I really wanted to love the Kashmiri chai, but unfortunately, it was a bit too watery and definitely not that "McDonald's third-degree burn hot" temperature I need my tea to be. That being said, it still actually tasted like home, so they get points for that! As for the snacks--the masala chips were absolutely happening! But the samosas? Abysmal. Total letdown. Let's talk food first. The butter chicken and paneer tikka masala is a bit of a joke. It's more like white rice and flour burrito laced with some chicken and paneer and a whiff of masala. I would give both a pass. The cardamom iced tea was nice. As was the rasmalai cake. The gulab jamun cheesecake is sweet enough to put one in a diabetic coma. Give that a pass. I was very excited to try this place since there are not many places like this around Orange County. I was even more excited to try the butter chicken burrito! The place is perfectly located near the Orange circle neighborhood. It's great for a day out, walk around and check out the small shops, buy plants, get dessert or drinks, or check out the farmer's market if you come on the weekend mornings. Even better is that it's located on the corner and has nice indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were just okay, nobody rude but nobody friendly. When I asked one question about the drinks, the guy looked exasperated to have to explain to me the differences. I didn't dare ask for a recommendation. My order was incorrect, maybe he really didn't want to listen to me, or it was an error with whoever made it. It's not that big of a deal but I wanted my chai hot and it came out iced, but the ice was already melted so it was watered down. The flavor is average, not enough depth or complexity but who knows, maybe because it was watered down from the melted ice. Also tried the chicken butter burrito and it was good but it definitely needs to be upgraded. The tortilla was warm and just crispy enough where they heated it, but not burnt. The butter chicken flavor was not complex but it was still delicious. The downside is that the only other filling in the burrito is rice and the rice was undercooked. It would have been WAY better with much less rice, add potatoes and dare I say, a few tomatoes? Honestly, their uniqueness in this community saved them, because this place based on this experience was average/3 stars. But I'm only knocking off 1 star because I'd really like them to stay here, and hopefully continue to improve and blow my socks off next time I'm here. I love how the owners of this place decided to decorate their cafe to make this more interesting. It feels like I've stepped back in time. First off, the TVs have the menu. The way it was shown looks like a newspaper. I feel like I'm reading a newspaper when I was ordering my drink. The emerald green plush seats and benches makes me feel like I'm royalty. The cashier guy was patient with me when my phone decided to log into their WiFi since I turned on the WiFi. I decided to go for the Matcha Rose Latte since I saw some TikTok slideshow on what drink fits best with each Resident Evil character. When it showed Rosemary Winters, it showed that matcha would fit her well since she was in her early teens. Also, this drink from Chaiwale fits her well. I really really want to like this place but somehow it's really hard not to (at the moment). Heard about this place and went here on Sunday late afternoon. They're closed for an hr, for whatever reason. We walked around and ate elsewhere and come back to try the chai kettle and some dessert. Came back and it's opened, the place is packed both inside and outside...they do have both seating inside and outside. Th place is somewhat clean, too many people and lack of cleaning by staff. Staff doesn't seem happy to work there with their long face with no greeting bc nor courtesy manner. Heard people was telling that the wait is long and they ran out of thing without letting them know and they just sat "no" and that is that. Good variety choices menu. But decided to just ordered a kettle...yes got the long face and no "hi" now "thank you", just the long face expression of "why am I here". Yes we tipped. The interior is quite nice and mixed for Bollywood vibe. Love it here since it's right on the corner of the strip and both street so quite nice. Waited over 25mins from the outside and we moved inside and I asked if it's will be done anytime and got answer "5mins". When they got it, they just called to come over and pick it up. Okey, so glad that I tipped and didn't order more. The drink is fantastic, but the tables are dirty from previous customers, yup we cleaned ourselves. We ordered the mango lassi cheesecake and pistachio cheesecake. Mango Lassi Cheesecake- The cheesecake base is rich and creamy. You get a strong mango flavor go balance it out. I discovered this place from a complimentary Yelp experience a few months ago and absolutely fell in love with the chai and desserts here, so much so that during my last visit, I ordered an entire cake for my in laws anniversary. I called them earlier in the day with this request and I was told that although they typically don't sell the entire cake, they'd be able to accommodate the request with what they had available. I ended up ordering a pistachio cheesecake and omg, I was SO impressed by it!! If you're a pistachio fan like I am, you'll absolutely love it. The cake itself was around $50, which is a bit steep but well worth it for special occasions. You can also buy cake slices, which is a more affordable option. The store itself has a warm and cozy ambiance. Service has been friendly whenever I've been here. Chaiwale is this great