The wings... oh... my... god... the wings are perfect in every way from the slightly sweet house made Buffalo to the crunchy outside through the meaty inside, i wanted a side of delicious wings and this place delivered! That being said the service was slow and not entirely welcoming on entry, the food came out slowly and the order was taken inefficiently. The main entree certainly wasn't bad but wasn't a burger I'd write home about, unless I liked writing about things that weren't bad nor all together great. If I had only eaten wings here I could have easily given this establishment four stars, but the slow services, slightly expensive wings and let down of an entree put me in a position where I really can't recommend trying this place. read more

Hell yes, crinkle fries up in here! Got the cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly. The bun to burger ratio is not perfect, and you have to eat quick, because the bun will melt into the burger patty. This dive/hole in a wall offers a great lunch getaway. read more

I have to admit....the 2nd-to-last time I was in here, the smoking ban hadn't even been brought up in OH....& this place must've had a beacon on it calling every smoker in town. Nothing against smokers, but when I decided enough years had gone by to pay it a visit...all I could smell was the old cigarette smoke, seared into the walls. And, unless it's the season to be sitting on the deck, plan on being in crammed quarters. When I was a senior in high school, this was the place for my friends & I to go for lunch....we were also more focused on the cheap prices, than anything.....so I call this a case of "growing up & growing out." Good cheap food was what I was looking for, actually had a burger in mind....but when meatloaf is on the menu (with a big star next to it, no less) I just can't pass it up. For $6.50, you get a big plate, half hidden by a huge slab of gravy-covered meatloaf, the other half filled with mashed potatoes (and more gravy of course), as well as a slice of bread and butter on the side (which did manage to find it's way into the gravy...what can I say?). At first, I thought they should have included some kind of non gravy-covered veggie...but really, it would have just been in the way. Cool place. As mentioned in a previous review, it's seems to be an establishment that has a regular clientele , but I did not feel out of place at all. Service was quick and friendly. My husband, daughter, and myself have been here twice.... and will go back plenty more times. Their burgers are great! Service is always amazing. Decent crowd both times we went. Server was very personable both times and remembered us the second time. My mother in law and her boyfriend love the wings which we will be trying next time. We stopped for lunch because I found this great place on yelp. Mom and I were thrilled with this find! Mom had the salmon burger with great flavor and not too spicy and onion rings that she enjoyed. I had the french dip with fries and sour cream on the side~impressed that the sour cream cameout right away as most places forget and have to go back to the kitchen. The flavor of the beef I found plain although, the au jus made up for it!!! The au jus had alot of body and flavor without being saltly! Yum! The crinkle cut fries were great too. I added a Yuengling on tap that finished the sandwich wonderfully. We saw a worker from a nearby place that had an apron on come and order to go. read more

Stopped last night with a group of friends prior to an event in Glendale. We started with the yummy skins with bacon. They were amazing. Probably some of the best skins I have enjoyed. We also ordered cheesesticks. I'd say good, not great, on those. For dinner, we all ordered burgers. They are really good. I enjoy that crinkle cut fries are an option with them. The beer selection is not very good. For a city with such a great brewing industry, I expect craft brews, not Bud Light, Yuengling, etc. They did have one local IPA. I'd like to see all but one tap be local crafts. Prices are OK. I don't think they're as cheap as the signage would lead you to believe. (Best cheap lunch is what the sign says.) I wish I lived closer to this place. Whenever I am in the area I try to stop in just to get the garlic burger. Not a garlic spread or some minced garlic but a MOUND of roasted garlic on a burger. I've only been here once but that Black Peppercorn Burger and tater tots were both excellent. I will definitely be back! 4/16 - Been here a few times now and it's still a great burger. One of my local favorites -- only wish it was within walking distance from my house! This dive bar has a great selection of food (try the salmon burger and pulled pork BBQ), and their daily specials are great too! They usually have leftover deserts from The Grand Finale (across the street) which is a plus. Drink prices are cheap and they have deals during happy hour as well! read more

I have been coming to the friendly stop since I was in 4th grade. It's literally across the street from my grade school. I have lunch here literally every time I'm home for any reason. I don't think I've missed a lunch on any trip in the 5 years I've been away from Cincinnati. Friendly Stop isn't haute cuisine of course, but it is delicious home cooked food at a very reasonable price. The BBQ Burger, Garlic Burger or Vegetable-Beef soup are favorites of mine. I'm so disappointed! I work at a nearby business. I have ordered their Tuesday special: Pot Roast with extra Roasted Vegetables in the past and have enjoyed it very much. Today, I was very unhappy. First I was told that they don't have the Pot Roast anymore, but they have a "pot roast steak sandwich" on a hoagie roll. No more roasted veggies? Okay, I will try the hoagie sandwich, without the hoagie roll. What came to me looked nothing less than slop. It looked like a special "soft diet" macerated meat that you may find in a nursing home. Taste was okay - if you could get past the look. Ick. My coworkers made fun of me. I'm not quite sure what spurred the change? I will not order this again. tasty food, cheap beer. what more could one ask for? the deck upstairs is open during warmer months. the place seems to be patroned only by regulars (not many 20-somethings in the area, apparently). however the service is good to everyone. there are plenty of televisions to watch the reds game. the onions rings are big and tasty, and the burgers are mmm. they also serve a good black bean burger (though not on the menu). read more

