Frita Batidos blew me away! I can't believe it took me so long to give this place a try. It is simply amazing! The ambiance was chill, mellow, and super clean. The employees were friendly, happy, and efficient. The flow of the food and the turnaround of guests made my experience here a positive one, which made me want to go back- before I even left! We began with a heaping pile of fried plantains, salsas, gaspacho, the best snack ever, tropical slaw, & sweet plantains. Everything was super delicious! We had beef frita, made loco- it was an amazing mess I had to finish with a fork! The churro was larger than life and tasted like a fresh donut from the apple orchard. It was heaven. To top it all off, the batidos were so tasty, we had to get another one for the road! She got a lime, I couldn't resist the coconut cream. The second one was with rum. I can't wait to go back! A long line but very worth the wait! I recommend the fries and the inspired Cuban sandwich more than the actual fritas. The chorizo was saltier than I would have liked. Each element of my bowl had great flavor and I really liked their jicama and slaw. They have domino games at each table and it's a very fun atmosphere. Came here when I visited my sister and cousin in Michigan and it did not disappoint! I got the Frita bowl and it was so good. The pork was so tender and flavorful and I loved the cole slaw that they paired it with! This was like an elevated and flavor-filled version of a chipotle bowl. The garlic fries were also super yummy but a little on the oily side. The main star of the night was the churros. Do not underestimate how huge these are!!! We didn't know how big they were and so we ordered three instead of just one. The churro is super bready and dense (almost like a old fashioned donut). So I think one churro is good for 2-3 people. It can get a little expensive, as you have to pay for everything separately (sandwiches, fries, drinks) for the two of us it was about $50. My previous review from five years ago still stands, but I have had a much better experience at Fritas since then. Definitely get the beef frita here and add a sunny side up egg for an additional $1.50. Let the yolk run on the burger - it's gonna be messy bit it's worth it. The sweet chile mayo is creamy and delicious. A bit of heat to add in extra flavor. If I recall correctly, the beef patty is a medium / medium-rare, which is perfect for burgers. The fries in the burger are tasty. This burger is amazing, but pricy. It's not a big burger, but it's over $10 (and more if you get the egg and other toppings). The garlic-cilantro fries is also a "must" when I go with friends. We share it between a few people and always want more. Super greasy and oily, so you know it tastes amazing. Sometimes, it's just nice and crispy without the extra oil, so not the most consistent. Good and creamy dipping sauce, too. Great location for drinks during happy hour, too, but only if you are able to find a place to sit! We went to the bar and ordered the frita colada, hibiscus soda, and two beers to enjoy while waiting in line to order. We ordered the chorizo frita (topped with tropical slaw), frita bowl with chicken, and the garlic cilantro fries as a side to share. The ingredients were fresh and packed full of flavor for both dishes. Lines were long, so we ordered online and picked up at our own time. I got the beef burger and made it loco . Honestly, one of the best things I put in my mouth. The entire room was filled with mostly people who had never tried it before (me included), and so as soon as we took our first bites, the room went silent. All I could hear were the eager lip smacking and slurping as people devoured their dishes. As we finished, we all collectively continued to sit in silence for a few minutes, contemplating what we did to deserve such a treat and wondered how we could go back to regular burgers after this. The burger itself was filled to the brim, stuffed with fires, and definitely was a fork-and-knife endeavor (although there were some folks in the room who attacked it with their bare hands). It was rich, and every bite had a slightly different flavor since there were just so many toppings on there. While I typically prefer heterogeneity in terms of texture, this dish had enough flavor surprises to make up for it. I think if the fries were crispier (hard to ensure in take-out containers) or had a different crunchy element, it would elevate this to another level. Regardless, flavorwise, there was a good balance between the sweet and acidic components, and I was left feeling extremely satisfied. Frita Batidos was one of the first restaurants I fell in love with in Michigan -- I've been going there for years, and I'm only surprised I didn't write a review sooner! In non-pandemic times, Frita Batidos was always packed and it was clear as to why: they offered great and unique at reasonable price. In pandemic times, they've done a fantastic job at continuing to offer the same great service and food, but adapted for the current situation. There are options for dining on-site, but the real gem (imo) is the takeout window -- some friends and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon during a peak time and there was no line for the takeout window! We got food within 15 minutes which is just awesome. During our last visit, we saw the outdoor seating area in the street outside Frita Batidos which is also a really nice feature and great to be able to enjoy nice weather and Frita Batidos food all at once! You won't go wrong with anything on the Frita Batidos