shop, which, as the name implies, offer some very good chai. More than just chai, however, they also offer a really good selection of teas, some coffee-orientated drinks, and some soft drinks that are commonly found only in India All of them are very well prepared, and very-very good. More than just drinks, this business also offers a very nice selection of food items. They have things like masala burritos, breakfast burritos, avocado toast, and some very good bakery items. Meaning, you can come in here and really enjoy either a meal, a small snack, all in association with whatever drink you want to consume. In terms of seating, they have some nice space inside. Which is where I always like to sit, because it is air-conditioned and very nicely laid out. I will say one thing to keep in mind is that this is a popular business, so it's not unexpected for it to be fairly full inside. Just keep that in mind. Chaiwale also has a nice selection of outdoor seats. This is a great place to kick back if you want to enjoy the air. Of course, the outdoor seating is based upon the weather. So, if it's raining or really hot, you may not want to sit there. And, of course, this is also a great cafe to grab something to-go. You order and pay at the counter. They give you a number and deliver your drink and food to your table. There's a refrigerator with bottles and canned sodas. If I hadn't already eaten breakfast in the area, I would have grabbed breakfast here, served all day. I did grab a mini chocolate donut. Delicious, moist, and fresh. All their treats look really good. It was difficult to decide. Huge cookies to share and slices from loafs of cakes. I had a 12 oz. Masala Chai with oat milk. It was super hot. It was so hot, I could feel the steam on my hand from the tiny hole of the cover of my cup. I had to take the cover off and let it cool off. I could see the steam rising from my drink. It was my first time here and for this to be a chai forward tea house I expected the chai to be more bold and potent. I was looking forward to the body warming spices in my tea latte. Chaiwale uses actual blends rather than powders/tea bags that other places might opt for, and it really shows through the deep and rich flavor! I tried the karak chai and there were times when it had an almost savory taste to it, it was really interesting and not overly sweet but had a lot of great spice to it. I paired it with the rose pistachio loaf. Usually with rose flavor, the concern is that it will be overly rosy with that artificial floral flavor, but that wasn't the case here. What a delightful and tasteful experience here!! Was in the area after an event and wanted to grab a coffee and stumbled upon this place near the orange circle. So pleasantly surprised when we walked in. They were busy and most tables were occupied. Great sign! We noticed they have indoor and outdoor seating which is a big plus. After browsing the Hilbert Museum, I made my way to try out an Indian café for the first time. I ordered an iced golden latte (12 oz.) ($5.49) with whole milk and rasmalai milk cake ($7.99). The cashier was kind and helpful in explaining the drinks and desserts I had questions about. The golden latte was abundant in flavor, though not excessive. The color presentation popped out even more under sunlight. After I finished the drink, I tried some of the leftover spice at the bottom of the cup, and it was pleasantly earthy and quite savory. While I don't prefer these types of flavors, I still thought the golden latte was solid. I'd want to return to try more of their specialty lattes. The rasmalai milk cake was very filling and sweet. The rasmalai were small and round shapes of curdled milk. The dessert also included saffron and pistachios. I chose this dessert based on what was shown in the display case. While it wasn't exactly my cup of tea, I did enjoy trying this type of cake for the first time. I was able to find a stool to sit on, but the bar table had me facing the sun directly. It would've been nice if there were blinds, especially on a warm and bright day. However, another stool opened up eventually with shade available. Came here and ordered Masala Chai, knafeh brownie, gulab jamun cheesecake, samosas, tandoori chicken burrito, butter chicken burrito, and the chutney sandwich. Cha was mid. Food was just okay overall. Samosas were some of the worst I've ever had. Gulab jamun cheesecake was good. But the customer service was the worst part of this experience. The guy behind the register was extremely rude and demeaning. We asked if they have decaf cha for my mom who can't tolerate caffeine and the guy scoffed and said cha doesn't come decaf, which first of all is not true and second, was such a rude way to respond. My mom then asked about the badam milk and the guy scoffed again saying it was a children's drink, so she didn't order anything. My brother went back to order a few more things and when he asked how big the sandwich was, the guy laughed and said "a sandwich is a sandwich", like lol what?? They also made us come to get most of our items. The table was dirty and when asked if it could be cleared off, I was told okay very rudely and then the request was ignored. The dirty plates from the previous people stayed there as our orders kept coming out. As someone who has worked in the food service industry, I go out of my way to make sure I treat people behind the counter with kindness and respect, so to be treated so disrespectfully was such a disappointing experience. I ordered the Cardamom Chai and I wish there was more of a stronger chia flavor. I ordered it with regular milk and maybe the milk diluted the flavor a bit.
