I stopped here while passing through Kill Devil Hills. It has a tricky one-way parking lot but once you're there, it's worth a stop. The menu is extensive and features a lot of various yummy combination sweet caffeine drinks. I didn't really study the menu too much as I was so happy they had internet access. I don't believe they had wifi but they certainly had little stations where you could plug into network cables. The seating was generous and quite extensive. A mix of tables and high tables exist with booths. All of the furniture in the store was just really nice and it was a lot nicer than I expected. Everything was clean. But yes, if you're on the road and looking to hop on the internet quick - its a good place to hop in and get a drink and chill out. Good atmosphere. read more

There are three different locations of Front Porch Cafe, all owned by the same great people. This one, in KDH, Manteo and Nags Head. They all are top-notch in my book, coffee is the same, food is the same, atmospheres are different. Check out my other two reviews to find out about the other locations. Front Porch Cafe in KDH is the original store. Quaint, cute, small, there is limited seating, but the staff here is amazing. Maria is the best barista ever. Yes, I said it, EVER! She truly cares about the customer and providing them with the best coffee around. Don't know what you want?? Let Maria make you something special. Tell her a few of your favorite flavors or let her start from scratch. She's sure to make you a drink that is amazing. And hey, you might just find your signature concoction. Food is good here, as well. Don't expect a heavy lunch, sandwiches, or anything of the sorts. This is a coffee shop, and while they have plenty to offer in terms of food, it's pastry items, scones, muffins and bagels, if you are looking for good coffee and a breakfast item this is the place to be. Oh and they have delicious cookies baked fresh daily! My recommendation: Go for a Morning Wake-up of Iced coffee and an everything bagel with cream cheese. read more

The first sip of Kill Devil Coffee I ever took actually left me speechless, I love this coffee and what the company is about and have only encountered a few coffee's that closely relate to this (all being on the west coast). If your in the Outer Banks and your thinking coffee this is the place you want to go! Even if your in the state of North Carolina this is where you want to go! Good coffee with a strong commitment to being local. Plenty of seating in their attached paint pottery shop. As long as the pottery store is not open, you can take a large group here and everyone will have a seat inside to sip o. Their coffee and enjoy a muffin. The pottery place opens at 10 am. They sell the local Kill Devil Hills coffee. No place to plug in your laptop, which they will direct you to their other location which is well equipped with outlets. Free wifi. read more

We don't fool around with coffee. We are committed to getting a quality cup on the go and brewing from the best possible beans at home. I'm a purist, so I can't speak to the blended, frothy, whipped concoctions. But for a good cup of coffee, they deliver. For good beans, they offer a solid selection from which to choose. This place feels very beachy, which is a good thing since it's about a block from the beach. The coffee is good, but I'm from Portland so the coffee snob in me is going to say that it's not great or special. The staff is very friendly and I like the energy in here, but there are two things I would change. 1- It's attached to a paint your own pottery place, so when you sip your latte, you're sitting in a craft room. 2- I wish they had a better food selection. Something so simple as a bagel sandwich would be good. They do have bagels & cream cheese and pastries, but it would be nice to get a good cup of coffee AND something substantial to eat. FRESH SQUEEZED JUICE - GREAT COFFEE!! I love that they offer fresh, squeezed juice, and that they have great coffee. Those two pluses make this place a "yay" for me, but then they also have great food and I love the atmosphere. I come here a lot and the coffee is absolutely amazing ,this rreview is based off the brunette tall lady at the register . She is extremely rude, short , and seems very unhappy to be there . No "hello" ,no "how are you today" ,no "you're welcome" , and not one smile. Damn near rolled her eyes right when I walked in and acted like checking me out and taking my order was the biggest chore of her day . Hope to see some friendlier faces working and greeting people during the summer especially with the tourists coming into town . read more

Great little coffee spot. Standard coffee house atmosphere but the staff was extremely polite and the coffee is excellent. It has a serve yourself coffee bar where you get to peruse the coffee available and read its description before choosing. They also have beans available for purchase in a number of varieties. The breakfast croissant was delicious too, made on-site, I was lucky enough to get one hot out of the oven. Great Mocha! I didn't try anything else, but they do have a loyalty card that they punch per drink (not per visit).. Definite plus in my book! The workers are really friendly beach locals. The cashier remembered my order after two visits, even though I was only in town for a week... Gotta love that customer service! The Front Porch Cafe definitely knows how to brew a fresh and rich cup of coffee, and has the right breakfast goods to go with it, so for that reason I'll stop in again. And the staff was very friendly. So, I'm giving them a solid four stars for the coffee & breakfast pastries (I got enormous cinnamon roll AND a chocolate croissant), but if I could give them 2-3 stars it would be for the location/storefront. I know, I know, this is supposed to be all about the food, but as I've mentioned in other posts, I like to feel like I'm seeing part of the regional culture when I go out to eat. read more

Five stars aren't easy to come by in my reviews, especially when it comes to something I am passionate about. Front Porch has gloriously fed this passion with carefully roasted, expertly prepared, and lovingly presented coffee. I have long been a lover of local coffee houses, ones that not only provide the fuel for me to start (or continue) my day, but ones that take their craft seriously while inviting a lone visitor in and making them feel as they're part of the community. Front Porch does this with effortless aplomb. I spent some time discussing coffee with a long time employee, Maria. She informed me that they test roast each bean to find the best roast to highlight that coffee's characteristics. I tried a Sulawesi/Celebes yesterday that was done to a full Vienna roast, which usually can overpower a coffee, but it worked beautifully at bringing out the chocolate undertones of the beans. Unlike most places, they only bring their Sumatra Mandheling to a full city roast. This shows their understanding of the bean, as you get the full flavor spectrum of this beautiful Indonesian coffee.! This morning I tasted the Peruvian Organic (light full city roast amplifies the sweet and spicy coffee while still bringing out some earthy undertones), the Panama Bouquette (full city roast does wonders at bringing out the sweet and spicy flavors in this lower acidity coffee), and my chosen cup was the Morning Mission (unbelievably beautiful balance of a dark roast and a bright city roast of blended African and Indonesian blends. When in the area, ignore all the other places for coffee...especially "that chain place that burns everything and charges you too much". Front Porch roasts perfectly and brews properly, and just as importantly, serves their community gratefully. read more

Support local businesses! You will not be disappointed. I got the iced coffee which was strong and flavorful without the bitterness of a more popular chain (ahem Starbucks). There is a small section of baked goods. Yum yum yum. They are freshly baked and just amazing. Try the raspberry cheese croissant.
