Literally the worst tacos I've ever had in all of my 27 years of life. I've never had a taco that made me feel depressed. Got a potato and egg and a potato and chorizo. I somehow forced myself to eat the potato and chorizo after the first bite, but couldn't get myself to eat the potato and egg. Please do everyone a public service and fire whoever is making the tortillas. They reek of uncooked flour, the texture was grainy, and the shape was that of a triangle. You're literally better off going to Bill Miller's down the street and just getting tacos from there. Literally, and not over-exaggerating when I say this, those tacos ruined my morning. I love the idea, this place has fast service too. The food is mediocre. The eggs taste like hotel eggs, the ones you add water to make. Defianlty short on flavor here. I added salt just to enjoy my breakfast. There is a plate that caught my eye (Texas syled enchiladas). Maybe I'll come back to try it. I got the menudo soup, chicharron taco, and horchata for lunch today. The menudo was very tender and tasty, but slightly on the salty side (for me). Good to dip corn tortillas into. The taco was not that great as the chicharron was soggy and I was expecting it to be crunchy. The horchata was creamy and served in a 32 oz'er. The ladies at the counter were nice. read more

For two and a half years I worked just a couple miles from Frijoles and I am sad to report that during my tenure down the street I never visited this restaurant; recently work had me back in my old neck of the woods and I stopped in for lunch and I am so mad at myself for having it so close for so long and never eating here! As I stated, I stopped in for a quick lunch and I was blown away at how friendly, fast, and delicious the whole meal was. Walk in and hop in line to the counter, along the way check the daily specials board to see what limited item(s) today's lunch offerings might include. Once you've ordered find a table and wait to pick up your order as you find a seat in the dining area. I opted for their cheese enchiladas plate and it did not disappoint. Tortillas were served on the side and they were warm, fresh, with a light dusting of flour and a wonderful charred texture and flavor to them. I'm not sure how chips and salsa work here so I didn't get to enjoy those. Overall Frijoles made for a fast, fresh, filling, and cheap lunch that made me leave with a smile on my face. Next time work has me in the area I'll definitely be stopping by again and giving their breakfast tacos a shot! read more

But before all that let me say that the folks that run this place are so so friendly and everyone that came in was greeted as family. The service is excellent. The place is clean. You order at the counter and then pick up at window. They have numerous specials as the outside windows proclaim. This is a busy and popular place. I ordered the Wednesday $6 enchilada plate. Two al a carte crispy tacos and large tea. $14.04 The tacos are $2 a pop. Anywho. The food is ok. Not bad or excellent. Just good. San Antonio is the Mecca of this type of restaurant. I'm neither disappointed or blown away. Will I be back? Probably not. Too many places on the street that I believe are slightly better. I didn't try breakfast tacos which seem to be the biggest selling items. We stopped here on a road trip on our way out of San Antonio. Burnt out on free hotel continental breakfasts, some of my travel companions decided they wanted a "real, sit-down breakfast," and we headed down the highway. They were quickly frustrated, though, but he lack of options nearby, and my brother got on his smart phone and saw Frijoles nearby. This place was not bad at all, the food is just lacking a lil flavor if not I would give it five stars. They have fast service and the plate definitely are big portions. One slight down fall is that when you order they give you a number and once your number is called you get up to the pick up window and pick it up. Be careful with the lady in the drive thru. I got charged close to $9 for two tacos. One bean and cheese and carne guisada. When I asked the lady for receipt since she didn't give me one, she comes back 2 min later and said she "accidentally" charged me for 3 tacos instead of two and only refund me $2. Beyond the customer service, I am not at all pleased with the food here. I had carne guisada tacos, which seemed to only be seasoned with pepper. The look of the meet and gravy was on point, but the flavor was gone. I don't mean it didn't taste like carne guisada, I mean there was no flavor beyond pepper. Both tortillas were weird too. The best way i can describe them would be a toastier version of Subway flat bread. They have the same thickness, texture and taste. Price was right, and people are nice, but I won't be stopping by here again. Two stars is maybe to many I had a bean and cheese taco a potato and egg taco and a carne gasada taco, I could finish any of them . First the potato egg was soggy due to the boiled potatoes any good Mexican cook knows you fry them in a pan first then add egg so they had no flavor not even a dash of salt ! The carne taco had a piece of fat that seriously made up a third of the taco and the flavor was black pepper that's all I could taste , the bean and cheese was ok at best but still was very bland ! I had a great lunch. To me, this is good, tasty, fresh Mexican home cooking. I had bean tacos (w/ lettuce, tomato and white cheese) on flour tortillas, which they make fresh by hand right there. Really nice food, beans well seasoned and plenty moist. Good guacamole too. I would definitely go back. Incidentally, too, the place might not look very fancy on the outside, but they have done some cute decorating inside, with several different vibrant paint colors. So it has a quaint, homey décor that feels typically Mexican. read more
