Happy Taco Tuesday in Sparta, New Jersey! I told my friend that we should have tacos for dinner. She knew that Sparta Classic Diner had tacos on their menu, so she drove us there! The interior was really cute with an old school, country feel... and an indoor (artificial) fireplace! Service was efficient and friendly. Our server had down-to-earth hospitality! She knew to offer us takeout containers at the end of the meal because we were so full! I got the Fish Tacos, grilled. They came with a side of rice and beans - and sweetly tart, fried plantains. Great layout and seating options. Diner style of course. Service is always very nice. We have been here many times. Today is st pats weekend so for breakfast I decided I am going to try the Irish skillet.... And it was pretty good. Good change of pace. As far as diners go this is about as good as it gets. Met some old friends here for lunch. The diner looks very new on the inside and is very clean. Service was friendly but it was a struggle to get the orders in as there was a bit of a language barrier. I ordered a classic reuben and it was quite good. Others ordered tacos and other sandwiches. Overall the consensus was that it was above average. Definitely worth a visit but don't expect to be blown away. read more

Came for dinner and the food took a while. Not too big of a deal but the dressing was wrong and my steak was not hot at all. They had to remake the salad and by the time it came back out the steak was cold. We had to ask 3 times for butter on my daughter's "Butter" noodles. When the server brought it out she said "it's because they had to melt it". It doesn't take 15 minutes to melt butter. Take some accountability and admit you forgot twice! We were done eating by the time she got her butter. Finally, we wanted dessert and when we asked for the menu she said "that's the shakes menu, the rest is pies we have on a tray". So we expected her to come out with a tray to show us the desserts. After a few minutes we flagged her down again and she said "did you decide what you wanted?" We said we don't know what you have! We haven't seen the menu/tray. THEN she finally explained we're supposed to get up from the table and walk over to their pie station to see what we want. We got the check and left. Never coming back. We were sat at a table and ten minutes later the server came in asking for our order and ended with "also the manager is not happy because you came in with outside drinks" we were not told anything until after our orders were taken. Would go again - This diner is a gem in a quiet neighborhood in comparison to suburbs closer to NYC. Sparta is a very relaxing town and Lake Mohawk near this diner is such a good R&R place to visit. In addition, you have this diner that has many menu items fit for foodies. My friend and I ordered the buffalo mac and cheese, southwest chicken sandwich, and BBQ burger. Gosh...all 3 of these foods were delicious! They have so many other unique foods and their milkshake looks insane...given the amount of food we ordered, we had to skip it. The buffalo Mac and cheese was some of the best I ever had. Creamy but cheesy and it did not get dried up as most mac and cheeses do. Interior is very clean for a diner. First time coming to this diner. First impressions were good! It was the cleanest and most modern I have seen in a while and service wasn't the best but also was not awful. My issue was when my food came out. I ordered a pork sandwich. You know the string that chefs use to tie the pork and keep it together while cooking? Yes i found several of those in my food. Been here 3x in the last 2 months. Brought large groups of family members and the food quality it top notch! Best quality diner food in the area! Their hot cocoa is not Swiss mix or hot water or hersheys syrup, no sir, it's the real deal with hot milk and premium Ghirardelli cocoa. Their oatmeal is with hot milk and no sugar so perfect for a healthy person. Their teas are all organic. This diner has spoiled me as no other diner can compete. read more

Good spot for good food, good service, and clean. Had the corned beef skillet, chicken fajitas omelette, and chocolate shake. Loved that the chocolate shake was chocolate icecream and milk instead of syrup with vanilla. Definitely would recommend. read more

Holy milkshakes!!! This place has the BEST milkshakes. They looked so good we had to order one and it did NOT disappoint. We got the cheesecake one, topped with a slice of delicious cheesecake with vanilla ice cream, gram cracker crumbs, and totally worth the extra calories. The food was great too! I had a chicken wrap and my fiancé had a burger. Everything was excellent and I was thrilled to be able to get my disco fry fix while visiting New Jersey. This place offers a huge menu, right on the placemat, which is typical of a diner up there. There is definitely something for everyone. Family waited for almost an hour for food. Everyone's food was ice cold and my burger wasn't there. Manager said he would take care of the cold food. I've been here half a dozen times, usually for dinner, since they reopened, and give it 4 stars for the food quality. Burgers and eggs are good. Peeves - 1. the coffee is too strong. I really cannot enjoy it. 2. pricey. At least a buck or 2 more than comparable area diners. 3. always an upcharge for a substitution. What happened to accommodating the customer? 4. Food was ok, when it finaly arrived correctly. Our server Autumn had many chances to make are visit better but failed every time. No knowledge of the menu, wrote down order wrong, had no understanding of what taking a correct order means. Embarrassed us for not knowing there was no desert menu printed. First time I went after they reopened following the fire. I was served a completely raw burger when ordered medium. Other than removing the item from the bill, the owner stated that the kitchen was getting use to new equipment. Sorry, but anyone could see that it never touched the grill. Atmosphere: Since we didn't go to the Sparta Classic Diner, I can't say for sure, but I've seen photos of the exterior and it looks like the Classic Diner feel. I will say our delivery service was perfect and safe. The delivery driver made sure we received our food and we felt safe and comfortable while doing so. Milkshake: Instead of ordering coffee, I went with a brownie milkshake. I was also eying the black forest milkshake. It was a vanilla milkshake with brownie at the bottom and extremely good. Plus, there was plenty of whipped cream on the top. Food: The Sparta Classic Diner many has everything you could want or need in a diner. There is all-day breakfast, plus lunch, and dinner specials. There are plenty of healthy options, too, if you're craving a salad or something lighter. They also have a gluten-free menu, and it looks like accommodate any dietary needs. I don't see tacos very often, so I decided to order the fish tacos. They came with grilled or fried cod, rice, and fried plantains. I haven't had fried plantains in quite some time, and I like them, so I was excited for them. The fish tacos were delicious.  There was plenty of guacamole inside too. The fried plantains and rice met my expectations, and you would never guess you were getting takeout from a diner. Service: You can easily order your meal online. One thing I do wish was if there was a way to have an option for delivery that isn't "ASAP." It's a minor issue, but it would be nice. The delivery driver brought out food and made us feel safe. Cost: $ The Sparta Classic Diner is one of the more expensive diners out there.  Most entrees cost $20+. For the milkshake, tacos, and delivery, it was $26.50. It was high-quality food, so it was worth it. Would I Go Back? I'm happy we got takeout from the Sparta Classic Diner. Reopened in June 2023, I was glad the service and food met all my expectations. The interior was redone with updated facilities.

Wow! The food was tasty, well proportion and the service was great. I love dinners and this just made my top 5 favorites. The environment was welcoming and the food was delicious. Horrible service, the attitude of the waitress is actually horrific! A few of my friends and us sat down and we had brought coffee from outside which was a horrible thing to do according to the manager as we were told by the waitress. The manager was "very upset" that we brought outside iced coffee and informed us that we would be charged for the coffee that we got at another establishment and that we would have to order drinks from them if we didn't want to get charged for the coffee. Thats absolutely ridiculous. I understand having a strict no outside food or drink policy but charging for drinks that we did not receive is insane. HORRIBLE SERVICE I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. We brought in outside drinks and the waitress told us that the manager wasn't happy and that he will charge us extra for our coffees UNLESS we buy drinks on their menu... the sign that said no outside drinks was not noticeable, and no one said anything about their policy until after we were sat and ordered our food.
