I don't like giving 1Star reviews but unfortunately, this location earned it. Went here with my family for what I thought was breakfast because that is how they advertised it online. We quickly found out that they only served lunch and dinner. After COVID-19, they stopped serving breakfast options. Took me a while to figure out what to order but settled for the mac & cheese kids meal that came with an ice cream Sunday, the lunch special (turkey club + soup) and the happy ending cheeseburger. Nothing to really write about because it was decent. The servers and host were nice and kind, however this franchisese / establishment has sadly run its course. The prices don't justify the quality of the food. It's practically a low-tier diner. read more

Came in today for sundae's. Staff was sitting with their shoes off at the back of the restaurant. There was one waitress working and I did have to ask her for a menu after seating ourselves. We ordered two sundaes which came with plastic spoons, one of which wouldn't scrape the bottom of a medium sundae cup. Halfway through, we had to ask for water which was provided to us in a paper cup. Two other tables have been greeted and seated and have real silverware and real cups. I was hoping to provide my son with a similar experience I had when I was younger at Friendly's. I will not be back. read more

Let's start with the ambiance: Picture a rundown middle school cafeteria after a natural disaster. The air was thick with sorrow and possibly expired ranch dressing. There were flies dive-bombing my fries like it was D-Day. I swatted a mosquito the size of a golf ball off my burger and it looked offended. Now, the food. Oh lord, the food. I ordered chicken tenders, and what I got could only be described as prehistoric fossils lightly dusted in regret. The fries were soggy, like they had taken a short bath in someone's tears. And the ice cream? It tasted like freezer-burn and despair. I've had better dairy experiences from expired gas station yogurt. Also, no bathroom, because apparently the ceiling is sinking in. Which was not only horrifying but confusing--how does a ceiling sink?? What kind of gravity-defying curse is this place under? We showed up at 10:50 on a Saturday for breakfast. They stop serving breakfast at 11:00. The server asked our menu choice. saying we could not order lunch till after 11 and they were already putting away the breakfast items. We opted for breakfast. I'm not sure what took me so long to have real food at Friendly's but I have been missing out! I love Friendlys ice cream, but I have never thought to try any other items off the menu. The service here is really good. I went on a Saturday and surprisingly it wasn't busy at all! Our server was attentive and gave recommendations when I asked for it. Most of the food was under $10 and that was a plus for me! For my meal I decided to go with a combo which includes a menu item, and ice cream. I ordered crispy chicken wrap with honey mustard, waffle fries, and cookies and cream ice cream. I was pleasantly surprised with how fresh everything tasted. Actually, I can't rate the food because we didn't get any. When we walked in, the server didn't greet us or smile, just asked if we were there for breakfast. We said we were. She said we had five minutes before breakfast ended. I said we could have lunch. She replied we'd have to wait five minutes. So we said we'd have breakfast. She plops the menus on a table and walks to another table and says loudly, "This happens every time. Someone comes in wanting breakfast when we're putting everything away." i had an incredibly horrible experience here. i understand that businesses can be understaffed but that is now excuse to be blatantly rude to customers. to begin with, my partner and i had to sit ourselves at a table because no one could walk us. i wasn't too upset because i get that friendly's in general is struggling but the problem lies within the service i received today. to begin with, our server was extremely rude. not once did she greet us with a smile or even ask how the food was. when i asked for water initially, she told me it was charged. i tried to not make it a big deal but upon asking another employee i discovered that the water was free. my server glared at me and said she had told us thought initially... i felt so incredibly horrible at that moment. this crossed a line. i accidentally knocked over my water and it spilled entirely on my partner and i's laps. not only did we have to clean it up ourselves, which would have been fine if someone had at least offered to help, but the employees stood and watched. no one even offered any other paper towels for us, real nice... the server then came and took the plate and said i'll just take this. she didn't even ask if we were okay or needed anything. the restaurant was certainly not busy and i felt like such a problem... i really really felt like a nuisance at this restaurant when i made a perfectly normal mistake. and again, it was a dining out experience yet i still had to clean up everything. i mean, i literally had to wipe down and clear the table myself. i'm not a snotty person... i work as a food runner so i know how the food service industry is... but no one should have to bus their own table when they are already paying a ridiculous amount of money for overpriced food. not to mention, the food was completely microwaved and lacking in any sort of flavor. a complete waste of $30 and certainly not worth the time spent there to be walking around without so much as a "thank you" or "have a nice day." i wasn't even greeted either... never coming here ever again and i SERIOUSLY discourage anyone from making this mistake. i had ordered Chicken Noodle Soup, chicken quesadillas, and my partner ordered the southwest pasta. read more

