A hair in my ice cream. Disgusting... the people in particular the guy with tons of hair needs it all up.. very unsanitary

Had dinner and ice cream at this Friendly's last night. As much as we are frustrated by the service at this restaurant, we do enjoy the ice cream so we try to make it work. In balance, this time, we have to report that our waiter, Chris, was hands down the best waiter we have had at this restaurant in all the times we have visited. Thank goodness they have at least one waiter who understands customer service and is responsive. Amazingly, to all of us, the Ziosk actually printed a receipt this time! read more

Place honestly looked like a bomb went off when we arrived at 10p on a Friday, fries and food strewn about the dining room floor, dirty and broken bathrooms. Why they have iPads at every table at what's supposed to be a family restaurant puzzles me. Guess it was supposed to speed up the ordering process but in reality added no value and distracted from the dining experience. Hadn't been to a Friendly's in about 10 years and all the positive experiences were brought into question with this one visit. Upper management at Friendly's needs to help this location out and rethink their strategy. read more

Sometimes you don't want to have fast food or go to a fine dining restaurant and wait a lot for your quick bite. This is where diners come in handy, friendly's is to me like a diner but with very good dessert options. People who work here are very friendly; to the extent I custom made side order of my burger to get mozarella sticks instead of fries and they accomodated my wired taste bud. Horrible service. Employees do not acknowledge your presence and simply walk right by you. Customers will wait forever to order anything "to go", especially if Nick is working the front counter. He is the worst when it comes to acknowledging customers and he cannot multitask to save his life! The servers in general are rude and talk about their customers in the kitchen. I've heard them! Bill the manager has no customer service skills whatsoever and should be fired immediately. Additionally, this restaurant is always a mess, leaving me wondering how in the world they even pass regular health inspections. Save your money and go somewhere else, where employees value their paying customers. I personally will not go back to the Hoosick Street location until they are under new management and the staff has been fully re-trained. read more

If 0 stars was an option, I would select it. The whole experience was horrible, from the moment we walked in to the second the manager walked us out telling us to "leave her plaza". Upon our arrival the worker rolled her eyes at us. We waited 35 minutes for our ice cream after the server told us that they would be done within 20 minutes. When we asked how long the ice cream was going to take and if we could them to go and the server was being very rude. The manager was very unprofessional and disrespectful. She got in our faces telling us to leave when we were just trying to talk about what happened. We told her that she should talk to people with respect and she responded "you to" when we were trying to be as respectful as we could in that situation. Friendly's is an below average chain restaurant and it's not worth eating at. Nothing here is good, except the ice cream. I ordered the mozzarella sticks and they were chewy and undercooked. The burgers are bad, they have little flavor and are usually overcooked. The fries are generic and have no flavor. The ice cream is the only good thing to eat here. It is creamy and flavorful. The price is expensive, a whole meal is $20 and it's low quality food. Overall, Friendly's is not worth the price for the low quality food. read more

I ate here on a Friday at 3pm. The service was so slow. She took a while to take our order, then left the menus. 6 minutes later she came back with our water but still left the menus. After waiting 20 minutes for the food she still hadn't brought out our silver ware. We had to get our own. She came back 5 minutes after having brought out our food with the silverware. She then asked if we would be having dessert. I have barely eaten my sandwich and you want to know if I want dessert? She then brought our check wile we were still eating. I got a half tuna melt and salad, the tuna salad was cold. The bread was toasted nicely. My friend got the turkey melt. It had one piece of turkey. Very lack luster. I would not eat here again. I gave it 2 stars and not 1 because I have a feeling their ice cream is good. read more

I love Friendly's. The place holds a lot of childhood memories for me. And I love their Reese's Pieces Sundae. Luckily for me, my step-daughter was in town and also loves Friendly's. We spent some days going out to lunch and came here as it's one of the last Friendly's in the area. You'll find this place located in the corner of a strip mall, but don't let that stop you from coming here. Every time my step-daughter and I came here, I think about 3 times in the past month, we received great service. We were there during lunch time and surprisingly, the place was still pretty busy. Our waitresses were friendly and attentive and polite. When a cherry rolled off an ice cream on the way to the table, it was promptly replaced by a cup with 3 additional cherries in it! Overall, for knowing it is a chain, I was pleased with their service and their food. I am a sucker for a Friendly's sundae and will definitely be back again for another sundae! read more

I've always been a fan of Friendly's in general, but ever since their Route 9 location closed, I frequent this location. I always ask for Catherine, she takes amazing care of her customers and is such a sweetheart. The food, while of course isn't the greatest quality, I get the same thing each time, and am always satisfied. Their ice cream is always delicious as well. There are a few other servers who are great too, but most other staff look and act like they haven't even graduated high school and lack customer service skills. The location isn't the greatest, and most clientele are a reflection of that, but the restaurant recently renovated, and does look more updated and clean. read more

