Very busy and crowded spot serving breakfast, lunch, and coffee. We were there for about an hour, and I never saw the line die down. You order at the register first, then find a table and they'll deliver your food. I noticed a lot of people get to go, but by the time we got our food, we could all sit at the table. The coffee wasn't that great as other reviews have said... but the sandwiches were YUMMY Most of our group got an egg sandwich with avo & bacon served on a super soft brioche bun. The egg was actually very fluffy and I liked the creaminess of the avocado I got the BLT, which was equally as good! Found this place on our way back from Joshua Tree. Looks like a busy lunch spot. The service was great, and they put our food together quickly. We ordered the Lox Bagel, Breakfast Sandwich, pumpkin latte and matcha latte. I loved the Lox Bagel but it was topped with an abundant amount of onion. There are no pets allowed inside unless they are service animals which is good to keep in mind.. and despite the long wait, the service was amazing as we did order an item incorrectly, and they fixed it. I came in to Frontier Cafe after a trip to Joshua Tree. The perfect stop on the way home, Frontier Cafe sits right in the heart of Yucca Valley, off 29 Palms Hwy. Street parking is pretty easy, and there's a parking lot in the back, too. Walking in on a Sunday morning, the place was packed. The line was almost out the door! Just like any other cafe, you put in your order and then pick up at the counter. I ordered a drip coffee and an everything bagel. I thought it was kind of weird that you get a number, but don't get one of those stand things to put it in. I ended up just taking one from another table. I found a seat and had my coffee with a view out the window and music at a pretty high volume. The music was really good, so I was fine with that! The coffee was great, too. When my bagel came out, I was pretty confused by the presentation. The vegan schmear comes in two cups, alongside arugala and radish slices covered in dressing. I would have preferred to have the schmear on the bagel, but I get that have the schmear in cups makes things easier. However, the toast level of the bagel was a bit offensive. It was wayyyy too toasted. I would have preferred the option to have the bagel toasted, like a traditional bagel shop. So while the food may not be (from what I experienced) the best (although all in all the food was tasty), the atmosphere is so cute and you can't beat the location. While there were about 5 guests in front of us in line, the wait was less than ~5-7 minutes before we were able to order our: Herb cream cheese bagel, Side soup, ice vanilla latte, and kombucha/CBD sparkling water. While everything was worth the stop, the star of the show was the delicate balance between the rich and flavorful herb cream cheese and the side of refreshing arugula salad. Honorable mention had to be the sensory experience of the CBD sparkling water which felt like one was drinking a glitter rainbow bomb from a can. Overall, there can be a bit of a wait to order and the lines can extend so far back as the front door HOWEVER, this place is great for a breakfast/brunch snack and pick-me up coffee. There is some great shopping to be done in the adjacent stores and the pleasantly positioned outdoor eating patio overlooks the busy cross section gives lent to the overall eating experience some additional character. read more

Stopped here for a quick drink while browsing shops in Joshua tree and loved it so much we came back a few times. I ordered an iced matcha latte the first time with a little bit of honey and it was great - not too sweet and strong on the caffeine. They had a lot of syrups to choose from so the second time I ordered a matcha latte with peppermint syrup and it was perfect! Not too strong on the syrup. After hiking Joshua Tree we yelped as we arrived in town. Had to try the Vegan BLT with the unique beer options. I really enjoyed the Mango Pango and my wife had the Ultra Pale Ale from El Segundo. We walked outside for a table with our beers and enjoyed the beers. My wife checked out the little shop next door and came back to join me. I was curious about our meals and walked back in to check. The cashier checked the kitchen and came right back with them in hand. I guess the called my name inside but we were outside. As we dug into the awesome sandwiches we began seeing other meals being carried out and names being called. That was a little weird.... The Frontier Cafe was ok. The staff behind the counter were friendly, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the place. It was rustic and cute. The cafe even allows dogs for those who want to bring their furry friend on their trip to town. My sister ordered an Arnold Palmer, and I ordered a large oat milk matcha latte with two pumps of sugar-free vanilla syrup. My sister's order came out almost immediately but mine took a while, and by a while I mean forever. I'm pretty sure they had forgotten my order. I waited for a while and saw customers coming and going. Even people who were a few customers behind me had gotten their orders. At that point, I decided to ask someone to check on my order and they seemed confused. When I reminded them of my specific order, they ran to the back and made it within seconds. Honestly, I really wasn't happy, but the friendliness of the staff and their quick response to the situation made up for it. I even really enjoyed my latte. I would recommend the place but honestly, they should really keep track of those orders a bit better. Great stop post-hike at Joshua Tree, easy to locate off 29 Palms on the way back to Palm Springs. I ordered the egg sandwich with bacon and a decaf iced latte with oat milk. The sandwich did not disappoint - brioche bun was well paired with a perfect bacon crunch and tasty sauce. Their iced drinks come in one size, so while I didn't need it that large, it