Ordered pick up from this place the other day due to an ice rice cravings (my go to place is closed on Thursdays). So, my boyfriend and I decided to check out the ice rice from this place as well as a couple of other items. Firstly, I got deep fried rice cake skewers. They were just okay because I was expecting some kind of crunch after seeing deep fried. However, there was no crunch at all and it was a little lacking in flavor. I did enjoy it though because it still had a very chewy texture which was what I was looking for. The chicken skewers I liked a lot better. The chicken was tender and although also more lightly seasoned than places, I really enjoyed it! My boyfriend wanted to try the Udon Noodles from the menu as well which I was pleasantly surprised with. The udon noodles were perfectly bouncy and did not feel too oily. And for the star of the show, we got the Milk Tea Chilled Ice. It came with a lot of toppings on the rice varying from taro mochi to herbal jelly and watermelons which were all delicious. The milk tea base is a light Earl Grey Milk Tea and being someone who struggles with black tea sometimes, this black tea was really good! It was nicely floral from the earl grey but not bitter at all! I will definitely be back again to try out a couple more items since they do close pretty late as well. You walk into the lower level of this 2 tier restaurant with hot pot upstairs and barbecued skewers downstairs. Do your check-ins before you enter because it's a data dead zone down here and post your pictures when you get home. The menu/ordering is on electronic tablet, though you can also give your order to a server. Most meat/seafood skewers come in multiples per order so be careful how you order. You can easily get carried away when ordering because everything looks so good and you'll rack up a big bill. Every table is equipped with a box and foiled grate that is heated by 2 votive candles underneath. Once in a while, a server walks by and throws a bunch of the skewers you ordered onto the grate and the candles keep them warm. We order the standard meats like beef, chicken, pork & lamb, along with Taiwanese sausage, squid tentacles & fish tofu. The seasoning is a spicy cumin spice blend on almost everything. You can also get vegetable dishes to round out your meal. My wife's favorite is the grilled miso garlic eggplant and we also get my son's favorite, stir-fried pea pod leaves & garlic. Side dishes we liked was the spicy cucumber salad with crunchy peanuts and the egg fried rice, which had really good flavor. (Note that the skewers are prepared in the kitchen so if you are looking to cook your own skewers this is not the spot for you.) a solid place to get skewers! prices are pretty standard, around $2-3 per skewer. my favorite ones are the beef skewers and beef tendon skewers, the flavor is great and the meat is not too tough. the skewers do get cold somewhat fast, even though it's placed on top of mini grill (it's heated by a candle of some sort). the squid skewer was a bit tough and rubbery, not my top recommendation. the hot dishes were surprisingly delicious. the fish fillet w/ sour pickled cabbage was flavorful and tasty, and just the perfect amount of spice for me. one downside is that it is a bit oily. the crispy sweet and sour pork (guobaorou) was unexpectedly one of the best i've had in flushing. it was very crispy, with the perfect combination of sweet and sour. even after half an hr or so, it was still crispy. definitely need rice with it though! there's usually little to no wait time and the service is great, you just order your items on an ipad and they bring it to you. read more

I came here twice in the past two weeks, once with one of my friends and the other time with my fiancé. The service is always top notch. The staff is very friendly and everything runs really smoothly. You order your food on the tablets and then you send your order off to the kitchen within a few minutes they're bringing out your food and putting it on the warming tray so that it can keep warm as you chat and drink. I got the Mongolian beef skewers. I also got lamb and some other skewers accompanied with white rice and an apple Soju. The food was really good. The atmosphere was really nice. Everyone was friendly and this is definitely a cool place to just hang out relax and just chat or stuff your face and drink whatever the decision is it will be a fun time. OK, so I finally decided to stop gatekeeping Friendship BBQ from other Yelpers. I dine here often, like once or twice a month type of often, and love bringing my friends and family. So much so, it's one of the first restaurants I think about when I have visitors in town. The BBQ skewers are my favorite - try everything! The cumin, garlic, spice... all that FLAVOR! This restaurant is a fun alternative to the usual barbeque spots. You order from a QR code and you received skewered meats that stay warm on their little skewer warmers. Make sure you like cumin, though, because nearly all the meat is heavily cumin flavored! Some