Not the cleanliest place I've been to - but the waitress was friendly. Menu items all have calorie content next to them, which I found helpful but it's difficult to find a meal under 1,000cal :/ They have a couple of lighter options but it would be nice if they could expand that. I ordered the apple harvest chicken salad with dressing on the side, the chicken was hot and tasty - well coooked and I was somewhat impressed. Because I went low cal on dinner I of course had to try their famous ice cream. Went with the $9.99 Create Your Own (which got me the entree, drink, and Happy Ending Sundae - what a good deal!). Had the Hunka Chunka PB Fudge with marshmallow topping. I must say it was divine. They could do a bit to update their decor and clean up the place - but otherwise IMO the food, ice cream, and service are good. read more

I wish 0 stars was an option but I guess I'm going to have to settle for 1. My experience couldn't have gone any worse than it did tonight. To start off, I came to this location a week ago and the group of people I came with received unnecessary attitude because we "ordered at the wrong counter", but I never wrote a review on that and let it go by. However, what I experienced tonight was absolutely unacceptable, and I refuse to let these workers get away with their behavior. I came in today with a large group of other girls, we were around 15-16 people. Off the bat, when we came in and requested seating, we got a comment of "16 people? Only ice cream?" In a very condescending tone, along with an eye roll. Ok fine, let's brush past it. We get seated, we all order, and one of my friends asks if the ice cream will be ready by 8:50 (keep in mind it was 8:25 when we asked) and the server, again with astronomical amounts of attitude responds with "it's just ice cream, it's not going to take long" fast forward 35 minutes later, it's now 9 and not a single one of us has received our ice cream. The same friend goes up to ask how much longer it was going to take, by which the same server responds once again with attitude telling her she had other orders to take care of, and demanding her to "step out of line" with hang gestures and an aggressive demeanor. My friend, rightfully, came back to us and told us that we were cancelling the order and leaving. We had been waiting 35 minutes for ice cream that we were promised would be done by a certain time, and when asking a simple question got a stank face and trashy reply in return. We all get up and exit the restaurant, and my friend explains to everyone what had been happening the past 35 minutes. We all got upset, and went back inside to have a word with the worker. We asked her, politely may I add, what the problem was and why she was being so rude and disrespectful the whole night, to which a whole back and forth broke out. Another waitress came up and the both of them start arguing with us, and we had an argument for another 5 minutes, in which the waitresses eventually got all up in our faces and got very aggressive, telling us to leave and completely dismissing the fact that they were both in absolutely unprofessional state of minds, and that their customer service had been unacceptable the whole night. We all left, will never be coming back, and we will all be rating this location a 1/5 stars. We talked to some friends about it, and found out that they too have had similar experiences with those servers being rude and disrespectful, and we even found out that these same workers were trash talking us prior to any argument taking place, back when we were seated and just patiently waiting for our orders. I would recommend getting rid of those 2 servers, as their repetitive rude behavior will continue making this location loose customers. Thank you. read more

This restaurant needs organization... they have 3 cooks with no order of who does what. They are now part of grub hub with a tiny kitchen. They can't handle being part of grub hub,it overwhelmed them.I witnessed 1 take out order being returned, and being sat next to the kitchen I over herd the manager say they made this order twice.I sat there for 40 minutes before getting my order. I witnessed a sit down costumer return her order twice, and 1 family of 4 leave because they were not waited on after 20 minutes of being seated. read more

If your going for takeout you'll be waiting forever. The people don't acknowledge you till 20mins after your standing there. The staff is rude. I ordered a grilled Caesar salad to go and when I opened it up at home the salad was drenched in Caesar dressing it was disgusting. I called the restaurant to ask why hadn't they put the dressing on the side since it was a to go order and not going to be eaten right away and putting the dressing will make it soggy. I've worked at restaurants and this is a rule, you don't put dressing on a to go salad. I got attitude from the person on the phone and the manager. After they said they will remake it when I came back I had to wait nearly 30 mins for a salad and they all seemed to have an attitude. Not returning to this Friendly's ever! read more

We loved the Friendly's in East Greenbush but they have closed so we decided to give the one in Troy a try. Big mistake! Sat us down took forever for someone to come over to take our order. Food came to us and my son's Mac and cheese was literally ice cold as was my husbands food. Almost like it just came out of a refrigerator. My daughter and I ate our food. When we were done my son and husband' s warmed up came. Did I mention it took 5 minutes into the meal for us to get silver ware. Then the waitress could not figure out our coupon. Eventually the manager comes over and does the coupon wrong. Then another manager comes over after I point that out and she basically just says oh well. Then we get home and our daughter goes running into the bathroom. Buffalo chicken tenders went right though her. Terrible service. If I could give a half star I would. Real shame! read more

Food was yummy for the price but the service was awful. Her name was trinity i think, blonde girl. She left our menus on our table til long after we ordered our meals, i had to bring them up to the hostess stand myself. She then proceeded to bring us forks and napkins and couldnt be bothered to pass them out, just tossed em in a pile on our table. We found a dirty one and the rest were wet making our napkins useless. It took almost half an hour for 4 sundaes and she gave us 6 spoons, again in the middle of our table, 3 of which were filthy, one with hotfudge stuck all over it. She rolled her eyes everytime she was asked for anything and was obviously miserable and flustered. All i have to say is if she doesnt wanna be a server she shouldnt, cause she is god awful at it. After going to hoosick friendlys since childhood i wanted to bring my kids and have that experience with them, i am disappointed and slightly heartbroken about how far this once great place has fallen. read more