was refreshing. All food and drinks were being served to go and the bathrooms weren't accessible due to construction, but I enjoyed my order on their front patio seating, where others did as well. Super friendly service and delicious food in a neat little building with a lot of characters to watch. They have something for all dietary plans, from vegan to omni and whatever in between. I had a breakfast sandwich, which was really tasty, and it came with a nice side salad. The only downer is that the specialty lemonade I got (rose flavored) was on the small side with a LOT of ice. Yucca Valley, Ca. We have always made this place our breakfast and lunch place when staying in the area. It has always offered up delicious coffee from Joshua Tree Roasters, and great breakfasts and lunches. Alas, there have been changes since those days. They did improve two things that were in need of attention. Now there are four bathrooms instead of just the two located in the dining area. Also they somehow got rid of the pigeons and birds outside on the patio. I did not miss the bird poop. That was the good. The not so good starts with the line that forms from the counter to the exit door and sometimes beyond. It moves way too slow. Other busy successful places I've been at has the owner or the manager directing the process from orders to prep. like a tuned machine. There is no person such as this motivating the people and process. Since it took 30 minutes just to place our coffee drink orders we decided not to order food that needed prep. We went for premade yogurt parfait with granola. It turns out it is NOT GRANOLA but muesli. However it was good, and had some fresh berries. The chocolate croissant was excellent. Now the coffee, oh dear. They are brewing one of the best roasted coffees available (Joshua Tree). We ordered large lattes which arrived in 16 ounce paper cups. Unfortunately, getting the large is apparently just two shots of espresso with extra froth. The finished product tasted like warm coffee flavored milk. So disappointing. There is no longer any reusable cups, so if your favorite coffee experience involves a ceramic mug, you are out of luck. Maybe bring your own? Same with silverware, it is all throw away plastic as well as no bowls or plates. Obviously there is no dishwasher. I will probably seek another coffee place in the area, even if I have to drive up to Joshua Tree. read more

I recently came here after 6 years since my first visit, to find they are still the best coffee shop in the area. The shop is spacious yet homey, with plenty of indoor and patio seating. They roast Joshua Tree coffee, and have a nice espresso machine. A blackboard menu offers a great selection of light breakfast and lunch fare, in addition to drinks. The pastry case was sparse at 11am on a Wednesday, but the cheese danish I selected was fantastic. It had delicate, crisp layers, with a smooth cream cheese center that was not overly sweet. My Cappuccino was exceptional: bold, nutty espresso with balanced acidity, and a fluffy oat milk cap. The barista working was genuinely friendly. We wanted to stop by a cafe that had good coffees and brunch type items. This is the place. It's right in the corner with orange bright colored wall--it's hard to miss. Parking on the street and easy, if you're not comfortable then the little side streets are free space as well. Their menu is pretty extensive. Just the right amount of items to choose from. On top of that, they have a cooler fridge with other items ranging from sparkling water to kombucha. We got the iced white mocha, delicious, refreshing without overpowering sweetness. Even after the ice melted, it was still delicious. We got the lemonade and it was refreshing but I wish it was a bit more sour... We also got the grilled cheese (it comes with heirloom tomatoes inside). The LOX, so yummy! Very buttery salmon and the fresh dill was a great touch. We also got the avocado tartine, another delicious item! Loving the touch of ajvar, it elevated the avocado toast. The establishment is a nice hang out spot. They have tables and chairs in the front if you like the bright light but don't mind the heat. The inside is dark and moody which sets a nice tone for a coffee shop. They have art pieces that are hung on display (which can be purchase). The restrooms are clean and the staff are friendly. Sometimes the food is good. I ordered chicken sandwiches for my husband and I and there was barely any chicken salad. The preparation is inconsistent at best. It's a hit and miss. For the price there should be more supervision to keep return customers happy. I really liked the food and apparently they have hired someone who keeps putting hardly any content on the bread. This was in the late 90's before people from all over the world flocked to Joshua Tree to take pics for the 'gram. Oh how the times they have-a changed. Anyways, I love going here especially super early in the AM. Decent coffee and the pastries are served with a mini-salad. This was a pit stop on the way back from Joshua Tree around noon on a Friday. It was soo busy and very obvious that the cafe was understaffed. 1 barista and 1 person taking the register and seems like 1 person working to go orders. I walked in thinking it would be a grab and go coffee, but ended up waiting 30 minutes for my coffee + chai latte. Part of me thinks because Joshua Tree Coffee was closed down a lot of customers made their way to Frontier Cafe. I saw my drinks get made and saw it was done in a really rushed manner, which I totally feel from the stress of the barista. However, I was a bit dissapointed by the drinks itself. Both coffee and latte tasted either watered down or very milky - not much flavor and coffee. With tons of ice as well. Wasn't too hype about this latest visit.If I make my way back to Jtree would like to visit non busy hours. I hope the cafe gets more help knowing their peak hours get crazy. read more
