We came into town (Dayton area)to visit family and found a Frisch's while out revisiting our old stomping grounds! It was late. They had workers walk out on them, multitasking to please the customers quickly. They were out of spaghetti but had chili!! We explained that my husband only gets it and has since a child. They made sure he got the chili spaghetti! The service never faltered even with low help. They checked on us and gave us refills. The food was hot and fresh. These people rock!! Stopped in for lunch for the first time. The ambiance is typical Frisch's. Our friendly server brought our drinks quickly while we perused the menu. Hubby ordered the Big Boy burger combo with fries & coleslaw. I got the Alaskan cod entree with a side of onion rings. I paid extra to get the salad bar as an additional side. Our food came out in about 12-14 minutes. Good thing I had the salad bar because the 2 pieces of cod were minuscule & overcooked. I enjoyed the fresh salad & soup on the bar. The onion rings were good too. Hubby liked his food. I wouldn't recommend the cod but everything else was fine. Our server, Bobbie, was attentive & checked on us several times. Visiting from our of town and took my family to probably he worst meal I have had in years. Ordered a grilled chicken sandwich - 8 dollars. It came with a cold piece of grilled chicken and 2 pickles on bun. The breast was smaller than my granddaughters chicken nuggets. My wife had the chili Mac as a memory from Bob's Big Boy. Ih it will be a memory, a warm bowl of nasty chili on some cold noodles. My daughter is from he area and she said it is the worst one she has ever been too. Service was okay, but the bathrooms were disgusting. Oh, and it wasn't busy during lunch time, thay should have been our sign . Updating my review after ten years. I stopped here when I was traveling through the area, craving a fish sandwich. The restaurant was very clean, as was the salad bar. Everything on the salad bar was fresh and there WS a nice variety of ingredients. All employees were very friendly. They welcomed customers as they entered and chatted with regulars that they knew by name. My food was great, served hot and fresh. Breakfast buffet is available on weekends. It's been 30 years since my wife and I had a Big Boy. We know the nostalgia factor could be high, so we tempered our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised. First of all, thank you to our server. I'm going to guess her name was Bobbie. (That's the name on our receipt) She made it a point to check on us several times throughout our meal. We kinda made it hard for her since we were sitting off in a corner of the restaurant where no one was sitting. She was super pleasant, very nice and efficient. Thanks for that, Bobbie! ( We were the couple in biking gear from out of town.) We ordered a couple of Big Boy platters. Why get fancy on our first trip back? The slaw was good, but not great. Way too watery. The fries were good, but not great. The burgers were pretty tasty. Our strawberry shake was nice, as it wasn't loaded up with a sugary taste like some other places. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and the food. We knew not to expect something spectacular, just a good burger meal and they delivered. If or when we come back to Richmond, we'll stop by again. This is a very well maintained facility for a dying brand that I love. I grew up with the Elias Brothers franchise though. Take a step back in time when salad bars were a thing back in the 80s. I love the salad bar and the vegetable soup! The people working here were very welcoming and kind. The Big Boy sandwich was good but no longer a differentiator since there are so many renditions of this sandwich all over the place. The hot fudge cake is what you will remember except that it wasn't as good as what you remember. It is the hot fudge that makes it so good. read more

We visited this location last week when we were in town, because most of the locations were shutdown. The service was great and the food was good. I did ask for my fries to be well done, because I am not a fan of cold fries. Both times we visited in the last week they didn't get the fries right. But everything else was okay. I do need to give a shout out to the managers that were working during both of my visits. They were working the floor alongside the servers helping out with getting refills and clearing plates and doing whatever they could do to assist. When the waitress realized my state of utter horror she picked it up while I grabbed my phone to snap a pic. She ran away saying, "No! You gonna say something bad!" You're damn right I am! So I had to go to Walgreens and I only have the tractor so I was Bob tailing around waiting on my load to get ready and I saw there was a big boy right next door and I said you know it's been years and years since I went into a big boy but let's go in and have something to eat cuz you know I'm a pig and I'll eat anytime and I said all right fine let's eat. I first walked in I noticed it just had a very big dinner rush lot of the tables were dirty not quite cleaned off and my hands were dirty so I went to the can to go wash them it was nice and clean in there. I asked the gal to wait to get see that she's like it's just you I said yeah just me always and she said just grab a menu and have a seat I said cool. Plus they have some new specials now some gourmet burgers trying to stay hip with everybody else after all these years. This is a Frisch's Big boy Back in the day you had a whole bunch of franchises under the big boy name out in California you had the famous Bob's Big boy near my house in Chicago and up in Wisconsin was Marcs. In Michigan up until 2000 when they went bankrupt I believe it was Elias Brothers now most of them all run under simply the Frisch's name. So the menu I noticed had a lot of stuff they have a breakfast bar still which was surprising after covid they brought it back along with the salad bar cool breakfast bar hours and they have a breakfast menu. Perusing the menu some more they had some nice dinner options but I thought it's big boy got to get an original Big boy why not. So that was the choice the original Big boy double patties lettuce tomato and some of their famous big boy sauce on the side I didn't want to pile of it with cheese. Big boys sauce is a kinda tartar sauce but not like a fish tartar sauce it's their own homemade thing they've had for like ages. I also get the two sides so I got french fries and then I had cottage cheese she's like well we're a little busy but if you want to go up to the salad bar and grab some cottage cheese that's cool I snuck a few peaches LOL it's one of my favorite snacks sometimes cottage cheese and peaches with black pepper Yummers. The food came out fairly quick I had a Coke Zero and it had a good taste to it it wasn't nothing to jump for joy about anymore though after all these years cuz you got places like Red Robin Chili's and a lot of other places that have really Kick ass burgers however nonetheless it was good it was like I remembered with the sauce once it hit I'm like oh yeah I remember when I used to run the hell out of Michigan going up there around Livonia and heading down to that big boy a lot. Same when I ran a lot of stuff in Imlay City Michigan out of Vlassic pickles now owned by The Pinnacle foods corporation waiting on a load to get ready for California and going down to Big boy there too. I would come back here if I'm down by the Petro and I really didn't want the iron skillet I would like to have some of their dinners they look pretty good along with the salad bar and I wouldn't mind trying the breakfast buffet. For one thing to keep in mind on the weekends especially Sunday the church crowd they pack the house for the breakfast buffet just like a shoney's it's value and they go to town and they jam the place. All in although it was good and they did clean up the tables as I was sitting down they made didn't leave them just sitting there looking nasty or anything like that although I could see they were a little short on help one person got the struggled and walked out it's like well you just have to wait sometimes other than that it was a good dining experience I enjoyed it after not stopping into a big boy for years read more

