frnds! how many us of have them?! wow! i finally made it to girls night thursdays at frnds. it's advertised as $2 oysters and $2 martinis. frnds is located in west u/rice village along the strip where urban outfitter's used to reside and across from lululemon. i arrived around 5:30 for happy hour and it was maybe four other tables inside. we were greeted by the hostess and walked over to a table. i love the layout and color scheme. i sat in the chair and hated it. only because in order to be comfortable i had to position my legs to the outside of the table. nevertheless, i was comfy. the happy hour menu has a nice food and drink selection. we ordered the flight because my friend wanted tequila in her martinis and i ordered an extra dirty martini with three olives. the lychee martini was very good. the watermelon was overly sweet. i ordered an extra dirty martini with 3 olives but they were out of olives. the martini was poured nicely and tasted great even without the olives. the hookah service was exceptional as well. he was able to describe the different flavors and even advised what to do in case we didn't like what we chose. it's a separate service so he took payment directly. our server (i can't remember her name but she had curly hair, long brown tapered square nails and glasses) was very attentive and made sure to check on us as she walked by to her other tables. later in the evening it began to become a little busier. we ordered raw & chargrilled oysters, chicken tenders, french fries, african jollof rice bowl and crab fingers to share for the table. i'm moreso of an east coast oyster girl but i enjoyed the chargrilled. there were also good but my preference is east coast. the chicken tenders were well seasoned as well as the fries. although crab fingers are listed under shareables, i don't recommend sharing you receive (5) crab fingers in a bowl with a remoulade sauce at the bottom. it's definitely not papadeaux crab fingers however they were rich in flavor and the sauce was amazing. the star of happy hour was the african jollof bowl. the rice was cooked perfectly with a nice suya spice. the bowl was topped with two different proteins and sliced plantains. i could've eaten another one of those myself. our total bill came to about $55 dollars each with gratuity included. i'm glad i finally was able to try girls night out at frnds. read more

I finally checked out FRNDS for their $2 martini and oyster happy hour. I want to start by saying the vibes are GREAT. Music was bomb and the manager was so sweet! The lychee martini was great (could've been a bit colder) but definitely nothing to cause fuss about. I loved the shrimp deviled eggs but the chargrilled oysters fell flat to me. Stopped by this place after work to check out their happy hour. The place is dark and poorly lit. The restaurant was not full maybe 4 to 5 people in there but service was slow. We ordered a few items off the happy hour menu anddd they were disappointing. The espresso martini was uninspiring and too bitter. The biscuits and jam gave nothing additionally the deviled eggs weren't great and my friend reported the tenders were dry also the fries were just okay. Our waitress/ bartender was friendly but this place left a lot to be desired and it doesn't exactly give the vibe or provide the quality of food that would make me want to return. read more

Made reservation here for 1245p. We arrive about 5 minutes late but that wasn't an issue, we were seated right away. The restaurant wasn't packed at all. Waitress came around about 10 minutes after and introduced herself and asked if we were ready to order. We asked for a minute which turn into over 20 minutes. They didn't have much of a variety to choose from. We were sitting waiting on PARIS to return to our table...... we decided to leave. Pretty restaurant but sucky service. Took an hour for our drinks to come to the table. We were missing an appetizer and 2 of the 2 people in my party never received their entree. This was my second time visiting Frnds. The first time I came in the evening, but this time I stopped by for brunch. I ordered the Very Very French Toast with sausage and eggs. The French toast was $10, which I thought was a fair price for brunch, and the total for my meal came to about $21 which seems pretty cost-effective overall. However, the drinks were outrageous, $20 each and mostly filled with ice. My boyfriend ordered the exact same thing, and our total bill came out to $105. I honestly don't think we ate or drank that much to justify the price, though I can't say I'm completely surprised. Also, gratuity is automatically added to the bill. I came here with a friend right after a Solidcore class (lol, don't judge us). On a Monday evening, it wasn't busy, so we were seated without reservations. We were honestly there for the hookah (which didn't disappoint), so I only ordered a lemon drop martini with some deviled eggs which were actually both delicious, so I will be coming back to try some more food from their menu. I visited this place on Sunday and I will not be back. For starters, the music is extremely loud. I