Finally, a restaurant in Salt Lake City that actually cares about curating an atmosphere for their diners. Split between two different seating areas, one a bright sunroom filled with vibrant plants and neon lights and the other a darker, moodier booth lined bar area that feels cozy. We started the evening with the house puffy bread and calamari. The calamari comes grilled which may surprise some people, drenched in oil and herbs, it made for a perfect pairing to dip the bread into. Our main courses were the crab pasta and Tortellini. The crab pasta was a comfort dish for sure, heavily oiled, heavily salted. I would have liked a bit of lemon or herbs to lighten things up, but overall the dish felt luxurious. The tortellini was an umami bomb, incredibly rich, meaty flavor. We finished things out with potentially the best espresso martini we've had in Salt Lake leaving us excited to try more from their bar program in the future. read more

Really disappointed. Honestly will never go back again. The food was not only terrible but the portions were so so small. Overly salty. Not the appetizers and main dishes you would expect from a so called nice restaurant. I honestly feel sorry for the waiters and waitresses. I think they know how bad it is. The prices were insane. 21$ for puffy bread. Fried olives we just small fried olives at an expensive price. Atmosphere was terrible. Basically dim and had lame art on the walls. Knit dream catcher. The glasses were plastic cups that you would see in a high school cafeteria. Unfortunately it didn't make my birthday experience memorable. The fact that this spot made the New York Times "50 Best Restaurants in America 2025" list is exactly why I've been dying to try it... but honestly, I left disappointed. The atmosphere is the standout, fun, funky, retro, and very unique. It's everything I want in a restaurant vibe, and I do love that it's 21+. For a second, I thought I had found my new go-to Italian spot in SLC... but I was wrong. The food is way overpriced for what you get. We started with the puffy bread ($15), which was actually great, but the tiny side of dip was $6, bringing bread for the table to $21 for basically a few bites each. We also tried the eggplant parm ($18), which had solid flavor and texture. Then came the mains... and this is where it went downhill.. A friend and I ordered the tortellini in broth ($29), and after one bite, we both said the same thing: it tasted like overpriced chicken noodle soup. There were maybe 6-7 tortellinis total. Another friend's spaghetti was overly salty and felt very basic for the price. The ravioli ($27) was the best of the entrees, but still pretty mid and not worth the cost. Service didn't help either, very slow, long gaps between apps and mains, food coming out at different times, and drinks rarely refilled. There were plenty of staff around, so it was surprising how little attention we got. Overall: the interior is a 5/5, and I'd maybe come back for a drink at the bar if I was in the neighborhood. Since moving to SLC from Newport Beach two years ago, we've eaten at over 40 restaurants in the price range. Many of them amazing! Cosmica however was the worse meals we have had in the State. The fennel salad was bland and tasteless. The swordfish came BREADED... 4 parts breading, one part fish. Why would you take a favorful fish like this and make it into a cafeteria fishstick??? The puttanesca pasta was so spicy hot it was inedible. My wife ate two bites. Having eaten puttanesca about 100 times, i've never seen it prepared spicy hot, let alone so hot we couldn't eat it. The drinks were great well-balanced and flavorful. The tuna crudo was beautifully presented, though it came as one large slab rather than smaller bites, which made it a bit harder to share. Our table enjoyed a shaved fennel salad, a chicory salad, a flatbread, a swordfish schnitzel with capers, a mafaldine and bolognese bianco, and an order of meatballs. I previously tried to make reservations online and the open table app would not allow a reservation for more than 5 people. I tried calling several times during their weekday dinner hours and no one would pick up, so I gave up. Fast forward 3 months later, OpenTable finally had option to book for 8 people, so I booked it. Not sure if there was a glitch or not, but glad they fixed it. The parking is a little rough. I knew that from the previous reviews and knew to not park in the strip club parking lot. Luckily we found a spot in the lot between Cosmica and Dough Miner. We were sat shortly after arriving on a Wednesday night. It was surprisingly busy and the service was pretty slow overall. We didn't get our order taken for at least 25 minutes and somehow a puffy bread order made it to our table even though we didn't order it. Can't complain, it was good! Once we had our order taken, the server checked in a few times but there was a lot of pause between check ins. We spent more time waiting for the server to come back with our food, drinks, and to box up our leftover. We were there for nearly 2 hours from the time we sat down to the time we paid for the bill. The positive side was that the food was good and well-seasoned, and the restaurant itself was well-kept. I'm a little disappointed that even though we were celebrating my birthday that we couldn't even get a free scoop of gelato like most restaurants would happily do. The service was super nice and gave us good recommendations for when I was deciding between drinks. Parking deffo is a struggle to find in their small lot. From the hostess to our server, service was top knotch. Cosmica: Warm Vibes, Great Food, and a Few Happy Surprises Cosmica is super cute -- a great vibe from start to finish. Everyone we met -- host, bartenders, waitstaff, and what I'm pretty sure was the manager -- was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed happy we were there. Parking Tip If you're