A Bad Boy is like a Big Boy, but with pepper jack cheese and red sauce. That was delicious. I redeemed my points for a piece of Cheesecake, so I got that for free. I had hoped for more, being that this is a large chain, and that Frisch's has been a long time franchisee of Big Boy. I still remember going to the location on the east side where Ritter's is now, and the west side location, that had the radios to use to take your order. I ordered the Swiss Miss (Rye bun, swiss cheese, onions, meat, and their sauce, along with fries, and sweetened iced tea. Both the person who seated me and the waitress were friendly. I was somewhat surprised that the table was wet on the end but on further inspection, there were rings all over the table, as if it hadn't been seriously cleaned for years. Other areas looked as though they got the spot treatment too. Why do I mention this? It makes me wonder if their kitchen is equally clean. The waitress cheerfully brought my iced tea. When I took a drink, my first impression was that they waved a tea bag over some cold water and it was *accidentally dipped* into the water several times. The food arrived rather quickly, and the fries looked oddly brown-ish. They had an odd taste, and I later asked what kind of oil was used to cook them, which turned out to be Soybean Oil. (I was afraid that it was peanut oil, since I have an allergy, which makes it difficult to breathe.) The sandwich looked fine, but I suspect in years past, I asked to not have the special sauce. It was reasonable, with some mayonnaise-vinegar-relish mix--essentially Big Boy sauce without ketchup. I got through the sandwich and it wasn't bad, but the fries had already left a bad taste in my mouth. $7.28, plus tip, is too much to be not what you want. I should have gone to the Big Boy in Eaton, but this was close and I wanted to avoid inebriated drivers on Memorial Day. Do yourself a favor and go to some other location. read more

I stopped today for 1 reason passing through town. As a kid, my family used to go to Big Boys restaurants to eat and I was curious if it was still good. To my surprise, not only was it good, it was excellent! I had the salad bar and double Big Boy cheeseburger and fries. The salad bar was fresh and tasty albeit with a limited amount of items to choose from. The fries were nice and crispy and well cooked but the best thing by far was the cheeseburger. The meat tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly, and it was juicy without being greasy. the bun was amazing and soft and everything just blended together perfectly in the sandwich. I would highly recommend this place if this is the kind of food, they serve all the time! Final note is my server was also exceptional and patient and he did a great job today. read more