Why did I wait so long to try Friendly Stop?? The basic cheeseburger is delicious, good quality meat, and was perfectly cooked to my order of medium rare. No big challenge to deep fry tasty tater tots, but they were done to perfection also. Love the old-fashioned atmosphere with antique signs and license plates on the wood paneled walls. I would caution against going at a busy time, because the rooms are small and probably become cramped feeling and noisy. But yeah, one of the best burgers in the Cincinnati area. read more

This cash only bar and grill has excellent lunch food for a small bill. Had the burger and tots, burger was fresh, juicy, and delicious. Tots are crispy and done perfectly. Lunch for 8 dollars makes it all the better. Parking is a little sketchy during lunch, it's only one lane to the parking area behind the building. I ended up parking on the street after almost running into someone. I have been here 3 times and am planning on making this a regular spot. read more

This is my favorite "dive" bar. The have very good food that is inexpensive, so an excellent value. Beer prices are low, and you can get some exceptionally good deals during happy hour. The employees are friendly, there are lots of TVs, there's a juke box... oh, and they DO take credit cards now, which is new in 2015. There is an outdoor seating area around the back & up the stairs, but it is only open at certain times, so check first if that is important to you. read more

Really good comfort food local hangout. If you want to follow the South Beach Diet, don't go here. Otherwise, you should go, even if only to indulge every once in a while. It's a little tight inside and not fancy, but dang, the food is great. The double cheeseburger is massive, a little greasy and absolutely delicious. It is the stuff of dreams for a burger lover. The other menu item that I think would be hard to match elsewhere is the wings. They are meaty and perfectly cooked and make my mouth water just recalling them. As a bonus, they will sometimes have extra cheesecake available from Grand Finale which is right across the street. The only reason I did not award five stars is that the service can be a little hit or miss depending on your server. Some of them are great; friendly, attentive and just what you'd want, but some can be a little cold if you are not a regular and this is a place with a lot of regulars. I suppose that gives you a hint that it is a joint worth revisiting. read more

This is a local place. IT was full of people who all knew each other as they walked through the door. I had drove bu many of time wanting to stop and try it out because i love little dive bars. It is cash only here and they let you know before you even get in with a sign on the door. They do however have an ATM. It is very small inside with not that many tables. The service was about average as well was the food. I might try it again if I'm out with people that want to go there but other than that probably not. read more

Overall, I enjoyed this restaurant. Pretty good food, especially for the price. Paid about $6 for a delicious burger. Not too big, but it was well seasoned. I had the Spicy Peppercorn Burger (not really spicy, but a good taste). I also had onion rings, which were classic beer battered, pretty good taste. My eating companion had the Chicken Philly which also tasted well. The service was nothing too impressive, pretty average. They do have a friendly waitstaff, but we went during lunch, and it was not as good as it could have been, especially with the lack of people in the restaurant at the moment. The Friendly Stop Cafe is just that. It's a small bar with a full menu and a few tables to eat at. The food menu is diner food for the most part and I have had the Reuben with tater tots both times that I ate there and it was excellent both times. I have always gone during the work day so I haven't had a chance to check out their beer or other alcoholic choices that they have. I will definitely have to go back one evening when I can check out the 'rest' of the menu. read more

You know, the food isn't all that special, but its fun that I can walk in whenever I want and get some food. Recommend the pepper-corn burger. Its a dive cafe, the kind you expect on the side of the road on Route 66 or something, but its got awesome charm and its your standard deep-fried experience of awesomeness. It's also a 2 minute walk from where I stay in town, so that certainly helps, lol. Worth a trip if you know Glendale. If you don't, you should still visit for a unique place. And as it's been stated. I have never really been impressed during prior visits, especially disappointed with their brunch as whenever I would order something not readily available on the buffet, waffles for example, they arrive luke warm. Anyway, had the onion soup which was fine and a filet which was good. They were busy and had to ask/track down our server for some items. Stopped by today for lunch with a couple friends. As usual the food was great. I had the Reuben special. Corned beef was tender and stacked high. Lou had the Open faced roast beef with gravy smothered fries instead of mashed potatoes. We could tell it was delicious because he quit talking long enough to devour it. Herb ordered the Turkey Club on the recommendation of our waitress. He truly thought it was more than he would be able to finish. He always says that, but manages to clean his plate. Our waitress was great. She took real good care of us. She is one of the reasons it's called the 'Friendly' Stop. With a house full of regulars, even first-timers feel welcome. read more

Went here for the first time a little while back and it was pretty good. I had a simple burger while my fiance had some wings. Both were flavorful and cooked well. Service was very good. Only small thing which isnt really their fault, but there is very limited seating and parking here due to the location. read more
