As one of the last and closest Friendly's to us, this place is cherished. It is always worth the trip to it. The mozz sticks are like cocaine and beyond addicting. The super melts are ooey, gooey, cheesy masterpieces. The ice cream menu especially the Reese's sundae are to die for. There is something magical about Friendly's, it's menu and the taste. Not sure why other reviewers had a poor experience. Perhaps the staff overturn is high or the workers are seasonal? I stopped in (I must admit, we got it to go) and picked up a rather complex order, and they made zero mistakes and were extremely friendly (ha!) and accommodating. Food was ready on time and was as expected (a step up from normal fast food but not fine dining). Would go again if I am in the area and feeling nostalgic. I wish we still had almost 1000 Friendly's locations all over the country but alas there are only 138 left. read more

My cleints picked this spot for lunch and I ordered the aloha chicken stir fry. When I arrived to pick up the food, I parked in the plaza lot. I walked in and was greeted. I paid and left when the food was ready. When I ate the stir fry was really good. It was filling and tasty. I enjoyed my meal. read more

Took my 4 year old here for lunch, we were sat and told the server would be with us shorty. 25 minutes go by and still no server. Meanwhile there is only three tables that have people at them and both other tables already had their food. The tables that had their food already got checked on twice by a server meanwhile my son and I are still waiting to get even a drink order take and still nothing. The entire time we were in the restaurant multiple people came in and were served to go drinks and ice creams. We sat there for a total of 30 minutes before we got up and decided to go somewhere where we can actually get served. We stopped in (during a power outage) last week and we're quickly greeted by a very pleasant young lady who advised up the power just came on so the grill wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes but we were welcome to wait or order from the limited selection. After a not so great dinner at another restaurant in town we headed over to Friendly's for dessert. We arrived at 9:01pm. The hostess promptly told us that the dinning room closed at 9pm. I understood they didn't want to seat us and they offered takeout. I turned to my child and told her to pick something from the case for her birthday dessert instead. The staff heard it was her birthday and asked if we were just having ice cream. When we told her we were, she sat us. Good food as expected. The service was LAME! Our server was trying hard to remember her order for the table without writing it down, ya know the new wave cool thing to do...FAIL. She got the food order OK but failed at the simple ice cream delivery (Wrong flavors, toppings swapped with others at the table) just a mess. I went to an ice festival last weekend and my friend and I decided to go to friendlys since it was close by and I haven't ate there in years. I ordered a Ruben sandwich which was cut in half. I was halfway done enjoying my first half when I happened to look down at the other half of sandwich on the plate and noticed a HUGE PIECE OF HAIR coming out of it!!!! I alerted the waitress and she brought the manager over who was very nice to offer me another free meal. I stated "I lost my appetite and the sight of that was repulsing !" She then offered me free ice cream. I still declined. The staff was kind but kindness doesn't promote cleanliness. Instead of offering a free meal the manager needs to insist that the cooks wear HAIR-NETS and inspector's check for compliance in food handling , personal hygiene and vermin! Let me start by asking, Why do 95% of the photos for this page look like stock advertising photos, taken by a semi - pro photographer? This isn't really what the food looks like. Ahhh Friendly's I've got fond memories of you, but with each attempt to update and salvage the chain, my nostalgia is farther and farther from the reality. The Newton location, cleanish. Wait staff, just a little South of attentive enough Stopped in this last weekend for breakfast, and my pancakes and bacon came out looking weird,anemic, minimalist, and tiny. Like if you got Pancakes and Bacon on the International Space Station. (Sorry no pics of this food based, portion controlled, art project) On my white rectange with rounded corners, was 2 strips of bacon, 2 inches away from my 3 mildly undercooked pancakes, with a 1/2 T. of butter on top. My home fries (which deep fried plain, as opposed to griddled with onions and peppers, were not the textbook definition of home fries, but were still tasty) came out on another white plate, filling it in a single layer. My dining companion's scrambled eggs were anything but light, moist, and fluffy. (It was basically like a misshapen omelet) her sausage links shiny and gray, with no hint of browning. Her Brioche French Toast, soggy, flat, limp and lifeless, and browned only on one side. I remember the cream colored hotel ware plates, with the red/maroon Friendly's Logo (With matching bowls, coffee cups, and saucers), and possibly the plates were smaller, and that made the food look bigger. Maybe I'm going a bit overboard with this review, but Friendly's had a place in my heart. I ate at Friendly's with my parents when I was small, and later with my buddies out on our bikes to get an ice cream cone, and later still on a date. So on a purely emotional level, it's hard to watch it slip away, losing its' 80 year old identity, and become generic. Granted if I order a Hot Fudge, Chocolate Chip Mint Sundae with whipped cream and a cherry on top, it's still pretty much the same frozen treat I've been enjoying since at least 1976. read more

