WINNER! We have been exploring places in SLC when visiting from out of town and this place was chosen on a whim. We could not have been anymore satisfied with the selection. The Rizzotto cake with the roasted red bell pepper sauce was a great start to phase in the entree choices: Steak Stroganoff, Tri Tip Steak, and Grilled Salmon. Flavors were on par for the Tri tip and Grilled Salmon. The Stroganoff was a thinner sauce but still done nicely. My only ask for a change would be to make the veggies slightly al dente, but they were still delicious. I would absolutely choose to eat at this place restaurant again. read more

Wow, my wife daughter and I all agreed From Scratch is probably the best food we've had in a long time. Service was a little shaky at the beginning with servers confused on who was covering our table until we flagged them down. But my grilled salmon plate with ratatouille-style veggies and mashed potatoes erased my brain of any of these initial service issues... Wow absolutely delicious! My daughter loved her pulled pork sammy, and wife her cheese burger. The handcrafted finely tuned Manhattan cocktail was icing on the cake for me. Our server ended up being very attentive and friendly. Next time we're visiting SLC again this will be the first spot we go back to. read more

The one thing I like at From Scratch is their white pizza. Warning, it does have a lot of garlic. It's a cute location, but the service isn't very fast. There's ample seating if you have a large group, but the times I've been whether it's small or large groups-it's always very slow. read more

I was lucky to receive a gift card promotion from this restaurant. So I decided to stop by for lunch on a Friday. The restaurant itself got pretty busy. The pomegranate lemon drop couldn't have been better. I would say slightly less syrup would make it more digestible. The short rib dish was good. I thought that the meat itself could've been a little more tender. Unfortunately the carrots were just a little too hard to cut with a butter knife. This was my first experience at From Scratch, and it won't be my last! I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. It was so GOOD. We shared the special a bacon Avocado cheeseburger with fries and a fennel sausage pizza. The burger came out looking like an advertisement burger (the ones that are never real because they look too good, with all of their perfect toppings and layers. The meat was juicy and well seasoned. The bacon was thick, and crisp, lots of thinly layered onion, lettuce tomato and sauce. The bun was soft. The pizza was yummy, the crust was so good it could be eaten plain. There was homemade ranch, and ketchup and it was all so good. I wanted to take a picture of the burger after I took some bites, but it was too good to put it down and go through that!! The service was good, they kept the water refills coming and were really attentive. The restaurant and bathroom were clean and tidy. I can't wait to try more dishes!!! read more

We were on a trip to Park City/SLC and From Scratch was a 2 minute drive from our hotel. The menu looked good, so we called an Uber and made our way over. I'm glad we took a ride share, because the parking is almost non-existent here. This place's atmosphere is unfortunately one of those cold, sterile, Millennial restaurants with the uncomfortable stool seating and the cement floors. Random artwork, food served on cutting boards, cramped seating, AC blasting. Not really my type of place, but some may enjoy the "aesthetic". The coldness continued over to the staff. The hosts looked borderline annoyed that we were there. Maybe we read too much into it and they just simply were having a bad day, but they were giving us the death glare. Our server Jayce was also very rushed, but to her defense, she was working like a chicken with no head while the manager sat there and enjoyed a drink. The food was okay, nothing special. We started with the Wood-Fired Bread, which was actually pretty dry despite the hype our server gave it. The jams & butters on the side helped a bit, but we wouldn't get it again. Our entrees took 35 minutes to come out after we placed them. I ordered the Braised Short Ribs, and my Mom ordered the Tri-Tip Steak. My Braised Short Rib was a let down. The meat was cold on the inside, and the mashed potatoes were cold as well. My carrots were good but they only gave me 2. My Mom's steak was pretty good and tender, but the mashed potatoes were cold just like mine were. We told our server and they gave us a complimentary dessert, a Tiramisu. It was okay, kind of mushy, but it had a good coffee flavor. I'm giving 2 stars because I think this place has potential, but they need to work on their service and making sure their food is coming out hot. Everything looked better than it tasted. read more