of our favorite foods were actually not skewers- the cauliflower was really good and so was the fried rice. One thing that's a little difficult is the English menu is not all translated - some of it is only in Chinese, and there aren't pictures for all the items on the menu. Friendship BBQ was super busy on a friday night, as expected but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. The service was nice and quick. The decor was minimal, nothing too special. As for the food we ordered all your classic skewers like sausage, beef, intestines etc. which were all very solid. But we really came for some of their other dishes as well. We got the square toast, the fried rice, green beans and their milk tea dessert bowl. The square toast was fine, I wish they had a bigger scoop of ice cream on there but it was good with the condensed milk but the other syrup was too sweet. The fried rice was solid as well, it's very very simple but good for when you're eating skewers. The green beans were seasoned very well and I really liked the texture of them. This place was amazing. Good food and fun atmosphere. Wish we discovered it earlier. It's located downstairs of the Liu Yi Shou hot pot place. The skewers are made to order and brought out of the kitchen already grilled so there's no smoke or BBQ on the table. There's just a rack with tea lights to keep it warm while you eat. The pricing for each meat is very reasonable and the quality is pretty good. Everything is seasoned very well and cooked thoroughly. I loved the cumin lamb and the chicken heart skewers. The wagyu beef one was good also. What surprised me was the stir fry morning glory vegetable dish. It was perfectly cooked, not salty and very fresh. Loved it! Good addition of veggies for all the protein intake. I also got a steamed Scallop with vermicelli and black bean sauce. As a group of 5 with young children, we were seated at the corner seat which was further from the entrance and kitchen. The waiter barely showed up to check on us and we could only get serviced when waiters/waitresses walked by to service customers next to us. The stick beefs and lambs were delicious, but it took them almost 20 minutes to prepare the food. The meat were cooked just right, not too chewy for the kids at all. I've been to friendship BBQ several times and its always tasty! The first few times I went (pre Covid) were pretty packed and busy, so it always took a while for all our food to come out. I realized I'd actually prefer this though. The recent time I came w my friends, it wasn't tooo crowded. So..... all our skewers came out within minutes of each other. You'd think great, but after 5 minutes, we had a HUGE pile and couldn't even eat that fast! Everything was speeding to our table and eventually things got cold even with the little warmer they use. It's pretty easy to order food, you scan a code and order on your phone. We found it simple to use since all of us could add what we wanted at the same time and it updates in real time on everyone's phone. For example, skins, claws, bones, joints, internal organs (like heart, stomach, intestine), and even blood vessels are welcomed by grassroot consumers. If you are brave enough to try them, they are very chewy because of rich texture of muscle and tender, juicy because of rich fat, and delicious with chili, cumin and other spices or sauces. - Casualty: bbq is not fine-dining, but originated from the daily lives of Chinese communities. It is a perfect circumstance to share food with friends, have some beer or drinks, and make interesting dialogues. In this environment, the presence of service should be minimized, but you want to make sure the customers have everything they may need quite accessible for them. Enjoying this aspect of culture is also an important takeaway from Chinese bbq especially for non-Chinese customers. My experience at Friendship Foods BBQ perfectly convinced me that these features can be perfectly replicated in a foreign market (though within a Chinatown) across thousands of miles. They serve really classic Chinese bbq which is comparable to the top tier bbq restaurants in China. However, I still find some potential venues for Friendship to further improve. My grading on Friendship bbq over the three dimensions above: - 5/10 for flexibility: unfortunately, I'm not quite satisfied by the flexibility of ordering different skewers here. Many dishes have to be ordered in bundles of 3 skewers or more. The signature desert, "icy rice", comes as a large bowl of rich contents that would actually serve around 2-3 persons, but I would rather prefer smaller and more disaggregated dishes because different customers, even when they come as a group, can have very different preferences. The order system doesn't allow the choice of spiciness separately by each skewer, which is in fact important because (1) different guests on the same table can have different preference, and (2) different ingredients are best match to different spiciness. - 10/10 for variety: the most common "atypical