driving, park on the side with the "Maven" customer signs. It's two-hour parking, and we even had a parking attendant from a nearby business check in. Once we said we were going to the restaurant, he waved us through -- kind of nice to know the lot is monitored. First Impressions Cosmica is tucked underneath apartments, with charming windows labeled wine - pizza - pasta. Bonus points for the Pride flag out front -- my other half and I love seeing that when we walk in. It instantly made us feel even more at home. Inside, there's a converted indoor-patio space to the right (adorable), and more formal dining to the left. Definitely make a reservation -- even on a Thursday, the next available table wasn't until 9 PM. We lucked out by spotting the bar and were happily seated there, the only guests at the counter all night. It felt private and special, with our bartender's full attention. Drinks & Starters The menu is a placemat-sized two-sider with tempting pastas, pizzas, and more. I went for the Snake Bite Sangria (perfect choice for the night) while my other half enjoyed a glass of Sikele Rosso. For our starter, we had Prosciutto di Parma with warm, salty gnocco fritte. Delicious on their own, but I later realized the menu lists a pear mostarda -- which we didn't get -- and I think it would have added a great sweet balance. Still tasty enough to box up for breakfast the next day. Salad Win We always try the Caesar, and Cosmica's did not disappoint. Shredded lettuce (so easy to eat), crushed croutons sprinkled throughout, and a balanced dressing with added anchovies. Texturally and flavor-wise, it was spot-on. Mains & A Little Mix-Up When ordering, I asked about the Pork Milanese -- mostly curious about the chili aïoli it comes with. Once I learned it could be a little spicy (and spice isn't my friend), I opted for the Pacific Striped Bass instead. While we enjoyed our appetizers and salad, our bartender came by to say the kitchen was running a little behind and that a few items would be comped because of the wait -- a thoughtful gesture we really appreciated. The funny thing is, we didn't even notice the delay. We're great company for ourselves, and there was plenty of energy, movement, and details to take in from the bar. I even told her the comp wasn't necessary, but she insisted. When the entrées arrived, my other half got his Chicken Scarpariello (tender thighs in a white wine sauce -- delicious). I, however, received the pork cutlet instead of the seabass. By then it was getting late, and since I had been on the fence between the two dishes anyway, I decided to keep it. It was crispy, juicy, and reminded me of a great schnitzel -- though I did have to scrape off most of the spicy aïoli. Still, everything was clearly fresh, hot, and well-prepared. Extra Pasta Because... Why Not Mid-meal, we saw a pasta dish go by that looked too good to skip. Enter the Spaghettone -- perfectly al dente, fresh, and worth every bite. Yes, we were now up to four to-go boxes. Sweet Ending We skipped a full dessert (too full!) but couldn't resist the Lemon Sorbetto. Light, tart, refreshing -- the perfect palate cleanser. Final Thoughts We left full, happy, and impressed -- both by the food and the warm, attentive staff. Next time, I'll make a reservation, aim for that seabass, and maybe bring friends for a laid-back, laughter-filled night. If I could give this place a 3.5 I would because it teeters between a 3 and a 4. What's makes it a 4? Service. Our waiters were kind, polite and always checking in on us. The drinks tasted as good as they looked. I was also happily surprised to see a number of dessert items on the menu such as cheesecake and gelato of the day as dessert as it is not listed in their website menu. Plus the vibes are immaculate. They have both an indoor and outdoor seating area but the tables are kinda small so if you're going with more than 2 people and plan on getting more than one dish I'd ask for a booth. What makes it a 3? While they tasted amazing the dishes were inconsistent and portions were too small vs. the price you pay. My friend and I both got pizzas and both our pies were crispy on one end and a bit under done on the other. The pies, like the rest of dishes were just too small compared to what we were paying. The Rigatoni dish in the photos was $22. It made me wonder- it is so expensive because it's fresh pasta? I couldn't see any indicators of fresh pasta on the menu (and normally when a place has fresh pasta they throw it in your face). I give them grace since they're a new place and it seems like they're trying to decide if they want to be a bar or restaurant. If you're going out for a drink and want a place with chill vibes where you can yap with your friend group this is the place to go! The food on the other hand were either terrible or just okay. Wish we had listened to other reviews saying the same thing to avoid an overpriced, far from pleasant dinner. Being that these comments were from months ago, it shows that this place has no intention for improvement. The pizzas were really really salty. The sausage pizza had greens on top and it tasted as though they took a salt shaker and threw extra salt on top of everything. The tortellini pasta skin was very dense so it almost tasted dry even though it's sitting in a broth. Don't recommend coming here. I was blown away with the cute, intimate restaurant, I wish I got a better picture of where we were sitting, so dang beautiful! I tried the lasagna and hands down that has to be the best lasagna I've ever had! A perfect pocket of sausage and ricotta, and their red sauce is flavorful but not overpowering! While the bolognese was exceptional the other 2 dishes were alright. The service was not what was expected, we weren't checked on once while eating food and the waiter just dropped the dessert menu on our table, not the type of service that is expected. We walked in around 7pm