If you haven't tried grilling your own meat, you are missing out. This was such a fun experience and it's great being able to cook your food to your own taste. I prefer my beef medium rare so this was just the perfect place for me. They provide the seasonings on the side for you to add and that stuff is crack!! They have an extensive Chinese and Korean menu that I personally have not really explored but the food definitely looks good. I come here for one thing only:skewers This is definitely a hole in the wall type place as you need to walk into a basement to find it. There's only one side of booth seating and it can get pretty toasty with all the grills running. It's a loud and obnoxious restaurant that wreaks of smoke but if you can get past that, you'll get to enjoy a delicious meal. Then add some of their amazing seasoning and enjoy! The most popular choices are usually lamb, beef, and chicken ... ... you should definitely get them. They all taste great, especially the lamb, which is our group's favorite. However, if you are adventurous, go for some of the more odd items on the menu. By that, I don't mean squid legs or fish tofu, which are both delicious btw. I'm talking about chicken heart, beef tendon, lamb kidney, etc. May sound disgusting to some people, but music to my ears, and others who appreciates the unique textures of the food they sample. There is also a huge selection of cooked dishes that are quite good too. On this night, we ordered something resembling fried corn pancake, which was crispy and somewhat addicting. Expected a grilled your own skewer experience. But the initial walk in was awkward, so resulted in being too weirded out to ask about the grill. It was fine, we sat next to a table of six who was having a get together, and they turned to look at us when we walked in real quiet hahaha.... nervously we looked at the menu and decided on what to eat. Its basically the street cart skewers with the same seasoning. The menu is mostly Chinese and Korean but google translate was really useful. We ordered the beef skewers, pork intestines skewers, chicken, lamb, and sausages. The beef, lamb, and sausages were (5/5) amazing , juicy and PACKED with flavor (MUST ORDER). The chicken was (4/5) a little dry because we weren't sure when they were done cooking and wanted to be safe. The pig intestines (3/5) It was very chewy even after grilling and the seasoning didn't hold too well so it wasn't too flavorful. We also got a freebie cold noodle salad dish which was delicious! I love that the local Korean-Chinese family started this neat indoor skewers shop and also serves very traditional and fusion Korean-Chinese dishes family-style. My friends and I came here for dinner on a cold winter day, and ordered about $200 worth of lamb/beef skewers, ala carte vegetable/fish/meat dishes to share among four. I thoroughly enjoyed the charcoal grilling experience at our own pace, which I highly recommend as the main attraction! I loved all the flavors of the dishes ranging from sweet and spicy to savory and spicy. Since it is family-owned, the aunties do not speak fluent English so it helps to have a Chinese/Korean speaker when ordering food and asking for check. We were there for about 2.5 hours and did not feel rushed at all. The space is quite small and gives a very mom-and-pop vibe, not your standard NYC aesthetic/classy dining at all. The entire place feels like a home renovated to a restaurant. The skewer is in the basement and if you order dishes you would be seated on the first floor. Entrance is through the basement door. Amazing experience! If you don't live in the area you are going to want to turn around once you go down to the basement entrance and have a lukewarm greeting. But grab a seat and download google translate for Chinese... We played it safe at first getting the beef skewers and chicken skewers. And then they brought out the charcoal pieces to cook the skewers over. Amazing!! So we added some soju and really went out on a limb and had the pig heart skewers! It turned out to be a great experience that we would have missed if we "read the book by the cover." The waitress really couldn't understand much of what was said, but took us under her wing to teach us how to cook the skewers, dip them in the seasoning, and eat them off the stick! I agree with the other reviewer...if I can give it zero or negative stars I would. Came here due to the good reviews on Yelp. We were a party of 4 and was directed downstairs / basement level. They seated us way back because they said they didn't want our bbq smoke to affect the other tables so we moved. We sat down and there was about 2-3 flies flying around, although that put me off I was still adamant to give the place a try. The waitress came and we asked for menus they give us 2 and when we asked for 2 more she kind of shouted at us why can't we just share...ok, I was still like let me ignore that and looked at the menu. The menu has a lot of food varieties, the back had some beer but their English translation says beef soup which I found funny. We were ready to order when the table next to us started smoking cigarettes, that's when I give up and told my party let's try another place down the block because my friend has asthma and I didn't want to risk it. I was out the door when I realized I left my phone behind and went back in to retrieve it. Another waitress was cleaning up our table (mind you they just give us some water and 2 menus, and a plate of side dishes that we didn't touch) and was mumbling angrily. When she saw me she literally slammed my phone down onto the table. I was really taken aback and explained I was sorry but my friend is very sensitive to smoke and she aggressively yelled back that we just don't want to eat there (I'm thinking, ugh yeah that's why we left?? But isn't it everyone's right to leave if they feel uncomfortable plus we didn't do anything wrong). All in all, I am down for a hole in the wall type of places as long as there's good food but the sanitary issues (flies), cigarette smoke indoor (I didn't see any fire safety things installed and there were plenty of flattened boxes around...fire hazard!) and the nasty attitude I received from the staff is unheard of. This is the place that's for "our own people" type of restaurant. The menu is in Chinese and Korean. The food is the Yanbian style, which is the Chinese-Korean form one of the 56 ethnicities officially recognized by the Chinese government. This makes the food very special, it is the combination of Korean food and North Chinese food. The must eat food in here is the DIY bbq, just make sure that you don't over cook your food. The beef and lamb are delicious and juicy. I personally feels that they tastes better than the cart in Flushing. The owner and the staffs are very friendly, they like to chat with you and teach you how not to burn your BBQ, but I guess it only happens if you speak Chinese or Korean. Went there on a rainy Friday night and there was no wait. Looked like a hole in the wall local korean/chinese place. The menu was mostly in korean/chinese language but thank god for the staff being able to translate. We got 10 sticks of lamb/10 sticks of beef and also the fried sweet & sour fish. First we ordered only 10 sticks but were told 20 was the minimum :( The taste was ok but if you want to safe yourself the trouble of breathing in fossil smoke and getting made to go at the same price (just go to the carts). It was $15 for 10 sticks and fish was $20. Overall a good DIY experience but not on my repeat list. read more

Agree that the place is a little sketchy at first but came with a large group on Saturday for lunch anyways. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant. Still, food was amazing and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We ordered 30 skewers of each the lamb, beef, and chicken + the Gou bao rou, which was perfectly addictive. We said it was our first time doing skewers so they let us cook the beef from raw to finish by ourselves, but helped us with the chicken and lamb skewers, which arrived at our table partially cooked to make sure we couldn't poison ourselves LOL! We received the complimentary free dumplings at the end of the meal (some of which we attempted to roast as well) and they were excellent.