couldn't hear the people right next to me. We were almost yelling at one another. Secondly, the kitchen closes during a certain time which was a downer. Thirdly, the drinks are so sweet. It was like we were drinking coolaid. Came here to try their new brunch menu. I got the honey butter biscuits & deviled eggs as appetizers. The honey butter wasn't really sweet so I ate the biscuits alone, which were pretty good. They forgot to give us utensils so we had to wait a while before we could find our waiter to let her know. I had the jerk lamb chop and eggs as my entrée and as someone who loves jerk anything these didn't taste like jerk sauce, but overall they were still good and flavorful. It came with eggs and potatoes which weren't really hot. My friend got the steak and eggs and she also said her food was lukewarm. For drinks I got the snatched piña colada, which was a 10/10 & I also got the ocean water drink, which was good too. The ambiance is really pretty if you're looking to get nice pictures & there's free parking, which is nice but overall I'd it's a pretty place & food was good but didn't necessarily give us that "omg we need to come back" feeling. read more

As someone who used to frequent their happy hours, my last few experiences has caused me to not want to return. To explain one, came here for date night expecting dinner and drinks. Was sat in a stuffy back corner and requested another table. They sat us at the center cocktail tables that are not designed for food. Next, was finally greeted and order a sidecar cocktail, and my party arrived after and ordered the same. AFTER, I had already received my drink, we were told they only had VSOP. Charging us $32 per cocktail! Needless to say, we left. Waitress was nice, and offer to comp one of the drink that had a gnat in it but that's not enough. Came here for a happy hour on a Monday afternoon. It was relatively busy with a few scattered groups of two or three and at least two large parties of five or more during the three hours we were there. We sat at one of their table seatings in the middle of the restaurant, which was easy to chat even though the spacing is a bit more than I expected, so I found myself having to sit on the edge of the tufted seat to eat or hear my companion really well. The music was relaxing and at a comfortable volume that we were able to sit for hours and talk and still have our voices after. The happy hour menu is reasonably priced, although I think the pot stickers could come down slightly given that you only get three. We tried the beef and chicken potstickers - I preferred the beef because I also liked the accompanying sauce. The shrimp deviled eggs were a nice surprise-so good in fact, we ordered a second batch. The brussel sprouts were crispy and not too salty or soggy. I appreciate that despite it being a known happy hour spot, they had spirit-free drink options, and I enjoyed the "Thicker Than Water" strawberry mojito. This is a great spot and welcome happy hour space in Rice Village. I wish it had been here when I used to frequent the area more. read more

When your friend tells you to meet up for drinks you meet up for drinks. I've never heard of FRNDS restaurant and lounge but met up with some work friends for happy hour. They had been there for a little bit so I had to catch up. I started off with a margarita off the happy hour menu. Very very disappointing it was extremely watered down and tasted like I was drinking water. I ordered the corn ribs and fried chicken dumplings. I love corn and don't know what I expected the corn ribs to taste like but I didn't care for it. I wish the corn was actually sweet and it would've been much better. As for the fried chicken dumplings. I was confused on what I was eating. I love dumplings and thought this would be the perfect fusion but it wasn't it. After having not the best drinks or food. Billy the manager came over and comped some drinks for our group. Traz one of the servers bartends at times and even though he was serving on this particular day decided to go to the bar and make us a round of drinks. Those were the best drinks we had that night. There needs to be maybe some additional training for the previous bartenders because there's no reason that every drink should taste terrible. Despite the experience with food. Customer service was great and our server Trey was very helpful and tried his best to make an unfortunate situation better. When we arrived, we were 2 of 6 total people in the entire restaurant, so we took a couple of seats at the bar. Buttermilk chicken tenders: crispy and delicious with good flavor. Served with honey mustard, ranch, and spicy ketchup. Shrimp deviled eggs: have a lil kick, but nice flavor. Shrimp is fried on top. Overall, this was not a bad experience. Definitely worth the happy hour prices. 