and was told we could be seated at 815pm, when we walked in around 8pm there were multiple table empty and told that we had to wait til 815 to be seated. I've heard so much fan fare about this restaurant. Months ago, when it received the NY Times review of America's Best in 2025, we were very excited to try it and tried making a reservation. Understandably, the wait was something like 3-4 months. We decided to wait. Unexpectedly, late yesterday afternoon we secured a 5-top table reservation for same day at 7:30 pm. This was Sunday, July 26th. (That was surprising to me.) *Parking is horrible; give yourself extra time to find any. (I can get past that.) *We had a tag-team of two waiters; one was attentive, while the other was aloof, hurried, would ask a question and not wait for responses before rushing off. Not pleasant. Now the food. Two of us had speciality cocktails. They weren't bad and fairly priced.Two orders of puffy bread for the table. Delicious! (Just know these are very small portions.) Three of us ordered the Lasagna; I ordered the pork short ribs, and the 5th ordered another pasta dish. All entrees tasted.... eh. Not great. Underwhelming. The pork short ribs were terrible. Dry, pale gray color, a lot of tough gristle and bone ratio to actual meat. There was very little actual meat to pull of the bone and what there was, was incredibly tough and chewy. Terrible. I thought about notifying the waiter but didn't want to disrupt the group conversation we were having. The price for the ribs was not terrible for the portion size (3 very small ribs for $16), but I certainly expected much higher quality food for this high-rated place. (I just noticed the ratings on Yelp are not great.) *Cool vibe (the two restrooms ended up being the highlight; weird comment, but true.) Won't be going back; won't recommend. I had the pleasure of visiting Cosmica the other night with a friend. The service was fantastic and the food all but one dish were amazing. The beef carpaccio was wonderful. The eggplant appetizer was amazing and the short ribs and pizza were outstanding . Combine that with the desserts and it was a great meal. The only thing that didn't add up was the white Bolognese.. it seems their kitchen is going to be editing their menu so I look forward to trying new things and hopefully they keep the things that are fantastic on the menu read more

Tonight we arrived to find one of the most popular menu items has been discontinued, the shoestring fries. And, no more rigatoni, lasagna or bucatini. Stale menu items being replaced by unrecognizable dishes. The menu online also doesn't match the menu that is presented in the restaurant. Quit changing the menu. Stick to your roots and offer a few of the new pasta dishes as specials. I will not be returning until the menu becomes more recognizable. This place is a total vibe. Incredible decor, food, and wine selection. We got the arancini to start, which had the perfect texture. Next we split a pizza and pasta for our mains. Sauce was DELICIOUS. Flavors of both were outstanding. We finished with the rhubarb cheesecake which was perfect. Our waiter Zach was great, but we had a couple hiccups in our experience that I want to share as feedback, but to be fair they are a new restaurant. We went at 6:15 and I sat directly in the sun. When I asked to move to the empty booth behind, I was told it was reserved...even though no one sat there the whole time we were there. Towards the end of our reservation, the people next to us asked to move because of the sun and their waiter said "Well, we can just scoot your table closer, they're leaving soon." the decor is immaculate and it incredible vibes for such a small space. i love the somewhat maximalist decor, but it also feels not overbearing. this place has been booked solid since the nyt article, so i tried my luck with a walk-in. thankfully they got me a seat at the bar in about 5 mins! my boyfriend and i each ordered a mocktail of the bartenders choice and she made this mint tea with basil mocktail that was incredible!!! we ordered the puffy bread with anchovies and it was incredible, but also pretty salty with the combo of pecorino and anchovies. the tuna crudo was pretty good and had a nice spice, but not mind blowing imo. the shrimp scampi was solid! this place didn't get 5 stars to me because i think my expectations were through the roof because the recent buzz and it didn't blow my mind.. but it was pretty good overall! other notes: it was good, but honestly didn't blow my mind like i had hyped up due to the nyt ranking read more

Sadly our server really ruined our experience. When we asked what some of the popular dishes were for each course we were met with a response that made us feel like we were burdening our server. We simply wanted some guidance so we can get our order in quicker. We were able to put some apps in, the food came out, and we were ready to order more and let our server know, but he didn't return for 15 minutes. Our dishes were done at this point. My boyfriend and I tried to flag him down 3 times but he just kept walking right past us. Finally, on the 4th try my boyfriend had to stand up as he was walking by to put the rest of our order in. While we don't want to believe our server just didn't like us, it certainly felt that way as we watched him cater to tables next to us several times while skipping ours. We had a great experience with the Sommelier, and the food overall was quite good, but sadly we felt our server missed the mark. The food was amazing! The plates that we ordered were delicious. The Italian flavors are unlike anywhere else in Utah, and you truly can't order wrong! I started with the Fluffy bread and Raw Tuna appetizer, which were both delicious. We also got the Chicken Parm and the pizzas which were absolutely excellent. The service was fast and consistent, but the servers attitude wasn't very charismatic.