Since it is a chain restaurant, it doesn't have any special qualities to it. The food is pretty good (i had the bbq chicken sandwich) which is just your average crispy chicken smothered with bbq sauce and melted cheese. Since it is a combo, it came with a sundae. It is really good too. However the fries that came with the sandwich was a little bland for my liking, they could have put a little more flavor into it. Overall, the food and atmosphere was good and nice. The waiters were very attentive and helped us in deciding our choices. Would come again if I'm craving some nostalgia because being at friendlys makes you feel like a kid again. read more

I love FRIENDLYS so much, it's one of my favorite restaurants ever!! But I show up to this one at 7:45, when it states they close at 9pm and the server said he wouldn't seat us because they close the dining room at 8... we asked if they were open till 9 and he said only for takeout, and so we left, and I see him laughing with a co-worker as if he might've lied maybe to get out of work earlier.. Terrible. It seems like it got sold off to a new group that don't know how to run it. Very disappointing. The waiter didn't seem to understand what we were saying when we ordered menu items by name. It took 40 minutes to bring us our melted ice cream. It was made and sitting on the counter but our waiter was too busy playing on his phone to bring it to us, refill our waters, check on us or bring the coffee we ordered but never got. The manager stopped by to ask how things were and we let her know the ice cream was melted and the nice family trip we were trying to have went from a fun summer treat to an aggravating ordeal and disappointment. She offered to take the coffee off the bill, we never got the coffee so I would hope so. This is not the Friendly's it used to be, the wall decorations are gone in place of half hearted taped up decorations, the table was dirty and sticky, the wait staff was annoying at best and ignorant to useless at worst. I will give it another try one day, but no time soon. I'll be abandoning that tradition and trying new places, for the rest of this summer. Oh well, it had a good run. read more

Friendly's oh where have you been? Seems most of the Friendly's I visited in my past have all closed up. Well anyway looking to get my fix so why not have some ice cream. Dark parking lot but there are people inside so must just be an electrical issue. Get seated right away and waiter comes almost immediately for drinks. Now being seated near the entrance you see everyone that comes in. Yeah there is a point. An older gentleman and his wife come in and are waiting to be seated. Hostess is busy in the back somewhere. In comes a group of 3 young women fresh out of high school who apparently know a server. One is calling her name over the counter. She greets them with a hug and seats them immediately. Then goes into the back to get them menus. The older man says to wife do you believe that? Our waiter comes to to the table takes our order and I suggest he find who is seating patrons because they have been waiting now for about 5 minutes. He seats them. The waitress who sat the girls is now sitting with them and chatting up a storm. They decide what they want and she runs and makes there order. You see where I'm going with this? Yeah. They, the non paying customers got there ice cream before the paying customers. Moral of the story. Be friends with people who work there get served faster than paying customers. No wonder so many closed down. 2 stars because that's how I roll. Paying customers before freeloaders!!! read more

