I came here with my son on a recent trip to Salt Lake City, they found a table on really short notice and were super accommodating. Service was fantastic throughout. Ambience is casual, but yet slightly upscale. You could come here for a date, or grab a quick lunch, and they have outdoor dining. It's on a nice quiet street with great parking easy access. We had beef stroganoff, delicious, creamy, tender beef, ample gravy, and the chicken enchiladas, which were to die for. I don't know what they have in their green rice, but it was the first time I've ever had it and it was fantastic. The black beans were seasoned perfect, and the cheesy chicken enchilada was just perfect. The temperature of the food was great, not too hot, but hot enough that you knew it was fresh. Went for the Sunday brunch the patio seating was beautiful with the nice weather by the park across the street. Be prepared for a wait but well worth it! The veggie omelette was delish and well seasoned, the fresh guac on top was such a good touch. The hash browns were crispy and seasoned well with grilled peppers and onions mixed in. Friend said the turkey sandwich was tasty - all the lunch options are served with soup or salad. Great service, waitress came by with plenty of ice water refills during our meal. They have a parking lot that filled up so we found street parking a couple streets away. read more

I wanted to update my review since I feel like I took better food pics this time and just overall, enjoyed everything!! I treated myself to a fun lunch at the bar! It was kinda crowded, I was on my own and I was ordering a drink anyway, so I figured why not!! I had a refreshing Vienna Lager and the Garden Sandwich on toasted sourdough!! This is by far the best sandwich I've ever had!! The bread was nice and crispy and the inside of the sandwich was gooey, so for me it was the perfect combination!! The dodo had great service. By the time my glass was half full, the server, Tyler, would bring out my next drink. He knew the menu and specials well and gave great dessert recommendations. The place is well kept with a modern yet also rustic look. Could come in a nice outfit or coming from errands. I got the honey baked salmon and the pesto sauce was delicious. The salmon was a little dry but by no means bad. The vegetables I was expecting a little more freshness but they were still good. My partner got the pulled pork quesadilla and it was a lot of food for a good price. Their dessert menu was the best. We split the chocolate raspberry pie and the banana pie. Dodo is always a great spot for dinner, and even though it was busy, we lucked out and got seated right away. Our server was fantastic, taking the time to explain all the specials and making us feel welcome. We started with the artichoke pie, which came with a wonderful lemon aioli--super tasty and surprisingly filling! I had the ginger sauce stir-fry with shrimp, and it was delicious but so generous that I couldn't finish it. My other half had the Greek pasta salad topped with grilled salmon, and the salmon was perfectly cooked--tender, flavorful, and just right. We kicked off the meal with a Pinot Noir, which paired beautifully with everything. We were too full for dessert, but there were so many tempting options--next time, I'm definitely trying the Black Forest cheesecake! One little detail I love--their Dodo logo on the menu. It's such a fun, quirky touch. We've been here many times, and while there's usually a wait (because it's just that good), every now and then, we get lucky with a quick seat. I love this restaurant! I always get the beef stroganoff, it's my favorite! The portions here are very generous here so don't worry about being hungry after. It's a bit more costly compared to other restaurants but it's worth it in my opinion. The restaurant is almost always very full and very busy but regardless of that it's still a great environment and place to go to with friends or family to have a good meal. Another thing I'd like to add is the staff, they are all very nice and super friendly but I would like if they were just a tad bit more attentive. When I ask for anything whether that be a drink refill, a side of sauce, side of parmesan etc I end up getting it loooooong after asking for it to the point where I just move on without it. Aside from that, I still think this place is great and I definitely recommend it! read more

Probably my favorite meal in Salt Lake City. The service was fantastic, the food delicious, the portions were great. Our server Tessa Mae(?) was awesome. She gave us great recommendations that were just hit after hit. The honey baked salmon was slightly sweet and went really well with the flavor of the salmon. The juices flavored the rice and vegetables, too. My fiancée ordered the vegetarian ravioli with 3 different fillings. Mushroom, asparagus, and I forget the third but it was green. The artichoke dip was warm and delicious on the warm buttered bread. The desserts are a must have. We couldn't finish so we took it home, but we knew we had to try two. The peanut butter pie tasted like Reese's Pieces, one of my favorite treats as a kid. The caramel sauce for the banana cream cheesecake was fantastic. Our server recommended it to go with coffee and gave us a container to go for our coffee the next morning. She was wonderfully attentive and fun to talk to. The restaurant was comfortable and uniquely laid out in two staggered floors. The booth we sat in was comfortable and wasn't too noisy. The lower level has the chalkboard with the list of desserts. There is outside seating which had a longer wait when we visited, which I don't blame anyone for choosing on a warm spring evening like the one we had when we visited. I have loved coming here for years! A perfect spot when you want a little fancier of a dinner but not break the bank fancy. There's never too long of a wait unless you go for brunch which is the best in the summer when the outdoor patio is open! I love the cajun chicken alfredo (add broccoli so delicious) and truly nothing beats their desserts. The banana cream pie with caramel salt will always satisfy my sweet tooth. The Dodo, a long time SLC staple. I remember taking dates here in Highschool and College, and coming late ish just for desserts. The locations were different back then but much is the same. My wife and I both had pastas mine was the Blackened Cajun chicken, really good with excellent flavor. But similar to others I've had for less. 5/5 Side Caesar salad. 4/5 My wife had the Chicken Gorgonzola pasta special, with pine nuts and sun dried tomatoes. It was even better than the Cajun pasta. 5/5 Waitress was very friendly, taking pride in her job and telling us they take their service serious here. So why four stars instead of five. The prices are very high. $20 for sandwiches and pasta dishes. It was $65 for both of us with no appetizers and one soda. read more

