    Booths at Friendly's

When my husband suggested we go to Friendly's in Troy, he had one mission. He wanted to pick up a half gallon of pistachio ice cream. It doesn't seem to be available at grocery stores. We were hungry, too. So we decided to do lunch. What fun to sit in the booths that look like a blast from the past. Between the decor and the wall art, the place was full of nostalgia. It's been a long time since I've eaten at a Friendly's. I was sad when so many of them closed years ago. I don't remember the meals being so high in calories, but I think the menus didn't use to list the calorie counts. I picked the Pastrami Supermelt which I remember being listed at over 1000 calories. It was actually a grilled cheese sandwich loaded with pastrami and coleslaw. It came with a side of fries, but I was allowed to substitute broccoli. Wow. It was a big, rich meal. I couldn't finish it. Some large families showed up for lunch. From what I could see, we had only one server. His name was Dave. He was very nice and extremely professional. The kitchen wasn't very fast, but Dave was good at multi-tasking and seemed to have everything under control. Before we left, we asked about the ice cream. Dave checked for us. He said they'd sold out of all their pistachio ice cream in pre-packed half gallon containers. Instead, he had a colleague hand pack some pistachio ice cream for us to bring home. It tasted great. My husband was happy.

they were great at my sons 15th birthday. He had a blast and they made him feel welcomed. The food was absolutely fantastic. The nosie level was great could not hear the people at the table next to us

    20% of $32.37 isn't $10.92

We use to love Friendly's but after our last dinner there, we were not happy. Service was great but the food portion and size of burger has gotten so small, It's not worth the price. Also they took off the mini mozzarella sticks as an appetizer. But the big problem that made me write this review was the receipt that had the suggested tip. If you don't pay attention to it you are paying over 33% when it says 20%. I know it say suggested but 20% is not $10.92 it should be $6.47. Cheesecake Factory was sued over this.

Friendly's has a reputation among many Capital Region residents for not having the greatest service, which will make you want to rip your hair out when dining out with kids. I had witnessed it in the past at other locations, but I'm happy to report that we had a satisfactory experience while here last month. We stopped in on a Saturday night for ice cream around 7:00 PM while visiting home, but after we ate dinner at an Italian restaurant. This was just one of those things we wanted to check off the to do list while visiting home from FL. IMO, the meals at Friendly's are just meh, but the ice cream is quite good! We were seated fairly quickly and the waitress came to take our order. The waitress quickly brought us waters and she was pleasant, wish I had caught her name. Our ice cream orders all came out accurately and were delicious. The ice cream here is good and there are so many sundae choices! This is a very kid friendly location This restaurant is located in a plaza with ample parking and various other businesses.

It was darkly lit inside (with pinkish/red lights no less); it was extremely loud to the point that I had trouble understanding what my wife was saying (which might not be the background music!); and the prices were expensive. The entire night they played 1980s New-wave British music which I don't mind, but had it been something I detest I would have lost my mind. We were seated at a tiny table with a small candle which provided some actual heat on the cold winter night. Our server was extremely helpful and though he didn't have all the answers he did offer to go and find out. They have a long menu but it doesn't have a lot of food options on it, with most of the pages devoted to alcohol. They had only one dessert option when we were there. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak with fries, mushroom sauce, and green salad (about $40 each). Hanger steak is my favorite cut and hard to find so I jumped on it. Food came out in about 25 minutes, which is amazing considering how small their kitchen is. The steak was cooked perfectly (they didn't ask how we wanted it), smothered in a lovely mushroom sauce, and covered an ample portion of crispy homemade fries which were so good I would have thought them bagged frozen items. Even the basic salad which was just various types of lettuce was great. They aren't cheap, but they are focusing on "farm to table" and that means quality food at commensurate (fair?) prices. Burgers and chicken sandwiches are $15, so if you want something lighter but still tasty you can go that route. Speaking of light, if you go into the bathroom on the right you will find a cold, dark, tiny room lit solely by a PINK bulb. It feels like being on a spaceship (as if I know what that is like), and after when you leave seeing the main light in the restaurant is very jarring. It was a fun experience but not inexpensive and not one that checks the boxes that I look for in a restaurant. Dark, loud, and cramped might be hip for the young or "save the earth" crowd, but I am too old to give up creature comforts for such things. The food, though expensive, was absolutely outstanding in every way though and I won't forget that steak for a long time.

The Roosevelt Room in Troy was a great experience from start to finish. I was honestly expecting a standalone building, but it is tucked into a strip mall near HVCC. That said, parking was easy and stress free, which is always a plus. This was our first visit as a party of four, and the service was superb. The attention to detail really stood out and was noticed immediately. Our waitress checked in at the right times, kept drinks filled, and made sure everything came out exactly as expected. Meals are made to order, so substitutions were no issue at all, and it was nice to see gluten free options available. When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away. It did not seem necessary on this particular evening, but I would definitely recommend them on a weekend given the size of the space. The food itself was excellent. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and the presentation across the board was impressive. Desserts are prepared by a pastry chef and were just as good as the rest of the meal. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that is to be expected for the level of service and atmosphere. This feels like a special occasion type of place, and in that context, it is worth every penny. We really enjoyed our night and would absolutely come back. There was also a sign mentioning live jazz on Fridays, which sounds like a great added touch. Overall, a very strong 5 stars.