Dropped in for a work lunch and left extremely satisfied. Although the regular menu items were tempting, the Cajun pasta on the daily special menu was definitely the winning selection. The Cajun sauce was delicious but not too spicy, and the dish was packed with shrimp and sausage ... they definitely did not skimp on the ingredients. Our server was pleasant and observant, kept the drinking glasses on the table full, and made sure everyone in our party of five was happy with the entire dining experience. If I could give this place 10 out of 5 stars I would. Everything was phenomenal. From the cocktails to the pastrami-topped grass-fed burger on gluten-free bun to the unbelievably amazing flourless lava cake and wonderful waitress. We shared the burger since it's a half-pound and there was no shared plate charge which made it even better. That left room for the dessert, which we're so glad we went for. It's probably a good thing we don't live up here or we'd be broke eating out almost every night. Lol. Knowing that everything is housemade is the cherry on top. When I saw the reviews for From Scratch, I was so excited to try the restaurant. I made my family go to dinner extra early (5:30pm!) so that we could beat the crowd. It was such a weird time that we didn't see much of a dinner rush while we were there. Perhaps we didn't order well, but I did ask the server if I should get the short ribs or the three-meat pizza. She recommended the short ribs entree which she said is one of their best dishes. The short ribs were pretty disappointed both in the portions (three smallish short ribs) and in flavor (fairly bland). We ordered the beet salad to start, and I appreciated that they split the plates for us but it would have been nice if they cleared the salad plates rather than let them sit there while we ate our entrees. The restaurant itself is in a downtown, corporate area, and that extends to the restaurant. read more

I was visiting SLC for business and a colleague booked this restaurant for our group. This is the kind of original restaurants that I like to patronize when in a new area; much preferred over chain restaurants. When we arrived midweek, the place was pretty empty and we even had to wait for a staff member to come out and greet us. By the time we finished, the place was packed. I had a beer, a very nice cream of mushroom soup, and the tri-tip steak sandwich. Bonus points for making everything in-house. If you have a large group or are in town for a convention and decide to go, I highly recommend you call and get reservations. We had a group of about 15 people that broke from our meeting and decided to go for lunch close to the hotel. I found this location as it was around the corner, and we decided to give it a go as the food looked really good. Walked into put our name on the list they were on the busy side. Most of the tables were taken. There was a very large table that was an occupied, but we were told it would be about 45 minutes to an hour for a week. We waited about an hour and 10 minutes before we were seated. The restaurant is kind of small and cozy, but room enough for people to walk around the tables and not bump into the neighboring table. Our poor little waitress we were those asshole customers that asked for the bill to be split before she even started taking the order. She think that's for letting her know ahead of time as it does make it a little easier for her when she is putting in the orders. She did great and taking our orders and getting us our drinks right away. The kitchen obviously was a little slammed so it did take a little bit for the food to come out. Fabulous thing is that everything is made from scratch and in house so it's worth the wait. Trying to eat a little healthier I decided to get a burger, but I had it wrapped in lettuce to get rid of most of the carbs. I must say the food was really good and very tasty with the exception of my burger was a little on the pink side . I still ended up eating it as I did not want to wait for it to come back out as we had already waited almost 2 1/2 hours from the time we walked in to the time we got our food. read more

This is such a fun place with great atmosphere. The menu has a ton of choices! We got the bread with some butter as an appetizer. Oh my yum! And we both got different salads. This place is located in downtown SLC, but is kind of secluded in some random backstreet, but was super easy to find. The restaurant was kept clean, which is always a plus. I ordered the wood fire bread as an appetizer and the Scratch Steak Sandwich as my entree. Both were fantastic! The wood fire bread comes with butter and also some very tasty apple jam. The steak sandwich was definitely perfection on a plate. We will definitely be back to eat here whenever in SLC, and you should make it a point to stop by as well. First the host was very rude and when we asked for a table for 5 he seemed put out finally answering it would be 1.5 hours. We figured it must be good. We came back. The beet salad was great but the margarita pizza was burnt and average. The service was horrible though. Our waitress disappeared never came back to see how dinner was, get us more drinks or even get us our check. I had to go to the front 2 times asking for more drinks and finally our bill telling them our waitress forgot about us and it didn't even phase them. Don't waste your time here. read more
