I brought the family here for ice cream one night so Harrison could experience what a "Conehead Sundae" was all about. We were seated and served quickly, and our waitress was very friendly. It wasn't busy and our ice cream came within about five minutes. She even brought over a special kid package for Harrison with a temperature color-changing spoon. Neat! Our ice cream was as good as I remembered it. Harrison mostly focused on the candy and whipped cream, so I actually got two sundaes (for the prices of, well, two sundaes). Speaking of of which, prices of everything has gone up but I didn't think it was unreasonable for a sit-down experience. When my husband suggested we go to Friendly's in Troy, he had one mission. He wanted to pick up a half gallon of pistachio ice cream. It doesn't seem to be available at grocery stores. We were hungry, too. So we decided to do lunch. What fun to sit in the booths that look like a blast from the past. Between the decor and the wall art, the place was full of nostalgia. It's been a long time since I've eaten at a Friendly's. I was sad when so many of them closed years ago. I don't remember the meals being so high in calories, but I think the menus didn't use to list the calorie counts. I picked the Pastrami Supermelt which I remember being listed at over 1000 calories. It was actually a grilled cheese sandwich loaded with pastrami and coleslaw. It came with a side of fries, but I was allowed to substitute broccoli. Wow. It was a big, rich meal. I couldn't finish it. Some large families showed up for lunch. From what I could see, we had only one server. His name was Dave. He was very nice and extremely professional. The kitchen wasn't very fast, but Dave was good at multi-tasking and seemed to have everything under control. Before we left, we asked about the ice cream. Dave checked for us. He said they'd sold out of all their pistachio ice cream in pre-packed half gallon containers. Instead, he had a colleague hand pack some pistachio ice cream for us to bring home. It tasted great. The single star is for the comfortable booths. That is a good thing, because we sat in one fir a long time waiting for our drinks, and even longer waiting for food. We (a group of 4) stopped for lunch. Being from out of the area and a place where all the Friendliest closed after the last bankruptcy, we had not eaten in one in several years. After this visit, all I can say is that was not long enough. The service was terrible, and 3 of the 4 orders were marginal at best. The chicken bacon salad came without and bacon, and with tortilla strips that were not even crispy. The turkey on the open faced turkey sandwich was chewy and salty, though the mashed potatoes and corn were fine. When we asked to speak to the manager, no one came. When tracked down they did comp the meal, but on the whole the experience was so unsatisfactory that we felt like we overpaid. read more

We use to love Friendly's but after our last dinner there, we were not happy. Service was great but the food portion and size of burger has gotten so small, It's not worth the price. Also they took off the mini mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. But the big problem that made me write this review was the receipt that had the suggested tip. If you don't pay attention to it you are paying over 33% when it says 20%. I know it say suggested but 20% is not $10.92 it should be $6.47. Cheesecake Factory was sued over this. read more

Friendly's has a reputation among many Capital Region residents for not having the greatest service, which will make you want to rip your hair out when dining out with kids. I had witnessed it in the past at other locations, but I'm happy to report that we had a satisfactory experience while here last month. We stopped in on a Saturday night for ice cream around 7:00 PM while visiting home, but after we ate dinner at an Italian restaurant. This was just one of those things we wanted to check off the to do list while visiting home from FL. IMO, the meals at Friendly's are just meh, but the ice cream is quite good! We were seated fairly quickly and the waitress came to take our order. The waitress quickly brought us waters and she was pleasant, wish I had caught her name. Our ice cream orders all came out accurately and were delicious. The ice cream here is good and there are so many sundae choices! When I was young, I was very excited to go to Friendly's for those very fun and tasty kids' meals and the Conehead Sundae. Friendly's was also the place to go for ice cream after a large school function. In my teens, I used to single handedly consume a Jim Dandy in under 8 minutes! Ahh, the memories!!! Now older, I still enjoy going to Friendly's for breakfast, dinner, and ice cream. I enjoy having breakfast here with my folks and I always get the Super Sizzlin Combo with a bottomless coffee and the carafe is left at the table (a plus). For dinner, the Clamboat Basket with a Strawberry Fribble and a Happy Ending Sundae is one of my all-time favorite meals at Friendly's. I wish I was a kid again at Friendly's because those Kids Meals look sooo good! The Kids Meals are priced right at $4.99 which includes choice of drink, entree, and kids sundae. If I was 7 years old again, I'd order a kids' strawberry Fribble, Chicken Fingers & Fries and my favorite Cone Head Sundae, and really enjoy it while using my crayons to some coloring, like I did in the 1980s. I tried to be understanding. I did. But I'm done. About 2 months ago, I wanted ice cream. And I remembered that they'd always had a good fried clam platter, so I ordered using DoorDash. They forgot the entree. When the driver handed me a bag, it was pretty obvious there was no dinner. Just a brown bag with my ice cream. Thru Door Dash I reordered the entree, which came without tartar sauce, but I was hungry by this time, and just dealt. Food was okay. Tonight, I gave them a second chance, because yes, I know businesses are struggling. I ordered a shake, ice cream, and the fried clam dinner. And again ..no clams. A bag with ice cream and the shake. No straw, either. This time I just opted for the credit, because I can't be bothered. I get that delivery is new and painful (altho we're now how many months into covid?), but if you can't get the basics and remember the entree, you don't stand a chance. read more