menu and there are plenty of great combinations and permutations of Frita & toppings. One of my favorite places to go of all time. During college, I would always go here despite the long lines. Now that I live far away from Michigan, I still think about it and would fly out just for this. Their frita is super juicy, tender, and flavorful. When you choose the option to Make it Loco, you basically have all the toppings added in it and it results in a nice harmony between the meat, the cheese, guacamole, tropical slaw, salsa, and fries. Fritas is the place to be. Fritas does a great job with their Cuban fusion food, blending traditional Cuban flavors with American burgers. I especially love getting the beef frita with a fried egg. There is a special aioli that is magical in the Frita and the beef is always cooked a perfect medium rare. This is definitely a top tier burger. I additionally, love the fries they place in the burger as they add a sufficient crunch. The churros espanol are a bit polarizing for me on the other hand. Though I love the concept of warm chocolate and churros before ordering, the large portion sizes and girth of the churros make them a bit gimmicky. Oh my gosh, the food here is AMAZING!!! I heard it was a local favorite in Ann Arbor, and I can definitely see why. The food is a little pricey, but worth it. The menu has a step by step of 1-2-3, but that doesn't mean you need to follow it. It has you choose a frita, batido, and a side, but I think if you got all 3 it would be too much food. A frita is basically a Cuban burger/sandwich, and a batido is a Cuban-inspired milkshake. I shared batidos and sides with friends and it was a good amount of food for all of us. I got the chorizo batido with tropical slaw and tried the coconut cream batido, passion fruit batido, garlic cilantro fries, and twice fried plantains. The chorizo frita was good, but the tropical slaw was INCREDIBLE on it. If I were to be back, I think I'd try the beef frita because that's more like a burger, and I felt like the chorizo was maybe a tad bit dry? But it was still delicious regardless, and I'd highly recommend the tropical slaw. Both the coconut cream batido and the passion fruit batido were delicious as well, but we all preferred the coconut cream one because it was less sweet and had a really good flavor if you like coconut. The garlic cilantro fries were amazing, but the lemon-scented mayonnaise that it came with was the star of the show for me. I already like mayonnaise, but this lemon-scented mayonnaise dipping sauce was probably one of the best condiments I've ever had, and it paired so well with the fries. The twice fried plantains were also really good! It came out really fresh and warm and I enjoyed them a lot. Visited this place yesterday. Got the double beef frita, loco style. While the burger itself was very good and flavorful, I thought the loco was a weird mix of too many flavors. Disappointed with the fries which were cold and dried up (I munched on these before I left the restaurant so it's not like they sat a while.) Also had the lighter batido, which was good, but not amazing. I got the burger to go, but sat down at a table outside to enjoy my batido. A male staff member came over and told me that the tables were for "dine in" customers. Now mind you, all of the tables outside were open at the time, so it's not like there was a back log of people waiting to sit down. If there were I would have gotten right up. Frita Batidos is hands down my favorite Ann Arbor restaurant forever and ever and ever! There is a special piece of my heart specifically reserved for Fritas ALWAYS! I found every excuse to eat there when I was a student at Michigan & now, it's the #1 place I always want to go whenever I find myself back in Ann Arbor around mealtime! I've also safely tried possibly everything on the menu over the years & now order the same thing every time because it's my favorites - a fish frita with a lighter batido (and elote if it's in season)! MY ONE COMPLAINT ABOUT FRITAS: Even though I'm not vegan, I am conscious of my meat intake and always take note of the vegan options available at a restaurant because a lot of my close friends are vegan. This is, in my opinion, a big, glaring spot in which Fritas is lacking. They have very limited options for vegan diets on their menu, which is extra surprising given that they're located in an extremely vegan-friendly town - Ann Arbor - and their Detroit location has even less vegan options available. Basically, if a vegan were to place an order here, they wouldn't be able to get a full meal out of the options available, and that's downright disappointing. It was my hope when their Detroit location opened, they would add / change some things on their menu to become more vegan friendly, but nothing happened. Other than that, I can't emphasize enough how great Fritas is. Anytime I bring a non-vegan friend to Ann Arbor, this is always the first place I want to take them. Even in this pandemic, when I place an order online, often the earliest available time to pick up is an hour later! That's encouraging to know that business is still so steady & good, but also helpful for all those planning to order ahead! Make sure to give yourself plenty of time. Luckily for me, I live an hour away, so I basically just need to place the order before I start driving and it'll be ready for me by the time I get to AA! You pick up your food at their cute little to-go / carry out window right next to their door! During non-pandemic times, the interior is so cute & signature Fritas!