We went for the breakfast bar and we were very disappointed. The gravy tasted like it was scorched and had too much pepper in it. The french toast was hard and the pancakes had to be scraped off of the warming tray. In all fairness the bacon was crisp and the biscuits were soft and fresh. But I think everyone found that out as there were few to get. There was no regular grape or strawberry jelly, even though we asked 2 different servers for it. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years. I often use the drive thru and love the server that seems to work there daily. She has never given me anything but excellent customer service and great quality product. HOWEVER, tonight we decided to go in for dinner. It was without question the most horrible meal I have ever had. The service was rushed. The chicken strips had to be at least a day old. The mac n cheese was cold. I stopped by the Frisch's Big Boy Restaurant while in Richmond for seminary graduation and needed a quick lunch between events. I have this very romanticized view of Frisch's that comes courtesy of regular stops at a Frisch's location when I was a child on my way to and from a camp for folks with disabilities. Frisch's became a cherished memory and I try to stop at one whenever I get the chance. They seem to focus on smaller cities and less urban areas, so living in Indianapolis means I don't often get to one as much (though I do know there's one not too far away). Of course, I know this perception isn't entirely accurate as I know they are a popular Cincinnati option. The company's strategy has worked as it's a consistently profitable and popular restaurant. They're a regional chain with locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. They are most famous for their "Big Boy," a double-decker burger with their special tartar sauce. They are a full-service, family style restaurant and this particular location looks bright and shiny and was definitely comfortable. They have only a couple of accessible parking spots, but the interior is very wheelchair friendly. I was surprised to have a host take me to the smallish table and ask "do you want me to move the chair?" Um, no, I thought I'd just lean my wheelchair over it. Isn't that really kind of a no brainer? They also offer a full menu beyond their signature burgers. This particular location feels like a cross between an old 50s diner and a Denny's. The servers definitely have this sort of 50s feel to them and I kind of wish they'd go that direction. While I've been avoiding read meat for the most part, I decided the combo of celebrating graduation and being at Frisch's was cause for a bit of a splurge. Rather than a Big Boy, I opted for a simple cheeseburger with fries along with my usual unsweet iced tea. If I were rating this location on the meal alone, it would easily be a 2-star rating. The meal was incredibly disappointing for my memories and simply as a meal. The burger felt like nothing more than a frozen patty and was surprising in its lack of flavor. The special sauce added a little kick to it, but not enough to redeem it. The french fries are thin-cut and lack any kind of spark. The iced tea is fine, but nothing special. I did get my usual refill to go, though I got in a rush leaving and left on the table. I'm kicking Frisch's up a notch on the basis of service, which was consistent if not particularly inviting. I was checked in with regularly, service was friendly, and the iced tea refill was appreciated. While it wasn't the kind of service that made me feel compelled to return despite my reservations with the meal, it was the kind of service that can allow me to move this from a 2 to a 3-star review. You should know that there's a counter where you pay rather than paying at your table, another similar to the Denny's routine. I have no idea how late Frisch's is open, but it seems like the kind of spot where you'd hang out visiting with friends or family. The decor is warm and inviting and I really wish I'd had more time to just chill out. I won't be rushing back to this location of Frisch's, though my seminary days are done and I really won't have much of a reason for that to be an issue. I also wouldn't really avoid it, though I sure wouldn't waste a dietary splurge on a burger that simply wasn't that great. I ordered a pork tenderloin and I swear the oil used to fry this bad boy must have been at least 2 weeks old. I struggled to get past half of the sandwich. The balance of our party ordered the following: BLT - completely fell apart. Bread was over toasted, there was just no cohesion with this sandwich. Went in a couple days ago with my family and had the absolute worst experience we have ever had here. We tried to be patient and understanding that there was only one server but when everything in our order kept getting messed up, we could only stand so much. Mind you, there were only 5 tables when we came in and 4 of them were already eating and only 2 grounds came in after us. First it started with taking almost 5 minutes to seat us even though there were several workers staring at us and kept telling us "someone will be with you in a moment." We sat down ordered our drinks and food. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food, fine whatever there limited staff. When we took a look at the food, one of the sandwiches was missing bacon. Another sandwich was over cooked and the fries were over cooked. The third sandwich was completely wrong. The third sandwich was a club melt, on the menu it only says "turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, and tomato." There was no tomato on it, which was requested. But then upon closer inspection, there was mayonnaise and lettuce on the sandwich. I patiently ate my fries and waited for the server to come back, which took almost 10 minutes. I tried to explain that the sandwich shouldn't have mayonnaise or lettuce because the menu didn't say there was mayonnaise or lettuce on the sandwich. The server then tried to fight with me and tell me that I only asked for no tomato and I once again said that it didn't say on the menu that mayonnaise and lettuce weren't supposed to be on it. I tried to be as nice as possible, I just wanted a new sandwich with just the cheese, turkey, and bacon. They made me a new sandwich and I started to eat it when I tasted mayonnaise on it... to say I was upset was an understatement! I didn't even get to eat and yet they still charged us for the sandwich. To top it all off, we didn't even look at the bill until it was all said and done and paid for and I believe they charged us for the second sandwich too. If I could give this experience zero stars I would... I'm beyond upset with this restaurant and how downhill it's went. read more

I ate there today about 3:00 p.m. The meal was so delicious! It was just the common hamburger, French fries and cold slaw platter, but it was so fresh and tasty. The restaurant was clean and the decor was nice. I especially like that it has so many booths with comfortable seats. The dining area also has a few partitions that gives a bit of privacy. We had one of those Halloween free kids meal coupons so we stopped in for lunch. Our server was really nice and prompt. The prices are really pretty low; pur bill was less than $12 for two adults and one freebie kids meal. The food was just ok. I had a hamburger, which tasted a lot like a JTM (can we say "unappealing"?). It had a little bit of pretty pathetic looking lettuce and a really lonely single pickle. My husband had the country fried steak. It wasn't bad, but nothing to write home to mom about. Our little girl loved her grilled cheese, though! So, it's ok. We waited for almost 10 min to be seated, which we eventually seated ourselves, was totally ignored by the 3 servers that walked by us....was never waited on, given menus, or even spoken to....we left after being ignored for almost 10 minutes.
