Smallish store, but what they carry is quality. They always have a nice selection of beers, wine and the likes. The staff is very knowledgable about the natural vitamins and potions offered as well. Wouldn't allow me to enter their store unless I touched their hand sanitizer dispenser that may or may not be infected with covid, and sanitize my hands, in hopes to rid the potential covid. I asked if it was an option and they said no. Seems to me like this wreaks of a liability issue. I've been coming to Friendly St Market since I moved to the neighborhood in 2011. My child attends a school near the market, and I am so thankful that it is there for me on those busy school mornings. I usually pop in after school drop off and pick from the great selection of healthy gluten free foods for my lunch, then sip coffee while exchanging pleasantries with the counter staff. I have to say, I'm usually on the same schedule as Jamaica, you can't miss her. Curly red locks, a beaming smile, and a wealth of knowledge about the store products. Being a " shop local" gal, I really appreciate a local market with my kind of eats, and a staff that greets me at the door by my name. The selection of local and eclectic goods is great and always fresh. However, if you're trying to order a sandwich bring a book. I've stopped by 3 times and at least they are consistent with their time. It takes 15 minutes (if not more) to make a single sandwich or wrap even when it's slow. The staff working they deli will engage in conversation with each other about weekend plans while you're waiting on the sandwich. Sloth speed. If you're stopping in to grab groceries, great spot. Great local organic market and fantastic new deli. The grocery potion of the market pretty much has everything we ever need despite its small square footage. The produce here is much better and about half the price as the organic produce you can buy at market of choice. Sure, it's not fancy with a meat market or a cheese booth, but they have what you need on a daily basis. The new deli, which recently opened, is fantastic. They carry all the goods from local bakeries- sweet life, humble bagel, have great coffee drinks and teas and even have ice cream from a local creamy- red barn. You can go to one place and order from any of your town favorites. They have outdoor seating, with heaters in the cooler weather and shade in the summer or to protect you from the rain. The staff has always been great and extremely patient and helpful with my small children. My daughter once spilled her hot chocolate everywhere. They didn't from one second make me feel bad and even though I tried to clean it up, they wouldn't let me. They totally took care of it and didn't make me feel bad at all. They definitely take care of their patrons. In the years past I've felt like some of their counter people have been a little grumpy and haven't wanted to go out of their way to help but lately things have changed for the better. They staff seem happy which makes you enjoy your experience. They get my two thumbs up. read more

This is not a good spot to come to if you are in a hurry or have any sort of schedule to keep. The service is slow and inefficient. However it is close to our home and has decent sandwiches and espresso drinks ( depending on your barista). Wine and cheese tasting every Friday night. Very slow service. read more

We love the "hail to the bee" ice cream, but just be prepared for passive, "you're making my life excruciatingly difficult" messages you and your family will receive from the ice cream scoopers...Great food. I love this place! It is my local market, coffee shop, and place to grab a beer. The employees who work the market cashier are efficient and sweet, and always down to chat for a minute. However, something MUST be said about the speed at which the deli counter takes orders and makes food. It is glacial. The people who work the cashier are sometimes fast but often slow, and I have never had food come out quickly from their kitchen. The employees making food (of which there are usually more than appear necessary) seem to have no sense of urgency, or awareness that the rate at which they make the food is at all important to their customers. The deli has become increasingly busy as the weather has gotten nicer again, and more often than not, you need to wait in line behind 5 people for 15-20 minutes to order a sandwich (which will be tasty!) that will be ready in 30-45 mins. I personally only go to this market as a last resort. The selection is rather ok for the size of the store, but the staff is something else. The employees there are grumpy, rude and have no customer service skills. I thought a small market in a neighborhood would have more friendly and "neighborly" employees. I always feel like I'm burdening them when I have to shop there. I'm definitely going to take the extra distance to go to another nearby grocery store. read more

I was coming own with a cold so I thought I treat myself to some hot chicken soup by heading down to the Friendly St Market. Arriving there, I proceeded to their deli section to pick up some soups to discover that they will no longer operate their own cafe -- I was told by their employee that they are outsourcing the cafe to another entity. Then, I was told that I can still get my soup at their refrigerator,which has no door for insulation. I reluctantly looked and found two containers left marked with freshness dates for 1/20-1/26. I was there 1/26. To my horror, these soups have been sitting around for more than six days. It's highly irresponsible and greedy for a business to sell refrigerated soups after three days on the shelf. No preservatives or air tight seals on them! I wouldn't even eat my own soup if it's been sitting around in the refrigerator (with a door) beyond two days let alone six plus days. Is the Friendly Street Market trying to food poison their customers? I raised this concern with their deli staff member who tried hard to justify their lack of concerns and after sixty seconds of talking to me, he simply walked away. That's not at all a display of being friendly, which contradicts their store's name. They should change it to Botulism St Store! read more

Overall this place is awesome. Great energy, great inventory, nice people. The deli, however, leaves something to be desired. Things are often left off sandwiches and orders take FOREVER. It literally took 25 minutes for a sandwich. Which, even though I asked to have it grilled, was not grilled. I don't even understand how that's possible. I'm very surprised to see that the Friendly Street Market has low ratings on Yelp.. I stop by the market at least twice a week and always have a great experience! They make awesome coffee drinks and other beverages in the cafe (I love that they use Lotus Chai, best chai lattes!) and they have delectable pastries that always taste scrumptious. Their food menu is a collaboration with Party Downtown, which is an awesome small restaurant in downtown Eugene, which they call Party on Friendly. I love love love all the food they serve at Party on Friendly! I have taken many friends to try it who have all also loved it! So, not only do I love the cafe, but they also have great food, candy, beer, wine and much more goodies in the market. My favorite dispensary also happens to be right next door, super convenient. The avocado toast never disappoints and this time around I ordered a white chocolate lavender mocha to go with it... The best mocha I've ever had! Love this place. It's really convenient. They have everything I like to eat. Lots of good brands. Local produce. It's small but it really has everything you need. Some of the employees are not very nice. Seem to trail off or ignore you. They even act like they are annoyed if you ask for a receipt. Not everyone is like that but a couple of the employees are. I am giving the Friendly Street Market and Deli a Five star rating based on the fact that they have improved everything about the place with the new ownership. The Deli used to be very boring and the selection left much to be desired. They now have a great selection and are very busy all of the time. Everyone working in there is working at 100% every time I'm there. I don't mind waiting a few minutes for a delicious sandwich, when I see how busy they are, and I know I'm still getting a quality sandwich. I think it will continue to get better and better. I just moved from Eugene oct 2015 and miss Friendly Street Market and Deli! It was a joy to shop among good people and friends. I was a regular since my kids were too small to reach the counter and now in college! Its locally owned and the dollars stay in the community. The selection is great and prices fair. I came here for the first time a few weeks ago and was excited to find a new (to me) market/ coffee shop close to my house. I came back this morning and had a much different experience. I ordered a latte and after 20 minutes of waiting, the barista was rude and condescending when I asked if a drink she had set on the counter was mine. They had made the wrong drink and she then had an attitude when she made me a new one. They were then completely out of all their sweetener options on the coffee counter, so I waited again. 30 minutes later I finally was able to leave with my coffee and my (now fussy) toddler.
