They specifically said that the food quality was very high, the portions were large, and that their seasoned french fries were amazing. It was all true! Ordered to-go... ordered the "egg anyway" or whatever it's called & eggs weren't even seasoned with salt or pepper. Has browns were barely even cooked at all...had a light crisp on top & when I say "light" I truly mean they weren't even on the grill to cook and give a good crisp. Basically tasted like oil & potato with no seasoning either. Bag was full of the toast jelly on the outside which we should have just given a new bag or at least cleaned the bag before being handed to us. I found this place on Yelp, when me and a buddy of mine were trying to find a breakfast place on a Sunday in the Irvine area. This was the third place we traveled to, and fortunately, the wait wasn't as long as the previous two places, so we decided to eat here. The interior is pretty roomy, and could probably accommodate more seating if it was planned a little differently. The menu selection is wide, but is nothing special or out of the ordinary, and comprised common breakfast items (not that this is a negative aspect of the place). I decided to try their freshly squeezed orange juice, and the tuna sandwich, while my friend tried the Denver omelette with hash browns and pancakes, and coffee. Their portions are large, and certainly justifies the price. The quality of the food is good, however, the service could definitely be quicker, in my opinion. I highly recommend Friends Cafe. It was an amazing experience from start to finish. The server Laura greeted us right away and gave us impeccable service all throughout. Everything was fast and delicious. I ordered the popeye omelet that was so good I finished every last bite (which I normally never do). My friend loved her meal as well. She got the Florentine Scramble that came in a skillet and looked divine. She especially enjoyed the salsa that accompanied it and upon saying so they kindly brought her more to enjoy. We were told the pancakes were their specialty and ordered a funky monkey - banana with chocolate chips. It did not disappoint. Definitely get their pancakes - so delicious. The owner Geoff couldn't have been kinder or more hospitable. He went around greeting all the guests and you could tell he had a personal connection with many repeat customers. I love this place. I like to go to Yelp, and find "New Businesses". This restaurant came up, and I bookmarked it. My boyfriend and I went around 8am on Sunday morning. The place was about half full, but no waiting (*think still new, people have not discovered it yet...bet there will be soon). The owner sat us down in booth. But, my boyfriend and I (not on the skinny side) could not fit in the booth comfortably, so we moved to table nearby. We were greeted by our very friendly waitress, Tracy! We asked how long have they been open, and she said just over a week. She just started herself that week. We told her she was doing great so far, so cheery, and got our coffee and waters really quickly! My boyfriend got one of their omelets (where are 3 eggs, by the way) with sausage and it comes with hashbrowns and toast. I got the Country fried steak and eggs with hash browns, and I got English muffin. As we were sitting, waiting for our food, we were watching the owner, and the waitresses take the prepared orders from the window and deliver them to the tables. It is very open inside restaurant (*think they have room for some more tables for 2 next to tables of 4, lots of open floor, and may start getting busy soon! :)). But, the owner was watching everything that went out, and made sure everything was correct. Every plate that came out looked great (*things to order for next time). Now, my boyfriend and I go to a lot of breakfast places, and NONE were more organized then this place, that just opened. And you will see by the pictures, the plates were immaculate! Hashbrowns were crips, and perfect rectangle shapes. I ordered eggs over medium (which most places get wrong), they did to perfection. And, without having to ask, already on the table, they have Tapitito and Tabasco ! Waitresses were always coming by filing our drinks, making sure we were ok. I had to see what all the hype was about. I shop at Marshalls more than I'd like to admit and Friends Cafe is in the same complex. It had a line, the parking lot was full, and people kept coming back. (because I'm Irish and I have to have anything potato related) The pancakes were huge, and delicious. I tried really hard to finish them but I could only get through half. I stuffed myself with half of my hash browns, but the Irish girl in me wanted more of my banana pancakes instead of my hash browns, WHAT?! That's how good these pancakes were. Is it weird that I'm still dreaming of them? I will be back, I will be known in this place, I will spend all my money here. I'll be back for lunch.