ingredients" are all served here, and I like three specific things I ordered very much, which are not easy to find in other similar restaurants: (1) the Icy Rice dessert, which is not known even to many Chinese customers, originated in a small county named Chang-Le - you will enjoy how different dessert can be served and it perfectly matches the bbq's flavor; (2) the Grilled Beef Marrow, which is the inside part of a beef shank bone, rich in protein, fat and flavors, and is very unique even compared to restaurants in China; (3) the Thick-Cut Grilled Beef Tone, which is among the best grilled beef tones I've ever had, juicy, chewy and delicious. -6/10 for casualty: the presence of staff was a bit too much. In addition to serving the food, they interrupts by changing your dishes, asking if everything's okay, asking for the guests to fill in a feedback card, etc. In contrast, they didn't appear in some circumstance they are actually needed, for example, introducing food to customers who are new to the atypical ingredients when they look at the menu. Some utensils or cleaning supplies are not very accessible to consumers either. I'm therefore only giving the passing grade. To wrap up, it is a Chinese bbq worth trying and I will recommend it to my friends even if they are not Chinese. read more

Each table offers a bottle of hand sanitizer. Service was basically non exist because you scan the QR code to place order. Very limited interaction with server until check out. If you pay cash and follow their wechat and share their business you get a 12% discount. Yelp check in get a soda. Good is decent, the regular 3pieces lamb is a bit dry. But the big lamb skewers are juicy and flavorful just a bit pricy at $3.49 each. Not sure why the Dan Dan noddle is in the soup and serve cold, try to avoid. I don't know what's going on with this place, but I was not impressed at all...maybe the price? But not really. I had a group of four, we ordered a variety of skewers expecting things to come out relatively at the same time / pace. Nearly everything we received was lukewarm, our warming box was never lit, the food came out so sporadically with 10 minute waits in between. I had to constantly ask the staff where the rest of our order was otherwise we were forgotten. The meat skewers themselves were pretty dry. The only one that had any real flavor was the fish tofu skewers. The garlic eggplant was flavorless with the exception of an explosion of spice from the chili peppers they put in the middle. We added on an additional 30 skewers of pork, beef and lamb...every single skewer looked EXACTLY the same, there was no difference in taste or texture. They managed to make every skewer dry. Definitely disappointed in this place. Kind of made sense why it was only 1/2 full on a Saturday night. read more

I believe this was my second time time coming here. The lamb skewers are without question fantastic. They come in two different sizes, Large and Small. I recommend the larger ones which have about 3-4x as much meat on them as the small ones. So you won't need nearly as many. Beware the Dan Dan Noodles are a COLD dish. I personally didn't care for this and o it had a couple of bites, but I know many people enjoy them cold. The restaurant does not have a hot option. I was looking for a place for a quick bite and stumbled upon Friendship Foods BBQ. It is located downstairs of a building that is shared with Liuyishou Hotpot. The smell was intriguing and it was not packed on a Friday afternoon. We got the special Mongolian beef, fatty beef, and the oyster mushroom skewer. The waiter came by after we ordered to light up mini table candles that were set underneath a piece of aluminum foil. Maybe I did not understand the concept, but the skewers came out cold. The candles barely heat up the skewers, and we were eating it at a warm-cold temperature. The skewers were not seasoned well. The best part was the Mongolian beef skewers which came out decently seasoned, but was still warm. I anticipate that the skewers would need to be "grilled" longer in order for them to be hot, but we just did not have the time for that. I went to Friendship BBQ back when it was located on Union St and had a very good experience there. When they moved and opened this location, I was expecting the same quality. It seems that I was mistaken. I ordered different types of meat skewers like the special lamb, chicken gizzard, chicken skin, beef, as well as the sets they offered. I found majority of the skewers that I ordered were extremely salty. On top of that, the chicken skin skewers were not crispy and just felt like you were chewing on fat drippings so I wasn't able finish them. The special lamb skewers on the other hand were thankfully perfectly seasoned. I also ordered the spicy crawfish and found that it was not very fresh. There was a weird aftertaste that just kept appearing from most of the crawfish I tasted. Thankfully, the garlic eggplant that I ordered and tasted was on point. So, I would say that it is a solid choice if you come here.
