelp and then messaged him on Instagram, and finally made my appointment. I loved all the work on his Instagram page and knew I was in good hands. I've been growing out a buzzcut. Which feels like it's taken forever lol I'm currently at a pixie length and have been feeling like my hair needed some layers, texture and some TLC. I was basically rocking a helmet head hahaha I went to Justin and told him my hair goals of texture and irregular razored bangs. It took me the longest time to find the right inspiration photo to portray what I was envisioning. I showed Justin the photo and he told me my hair was shorter than hers, but he could get close. This week I decided to get a haircut before an important trip, terrible decision! I was happy with my hairstyle when I walked in, the length just needed trimming but the shape is fine. Without even looking at my hairstyle, she asked me to get shampoo'ed so I thought maybe she remembers how I like my hair cut. During the haircut, she asked me if I wanted to cut my bangs and I said just a little bit because I like my bangs long (like almost touching my eyes)...she took the scissors and cut the bangs straight across and short (above my eyebrows after blow drying!). When I went home to wash my hair, blow dry and flat iron (my usual hair routine), I noticed how much of a bowl haircut style bang I had...I wanted to cry. I called her back and asked to see if she can help me fix the bangs and the hair around my face so I don't look so strange...she thinned out the bangs slightly but my right side bang is slightly longer than my left side (like a slant). And even after "fixing", my hair length is still uneven. She told me that I need to tell her I want "curtain bangs" next time...I don't know the technical terms but I am pretty sure my bangs originally were not straight across so why would she cut it that way... Gosh, I wish I never went to get a haircut this week...I look 10 years older due to the bad hairstyle. I have to wait for my hair to sloooowly grow back to fix it...not coming back anymore!

He tends to pick very flattering, naturalish looks (vs. some other places I've been that are more trend-oriented), but at this point as a natural dark brunette, I've come out with a variety of different brown balayage options, a pretty reddish brown, and an almost black color, and all have looked very healthy and pretty. I like that he's able to give me some variety without damaging it and without suggesting anything that would look bad on me. I have a little gray spot and he does a great job blending it with the highlights so that I don't have to do permanent color. Vibe is very casual and the prices are inexpensive for the area. He is a very honest businessman and will tell you up front if he doesn't think a look is going to be feasible. One time I wanted to go lighter and he lifted the color for a bit, tested it and showed me, went a little longer with no change and let me know that was my limit so that I wouldn't get breakage. He's very professional in conversation topics, keeping it friendly but without anything stressful. I feel safe and comfortable coming here. His prices are fair and I always love my cut (and the experience is usually pretty quick). He's also super chill to talk to during the cut. I had a pretty traumatic haircut experience prior to meeting Richard where the lady chopped my hair way, way shorter than I asked because she said it was "healthier" for it. I came to Richard apprehensive because of this experience but he always cuts the hair a little longer for me and adjusts as we go, which I really appreciate. I've also had him color my hair a few times as well. Both of these experiences were positive and while I'm back to my natural color again, if I ever decided to go dark again, I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to Richard. I would definitely recommend him if you're looking for a stylist and always send any friends looking for a haircut to him as well! PS.