Yup, it's a Friendly's. They're hard to find around the capital region. This one is located on the scenic route 4 (I'm being sarcastic. Many big trucks and lots of traffic to look at while you eat. Not very scenic). There are no dividers between the rows of booths so it's kind of awkward if there are people sitting across from you and talking. I heard some stories while eating that weren't very appetizing . I was very happy with the service. I believe her name was Ronna. She was funny and attentive! Breakfast was good. If you want to eat this food definitely go in to the restaurant. That way when they don't bring out all of the food they can fix it. I've always liked Friendly's but they really should have closed this location instead of both of the ones in Latham. It's located in the most ghetto shopping plaza in Troy so obviously a bunch of the customers are going to be just as ghetto. There were two little kids yelling and running back and forth down the aisle banging on tables and seats for most of our meal without the parents or any staff saying anything. I understand kids crying or misbehaving a little bit and its to be expected at such a kid-friendly place but this was outta control. After they left it was quiet and more enjoyable. I have never seen waitresses that are this racist, disrespectful, and unprofessional. My experience in this restaurant today was one of utter shock, and hurt. A note to the manager: You should hire an entire new staff because the current ones don't have bare minimum human communication and kindness skills. I walked into the restaurant at 8:15 pm and told the waitress that we will be a party of 16 and we'll just be getting ice cream. She rolls her eyes at me, turns around, looks at the employee that is passing by, and says "They're going to be 16 people and they're JUST having ice cream, I can't believe it" with a full smirk and disdain on her face. I am right behind her, and hear her very clearly. At that point, it is already off to an extremely unprofessional and disrespectful start. She puts the menus, comes back, says the tables are that way and they're ready. I say, "thank you", and walk towards the table with my friends. We had three tables set up with six chairs each, and there were three people in the last table , so for them to be part of the bigger crowd, they pulled their chairs to the end of the two other tables. The waitress comes around and tells us, "We can't have chairs at the end of the tables because that blocks the pathway". The three people move back to the other table. At 8:25 , another waitress comes with glasses of water for the three tables. I ask her, how long it will take to get the ice creams, because we have to leave by 8:50, and I want to know if we should do to go orders instead. With an attitude, she says "It's ice cream, it doesn't take long". At 8:58, there isn't a single ice cream on any of the three tables. Which I understand if they are busy, it happens, it's a restaurant, so I get up to ask if they're almost ready or if it's going to take much longer because we have to leave soon so I just need to know if we should have them to go orders instead. I go over to the side counter, see the waitress that took the order, and ask her how much longer she thinks it will be. On my right side, the waitress that seated us comes and puts her hands up in the air and raises her voice to me while cringing her eyebrows, and says "We had other online orders come in". And I say, "Okay I just wanted to know how much longer they're taking so I can take them to go". She says, "I'm gonno need you to step outside of the line". I didn't even realize there was a line, or that it was a staff only hall. So I step outside the line, and I say, "Okay, but you guys said it wouldn't take long and I just want to know how much longer", she keeps repeating "I need you to step outside the line", and I say, "I'm already outside the line". She looks at me with disdain on her face, as if she isn't the one who needs to be properly talking, and communicating to a customer's needs, and perhaps even apologize for the wait. NO. She chose to focus on stepping outside of the line, and when I did, had absolutely nothing to say to the way she raised her voice at me, and disrespected me. I tell them "Okay please cancel all the orders", as they give me absolutely no indication of how much longer it will be, which is the whole reason I went up to the counter for. All she says is, "Okay good". I go back to my friends, and tell them "We're leaving". We all step outside, and they ask me what has happened, and I tell them, and they all can't believe the way she treated me and go inside to defend me. Both the waitresses SCREAM at us, and talk to us in a manner that no human being should talk to a customer to. As I walk out, I tell her a summary of what she has done and advice her to take kindness classes. She yells at me more in response. I walk out. She comes after me, and my friends at the door, and tells us to GET OUT. We are already out. She says GET OUT OF MY PLAZA. It is not your plaza. A note to the owner of the plaza: Someone is delusional about owning your plaza, I would look into that as well, she may need to receive immediate psychological services. Be kind, Be well.