This is a lost service in the restaurant industry, but a lovely touch. We were seated in, what can only be described as, a room with phenomenal atmosphere. Low light, but you could see, comfortable seating, amazing art on the walls, and a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. The service was top notch. We were offered water immediately. They have a cocktail menu that included historical cocktails dating back to the 19th Century until present day. The cocktails were perfect. We had pre-ordered a half bottle of champagne. It was very good. We also ordered caviar service. It is 1 ounce with sour cream, egg whites, yolks, and onions. Fresh made Bellinis that were still warm. We enjoyed it immensely. It was a lovely compliment to the champagne. For an appetizer we enjoyed the escargot. We have had escargot in many places, rarely, if ever, was it as good at this was. The garlic butter was on point, the crusty bread was a great addition to the dish. It was served with tiny leaves of Swiss chard. We cannot recommend this enough. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon from their extensive wine list, Stag's Leap. This wine paired perfectly with the filet mignon bordelaise, and the veal chop with cherry peppers. We had a visit with the chef, he was a wonderful representative of this amazing restaurant. We cannot recommend this place enough. It's a little spendy, but worth every penny. Service, 5 stars! Atmosphere, 5 stars! Food, better than 5 stars! We will definitely be back.

Lucas Confectionary has such a warm, inviting vibe all around. It may not be a one stop dinner spot, but it is an amazing pre-dinner stop for some drinks and appetite inducing snacks. With the extremely limited menu and offerings, you expect everything to be thoughtful and serve a purpose, and they deliver. For my drink, I ordered one of the red blends and it was very good for sipping along side a board of charcuterie and cheese My small group opted for the "pick three" option for a board. We ordered the manchego, smoked duck breast, and the pâté. It was a superb plate. The manchego was salty and funky, offered with dried apricots. The pate was rich and fatty, offered with whole grain mustard, pickled onions and cornichons. The smoked duck was offered with a blueberry-mustard compote. Also all accompanied with some nice fresh bread. Each flavor served a purposed and made for several tasty bites that piqued my interest. For a pre-dinner stop, I was very impressed. Also, sad to see this location absolutely empty on a Saturday evening. Lucas Confectioary is a perfect spot for an intimate date night, meeting friends, an after work drink, girls night, etc. Highly recommend a visit here!

I've been to Innovo Kitchen in Latham several times over the years and I've enjoyed it every time. They have a unique menu that changes periodically, but I always find something that catches my eye. The interior has an industrial feel which I like, with a lot of exposed brick. The tables are made from old bowling lane wood, which is a really cool touch. When you walk in there is also a bowling pin displayed in a glass case. I remember there being a bowling alley somewhere in that plaza when I was a kid, so it seems likely the building has some history tied to that. The tables are also nice and large, which makes the dining experience more comfortable. Tonight I ordered the Monte Cristo burger which is described as battered Buckley's Bread sourdough, a 6 oz special grind burger, Taylor pork roll, Swiss, and Twin Leaf Farms maple aioli. It was quite tasty and I really enjoyed the hint of maple syrup flavor on the burger. The crinkle cut fries that came with it were also very good. Another person in our party ordered the White Chicken Parmesan, described as a crisp chicken cutlet topped with ricotta and garlic spinach and fresh mozzarella, with garlic parmesan cream and lumache pasta. They said it was delicious. Someone else had the Crispy Skin Salmon and enjoyed that as well. A child at our table ordered macaroni with red sauce. The portion was surprisingly large and they liked it, which is impressive because they are particularly finicky. For dessert we ordered something we've had here several times before, the peanut butter mud pie. It's basically ice cream in pie form with an Oreo cookie crust and chocolate fudge. It's very tasty and also a generous portion. At the end of your meal they also offer everyone at the table a tasty piece of gourmet chocolate. One thing that really stood out tonight was the attentiveness of the management. Two different managers stopped by our table at different times to check and make sure everything was good. I recognized one of them because I've seen him there before and he always seems to make a point of checking in with guests. The other person had seated us so I initially thought she was the hostess, but after she stopped by during the meal I asked if she was a manager and she confirmed that she was. I mentioned that I was impressed that two different managers had checked on us, and that every time I've dined there a manager has stopped by to make sure everything was good. I thanked her and told her it was appreciated. During the summer and fall they also have a very nice patio area for outdoor dining. On cooler nights they have heaters and a fireplace which makes it a great place to sit outside. I will definitely return here again in the future. 5 stars