If you are over the age of 18 and don't have a kid you have no right eating here. It's disgusting, vile, landfill ready food. I guess the ice cream is ok, but it's kinda hard to screw up ice cream. If you want a dinner, be sure to enjoy some microwaved rubber chicken and grease injected grade-c mystery meat burgers. Yum. I'm giving this review 5 stars especially because it certainly doesn't deserve an overall 2 stars.. It's typical friendlys food.. Of course it's not going to be fantastic. I can definitely name a few better restaurants in the area (to those of you who gave this like 2 stars). They advertised a free sundae with the purchase of ANY supermelt, but according to the manager supermelts on the breakfast menu are a special breed of "breakfast" supermelt and so you don't get a free sundae with them even though they falsely advertised ANY supermelt = free sundae. We originally brought this issue up with our waitress who rudely shrugged and said, "It's Friendly's policy. Not my problem!" Horrible customer service and false advertising! read more

Food is typical Friendlys. Love the salads. Hot foods come out hot and cold, cold. Service for me has always been good...both breakfast and lunch. The only bad issue is the management. One female manager would rather sit in front of the restaurant and smoke than help the staff. I had to wait for server to go outside to speak with manager because the register wasnt working....manager didnt come in!!! Ten minutes to check out. I went to get ice cream at friendlys two nights ago and when we went to pay, I tried paying with an American Express gift card. It hadn't been used yet and I had sufficient funds to cover the bill. Our waitress wasn't sure how to use the gift card, so she had the manager come and swipe it for her. She had swiped it a couple of time and said that the card kept declining, so I used cash to pay instead. The next day I went to buy something at Target and I used the same card, and it said my gift card had only $2.32 on it. Instantly I checked the American Express website to see why my card had only $2.32 on it instead of the full $50, and it said that friendlys had charged my card four times, and on top of that I had to pay cash. When I went to friendlys to ask for my money back since they overcharged me, and I asked for the manager. The manager on duty said there's only one woman who can give me my money back, so I had to wait an hour and a half for her. When I finally spoke with her, she admitted that it was their mistake but could not issue me my money back until she called the money company to confirm that they had overcharged me even though I gave her my receipt and showed her the American Express website which confirmed that I had been charged on the gift card 4 times. She said that I might get a friendlys gift card back, but I do not plan on going back anytime soon. She told me she would call me the next day and never did. I am still waiting to get almost $50 back. Also their water tasted like salt water. read more

Terrible service. I was seated and then had to wait more than 20 minutes before anyone came to even take a drink order. Then after finally asking a passing server a manager came to take our order. Really there is only 1 reason to go to friendlys. That is Ice Cream. We usually go to this place as a last resort in the area due to the "greasy spoon" nature of friendlys. Friendly's seems to have devolved into fried food for dinner with few real healthy choices. Then again, we come to expect that. For food, I had the "new" chicken bacon ranch sandwich. The bun they have for this is amazing due to the cooked on cheese. However, the inside of the sandwich is basically chicken fingers from the fryer. It would be nice if they offered a health option of grilled chicken with a sandwich such as this(even mcdonalds offers a choice that is visible on the menu). We also had the chicken with broccoli pasta. We had to send this back due to the chicken not having a good texture. It was different than our last visit(possibly undercooked or the chicken has changed. The good news is that the ice cream is good(who doesn't love ice cream). This chain in general appears to be going downhill as the service was only ok. If you go to this place just for ice cream it is solid. Lunch and dinner food, not so much. read more