Just starting off, the food was basic but solid. However, it's very overpriced. For a smallish turkey sandwich with an okay French onion soup, it was over $21 which is bananas. My wife's crab Benedict had way too much sauce which was overkill. The best thing was the free coconut and pineapple muffins they gave us before the meal. They were moist and pretty tasty. This is a pretty old spot in SLC it seems so the decor is kinda outdated. Our server was super nice and checked up on us. The manager also checked up on us which is nice. Outstanding, delicious and so devoured we failed to take pictures. Parmesan crusted halibut, beef stroganoff and chicken Alfredo were our choices, and did not disappoint. We had leftovers as well. My wife and I arrived and they seat us and bring us our menus never ate there before and we order and they say oh we can't make that. So here's a different menu we ordered again and they said we have a different menu sorry that was the wrong one. Then we finally got to order what they had to cook the waiter told us they have all of the stuff to cook anything on any of the menus but they don't want to cook anything that we previously ordered. I had the burger with mushroom and avocado and broccoli and cheddar soup. We had a slice of pie each . It was very expensive for what we had. I wouldn't eat here again. The Dodo used to be great, but they have been in a rut for a decade and have done nothing to attract back old customers or new ones. The prices are OUTRAGEOUS -- a simple lunch for two with a salad, sandwich, and one Iced Tea cost $54 with tip. My salad didn't even come with a protein and was still $18 for a regular size. Menu hasn't changed in forever, and their brunch food is subpar (and again -- the prices). The desserts remain the only standout items. Groups seem to love going here, and their patio is indeed nice, but I think my days of frequenting The Dodo are over. read more

I have no problem paying more for good food, but the entrees were definitely not worth the menu price. They seemed like what a mid-range restaurant like Applebees or Chilis wants to be. I ordered the halibut for $42, expecting a high quality tasting meal from a nice restaurant. The fish was overcooked and dry. The blueberry sauce was interesting but not a huge fan. The mashed potatoes were drenched in butter and so were the veggies... but they could've used more flavor. It was kind of basic... like Applebees. However, the house salad with bacon dressing was excellent! The dressing was the star of the dish, but the house salad itself could've used more topping. It just felt like I was eating lettuce and dressing. Tho service was fine, and they have a nice selection of seasonal desserts. Overall, I would come back but I would not recommend the seafood or meat. Order the salads (other reviews seem to enjoy them too). The menu here has potential, but the restaurant just needs to learn how to cook it right or hire better chefs. read more

Why do I love this place so much?!! Probably because everything about this place is perfection!! I come here 5-6 times a year and I'm NEVER disappointed. We always have great service and amazing food. Without fail, I get the Smoked Turkey with Swiss. Every. Single. Time. Why mess up this good thing I have going for myself? The barbecue dipping sauce is incredible and the house side salad is also top notch. I hear there are many other good things on the menu but I just can't bring myself to part from my beloved sandwich. I do however switch up my desserts. I go back-and-forth between the banana cream cheese pie and the peanut butter cream cheese pie. The toll house pie is just ok for me, as well as the coffee cake. The ambiance here is very upscale but not pretentious. These people know what they are doing when it comes to pairing flavors and textures! The tomato polenta with chipotle's sauce was creamy with slightly firm texture topped with chipotle sauce and layed on a bed of creamy avocado, paired with a savory corn relish. The pasta was just loaded with depth of flavor, the shrimp hot but not overcooked or rubbery. This is a definite go to if visiting Salt Lake's sugar Hill area. Quiche was very disappointing- giant serving but it was all egg, very little stuff- a touch of spinach, not sure where the feta was. A triangle of some kind of cheese melted into the top - it was brown, couldn't really tell if it was cheese for sure. Crust was inedible, thick, doughy, - texture of both the crust and egg was just unpleasant. The pork medallions were tough and overcooked, the marinade was not well designed - an odd intense flavor was not complementary. Service was good though. Great patio seating! If it's nice out, it's a lovely place to enjoy your food. I went in the morning and there wasn't a lot of traffic on the road beside us so it was great to get some fresh air in peace. The staff was quick to give me a water upon seating and a muffin with butter to get started. I forgot to ask if it changes daily or weekly but I loved that my experience started with a complimentary treat. For my main dish I ordered the Eggs Benedict. It was good. I didn't feel like this was a dish I would order again, it was pretty average in comparison to other Eggs Benedict's I've tried, but it wasn't bad.