Itsa notta bad. They have these breakfast sandwiches that they call breakfast SuperMelts that are really edible. I don't know what makes them 'super' melts -- the cheese is just melted, it's not like, scorched or something. They have Green Mountain coffee, which is drinkable! I never thought I'd bother reviewing a well-known chain store like Friendly's, but the Metuchen shop deserves a special call out. My boyfriend stopped in for a quick late dinner on a Tuesday night and knew we wanted ice cream for dessert. Friendly's was an obvious choice. Upon entering we were immediately greeted with a cheerful hello and shown to our booth. Our waitress Alexa was one of the two best servers we've had in any restaurant so far this year, and is really the reason I decided to write a review. She was prompt with her service from bringing menus and taking orders, to delivering and following up on our needs. She was bright, happy, and just a genuinely "friendly" person (ha ha I know I'm hilarious). I was also a bit surprised at how good my dinner was. My boyfriend's chicken fingers and fries were great, but I've come to expect the fried foods there would be. I ordered a chicken apple salad with blue cheese crumbles which was fantastic! There was a hearty portion of apple, cheese and chicken - not just a bed of lettuce with a few trimmings as I'd expected. If you're looking for a casual night out at a place you know and love, the Metuchen Friendly's is a great choice. read more

I wouldn't typically review a chain like this, but this Friendly's takes Friendly's already mediocre dining experience, and spectacularly ruins it. This place needs to shut down ASAP. Now, I'm willing to suspend my anecdotal evidence of how truly bad this Friendly's is, and say that maybe... just maybe... not everyone will have such a poor experience. Regardless, this is my review so I will review based on my own experience. We went for lunch - ordered a sandwich, a salad, and two glasses of water. Simple enough, right? Upon ordering, the water came out, and had a metallic soapy taste. Honestly, we should have left right there, but we decided to stick it out as maybe there was a mistake in the back and the glasses weren't washed correctly. Our replacement drinks came back - same problem. There was a soapy metallic taste that made the water undrinkable. Ok, fine. Guess we won't be drinking water with lunch. Next, the food came out. The sandwich had a chicken breast slice in it and was partially frozen. Something about biting into a chicken sandwich and hitting frozen chicken with your teeth makes your appetite go away real quick. The salad came out, and the larger pieces of lettuce were frozen solid. This wasn't just about poor quality food, or terrible service - this was about egregious errors on the part of the cooking staff in storing and preparing food. Fearing a health issue from the improperly reheated chicken fillet and the frozen wilted lettuce, we paid our bill (the waiter was the only nice part of the experience) and promptly left. The manager and cooking staff of this place need to be fired, and banned from working in the food industry ever again. Close this place down and replace it with competent management. read more

I'm baffled by the service me and my sister got at this place and will definitely be making a call to management. We came in around 10:00 for breakfast and the restaurant had maybe two or three families seated. There was one person waiting to be seated in front of us. My sister was holding my sleeping niece. We waited for a good bit and were wondering when the hostess would show up. It was only when a few people came in and walked right past the hostess desk to sit by themselves that the waitress decided to show herself. Was she in the back working? No, she was chatting in a booth with other customers. We were confused but sat down and looked over the menu. When she finally came over to take our order, we politely gave her our choices and she turned around to get an order from another customer. My sister was looking through the kids menu for my niece and she wanted to hold onto it for when the toddler woke up but the waitress gathered it up with all of our menus as she turned around - mind you I went and grabbed the kids menu myself because she neglected to give it to us, and when my sister said "Sorry can we actually hold onto that.." the waitress rudely told us to wait, and my sister said "I just wanted to keep the kids menu" and she snapped at my sister to say "I'm handling another customer right now you can wait!" All this attitude just to hand us back a menu...and the other customers looked just as confused by the entire situation. My sister at this point was really pissed so when she obnoxiously tried to turn around and throw the menu back on our table my sister pushed it off the table because I grabbed another one from the hostess desk. At this point though we were completely turned off, and after reading other bad reviews about the food decided to leave. She obnoxiously threw out "Oh you guys are leaving? Good!" I'm embarrassed about what I just experienced. read more

Friendly's is a great place to get burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The food is reasonably priced for most of the food. Sometimes they have great deals and coupons that you can get through email. Friendly's is pretty clean but it could be updated. Their ice cream is delicious and their food is pretty good. I do not recommend getting the waffles and the chicken noodle soup. I do recommend getting the chicken fingers, hamburger, the turkey dinner, and the crispy chicken salad. I will be back. read more
