Stopped by while on a road trip & it was packed! Service was great & we didn't wait long for our food given how many people were there. Great place to stop for a good old fashioned burger. Burger was nice & hot! (Leaving 4 stars since some of our fries were slightly undercooked). Still regretting not getting a milkshake lol. We had originally just ordered two bacon cheeseburgers & a side of fries, but the cashier recommended I make one a meal since it would be cheaper & we'd get a drink - Always appreciate a cashier who does this vs trying to upsell. Ended up leaving a tip because of this. Great mom & pop to support - would stop by again if in the area!

WOW! I can't believe I slept on this place for all 4 years I lived in Descanso. Ordered the Mtn Bacon Double Cheeseburger with pepper jack, it was one of the best burgers I'd ever had, and it was HUGE! The portions for what you pay are very generous. My dogs also loved their puppy patties. Will def need to come back for some ice cream next time!

First time here. The customer service was awesome. The spicy chicken sandwich was delicious and had a decent kick. Onion rings were delicious as well. But the real star was the chocolate malt. Food was well priced and I felt like I went back in time for an honest roadside meal. What a hidden gem.

Made this as a roadside stop on way to San Diego after my daughter sent me the tik tok video. The chocolate shake was delicious. Onion rings cooked fresh and hot served with ranch. The iced tea is unsweetened with a fruity flavor. Seating is outdoors with some umbrellas. Other tables in the sun I would not be able to tolerate. They play 50s/60s music. Service was pleasant. Overall a good experience and a nice stop close to the freeway that isn't a chain.

So delicious! Such a great and nostalgic stop on our way back to Phoenix from San Diego. I wish I took pictures of the food. Hefty serving of fries and the chocolate shake was amazing!

I had to post a photo of there banana split. Burgers fries and customer service outstanding! 70's music they play brings me back

This place is magic. Honestly, I meant to say smackin but magic is potentially a better word. Magic might not be real, but that's how I felt when I came to here with my two buddies four times. I actually only ate here twice but wanted to eat here four times and maybe even six. The burger was really good, and when I tried the chicken sandwich I felt like a magician because my taste buds were putting spells on my mind. You might not be a magician, I am sometimes and, regardless do you know what it's like when your taste buds do sorcery on you. It's magic. It's FROSTYS

Just a stroll away from La Jolla shores, you can't beat the power combo of delicious gelato and the views. I cannot emphasize enough, without a fail I come here EVERYTIME I'm in the area. I won't lie, it's not a cheap sweat treat but it is worth every penny for the quality and sheer deliciousness in every bite. My go to flavor is the mediterraneo (don't know if I'm spelling that right) which is a mixed nut (hazelnut, almond, pistachio) flavor that is just as rich and luscious as you could imagine. The gelato melts quick so make sure to eat fast and enjoy the experience while it lasts. If you want to prolong the experience they also offer pints to take home with you. Sometimes they give samples out front but you can also request samples when you're inside before ordering. Their menu rotates seasonally with some mainstay flavors so there's almost always something new to try.

We already got our pie fix at Mom's, but made this our last stop before heading out. It was so cold out, a super chilly day, there's nothing more perfect than to grab a hot cup of steaming Apple Cider! It hit the spot! I couldn't stop just standing there sipping my hot cider while waiting for our to go items to be prepared. We got two apple cider donuts, one cinnamon sugar and one chocolate dipped. Long ago, I tried these tiny heart shaped pie crust cookies covered in cinnamon and sugar - Apple Memories! These are crisp tiny bites of love that you want to take home every single time! There are actually two buildings. One where you can grab a bite to eat, the other has all the merchandise, and both have whole frozen pies to grab to go! The building where you can dine has a small inside dining area, it can get cozy in there, but on a chilly day, that is exactly what you want! Just outside there is plenty of room outdoors to enjoy the scenery. In the merchandise building I couldn't help myself... we took home a whole gallon of apple cider, and also bought a jar of Cinnamon Apple Honey Spread and a jar of Apple butter... absolute yum! The hubs also decided to try the apple cinnamon chapstick! Yes, you can grab one of these famous pies at many different establishments throughout San Diego. To make name a few, Iowa Farms, Spring Valley Market, Siesel's and even at Vons! But if you're in Julian, don't forget to try a pie, grab some Apple Memories, and don't forget to bring a hot thermos to take that hot Apple cider to go! Enjoy!!! Simply the Best! That prompted me to make a final visit as I used to frequent the PB store when it was still around. The original Vietnamese owner started the business in 2014 by sourcing unique flavors from Hawaii. With more competition and inflation, it was sad to hear that Hammond's was no longer able to sustain their mission anymore. I fondly recall one visit in which I came with a large group, and we split a 32-flavor flight. I loved being able to sample all of the different varieties, but it was hard to get to all of them before they started melting. Hammond's was one of the first local ice cream shops that offered flights as an option. The menu here also served floats, shakes, sundaes, and cookie skillets. I don't recall such options at the PB spot which focused on scoops and flights. There were about 30 flavors written on a marker board posted on a wall. The choices didn't seem as fruity or exotic compared to the early days. On this occasion, I opted for a medium sized cup with two different flavors... Mackinac Island Fudge and Strawberry Cheesecake. The first one had swirls of chocolate from the upper peninsula of Michigan mixed in with a vanilla base. The second one was a fairly standard variety that you will find at most ice cream places. I did like the collections of ice cream scoops that were mounted on the walls as decor. This North Park venue had several tables and a countertop for inside seating. It was likely the largest of what was one time three locations of the business. Thank you to Hammond's for your past decade of service to the SD community!

Back then they had delicious Asian inspired flavors like matcha, lychee, coconut and Thai tea that weren't too sweet. Today I had a hard time picking a flavor because everything tasted so average. Walking in, their menu didn't even look the same. They added their version of a pizookie that was way too sweet. Flights are still there. Their goblet chandelier, live wood countertop and mural in the back are the same, but what they're scooping and serving has sadly changed. Well this place is closing soon and I can see why.

Reasonably priced with generous portions, but the flavors were ultimately underwhelming…read more There were 14 flavors available during my visit, including two sorbets. While the selection was respectable, there were not many particularly unique offerings. Most leaned heavily toward familiar vanilla or chocolate based profiles. The staff was generous with samples and allowed me to try as many flavors as I wanted, but unfortunately none of the three that caught my attention truly impressed me. The espresso was perhaps the weakest rendition I have encountered. It lacked both the boldness and aroma that make coffee flavored ice cream appealing. Whether the espresso itself was too diluted or simply not brewed strongly enough, the flavor struggled to make any impact. The stracciatella featured a straightforward milk base studded with chocolate shards. While this was a very traditional interpretation without unnecessary additions, the ice cream lacked the richness and depth needed to carry such a simple flavor profile. The chocolate provided texture, but the base itself felt flat. The sour cream and brown sugar ended up being my favorite of the three, largely because the brown sugar was actually distinguishable. The sour cream contributed an unusual tanginess that made the flavor more interesting, though the balance was inconsistent. Some bites highlighted the warm sweetness of the brown sugar, while others tasted predominantly of sour cream, creating a combination that occasionally felt at odds with itself. I appreciated that the small size included two flavors, and the employee serving me was generous with the scoops. Still, this ended up being a fairly forgettable stop. Those who enjoy gelato with bold, inventive, or highly concentrated flavors may find the offerings here a bit too restrained.