The customer service at this place was unbelievably bad. We waited almost ten minutes just to be seated. The manager came out from the back and proceeded to take almost another ten minutes to grab menus and find a clean table when there were at least three clean tables in the immediate vicinity. This place is awful. I watched a young waitress after watching her handle dirty plates and money grab a handful of nuts with her bare hand to place on a sundae for a customer...even though an obviously red scooper was available in plain site. I was there to order takeout shakes. As I stand there waiting for my order, I noticed she had messed up my order, she tosses all of it out violently and starts it over again. She then turns to her fellow employee when I'm only a mere 5 feet away at the cashier and comments who the F*#K puts XXX in a F&&King sundae. I was mortified to hear this..especially since she said it loud enough for everyone to hear. Then she packages my order then proceeds the counter with a friendly smile like nothing happened. I went here for lunch today. There was a TWENTY MINUTE wait for a table at 12:30 in the middle of about a 2-3 inch snow squall... which was just fascinating to me at a Friendly's on a Wednesday. Anyway, the servers were definitely busting their humps as they seemed short staffed and quite frazzled at handling so many diners. They did a good job given the circumstances. The food? Meh... their ice cream is always solid but I made the mistake of ordering a salad and I got a few unappetizing brown pieces of lettuce. The chicken noodle soup was warm, not piping hot... but it was fine. The more typical unhealthy items like the clamboat are a lot tastier - they just require grilling or frying so there is less to mess up. Overall, they are better than Denny's/IHOP for sure, the ice cream is a nice plus, and the staff at this location is very nice. Stick to the fried stuff, burgers, and ice cream, and you'll be fine. read more

I went there last night. Service was bad. I am not going to assume it is always bad. It may just be the waitress we had. She was very indifferent and slow (from the beginning of the meal to the end). Spent most of the time chatting away with coworkers in clear sight (while we waited for her to take our orders, bring the check, take the card etc) and she tossed plates onto the table when she brought them. The point in calling for pickup is to avoid wait times. Well after waiting 10 minutes in the donning room I was told go wait in the long line at the fountain counter and proceeded to wait another 10 minutes before being spoken to and another 10 for my food. For a half hour wait I could have went and sat down and been served. Confused chaotic things not ready even though I waited. The manager should be embarrassed! This is why people are against $15 an hour for jobs that don't demand anything other than common courtesy and sense! Not to mention my loaded waffle fries only came with cheese, but I was conveniently charged accurately. read more

I am a neighbor of Hoosick St.Friendly's. Today, I visited Big Lots in the same shopping center and offered to treat my friend to breakfast at Friendly's. Of course, there is major renovation going on but that is not an issue. The staff member who seated us indicated a booth behind a large and quite loud party. I asked to sit elsewhere and was led to a more distant table. She served us coffee and indicated that our server would be right with us. In the meantime, there was a waitress sitting side-saddle in a booth opposite the loud party and she matched their volume as they continued the loud conversation. And...A party was seated within 5 feet of our table. The party consisted of grand-parents, dad, and two young children. Amazing! They carried on a lively conversation and interaction with active children without the slightest interference with my conversation with my friend. The waitress served our meals and with two empty coffee cups in front of her, asked if there was anything else we needed. Throughout my entire meal (during which I had to get salt and jelly from adjoining tables) the "manager" (?), waitresses, cook, etc. were yelling back and forth in the kitchen with idle conversation which filled the entire dining room. Total intrusion in the entire room. I gave the waitress a low (10%) tip and complimented the grand parents and dad for the extremely well behaved children. Sorry I can't compliment Friendly's. Friendly's food is still totally acceptable but as long as there is a loud and intrusive staff who is unaware of standard supplies on a table and ignores empty coffee cups, I guess I'll eat elsewhere. read more

For a place called Friendly's I'm unimpressed by their hospitality. I went in on a Monday late morning, I was ignored until I asked to be seated, and the server had the nerve to say she didn't know if I wanted to be seated. My actual waiter was also not much friendly, didn't seem happy to be doing the job serving me with a frown. When I arrived, I was seated promptly by a very friendly hostess. I ordered a Diet Coke. Which was brought promptly. Upon tasting it like realized it was not diet. A server came to take my order she was totally unfriendly. Never smiled or even said hello. I ordered chowder and a crispy chicken salad. The Chowder was really quite tasty. The chicken salad came the chicken salad came and was very good although much smaller than I would have expected for a $10 dinner salad. I had ice cream for dessert a friendly specialty. Very good small Sunday just what I wanted was served with a long plastic iced tea spoon. This broke on the 1st Taste of the ice cream. Luckily all my dirty dishes were still here so I was able to use the spoon from my soup.. It is the end of the meal all of my dirty dishes are still here nothing has been removed. The server came by and told me that my bill would appear on the table display. I did pay it on the display however my usual 20 to 25% tip was reduced to 15 through to the poor service. My rating of a 1 is totally due to the really lousy service read more
