We have been back a few times now and all I can see is we have found our new go-to bakery spot! The highlights: The Boston cream is the best I've ever had. The perfect ratio of doughnut to cream. It's a dream. We loved the black and white cookie cake. The strawberry Boston cream cake is divine. My husband loves their leaf cookies which they get bonus points for carrying. Goodness, after the 30 years plus I have been going there, it is still one of the best bakeries around! The German butter cake is my favorite! I love the unique building and the workers are so helpful and nice. When my kids were younger, on half days during school, afterwards I would take them there to purchase cupcakes, then drive to the airport to watch the planes take off, when you were allowed to on Ronkonkoma Avenue. While the food is outstanding at this bakery, the service is awful. I will never go there again. It's as if you are bothering the woman at the counter when you ask for something. In order for this business to be successful, I think it's best that the woman who is always behind the counter move to a back end position that doesn't deal with people because she is quite rude. I have seen her treat others this way on previous visits, and this weekend I experienced it firsthand. SO disappointed. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I called about a donation to a scholarship that would go to a Sayville HS Senior that's pursuing a "helping profession." So I've been canvassing businesses and calling to see who would be interested in donating either merchandise or a gift card. I call and ask for the manager, a woman says can I take your name and number down and have her call you back? and I said sure, so she says hold on one second and puts me on hold, then another woman gets on and says hello? so I said "Is this the manager?" and she said "Yes" so then I get into my conversation about the scholarship, she cuts me off and says "Can we cut to the chase? I have a long line and don't have time for this!" I was appalled and immediately said "You know what, never mind, have a great day" and she said "Yeah, thanks bye!" Totally as if I was an inconvenience to her. The original girl said she would take my name and number which was fine but then you put the manager on so I was expecting she wanted to hear what I had to say. Meanwhile, we are handing out the business cards of those that donate at our basket raffle event so she lost herself free press. Whoever the owner or manager is I will pray for you because you have a very mean spirit. Just look at the other comments complaining about the service. Never was a customer here and NEVER WILL BE. One if my co-workers brought in a butter cake from the place and it phenomenal. I think I ate half of the thing. It had like a sweet butter glaze on top of a soft flakey cake. So delicious. I had to go look at this place on my own. I will admit that I came here kind of late, but being from New York City I knew most of the stuff was gonna be gone. I got a cinnamon twist donut, boston cream, and a coconut pastry. Ohhhh my God. These were good if not better than the butter cake. They were all soft, sweet and delicious. It wasn't overly sweet but just the right amount. They were definitely cooked the morning of and had a quick turn over. Which means this place is amazing. The Boston cream was soft and creamy. They could've added more of the cream but it was perfect for the amount of soft pastry they had. The cinnamon twist was good. Same as previously stated it was soft and tasty. The coconut pastry was sooooooo good. It had a similar pastry but on top of that pastry was like a roasted coconut icing that was the perfect icing to pastry ratio. Definitely worth the try. Hopefully next time I will have the opportunity to drop by and get a fresh butter cake. Just an FYI, to the other reviewers that gave this place a bad score. These bakery owners come in early in the morning and bake their stock of goods for the day. What ever they have left towards the end of the day is what they have. They are not cooking during the day so they will not churn out new stuff just to waste their fresh stuff they just baked. read more

VERY disappointing.... What's the point of having your doors open until 3pm, if there's nothing on your shelves after Noon? The place looked horrible - every case was empty... a few tired, sad, lonely loaves of bread on the back shelves... I'm sure their pastries are very good (based upon reviews), but that's not helpful if you don't have any to sell - I get that it's popular, but good business says you make enough product. If they don't want to produce a larger inventory, they should just close the doors at noon. Wasted 45 minutes trying to find them, only to walk out completely empty handed 3 hours before closing time. read more

I've been coming here every so often for 20 plus years and the service has generally been slow. It reminds me of bakeries in the former Soviet Union where you're forced to wait on a long line in stark surroundings and then take whatever is available. While their products are pretty good, they usually run out of bread and rolls before noon and haven't given thought to baking a second run like the other bakeries manage to do. So when Fritzsche's customers come in and find the shelves bare, then they go to Audrey's, Mondello's or Panera Bread, right? read more

Went in to get directions for a nearby restaurant for a luncheon and was overcome by heavenly bakery scents! They are a cash only business and was thrilled when I realized I had some cash on me since I knew I didn't want to leave empty handed! I had a sugared jelly doughnut that was exactly how I remembered them from my childhood - can't believe I ate it before my luncheon - it was so worth it and I'll will be back for more! Just had pecan ring which used to be a favorite from here. It used to be fluffy but plain with great texture and taste. The top had large pecans and just enough glaze. Now it's flatter, inside is dense with artificial taste of cinnamon and has small pecans that don't have much taste. Truly disappointed. If you can't keep the perfected recipe, you should change name on store also. By the way, 1st time a hair was found in pecan ring in all these years. Will not crave this one any more read more

Whenever I visit my family in Sayville a morning visit to Fritzche's is a MUST! There's nothing like their jelly donuts and fresh rolls. All of their products are fantastic but those two are a must! The location is small and it can get very crowded after Sunday mass gets out or on a holiday, so get there early! read more