20% gratuity added to the ticket and our bill was only $64! One of the cheaper happy hours I've experienced in Houston. My friend and I tried this restaurant out as this was on our list of places to try. We had reservations for two and I arrived five minutes before our scheduled time. Upon checking in for our reservation, the hostess told me there was no available seating, only bar seating as there was a party later on that night (three hours later) and they were going to clear tables from one side of the restaurant (the other side still had open booths). However, two ladies arrived after us and were seated in a booth. That alone had me set on rating this place one star; however, the male bartender and the food redeemed them. The food was delicious.my friend and I opted for shareables, raw oysters, green beans tempura, calamari and salmon bites. Everything was really good but the highlight of the meal was the salmon and pina colada. The salmon was so tender and flavorful and the pina colada was amazing. Parking can be hectic during busy hours in the area as I did not see any valet options (we came Saturday around 5) and the restaurant is in a shopping strip. Overall, I would return. The music was at a good level and it was a vibe of your latest R&B. The menu is short and sweet. Only four entrees. Our service was great, she stopped by quite a bit and answered all questions we had. I ordered the wagyu sliders. They were kind of bland and a little dry. They come only with a chefs sauce and cheese on them on a bed of arugula and spinach. Could be different if there were other toppings on the sliders. After we have looked at the food and drink menu, we place our order. The food took forever to come out. I would say about 45 minutes. The food that we order here was pretty good. The grilled lamb was very tender and flavorful. Snapper bites very crispy and crunchy with delish aioli. The corn was pretty good too. But not for the price, service or the ambiance. Everything was just too slow. The fries we ordered with the sliders never even made it out until we finished our food. The problem here is in the kitchen. They need more people back there. Bc it shouldn't have taken that long to bring out food for 5 people. Seems toe like the kitchen staff was short. I love supporting new businesses but they did not make the cut in my eyes. My friends wanted to try Frnds after seeing it in Tiktok. We arrived around 8:45pm with no reservation and was told it would be an hour wait for a table. After waiting an hour we asked the hostesses how much longer and was told there was / people ahead of us. We then waited another 30-40 before finally being seated. Although the salmon was delicious, I personally was not impressed with the menu and did not car for the passion fruit lemon drop. Although I've never been to an "upscale" restaurant that had loud music and hookah, I enjoyed the female dj (girl power) who was playing some great jams. Something new! I miss my tapas from its previous inhabitants, but you live and you try new things. A colleague and I needed a dinner venue for post work planning. We ended up here. Our first thought is that this is where vampires hang out. We're pretty sure that's accurate. The vibe is dark and sultry. It does look like later at night it may open up into something different. I'm not sure if it turns into the club on Blade, or something out of Interview with a vampire. It's definitely not Underworld. So off the bat, the prices. Yeesh. Food-wise we did the Wagyu sliders. If there were 4 at $22 would've been fair price. Alas, only three presented themselves on my plate. They were good, but not amazing. The Tempura Green Beans were by FAR the best thing we had! At $12, they were well worth it. So good! The crunch, the seasoning and the SIZE. Must get. The last of our eaten items, the Buttermilk Drop Biscuits $14. We chose this because we were so curious what kind of biscuits were worth $14. The trap got us. They were normal biscuits and jam. I would never knowingly pay for avocado and toast, but the breakfast demons pulled a fast one on me this time with bougie biscuits. Definitely more of a $5 item. Good, but not $14 good. The drinks were fantastic. Also severly very overpriced, but good. We had three different and they were All good. My colleague has some allergies and I was educated in what items were a no no for different things. So I also ended up with a side of cotton candy as they couldn't have it in their drink. Yay dessert :) Our wait staff was Cassidy (apologize if the spelling is off) she was great on our menu questions, and also double checking our allergy items with the kitchen folks. She made sure we were tended to regularly. Great service! We also had a chance to chat with one of the chefs as they were doing a walkthrough of the dining room. Definitely above touch for the guests to get a chance to meet and mingle with the culinary wizards. Overall an okay experience. The absolute worst dining experience that I've endured in quite some time. It took 30 minutes to get drinks and they came out like they traveled to us via Noah's Ark... two by two... 30 minutes apart. So, I shouldn't have been surprised that this was the same case for the appetizers. And, when we flagged the waitress down to order entrees after being seated for an hour, we were informed that one of their popular dishes was not only the menu when we asked for it.
